We took the GLB out for a test drive this past weekend. We also drove the Hyundai Palisade. Personally, I found the Palisade too big for me. I like the room, but I don’t feel comfortable driving huge SUVs. We also have an elderly parent living with us. So the height of the vehicle has to be taken into account. I think the GLB checked off all the items on my list. First, the car does not feel like a big SUV. Second, it’s the right height- you don’t have to climb into the car. Third, I have a short reach (not tall person) and not having to lean forward to access the touch screen was a big plus. MB offers (standard) a kind of mouse pad right were your right and rests. So I can access everything without having to move from my driving position at all. MB also offers like a Siri OS for the car. So you can do a lot of things via voice commands. Fourth, the 3rd row seat option means you don’t have to get into a larger SUV in order to get extra seating. I felt comfortable driving it and I though the handling and shift transitions were very smooth. I think MB did a great job with this vehicle and we’ll be leasing the GLB within the next couple of weeks.
Drove this today, lovely car, that’s just it though, it feels like a car, I arrived in an Audi sedan and when I got on this I felt no real difference, just a bit higher but nothing that noticeable, not compared to my X5 that I just sold. So if you are like me and hate trucks, SUV’s etc. But have the need to own one due to kids and stuff, this is perfect, it has more space than it has any right to have, 2 extra seats in the back for kids, all the nice bells and whistles like the self parking gimmick, turning on the car with the app to cool or warm before you enter, adjustable color lighting (kids love that stuff) but in the end it still feels and drives like a car, which I love. I was planning on going for the GLE but I just hate those types of cars. After watching this video I am happy to find out that it can get you out of an off road pinch, even though it obviously isn’t made for actual off roading, it’s always nice to have the option. Was going to wait an extra year to get the 7 seater Tesla Model y, as ugly as it is and as much as I hate it I figured I would go for electric but this car won me over, it’s just beautiful and practical. Kids loved it too, they love the interior screens and the adjustable lightning. The version I drove only has AC in one zone though, which is kind of weak but acceptable given the vehicle’s size.
Thanks for the great review of the practical off road abilities of the GLB. Personally, I think most owners will never tax the car the way you did, but it certainly showed capability. Your review was informative and well structured without the superfluous nonsense that some reviewers insist on.
Custom ordered one nearly 5 months ago in the upcharge Galaxy Blue (even before pricing was available) and we just picked it up last week. We already love it, and there is a huge learning curve from all the different features, luckily my 2019 AMG C43 helped get us used to most of them. Can’t wait for some snow!
Great Review. I am impressed by this vehicle and I sooo wanted to trash it. Would certainly pick this over the GLA or GLC at this point. Glad to see that it can actually do some light off roading with a decent tire set.
Tommy's all by himself and doing a great job! I would have liked to see both rear wheels slipping in the controlled slip test. You kept saying it was a FWD biased system but I wonder if that is entirely right.
It would be helpful for you to take an ordinary 2wd sedan, perhaps a Golf, or 2wd pickup up your low- challenge, off-road trail to compare and get a referance with these AWD street cars.
Baja Bob (the Beetle) would work well for what you are asking for. Several videos they have done show very quickly, that on low traction surfaces, you're not doing much climbing with front wheel drive.
Even though I was not considering this car, but it matches everything in my list of the car specs that I would like to buy. Even the cockpit is more moderate and beautiful than the Glc.
I am impressed first time I am seeing SUV getting out so fast from 3 rollers and the true is I didn't expect it from a mercedes 4x4 system seems better even from Audi quattro system at least on this test for overall situation I don't know. Nice video thanks.
Greg Bird ha. Because I replied to the wrong comment like a dumbass. Lol. Sorry about that. Not sure I agree with your comment about the Renegade though
senorgato70 LOL. No problem. And by being a Mercedes renegade I just mean they took classic and current Mercedes styling cues and grafted them onto a small box vehicle a la Jeep Renegade.
Greg Bird yes you are right on that point. I actually do like the Renegade because of its boxier styling. I wish Jeep would give it a serious engine and off-road package.
I don’t think anyone is taking a GLB off-road. It might be nice in a cold weather climate where there’s snow on the ground a few months out of the year
Right, and it is not an off road vehicle, except that MB has given you this car to test and you want to play nice so that MB will keep giving you cars to play with.
@@randys3010 yep, that is what I feel and posted, is what happened to Tommy. It reminded me of the Hyundai palisade video they posted when it felt like they were pushing that it was a Land Rover

I think it would have been interesting to see if there was a difference in the slip test between the offroad mode and the normal street mode. Maybe not for all of the different variations but maybe just the hardest one with 3 wheels on the rollers.
Can you or anyone on here tell me where you can buy the rollers you use in your slip test? I can't find any sold in the US, only ones from Europe. I would love to see the previous gen SQ5 tested on a hill. Excellent review, love all the gritty details.
The Family is seriously considering this as a replacement for our aging GL450. I am ready to ditch the V8 and enjoy better fuel efficiency with the 2.0T. No longer have big car seats but still have smaller kids, the 3 row option will work well for us.
2 litre might be more fuel efficient but it is simply not as nice to drive or as smooth as a V8. If buying a luxury vehicle at that price may as well be true luxury otherwise there are plenty of other 2 litre luxury vehicles that are cheaper and just as good.
My GLC exhaust sounds almost the same like diesel engine and I like it . Sense of power. Remember turbo is kind of diesel with high pressure boost. 🤷🏻♂️
4x4 tests on rollers - duszaniespokojna channel could you spot the differences? I’m currently evaluating the purchase of one. I do 50% highway, 30% paved roads and 20% mainly soft off-road
@@realidadaparte So far GLC had permanent all wheel drive system with center differential. GLB has on demand (rear axle powered via multiplate clutch-pack). On highway it will be entirely fwd.
I like the look and style and space but I would like to have this engine performance Engine 3.0L inline-6 turbo with EQ Boost or 2.0L line 4 turbo engine with at least 255 hp net. Thanks. Nice review
Hey Guys. I like your off road videos. Always fun. I was wondering if you have ever reviewed an original Mercedes ML vehicle. 1999 - 2005 W163. I hope you do. Would be fun to see what they are really capable of doing. I haven’t found a good review anywhere. You guys would make it fun and worthwhile. I have a 2003 ML 350. It’s never been off-road. I’m curious to know if it’s a semi-legit off-road vehicle. It’s definitely not overlander material, but what can it do? Thanks.
Dude, listen.. a couple of slow mo shots of car in the beginning would not hurt anyone.. so we can see how the car looks:) Enjoy your videos btw, good job.. whole team not just you.

It still is a larger SUV but not in the largest class. More like a super middle sized SUV.
its a great size for sure
This isn’t a baby g wagon, it’s a baby gls. Even the back looks exactly like the one on the gls.
Agreed. Not sure why journalists are calling it that. Literally the rebirth of the GLK/mini-GLS.
100%. Baby GLS

It actually has a really good AWD system, but that DCT is going to be the major limiting factor off road.
This is not an off road vehicle. A lot of things are going to be major limiting factors, not just the DCT.
Love this format of video review! Keep it up guys! Gotta say, the GLB is looking pretty good ;)
