Exactly
1. Select setting
2. Press start and wait as washer locks and decides correct amount of water which is always not enough.
3. Washer unlocks, stand and wait 30 secs as washer shifts to wash cycle
press add water button and add detergent. Stand and wait as adds 3 gallons.
4. After washer adds 3 gallons press add water again to get correct amount for medium load.
*washer will pause intermittently if you open lid, press start button to restart if this happens. You can select "bulk items" to avoid all the hassle of having to stand there for five minutes BUT the draw back to this is that washer will fill to max so you'll need max amount of detergent to clothes quasi clean AND you'll use much more water than often needed AND this option has a longer running time. So if you are in a hurry this isn't best choice.
Enjoy wasting your precious time for no good reason other than the you had the misfortune of buying a washer from people who hate their customers and want to make them suffer.
What if the code is not showing ❓ the button 2, 3, & 5 button are turned on, but it is not on the paper you have.
GE should be ashamed to sell this piece of CRAP! we never know if it will work properly from one week to the next

If anyone else is having issue with water coming into the tank where it is not filling up, I contacted GE and was told that it is more than likely a problem with the water pressure in your house. If you have small piping the basin will not fill up. It needs a certain psi in order for the basin to fill up with water.
GE is JUNK, Im going to see if LOWES honors my 5 yr $150.00 warranty, give me old school any day
@@psfgtech I have a Sears Kenmore set at my other home that is over 20 years old and it runs problem free. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it gets the job done and at least the basin fills up with water, so you know it is cleaning your clothes.

Not only GE, Frigidaire too. Any appliance with the computer crap is made to malfunction or go out, it’s how these companies make $$$$$
a little better information, but GE should do a video on better diagnostics, (1) how to reset system? (2) really how to find the problem? and (3) personally repair it.

This is for 'casual' setting which is what i use most.

I put my washer in diagnostic mode and hit the start button and got 7 different codes. That can't be right, huh?

Did they fix it? I have same washer, 3 years old. Oh brother give me a washer without this computer crap on it. See my answer to the one above you. I got it to turn on. It filled & went through the cycle just fine. ***my sister got a new stove, brand new by Frigidaire and it wouldn’t bake, the mother board was defective, also after 6 months her new Frigidaire refrigerator ice machine went out. Who was the A$$ who put computers on appliances?!

Please make sure you add enough detergent and put it in heavy washing .
@@FIXMYHOMEShawn I’ve did that it acts like it’s not agitating but the agitator I think is ok it don’t freely spin both ways it catches counterclockwise and the tub turns clock wise it goes around freely so I think it’s ok I think I’ve got the thing out of whack with these sensors not knowing that they were computerized I did the unplug wait like 1 minutes and did the lid thing it didn’t help it .

I am working on GE MODEL GTW 485BMK0WS and to enter diagnostic mode it des not indicate clockwise or counterclockwise while pressing the start button.
Unplug the washer for one minute the plug it back in.Then lift and close the lid 7 times.Then try using the washer.
Is that a joke?
@@MikeCheckBiloxi No GE actually has a video for it as a motor reset. It might work for some people--didn't help me.

Worked for me on a few different washers. You have to lift and close lid 6 times in less than 30 seconds. Each lift has to be above 3 inches.
Opening & closing the lid 7 times cleared all the fault codes & now my washed works like a charm. THANKS!

Tell me how to get it to fill up with water? It just barely covers the clothes. As an aside, these machines suck. They don't wash your clothes. Clothes come out filled with detergent and as dirty as when they went in. I have an old Kenmore that I'll never get rid of. It fills to the top with water and the clothes come out nice and clean.
I bought a GE washer similar to this one just over a year ago. I always had a problem with it spinning out. Now that the warranty expired 3 weeks ago, it doesn't allow water into the tub. My old Kenmore lasted 13 years with minor issues that were easy to troubleshoot😠
That's really not GE's fault though I do agree their products suck. We can blame the environmentalists who put all these demands on appliance manufacturers to conserve water. My sister is having the same problem with her dishwasher. It doesn't wash her dishes and she wind up having to wash them by hand. So, instead of conserving water they actually waste water as they caused you to have to redo the process.

My 7 year old 460 quit working today and with this video, I identified lights 256 and error code 19 which had no solution mentioned but then when I held the start button for 3 seconds, it started working again. Whatever that did it's working. Many thanks! Really a lifesaver because I have company coming and need to wash bedding, towels and such to be ready.

Fred ticoman, I’ve watched all the videos on this GE washer & 9 times out of 10 it has to do with the lid latch mechanism, I put my finger in the slot and wiggled the thing, both springs were functioning, so I closed the lid and it started filling with water. Went through the cycle fine. However I’m going to order a new one to have in hand.

My GE washer keep beeping when I'm not using it how do I fix this.
If you are NOT seeing any flashing lights when you hear it beep - that means the main board is starting to fail... it's in early stages of failure, and will need to be replaced.
One thing you can try though - is to reboot the control board by unplugging the washer from the outlet for 5 full minutes, then plugging back in.
Sometimes that can reboot the controls and stop random beeping.
If that does not work - and there are NO OTHER symptoms - the main board is going to need to be replaced.

My model is GTW500ASN0WS, serial LR999206G, and I’m probably looking at electrical damage underneath from a basement flooded and got a foot tall of water that affected the bottom part of the washer. I’m trying to figure out would need to be replaced? I opened and closed the lids six times I unplugged the machine for a minute, I press the buttons for the wash cycle it makes a noise, but then it does not show the fill button light, gyrates for a second, and does not jet water out and then makes the finish button noise three minutes later

I have error 28. It starts detecting and you can hear a motor working and also water kicks on for a second and then nothing happens after. It wont fill.

My ge top load exactly like video keeps tripping the breaker when it goes into spin mode I have to reset and turn knob into rinse and spin mode to finish any idea what that could be

Called GE direct...they have a programming module that fixes several common problems. Kudos to them, they were understanding and went outside the warranty coverage to help.

I can't believe I'm the only once that is immensely frustrated you didn't show the process of reseting it. I held down the play button and rotated the knob 7 notches but did not get the same result

My lid lock wont lock and also won’t detect when lid is closed to start the wash cycle what can i do? Get a switch or how can i reset it ?
Its the same exact washer as the one in this video
1. First checked the weight ( some time if you put to much cloth won't lock )
Then go through the step i showed in video if the switch is bsd will tell you.
Mine all on expect the first and last I didn’t see that on the list
