Gaucho Knife - Alpaca Silver Handle

- Hey guys!
In this video I show the construction of a Gaucho knife with an alpaca handle. I made it at the request of a friend who sent this alpaca handle made by a Uruguayan artisan.
It was the first time I forged a knife for a handle like this, and I found it to be a very interesting experience. I created a "house" where the nozzle was snugly fitted, and the through tang was reamed at the end of the handle, making everything very firm.
The blade was forged with 1084 and 15n20 steel, with a length of 11 inches and an approximate thickness of 5mm, which allowed excellent balance even with a large blade.

Nesse vídeo trago a construção de uma faca gaúcha com empunhadura em alpaca. Fiz ela a pedido de um amigo que enviou essa empunhadura de alpaca feita por um artesão uruguaio.
Foi a primeira vez que forjei uma faca para uma empunhadura assim, e achei uma experiência bem interessante. Criei uma "casa" onde o bocal foi justamente encaixado, e a espiga passante foi remanchada no final do cabo, tornando tudo muito firme.
A lâmina foi forjada com os aços 1084 e 15n20, com comprimento de 11 polegadas e espessura aproximada de 5mm, o que permitiu um equilíbrio excelente mesmo com uma lâmina grande.

Thank you, friend! In portuguese we call "Cloreto Ferrico". In english must be something like "ferric chloride". The second is "fosfato de manganês", or "manganese phosphate".

They look bulging, but that's because the edges deform first. In the center the material is still aligned. Thank you! 😁

As pedras são melhores, mas as minhas ficaram ruins e até repor estou afiando na lixadeira. Ali usei grão 220, 320, 400 e depois uma que dá polimento. Aí só usei o couro pra alinhar.
