- In this video I show you my favorite red velvet cake layers. No fail and always moist and rich. Please try it out yourself and let me know how it goes!
2 cups brown sugar (426 g)
1 cup unsalted butter (2 sticks, 16 tablespoons, or 226 g)
1-3 teaspoons red food gel (5-15 g/mL)
3 eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla
3 cups flour (360 g)
1/2 cup light cocoa (115 grams)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder (6 g)
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda (9 g)
1/2 teaspoon salt (2.5 g)
1 3/4 cups buttermilk (392 g)
350° 30-40 minutes

I get the whole neurotic mom bakes name. 🤗 your so calm and collected but at the same time it’s like a million things are running through your mind. I wish this cake recipe was uploaded 2 weeks prior to its original upload date. The brown sugar sounds like it makes complete sense. I really need to find vanilla extract so I can make this recipe. It is essential. I know. Cause when I made the red velvet cake using another recipe all I had was a third of the amount it asked for and it was not red velvet cake at all. As I always say like salt is essential to cooking, vanilla is essential to baking. Thanks for the recipe. Can’t wait to try.

How long does this have to cool before decorating when I do both directly after each other? And also I would like to leave out the food coloring and use dark cocoa instead, do you think that´ll be fine? By the way this sounds just amazing!!!
Hi completely freeze my cake layers before Decorating. You can leave out the food coloring no problem. It will basically be a chocolate cake

I think your conversions are a bit out. Half a cup of cocoa is more like 50g not 115g.

Hi Amy it's me again made the cake yesterday turn out great not as high as your cake i dont think it matters made extra batch and went with grams instead of cups worked out that Australia is different to America measurement I'm going to make your butter cream with Philadelphia cheese thanks again 😊
when I used 1 tablespoon of red food color my cake came out bitter. And I used same red food color brand as used in the video
You can omit the food color altogether if you’d like
I follow and copy most of your recipes. I’ve done this one today and it tastes just like chocolate cake. Is that normal?
