I am hooked on papier mache becoz of the fun and enthusiastic vibe I get and what you accomplish, blows my mind Halloween isn't very big here in New Zealand but I don't care going to get crazy learning how to make fantastic pumpkins. Thanks Jay
I wanted to ask I have my old registers and I put the paper pieces in a water bol and after 15 hours I blend the paper and water to break all the fibers then I strain as much water as as I can then I further break the the dry paper pieces and then I add drywall compound and flour and mix it properly but it is not as smooth as your clay why?
well, not sure. I use toilet paper not normal paper so that may be part of it. Its toilet paper soaked in water then joint compound and glue. I also use the handle of a spoon dipped in water to help smooth it
I love this!!!! I want to make this so I bought the all purpose pre mixed joint compound and my only concern is on the back it said COULD cause cancer due inhalation so now I’m a little scared to use it, does inhalation just happen if I decidided to sand it ?
I would say that the only way you could inhale it would be through sanding. I won’t tell you what to do or what not to do, but 90% of all building materials state that they could cause cancer. Best piece of advice I could give you is to get a good respirator if your truly concerned.
So I saw where someone asked if you make your own paper clay and you sent them a link to how you make yours. I followed the exact recipe, for one my batch didn't turn out exactly the same as I may have used a thicker ply toilet paper and maybe you added more water during your mixing? I didn't show any addition in the tutorial. That aside, was this the same paper clay you used for this pumpkin?? Mine did not come out that color as yours looks grey in this video and seems to be more moldable/easier to manage. Please help. And thank you for your tutorials they are pretty great!
Paper clay can be tricky at first even when you follow directions perfectly, because of things like you’ve mentioned.. the clay in this video was made the same way but I used an insulation instead of tp.. it works but the TP clay in my opinion is better.. you can get finer details with the TP.. what was wrong with your batch of clay? Maybe I can help you figure out how to fix it
Thanks for the great videos- I can't wait to try some of your techniques! Does adding all the ridges & detail with clay result in a fairly heavy pumpkin?
Fabulous job…thank you again and I’m very grateful for you explaining its…🙋♀️
Thank you!
