    I suspect that JP kept these bees for his own hives.

    Way cool! Found out that Rural King has a small assortment of Honey Bee supplies, frames, boxes, suits, and such. Kind of cool for the back yard bee keeper and prices where fair if you figure in shipping from online suppliers. Up here in Ohio we don't have a Dadant store on every corner so it's nice that our local Ag store recognizes our needs.

    I wish that our native honeybees here in Portugal were like those, this ones are usually very agressive, I use full protection and lots of smoke and they still manage to put stingers in the beesuit and a few of those reach my skin. Good work guys and thanks for sharing your lovely work.

    Thanks for posting all your videos. They're very entertaining.
    I have a few questions about how to handle removed bees once they're in the home bee yard. In the past when I did cutouts I left them in an open hive body and more likely than not they absconded within a week.
    I did a cutout yesterday - March 28 - and I closed them in the hive with ventilation and water. The hive I cut out of the house yesterday has already cast one swarm which I captured last week.
    How should I proceed now?
    How long should I leave the bees jailed?
    The hive is scary light on honey. There's a lot of flowers blooming.
    There's 3 capped queen cells in the hive.
    There's loads of capped brood and some open brood.
    Thanks for your time and trouble.

    I've been amazed at this video as it shows those incredibly long hanging combs! I wouldn't of thought they could sustain their own weight at that length. Wish you had the whole length open to see before you cut the comb up. I've been wondering if you do something with the wax or sell it to someone else who does. Ditto with the honey. Keep up the good work with all your buddies! Love your stuff!

    Just love watching you guys!!! We have done a few removals & we try & remember how you handle this or that...have a lot to learn but are willing to put in the time & learn.. +LLOYD'S SUNNY RIDGE FARMS I usually operate mine with the valve 3/4 of the way open but mine could be a lil more or less sensitive than your set up as there could be minor differences between different units.

    Good morning. I am curious, if you have honey residue on your finger, does it upset the bees? Are you ever amazed at the ability of honey bees to build their hives? Is man made framed hive stronger than bee constructed cells?

  • @naturallybeecharming6783
    @naturallybeecharming6783 8 років тому

    Absolutely love your vids! And totally jealous of the bee-vac you helped design. I have a 'I wonder' question. On that blue vac hose - (mines the same but black) what if it was swapped out for a similar size, but smooth clear hose? Will that make a diff? I get concerned about the bumpy ride along the tube, I have made the oops of vac-ing up the Queen. Also I was thinking I could see what's happening in the hose line. Or does the hose need to be dark to keep the beez calm? What is your opinion?

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  8 років тому

      +Naturally Bee Charming If there was a smooth interior flexible hose it would make sense to use it but honestly this set up is very bee friendly despite the pool hose (which happens to work well).

    JP why did Yappy start vacuuming bees after nearly half the comb had been removed? Why not reduce the population before removing comb?

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  5 років тому +1

      When a colony is located in a wall void relatively close to the ground we tend to use the bee vac only when necessary.
      Transferring comb & shaking bees in front of the hive box or atop frames is the norm.
      Running the bee vac the entire duration while trying to educate & produce a video is also almost impossible.
      The bee vac noise also eliminates your ability to add narration while it’s running. That’s when we add music, so you don’t have to hear the obnoxious noise it makes. 😉🐝

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  8 років тому

      +SP3NC3RXD from doing what exactly? The entire removal process or a specific portion of the video? I'm going to venture a guess that you mean the entire process.
      These bees were pretty laid back & I honestly don't recall how many stings we took if any but I guarantee you it was very few if any.

    • @SP3NC3RXD
      @SP3NC3RXD 8 років тому

      JPthebeeman Yeah, I meant the entire process. That's crazy. Whenever I see a bee, I go crazy and watch my back cause I feel like they're gonna sting me. Same for wasps. I've never been stung by a bee before too.

    Hello from Sweden!
    I have never been stung, and I am terrified of wasps(my big brother is fatally allergic). I have become very cautious of any buzzing insects since a fairly early age. However, my father has told me to kill wasps but always help a bee, and your videos are truly enjoyable because I personally can barely keep calm around even one little stinger.
    Have you ever had to deal with "killer-bees"?
    Much appreciation for your work, saving bees!

    • @JPthebeeman
      @JPthebeeman  8 років тому

      +burd1987 The state guy here believes the Africanized genes are being filtered out of the gene pool "our" gene pool. He may be correct in his thinking, I don't know, but I'm glad that most of the colonies I deal with I can deal with happily.
      I've never fooled with AHBs that I know of. I've had a few colonies tested that I could have sworn were AHB as they were meaner than junk yard dogs fighting over a hot dog but alas they proved negative for AHB genes.
      FYI, I worked for a guy 26 years ago whose Mother was killed by a single wasp sting.

      +David Furman I don't. Guy Shingleton of Denver makes & sells them. He called me 4 yrs ago & we collaborated on the design. He sent me several prototypes that I tested out & we put our heads together & came up with the end result which works pretty dang good for the beek & the bees. You can order one from Guy by calling (303) 898-1267
