  • In this episode of The Bush Bee Man, Mark is checking back in with Hives for Heroes. Before the pandemic, the Australian fires consumed their location and destroyed everything. I just want to say thank you for showcasing this veteran cause. As a veteran with mental health issues and a beekeeper myself, your time and effort in promoting bees for veterans is greatly appreciated. 🤝🇦🇺

I thank him for his service.
I have never suffered from PTSD but can’t help myself sitting and watching my bees. It is great therapy.

You guys are such wonderful people. I cannot even imagine what this family went through with not only the fire, but also being a veteran. My heart goes out to them + thank you for being such a bright light after some obvious darkness in their lives.

Well the Bush Bee Men have done it brilliantly this time. Worth a Gold Medal I reckon!
Its fantastic to see how Steve has rebuilt his life after so much trauma has been thrown at him, and is clearly able to look forwards to life and living. That's the power of bees! Well done guys.

Thank you for this episode! Much, much appreciated. As a "noob" keeper and a veteran myself, I had no idea that Hives for Hero's existed. Keep up the awesome work!

Absolute GEM!! Brought this old fart to tears.
Those who have never served can not understand the importance of what these guys are doing. Rebuilding their lives is a major step for our returned servicemen and they will not ask. We need to be there and ready to help, not judge. It is a long road.
Thanks for all you're doing for our heroes.

Who judges? Australia really only had one moment of insanity when it came to our war vets and that was the boomers during Vietnam. Apart from that period, Australia has a long history respecting our war vets.

@@wufongtanwufong5579 who judges? The government! All but a few of my friends who served in Vietnam have all passed from things that happened overseas. They came home to a hostile country. The gov of the day demod’d us just before embarkation so now I count myself as lucky. Over the years many of them tried to get treatment but successive govs denied their pleas for help.
We could only support them and their families along with various clubs & other organisations.
It does not matter to gov what service personnel go through in theatre, as soon as they are discharged, that’s it, zero help, zero assistance, they’re on their own. The people will not ask for help, they will try and keep their heads down, say nothing.
After WWII my dad went out and supported returned servicemen who were granted farming plots in western NSW, to make sure they would be ok and manage their farms best they could. They all supported each other and those I knew as a youngster were the salt of the earth, they were tight and no one missed out or was forgotten.
The governments have made noise, but from my experience their unconditional support of our service men and women has been atrocious over the past 50 old years.
      I’m quite biased.
We have a retreat up our way, it is a quiet place and veterans can go there and be alone if they need to be alone. They can chat to others, they can seek guidance, everyone one is different, but they will not inflict others with their pain, and that my friend is part of the problem….
Oh, and for the record, my mother mentioned to one of her friends my embarkation date. 2 weeks before that date they received a white feather flashed with red paint denoting blood, that shattered my dad who served in New Guinea and the islands. So yes, unfortunately there are those amongst us who do judge, and that is a real shame.

@@PilotMcbride Yes. My father and uncle have both passed from cancer according to the doctors was related to what happened in Vietnam. but not according to the government. I know full well via first hand experiences about the treatment of Vets by the government. but when i say "Australians" I rarely if ever include the government. Hard to recall when i felt like i was represented by the government

I still can't shake the New-bee part. I would have called it Jube-bee. lol
I started doing something like this after I left the ADF, well i was forced, by my wife, to look after chickens. I studied chickens for about 300 hrs.
I looked into bees, as my own idea so i did 300 Hrs of study. But all the information I acquired kind of went down into a few simple steps stay calm, relaxed and focused on not upsetting the hive. Mistakes were made, some my fault some were not. like my first hive my queen was being kicked out every time the season changed, that's how the bees did business and it hasn't changed.
From there I got into Aquaponics, producing vegetables and fish i could eat. That was 300Hrs of study before i bought that system.
So now the land i am on is pretty close to a Homestead. No cows or goats, however the study has been fun where you can combine 2 or more animals to get the best out of the land.
congrats for making this, there has been a few people who are former ADF that have gotten into bees, Mark I'm looking at you for getting me into bees.
As a side note Dr's are looking at bees and the Covid. It seems that bee stings are used to help people fight off the Covid but research is still new. Bee keepers in Wu Han are able to fend off the cold better.

14:50 Technically you're not supposed to edit the US flag like that either. Flag code subsections d, g and i prohibit most ways that so-called "patriots" like to desecrate our flag.
Not laws, mind, but it's still rather disgraceful.
