Living on a yacht can sound like a lot of things and to us, it always sounded bonkers expensive. A dream. But the reality is there is a boat for every budget. Chances are, you can take whatever your cost of living is now and live on a boat for the same. Or a lot less.
We’re stepping into the motor yacht world today with a deep dive into what living aboard a luxury yacht like this looks like. We chat about maintenance, running costs, and even dockage fees.

WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of modern-day documentarians, perpetual travelers, and seekers of tall tales.
We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. Self-reliance and living a sustainable lifestyle are a must. It's all about managing our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.
We've lived off the grid for over 10 years now in everything from a Van to RV to a Sailboat. And over time we have learned a lot about renewable energy, creating safe drinking water, and managing our waste.
Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

funny how first y'all come up with a possibility of a collab with Joe from Be Smarter and now y'all got NautiStyles on the channel! Loved it, I hope there're more collabs coming!
Because of the indepth research we've seen you do for a myriad of subjects, I really feel comfortable in just how reliable this daily supplement must be. And it comes at a point where I've just decided I wanted to look into finding a good quality product for myself. Thank you for doing the legwork on finding a fantastic product to incorporate into my ongoing quest to improve the physical quality of my life (after experiencing a long downtime due to medical conditions). Not only do I look forward to Sunday mornings to catch your videos for enjoyment, but I'm now also finding information that will benefit my personal health! Thank you ever so much for choosing this lifestyle adventure as SO many of us benefit in so many ways from it! Happy sails. 🥰
Only one problem with Floriduh, it's sinking....so those $2+million homes in and around Miami are soon to be underwater if they don't float....IMHO....
Love the double team up! Do start a boat lifestyle network and I'll handle the data science! 🚀
Wynns AND Nautistyles can't go wrong.
We had such a blast with you guys! Let's do it again! 😁🎉
Victoria & Rico
omg I was waiting for this collab!
Bring us with you again!
I love this collab. My two favorite boating channels. For some reason I never considered you two crossing paths so this was a fantastic surprise.
Count on it! 💙💛💙
Great team effort:). Luv both your channels
The two bestest sailing/motoring youtubers on the planet meet .. looks like you had a lot of fun together . Great tour , thanks
waaay too much fun!
No such thing as too much fun! 😆😜
WOW, AWESOME, MY 2 FAVORITE YACHT TEAMS,
hey Rob 👋🏻
SAME!!!
So what you're saying is if I ever have a humongous stack of paper I need to staple, all I need to do is buy the yacht so I could use its staples with a giant stapler and then keep the rest of it for a trip to the Bahamas...got it 😂 seriously though, they weren't lying when they said this tour would be detailed. This was great!
Gotta say though, a trip to South Florida isn't complete without some good Cuban cuisine or at least a cafecito! A cafecito is some of the strongest stuff on Earth.
I love following the Nauti channels.... they are a great couple with a lot of knowledge on the boating lifestyle. And the Wynns did a great job with this video - the layout, the presentation, the questions, etc.
Thanks @Jerome Hebert
I follow both channels but seeing you together is like universes colliding. Unbelievable!
😝💙🎉
Fort Lauderdale fun fact: The City of Fort Lauderdale is named for a Second Seminole War fortification built on the banks of the New River in 1838. That year, Major William Lauderdale led a detachment of Tennessee Volunteers south along the east coast of Florida to capture Seminole agricultural lands and battle the Seminole warriors. William Lauderdale also participated in the War of 1812.
As nice as that looks, I'm sticking with the 260-foot party luxury yacht I already have. You're always invited to come on board if you're ever in northeastern Asia
This was so ENLIGHTENING! I had never thought about boating like this or living on a boat versus a home in what I would call “paradise”. Thank you for putting this vid together. I’m super stoked to see this other channel too! Take care!
A home builds equity and a boat losses. Not a good idea to put your money into a boat alone.
So glad you found it interesting! @J_Rains GOAT but you can't take your home for a cruise 😝
I love that all 4 of you live in the sunshine and yet none of you look like you have more than even the slightest tan. Excellent sun screening!
whaa? did you see Rico?? 🤦🏼♀😝😂
Really enjoyed this. Getting opposing points of view is refreshing. I love both of your channels, so this was a pleasant surprise & I'm not even a boater.
I love these crossover videos, when you meet up with other channels. It was hilarious how you were disrupting the "normal flow" of how they do their tours!
😝😂🙈
Awesome video... we're huge fans of both channels :)!
You don’t need to save the best for last buddy. I will always be here. 👊🏻👌🏻
💙💛💙
Great episode! Love both these channels and the new Nautiguys channel as well! Stay safe and keep rolling!
Great to see all of you together!! I love both (actually all three) of your channels combined!
Thanks for watching! @KrisH
@@NautiGuys I always watch and always look forward to all of your videos!
Thank you all for gathering in this video. I've been a dedicated viewer of both channels for a long time, so it brings me immense joy to see my two favorites collaborating. I particularly value your advice to dive into the yacht life and learn and upgrade as we go.
This was great. I subscribe to both channels so it was awesome to see the four of you interacting. You all produce such high quality content. Keep it up!
The collaboration we all wanted but did not deserve. I hope you do it again. You all are great!
I think I deserved it.
@Bhos68 💙💙🙏🏻
When both of your yachts are finished, I'd love to see you do a walkthrough of each other's yachts. Can't wait to see both of the new yachts.
That would be FUN!
Nikki, those figures you were explaining to us and the economies of a live a board lifestyle were nearly as good as your own figure ... Lookin Good Girl!! Stay Safe & Fair Winds!!
Fascinating insights really enjoyed this vid. Great job by both couples.
I lived in West Palm Beach in a penthouse overlooking the inland waterway. Ft. Lauderdale is known as Ft. Liquordale, a bar on every corner and a nail-tech in between. My late wife and I loved to go to the Bimini Boatyard and that big restaurant on the ocean-side of the 17th Street Bridge.
Victoria and Enrico are fixtures in the yachting world and in my house. What a lovely yacht. I love the wood finish. Nikki, as you said, it's one big storage space. Well, its much more than that. For two people a floating luxury condo at 8kts. When you're young those H H Catamarans are the way to go. Maybe you'll move to a 50/55 after this one. So, next week we'll find out if you got the Zero-Jet for the tender or not...LOL! Every week is a new adventure! Love it. Love you guys! Un abbraccio forte a due!
2 of my 3 favorite youtube channels . Hope to see both with Sailing Uma
That would be fun! we are in!
Two of my favourite channels!!! Together at last. I love you all.
Great job. Luv the presentation.
Wonderful tour guys :) Thank you for sharing.
I love the power boat tours , as most of us use them for recreation. what a dreamy time!
Great vid guys, I have followed Nautistyles for years and they are great and great to see they are supporting you guys!
cute outro. I've been watching Rico and Victoria for years also. No polarization SY vs. MY in this house. It's all good, like Rico said. Just enjoy being out on the water.
😝👋🏻💙
Lovely tour guys 💕the points that you got across were awesome love it 😊 was a nice layout lots of room 🤠🐨🦘🦎🌻
Thanks Linda!
So fabulous to see you guys all together , just so great , please do it more often ! Excellent !
Absolutely brilliant video, great information and collab.
Excellent vid , we need more of this !
Loved this video collaboration! I watch both your channels and when I saw this I literally sweeded with joy.
That's so awesome that they also support you on Patreon and Victoria has mentioned you two in their videos several times. I would love to see all 4 of you do a review on a Silent Yacht.
Two of my fav channels together on a yacht tour
yeayy! 👋🏻👋🏻
Wow! Great video, lots of information. Thanks
I love Nautistyles, they are excellent at what they do! Fun, a bit wimsicle, honest and just overall good WT of all kinds of boats. /Catta
Great synergy and yachting camaraderie amongst you guys. Two favourite couples on UTube! Now where are Nick and Meagan?
What a nice treat!! Two of my favorite ladies in UA-cam land side by side. Christmas came early. Looking fabulous ladies! Looking forward to the new channel, 'Naughty Styles'
Rico and Jason, well, you know, the ladies are the stars of these channels.
This was a total surprise for me. Two of my favourite boating channels got together, met and did a tour! I’m subscribed to both of you for a long time but didn’t know you guys actually met in person. Keep up the wonderful, entertaining and informative videos guys. Xo.
You guys make such great videos! Love you both for sharing your journeys, insights and info with us! ~Kenny & Denise
Two fantastic channels. Kirstin & I (Andy) were just talking about how amazing it would be for you to do some cross over videos while in the states... and you delivered with a fantastic cross-over episode! Fantastic
Nice to see you together.
You guys could present paint drying and still make it a joy to watch! ❤
I don't know about that, but thanks for the 💙💛💙
This is amazing i watch all of their videos. First time here but I’m sure i will enjoy your content as well!
The woodwork is Gorgeous!! Huge engine room!!
❤ Last half of the video was one of the BEST you have ever done ❗ 💪
Great video, love both channels.
Nice to see both couples doing a segment. Thank you!
I have to liken this to watching your favorite actors in the same movie together. Just cool.
😁💙🙏🏻
Oh man I was excited on this one and am so glad my 2 favourite channels made this happen. Congratulations on just being amazing! #allmyyoutubecruchesinoneplace
I remember when I moved into a house (solo mum n 2 boys); and I discovered it had a dishwasher, I cried. Tears of joy obviously.
And when I retold the story to another mumma friend of mine she said “I did the same when we moved into our home!!”😂
Great Collaboration. Really enjoyed the Wynns (first video watched.)
So cool ,often hilarious and sincere .
Finally, the crossover episode i've been waiting for ! xD
I love nauti styles. The bering that they are building is by far my favorite boat
🙏🏻💙 Thanks for the love!
Fun change of pace and exploration
this collaboration made my day, my two fav streamers in one video
It has always been the freedom of the wind and the wind in your sails that motivate the sailors over the motor boaters. It is magical experience of being under sail that separates the sailors in a way that can not be duplicated in a motor boat. There will always be that argument. Having said that, it is a lot (not a little) more work to operate a sailboat. :)
That was fun guys. Thanks!
👋🏻👌🏻
It is the best way to start Sunday morning. Thanks
Love watching the four of you together ‼️
Brilliant video and thank you 😊
Dream come true! Ya'll together in the same vid!!
❤️❤️❤️❤️
ooowww thanks!
Really interesting video thanks, and a beautiful boat
This was a great crossover video! Two of my favorite channels.

I love this video. It is very informative. Smiles all the way through.
😁🙏🏻💙
Nice to see a little of a light fun video.
Great video! I love you did a cola video with @NautiStyles ! Two of my favorite nautical UA-camrs! Thanks for helping make it a fun Sunday.
This was fun to watch.
Great vid!
Its a balance between great on-water million $$ living on the cheap versus weather forecast and storm prep. That latter is constant stress. Just recognize its a trade off. In a house, you just leave and hope for the best. With a boat, you gotta haul out (expensive) and many boats that do haul out end up falling over in soft ground under jacks, wind, and flood debris....
Do it for a season or two and live the zillion life for just a few hundred bucks a month. Then, sell and get out...
Victoria mentioned an upcoming video with you guys. I have been looking forward to it ever since. And here we are, all happy campers.. lol
Nice! I didn't realize power boating was not as expensive as I was thinking. Have to look into it a little more :)
Glad you found it interesting!
I cannot Wait to see the tour of your new " Vessels ". Good choices on Both Parys. Love you All.
we can't wait either! lol
What a fantastic collaboration between four terrific folks! Sailor's perspective ...one of the things every sailor relishes is turning off the motor. I'm sure it's pretty quiet on a big Cruiser at low speeds, but the real peace and quiet that comes with wind power couldn't be overcome even if fuel was 50 cents a gallon. Alas, there's a toy for everyone!
Very interesting and great collaboration. I'm partial to sailing, but, absolutely appreciate a motor yacht. I have lived my life around water and to be honest, there is nothing finer.
Two major expenses set aside sail/motor yacht living from land living: 1) 10% min of purchase price for yearly maintenance/repair - 100,000 for a 1M yacht and 2) Depreciation 6% - 7%/yr exponentially declining as the yacht value depreciates.
1Million purchase price:
First year maintenance/repair: (100K per year ( 8,333/month))
Depreciation first year at 6% ( 60K/yr (5,000/month)). It's my experience that depreciation in vehicles etc. is often never considered. It's a real loss of money and needs to be factored.
Maintenance/repair + depreciation is easily 13,333/month in expenses that would be arguably 10,000 per month less for a land condo as maintenance is much less costly and real estate does not depreciate over the long term, but, of course appreciates.
I didn't really consider it, but, fuel for a motor yacht fuel costs would be highly variable based based on individual preference and always increasing.
So, land life is less expensive comparatively but quality of life on the water - well - that wins hands down and is priceless.
My two cents.... :). Cheers.
Great collab! I watch both of you.
These ladies are twins, with faces in profile. I love it that they know what stuff costs and how it's done. Smart ladies!
Sorpresa. Dos de mis youtubers favoritos, reunidos. Excelente.
This was an excellent video...we love Rico and Victoria! Great information...you guys asked all the questions I'd want to ask them. OH! Love the last snippet! Heading over to their channel right now.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video, we had way too much fun making it with them 🙏🏻💙
Very entertaining video. Thanks.
This was an AWESOME vid! It was very nice to go through the comparisons and honest / frank discussions on costs. Someday:-)
Glad you enjoyed it and found it interesting!
This was fun!
That what is called a cockpit motoryach. Usually they have the same boat as a aft cabin design without that lower cockpit and they offer a second design where they add the cockpit behind the aft cabin. Many cockpit Motor yachts have that rear door straight into the master suite. Meridian’s 459 is a 408 aft cabin that has the cockpit added on and that rear door entry to the master.
Two of our favorite UA-camrs together. Love it!!
Love this mashup, so hilarious! Best tour ever.
OMG… to see one of my favorite other boating couples with one of my favorite boating couples!!! ❤What a great surprise!! How fun is this!!! Love it!!
Very nice tour. So glad to see you and Victoria and Rico. I am a long time follower and glad to be NautiCrew. I just started following you a couple of months ago and so glad of this collab. By the way, the unit of measurement we use is the Victoria 😂 and it's a one or two Victoria shower 😂😜. It has become a thing. Love from France André
hi Andre! 👋🏻
Outstanding! Two of my favorite UA-cam couples in one video!
Big Fan of both of you guys.
I can not wait until you get your electric boat, I hope it is not delayed! Keep up the awesome videos in the meantime. 😀
Very nice and very informative 👍
Yay!! The yellow hula girl shirt is back!! Where was it where we last saw it? Tonga?
LOVE them
Groovy video.
Victoria and Rico sent me here!
I'm looking for a liveaboard motor yacht myself right now, to tie up in Monterey Bay in California. One of my own criteria is that it has to have either a fully enclosed upper helm or a fully instrumented lower helm. (Often, when the upper helm is the one that's most often used, the lower might lack things like a chart plotter.) Both are fine, but I want at least one or the other.
It's not that it rains a lot here, but it does get uncomfortably cool. The seawater here stays pretty cold all year round, so although summers are dry, fog or even a light drizzle is something you'll encounter fairly often. So the weather doesn't have to get really cold or really wet for you to wish you could stay warm and dry while underway. So if all I have is an upper helm, I would like at least some canvas around me that I could close off.
If I were in Southern California I could totally see using an upper helm with maybe just a bimini nearly all the time. But not only is an enclosure more comfortable for where I will actually be, but I just might want to cruise up to the Pacific Northwest at some point.
I have to say, my eyes bugged out when I heard the cost of that slip. $10 a foot is much closer to what you pay around here, with liveaboard fees usually less than $200 a month, in a spot where the cost of living is otherwise just about the highest in the country. That's not counting utilities, but you're not going to pay $1000 a month for electricity.
hey @ChrisC wishing you luck in your search!
YES, you MUST research the ENTIRE cost of maintaining.... Helicopters are super expensive... the maintenance annually is even worse ! So make sure to be a good detective. The BEST people to talk to our people who just left a certain category. For example if you can find people who recently stopped renting at a slip they will give you their more honest appraisal of the experience. I always used to interview people who just moved out of the neighborhood and it was frightening how much I learned from them so my suggestion is go out on weekends and walk and talk with anyone who will talk to you at any marina. Often the expense and the stress is far darker than you ever imagined. I say this because if you don't go into this with your "eyes wide open" it may be a costly mistake. Good luck!
@@NautiGuys Thank you very much!
@@LJ-jq8og Such is the cost of living around here that even considering maintenance costs living aboard a yacht is either a wash or slightly cheaper than a condo or apartment. Santa Cruz, California was recently noted as the least affordable community in the country. It's actually more expensive in Santa Clara County (that is, Silicon Valley) but what makes Santa Cruz unaffordable is the cost of living relative to the average income.
Not that I'd be in Santa Cruz. The harbor here has a very limited number of slips for boats over 45' or so, and even their small waiting list is years long. Fortunately, there are alternatives in the bay.
@@the-chillian BUT a house with land APPRECIATES ❗
This is a Collab I can get behind. Two great channels
🙏🏻💙
