Levy: We don't show the names because people are assholes, and will message them. Hikaru in the first episode of this series: "Who is this guy? I want to go shame him... oh, the mods won't give me his name. >.> "
As a 1400 myself I was shocked how low they both guessed. People at my level make those kind of blunders all the time, and sub 1000 players would be a lot less principled (eg. black trading down a rook when they were up a queen, white spotting the pinned pawn and playing Nd4)
As a 1460 ish player we do indeed have games like the first. I feel anything under 1600-1700 has the potential to just become a blunder fest depending on levels of concentration.
Ngl this was more fun than Levy alone guess the elo. I just came to checkout thumbnails on Hikaru's channel but sit through this whole video and loled several times.
I would love to see Hikaru's analysis of Levy's games, but I don't know how that would affect Levy's mental state to keep seeing them mid tournament. I hope at least one or two get featured by agad also
Yes! This is exactly what I was thinking! I'm an intermediate player that can beat a 1600 level player in a 30 min game. But for 3-5 minute games, i can see myself making several mistakes/blunders. The 950 level game really had head scratching though that was bad!
I think there was a lag on the scoreboard, and at 37:10 Levy saw that his score was red and Hikaru's was green, which would mean it wasn't a three digit game... and he didn't see that it was over 1600 until 37:16. Great double take there.
Game 31:00 the only reason I knew it had to be about 800 was that pin found by the bishop. I know no one below 800 would of seen that pin with the bishop winning the queen. Cause I think they played around 500 elo but that pin if you do puzzle rush is usually I think around 8 - 13. I love this series btw, awesome content!
I wish Hikaru would record his reaction every time he sees his new intros. So curious to see how he feels seeing these weird pictures with his face on them like the bind folding one 🤣🤣

USCF is 1700-something but I haven't played in a tournament in 5 years. I quit chess when I graduated high school and didn't play at all for a few years. I can absolutely crush higher rated opponents and then just forget how the pieces move and drop a piece.

The second player must guess what the random number was through only watching the game. Or guess near it, Idk I think the premise is bomb
I'm 1430 guessing before mute happens for context. Game 1: 1600 Pretty happy with this since I was leaning it was a bit better than the typical tactics/positions set up in games I play, assuming the queen loss was in fact a mouse slip. Was surprised when Hikaru started saying 900ish since 900 games usually look weaker to me. Game 2: 1900 Felt obviously much better than my level just because of seemingly perfect set ups and stuff. I went under 2000 because there was a bigger point gap at the end and I assume 2000+ games will usually be played for less material gap without significantly drawn out chain tactics. Game 3: 1500 Feels similar to my level again in terms of tactics and positional play. Lmao guessed way low on this, didnt feel like great play but I guess it was, shows my understanding heh. Game 4: 600 opening bishop trapped in its own pawns on d7, white playing g4, much lower than me obviously. Below 900 watching rest of game. Understands concepts like doubling rooks and pinning queen to king so higher than 400 for sure. Game 5: 900 This is what 900 to 1000 feels like to me typically when watching it. sorta organized opening played poorly and hanging a rook like that. Feels better than the last game which was 900 but... that game felt like an anomaly... The hung pieces feel like accidents than lack of understanding I guess ? ... how was this 1600 though o.o
