- OK Guys, it's time to take a look at the Montréal Canadiens off-season.. Is something BIG brewing in MTL? I have a feeling like Habs GM Kent Hughes is going to be very active throughout the off-season.. Quite possibly pulling off one of the biggest trades of his young career.

Yes, on Necas, dude is a stud. Hard pass on Laine. Sorry, but the guy has issues wherever he goes.
Laine is another Dach and Guhle injury prone.

Depends on the price .... Lias Anderson was a #5 pick ... So ... #5+ Josh Anderson and Dvorak for Zegras would be a win
Demidov and Lindstrom are now touted as being 4th and 5th, so why trade up?
All I'm really hoping for out of MTL, AND us fans, is PATIENCE!
I hate hearing talk of drastic moves like LAINE, PLD, even ZEGRAS...etc. Just to be able to get MTL into the playoffs. I don't like this "playoffs or bust" mentality for next year. What I would love to see is steady growth, healthy young players and high draft picks fulfilling their potential, and eventually what we get is a team that is extremely tight knit and is a top playoff contender for many years! Not just one or two swings and then it's back to struggling to make the playoffs all over again. No, that cycle sucks.
Look at Pit, Bos, TBL, Col ...etc. These teams are in it for the long term and have proven they can go all the way. And they did it for a long ass time. Isn't that what we want? A great team that wins a lot year after year and is always a threat come playoff time?
We still have quite a few gem prospects who have barely played a pro game yet right? These guys need time to adjust. Not be thrown into the fires of MTL frenzy and the world put on their shoulders.
Lets not forget that we don't even really have a bonafide star goaltender yet. No dig on the current dua, but I have my doubts they can be the studs you need come playoff time. They may prove me wrong and I'd be glad. But we have a couple of possible studs in the pipeline that are still at least a couple of years away like Fowler, Dobes (maybe), and a very possible star in Volokhin who has been lights out in Russia!
Anyways, that's my Christmas wish list. I'm excited for the future in MTL. I just hope it's long term.
Oh, and lastly, I'm hoping they draft goal-a-game Cole Eiserman (ranked top 5 in forwards), if not Cayden Lindstrom.

Seen a mock-trade i liked earlier. Necas to Montreal, and going to Carolina, Wpg's 1st round pick (26th i think it is), Jordan Harris, David Savard, and Slaf's little buddy Mesar. I think Necas is from the same country as Slaf isnt he?? Id love if we got him, and somehow got extra lucky and got Demidov!! If not there's a lot of offensive talent at the draft!!! I am already startin to get excited about next year!!! our division is so fuckin good tho, need 100 points to get a wild card spot....
I saw Necas in IHF world cup and he is good! Better then most. Any team would benefit with him on the rooster.

Huge trade coming. Many fans wont like it at first, but it will prove to be exactly the right move in the not so distant future. We are building a team to win cups.
No Zegras, or Laine, yes-to-Necas, Canes need young low cap hit players.... so keep Matheson...exit Harris, or Struble, and Heineman, who have enough show time to access their value. Canes won't have to pay for Necas and get some solid young depth players.
I wouldn't mind the habs acquiring Necas, definitely no to Zegras and Laine. The Habs need to find a guy that can score and be physical, out side of slaf they have no one in the top 6 that brings that kind of game. Hopefully they land Lindstrom at 5 and also find a way to bring in a big body. Could be a exciting summer to be a habs fan.
Within the next few years in the NHL you'll gradually start to see a shift. Montreal, Detroit, NJ, Buffalo Chicago are all loaded with too much young talent not to make an impact. While other teams age and start to feel the playoffs of years past. These younger teams should be primed to start making noise in the league

The only way they package caufield and 5OA to move up is for 1OA, which San Jose would probably refuse

Necas is right on the verge of becoming a nhl star!!!! He has all the pro traits and if he goes to the right team that has the right system for him he will explode. a 70 pt season on a Brindamour defensive first with quick strike on turnovers to a up tempo play should blast his pt potential into the sky... Im just not sure Montreal and Carolina are willing trade partners. Im sure Carolina would prefer Necas goes to the West

HAHAHA First time hearing your UA-cam, so Tell me you're from Newfoundland without telling me you're form Newfoundland LOL....Interesting trade scenarios. Seen all sorts of rumors and lots of talks. Necas, totally would become most skilled player on the Habs, bit of a soft perimeter player but thats fine. Carolina is going to be hurting for D after this July, losing a lot to UFA, this is where I think the Habs can make a hockey trade and get Necas, for Matheson and Prospect. Before everyone jumps all over it, Necas is going to want about Caufield Suzuki money, Matheson signed for another 2 yrs at 4.8, so they save about 4 million by making the trade. Matheson has proved he can put up 60 pts, plus he plays the PK and a great skater. I think it is win win for both teams, we get a skilled forward that can score and help increase scoring. Carolina gets to fill a big hole on their backend and dont have to break the bank. ....BUT here is one you never considered, Ol Kent Hughes trades Caufield, David Savard, Prospect, 26th to Ottawa for Brady Tkachuk, and their 7th or some version that gets it done ...Caufield is a little sniper Ottawa could use, Savard gives them a RHD stay home D to play with Chabot, plus a young prospect, maybe a Mesar, and the 26th so they still get 2 first rd picks. Make two trades liek that, we turn the corner into playoff contention. Sign Marchessault to a 3 yr Deal. You'd have Necas, Suzuki Slaf, and Tkachuk Newhook Marchessault, Dach Gally Armia

@@rev226 With the move I personally think they’re going to do, yes 100% in the playoffs and a possible Stanley Cup win but I’m not going to say what I think they’re going to do because I don’t want to jinx it. There is actually 3 things they are going to do next year and it’s going to dramatically change the entire team.

I personally would like to see a trade involving Mitch Marner. Would have to include at the very least Guhle or Matheson for sure.

I like scenario 3 - trade up into the top 15 using one of our many extra D and the 26th pick - but I would prefer the team be in the western conf

Diehard Habs fan since '61. I'm so sick and tired of hearing about draft choices, like they're the miracle that will save the day. If this franchise management isn't serious about trying to make the playoffs, then we need new management. Draft choices can't replace a desire to win and claw tooth and nail to make the playoff cut. If we'd have been worried about draft choices in 2021, we'd never have had a run for the Cup.
Amen. Every year people overvalue these picks. Unless it's a top5 pick. Who cares. Trade the jets pick and the pens 2nd and let other teams pay for the mystery box. habs did great trading away their late picks last year for Newhook and still got the best goalie in the draft in round 3 with Fowler

The funny thing is, Hughes has not made any such move in 2 and a half years as GM. So far he has only acquired prospects that fit into the rebuild, players he can develop. Don't see the big splash for a developed player with a hefty contract.
@@starledge Me either. Next summer, maybe, but not this summer. That doesn't mean he doesn't pull off another trade at the draft, but the so called "big game hunting" is not likely to happen until the following summer.
