My first thought was Montreal would hang around a playoff spot until roughly early March before fading. Perhaps at times even holding a playoff position before falling out. Laine is a game changer. Still need this team to stay relatively healthy however. Allowing 40 to 50 fewer goals would be greatly desirable as well . Would help the Habs keep their leads more often.
The last 12 months: Positives: - Slaf breakout - Suzuki is a #1 center and oozes Bergeron vibes - leadership and point production - Fowler shooting up league ranks as a top goalie prospect - Hutson proving he can hold his own in the NHL - Demidov draft and highest ceiling of all current Habs players - Slaf bargain extension - Laine trade completes the top 6 and marks the “end” of the rebuild Negatives: - Dach injury - Reinbacher’s mess of a D+1 season - Powerplay still one of the worst in the league
Man, that Laine deal is one of those rare win-win deals to me. CBJ gets rid of a contract that was an albatross for them, while MTL picks up a player who may have just needed a team change *and* a second round pick.
I personally feel like this season is going to have more than a few surprise feel good stories, to go along with maybe a couple of let downs. Who knows> We might see a decline in the first line production a little, but a career year by Dach and Laine, maybe even a resurgence of Josh Anderson. Lane Hutson might not be NHL ready yet, but Guhle may have a fantastic year. So, all I can hope for is overall progress, and some lessons learned if some players have a tough year. One thing is for sure. I'm more invested, or curiously interested in what's gonna happen than I've been in a VERY long time! Excited.
Even during his bad seasons, he was always between 30 and 50 goals per seasons if he played 82 match, Last year, the only 30 goals scorer we has was Suzuki, that's going to be a huge change and if he goes for 50 in a season, he'll be a god in Montreal.
The added bonus there is if things work out ok for Laine (not even talking a massive production here), it will take out almost all pressure to perform on Ivan Demidov next year who will then have the luxury of time to adapt to a reduced size rink with faster players to dangle against than in the KHL. That in itself is a massive win.
I can't wait for the season to start. If the guy's stay healthy I can see them marking crazy improvements. Other teams are going to take notice our Habs are not going to be an easy team to play against. GoHabsGo...
The Jets are my #1 team, and the Habs my #1.5. After watching him for years, I just don't see Laine having a huge impact. The Habs have struggled to build an offensive team since I was a child and I’m in my 50’s now. Granted they had some good years and the time of damphouse, turgeron and koivu was fun but for some strange reason that fell apart quickly. By upgrading their approach to building a team, and bringing in university educated staff with a modern approach to well, pretty much everything, the n just a few short years we are on the way. Sad how we suffered for so long. What bothers me so much is how few Quebec players we have in the league now. The Habs have been so uninspiring for so long, Quebec kids, I dunno, maybe the super talented ones are playing other sports. Also with ticket prices being what they are most families can’t afford to television their kids to a game. It maybe having some excitement over hockey back in the city again, a new generation of hockey mad kids will come up through the ranks. Also, the journalists need to behave themselves. I’ve been very vocal about this as the Montreal media have been slicing and dicing 23 year old hockey players for generations now and it’s disgusting. Yes they may be very well paid but they’re still young. And harassing, belittling and generally slamming them in the media is a horrible thing to do. Also some of the coaches the Habs have had in the past have been horrible as well for the same kind of reasons. I’m encouraged by the level of professionalism the Habs now have in place and this will only do us well in attracting free agents, and obtaining others in trades. So let’s go Habs!!
I said last year that if the Habs stay healthy, they had a shot to make the playoffs. Alas, neither of those things happened. Don't want to jinx things, but I think if they stay healthy this year, making the playoffs will be a certainty, and a deep playoff run is even possible. Next year will be even better when Demidov and Reinbacher have a year of pro and Fowler will turn pro and Dobes will have had a few NHL games and Mailloux and Hutson have a year of NHL under their belt. The future is bright without mentioning the other assets in picks and prospects and cap space after Price, Gallagher, Anderson, Armia, Dvorak are off the books.
can you imagine the mood if kent Hughes would of been able to pull the trigger on the Patrik Laine deal on june 28 the top of the sphere would have been blown up psychically by habs fans
Say pretty much everyone stays healthy. Especially the big pieces on offence like Suzuki, Caulfield, Slaf, Laine, Dach, Matheson; that our defence improves from last year and that our goaltending is the same or better (Primeau was on fire at the end of last season), those 12 or 13 one goal games we lost last year become wins this year which means we have a shot at the playoffs.
dude its been a long time since we've seen ANY gm actually build for the future, the usual thing is plug in a couple 1st overall picks and try to build a team around them. EVERY pick montreal has made over the last bunch of drafts has been building forwards... yeah some will be busts but... let me say this, it has been a long time since ive been hyped about skatey punchy (can we even call hockey this anymore?) but im hyped again.
I’m going into this season with hopes of us fighting for a wildcard spot at the end of the season. Everyone got better. laine can teach cole some goal scoring tips and eventually ivan when he makes the switch to the NHL. I feel really strong about the whole team, and I love Monty but that’s where i feel we are the least competitive.
I'm still going to stick with my 85-90 point prediction on how our season goes. I think if we finally catch a break on everyone staying healthy (knock on wood, down a cup o' Mary Brown's gravy), and all the major boys hit their stride then maybe even a little better! I'll be happy with progression and strong seasons, in any event. Plus, if we manage to finish ahead of one (or more) of OTT/BUF/DET in the Atlantic standings, I'm making some popcorn to watch said fanbases turn into radioactive salt mines XD.
@@dacp1213as a Habs fan, those last 2 games of the season were some of the most thrilling games to watch. The anticipation of Hutsons arrival + the wings vying for a playoff spot made for quite the storylines. Ps you guys have a goooood one in Seider
This year will be sick! Maybe not winning the Cup.....but will surely have some punch and scratch some teams that are in the top shelves. And who know's, they ca still be able to access the finales?
The fact that we've really improved this off season and I dont see us being any higher than 8th in the Atlantic really shows how strong it is.. I hate that we're in it
Montreal agaisnt Utah in 4. That’s my stanley cup finale prediction with an hatrick from Laine, Slaf, Caufield and Montenbeault and even St-Louis on the PP
Well I'm going to knock on wood while saying this, but actually yeah, I think that this on paper, this team has what it takes to, at the very least, be fighting for a place in the playoffs........a lot will depend on what our goalies actually are capable of.....we'll see.
The thing that I see no one talking about is what is our plan for next off season. Surely we are no where near a playoff team for 24/25, so what happens if we end up with another top 5 pick. Our forward and d core are already set for the future, then you add Fowler in the mix as a hopeful #1 goalie. Who do we take with that pick? Trade it? Or do we add to the core and have someone like caufield maybe pay the price for having too many guys in the system. This is a good problem to have but it is certainly something to think about going forward.
I feel like it's another step in the right direction. If Liane doesn't pan out. Like you say. He isn't here for long. Also with Harris gone just gives a little room for other younger d men.
Playoffs are possible but unlikely unless one of the Bs, Bolts, or Laughs fall flat on their faces. What I expect is that we'll put pressure on the wild card race until April 1st at minimum.
the big question everyone keeps asking feel right now is Patty L. Im not too concerned tbh. The guy is hungry, hes got the motivation to get where he wants, if he didn't feel he had a chance with Montreal, he probably wouldn't have come. Im not saying were gonna be bottom feeders again, and if we are. Questions are going to have to be answered. But i feel with what we got right now, its all about taking another step up the mountain, and see what the guys can do. And as I previously mentioned about the trade, its huge for us. He only adds more depth which is what you want. Go Habs Go!!
Laine's acquisition feels like Josh Anderson's signing. Both came out of Columbus, and MTL fans are saying "finally we got a fast power forward who can score goals." Now they want to get rid of Anderson because he's underperforming his $5.5 million contract which is well under Laine's $8.7 million. I hope I'm wrong making this parallel, but...

Say pretty much everyone stays healthy. Especially the big pieces on offence like Suzuki, Caulfield, Slaf, Laine, Dach, Matheson; that our defence improves from last year and that our goaltending is the same or better (Primeau was on fire at the end of last season),
those 12 or 13 one goal games we lost last year become wins this year which means we have a shot at the playoffs.
Love the content, brother! Keep it up bud!
dude its been a long time since we've seen ANY gm actually build for the future, the usual thing is plug in a couple 1st overall picks and try to build a team around them.
Im hyped for this season! Go habs go!
Laine et Les Boys are ravenous, good thing Chef Hughes is cooking up something spicy in the kitchen.
Hughes is a genius…. If we beat the injury bug this year I think we will contend for a playoff spot
Can’t wait for the next few seasons gunna be a solid few years
You know we are doing something right when you have Detroit fans whining like leafs fans haha
wings fan and im excited as hell to watch the habs future....LFG!!!!
@@dacp1213as a Habs fan, those last 2 games of the season were some of the most thrilling games to watch. The anticipation of Hutsons arrival + the wings vying for a playoff spot made for quite the storylines.
Ps you guys have a goooood one in Seider
Offseason dreams!
despite the cool habs offseason stuff, its pretty cool how for me when he said to hit the like button the like button highlighted for me
This year will be sick! Maybe not winning the Cup.....but will surely have some punch and scratch some teams that are in the top shelves. And who know's, they ca still be able to access the finales?
Good vibrations 📳
Stéphane Richer last Canadien to score 50!
We now have 2 potential 50 goal men!
Crazy
What about Kirby Dach? You skipped him in your last video...also Sean Farrell.
Also with Harris gone just gives a little room for other younger d men.
kinda reminds of Ottawa's 2022 offseason but lets hope Montreal at least makes good out of their's
I got 0 worries with Laine, this guy is gonna prove absolutely everyone wrong
everybody is sleeping on Cayden Primeau and Logan Mailloux. they are gonna change the club this upcoming season, mark my words.
Can't wait to have a #1 goalie
This coming season? I'm as giddy as a 13 year old girl with a huge crush on a grade 12 hockey team captain.
Probably better than the actual hype video the Habs will release, but no Mario Armia?
were gonna have a hell of team man !!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😆😆😆😆😆
my TOTs are....WOOOOOOOOOH!
He also signed Kapanen to his entry level.. just figured I’d toss that in.
Not sure if sarcasm, but that's not Paul Byron ; that's her son Rene-Charles.
Let's pray our key players stay in good health for the whole season 🙏🏼
And they got Saku's son! You Forgot Attos! :D
Junkie so insightful
GORTON GOT A DRINK! is this video strictly all the recycled clips?! I love it lmao
Was hoping they’d also trade for Askarov that would’ve been insane
Laine's acquisition feels like Josh Anderson's signing. Both came out of Columbus, and MTL fans are saying "finally we got a fast power forward who can score goals." Now they want to get rid of Anderson because he's underperforming his $5.5 million contract which is well under Laine's $8.7 million. I hope I'm wrong making this parallel, but...
BTW Your Friend Paul Byron is actually Charles-René Angelil, Céline Dion Eldest son!
We really need a top 5 goalie !!!!
