Perfect timing, I really needed to see this right now. My therapist is helping me with my hoarding issues, and I have a shed full of fabric, and my second bedroom is half full. If my daughter would come to visit, there would be no room for her to sleep, and that was one of the main reasons why I wanted a 2 bedroom apartment.
I think the big difference is in how they are handled. On Hoarders, firstly they're in it for the ratings, and drama sells. They also don't deal with the trauma factor of why they've become hoarders, they just show up and start throwing things away, of course that's going to stress someone out. They also do it all in just 3 days, where here, they help the person to work through a long process. Much less traumatizing.
Repent from sin and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved from God's eternal judgment and damnation. Jesus died to forgive us of our sins and arose to give us eternal life! Jesus saves!
The British way of handling excess stuff is lovely. I especially like finding stuff to sell. The whole key is purging some stuff as time passes. As a crafter I get how supplies accumulate . So have been taking excess stuff to thrift stores. Love this series.
Here in the US, an outhouse is an outside bathroom for people with no plumbing! Every time they spoke about her overflowing outhouses I had a very different picture in mind!
Keep it Simple. Example: I have 5 book shelves. The only books I keep are ones that fit into these shelves. I only keep books by my favorite authors. I limit the number of authors I collect to 3. The other books are one-offs. I keep open areas for bookends and collectibles or knick knacks. If I buy a new book I must have space for that book on the shelf or I have to get rid of a book in order for the new book to remain. I donate my old books to the library or other organizations so that other people can enjoy them, too. I see it as a gift to others to donate my well loved and no longer needed book. If I have a need for sentiments I can take a picture of that item so I have it to look back on. I can also make notes aboit a book that I have read, why I liked it, what inspired me, etc. These things help me to love my things and not become a hoarder like my mom was. I love books. I love stuff. All kinds of stuff!! I could collect a million things but I choose not to so that I can enjoy what I currently have and just live day to day life without having too much to overwhelm me. I always seem to have things to donate and that's okay. New comes in and old stuff goes out. It's the way of life. And we have to accept that. Also, by not collecting all the things you can enjoy other people's homes and their collections. The internet is now a great resource for learning and reading everything!! Books on Kindle can keep you from creating a hoard or being bombarded by a hoard. You just have to make the decision to say I can let go. I can let go because I'm not going to be here forever and as my time is limited I should enjoy all that I have while I'm here. The rest of what I don't use can go to someone who can use it. I would like my items to remain in good condition until it is passed along to someone else. So I have to be able to keep my things and my spaces clean and maintained. I will not neglect my family, my responsibilities, my own life for the sake of my stuff. I can let go because I refuse to have so many things that overwhelm my family after I pass away. I can let go because when I look at my things they make me happy. I can let go because I want my family and friends to look at my things and it brings them happiness peace and fond memories. And if it does none of these things.... It has to leave. And I say good bye. 👋 I make sure the item leaves my home within 3 days. If you set a time limit you will find it helps you to stay on task and focused. And most importantly....If you need help ASK SOMEONE. 💜🙏💖
I would love their assistance. I live in America. I like how they aren't rushing you. They show respect and care about the things you care about. I think that's why the ladies were so kind and didn't have a challenging time in letting go.
Maybe you could advertise. My daughter helps people with their clutter and cleaning. She helped a woman who was a hoarder. We live in Canada though. I hope you find someone.
YES! Local houses of worship, donation bins, etc. Lots of organizations will even pick up from your home for free. The Lupus Foundation lets you schedule pick up online. You just leave the stuff on your front porch or in the lobby of your apartment building.
I enjoyed seeing how something that looked impossible, really was doable.. it is sad how something that we like can snowball into a messy clutter that just keeps growing. Until it overtakes your environment and life.
Lillian and Lisa seems like such a sweethearts I am glad they are doing well in their new space and life also Lisa's grandbaby is OMG CUTE! Glad everything is working out for the two
I feel like my house currently looks like a hoarding house 😭😭. There's paint cans and random tools and broken furniture scattered everywhere on top of normal mess especially the garage because the whole place needs renovating.
I really appriciate the help the hoarders get in UK compared to US. In UK the people are kind, warm, respectful, and sell some items. In US the helpers and the hoarders and their families are more aggressive. I think that’s a cultural thing. And the aggressiveness and the stress and rush seems not be helpful for the cause either. The end result is good in both continents. 🇸🇪
I think this is just a classier show. The American TV shows seem to be trying to trigger high stress, screaming and fighting on purpose. But also not all hoarders have items that are actually valuable.
It could have something to do with the amount of time each show spends with the hoarders. in the US, they have to &et things done in 3 days, or it could have taken a week behind the, in the UK, they work with them for 6 weeks...or so it seems. 😉😊
If they brought in a better staff, like the competition (?) who has Dr. Stelios Kiosses and Zoe and I forgot the other woman’s name.. so sorry.. they’re clearly more patient, more experienced and much more compassionate. And Dr. Kiosses makes me feel that he actually managed to move the needle and the hoarders are equipped with the tools to help themselves. Whereas here, Curtis usually undersells their valuable stuff and it’s clear that he’s on a deadline to find something and sell it, so he takes things the hoarders don’t want to sell and gets very little money for it - but oh! We need it for the show…
@@reginagrobosz8807 you not like cleaning should motivate you to get rid of everything, the less you have the less you have to clean, good luck, take life one day at a time.
it would be fun to team up with people like Suitcase Trains, sewing groups, and other special interest businesses and see lots of items go to where they'll be treasured.
Yes! I was just going to essentially same the same thing. He tells the buyer what he wants, and you can see the happiness in their faces at the low ball price they’ll pay. Shouldn’t he be haggling to get the most he can? Very unfortunate for these homeowners.
Why do they go to Scottish dealers and markets? They don't make very much money for the people selling their kit, they would make more selling the stuff for themselves online
And it you looked through stuff they had, there were much more valuable items in the lot. Then they go to a low level junk store to try to sell it? Who produces this garbage?
Both her rooms are now practical and useable, if not totally cleared of stuff. But as a costume designer you will need a lot of material and other bits and bobs in your studio and storage. She still got rid of a huge lot and organized the rest so that she can find it and get to it when she needs it. That is a win in my book.
That guy, Mr. Curtis is a charlatan. She had 200 Ladybird books which he said would go for $50-60 each. Then he offers her $1,000 for the lot of them. It should have been at least $5,000 which is half of their value so includes a profit for him. He can get $10,000 for them. So what a way to rip her off.
As a claustrophobe, I couldn't even watch the entire episode, but had to skip through various parts. I just cannot fathom having so much junk that there's no real home.
OMG indeed, always those low returns. The so called specialist Curtis . . . when did he ever get a great price? Lazily going to a middle man instead of the end costumer. 😨
This show is such a waste of time. They don’t even help the hoarders and waste screen time seeing if a piece of junk can be sold for $25? The two “Experts” especially the woman, is nothing more than your average junk shop proprietor. Who is the editor here? Get a story line, get some hosts with credentials, like the US version has and stop wasting everyone’s time. This poor woman who got $300. Big wow. And the other straightened her backyard shack. This passes of interesting in the UK?
The slow movement of this show gives me anxiety😅. Get on with it , and stop all the talking! I just want to dive in .😂So the “ organizer “ does nothing for the clients except talk?🙁
Equivalent to a yard/rummage sale, but usually people gather on a specific spot (parking lot for instance) and sell their stuff from their car, hence the name "car boot sale"
I like the way the British handle hoarders, they don’t shame them, make them scream and force them into a panic.

These hoarders are so much saner than the ones on Hoarders

When she goes “buttons, feathers…” I thought she was naming the cats 🤣

At least it's not dirty and yucky, just stuffed and probably dusty. Even the dogs don't look bad.
Yeah I was surprised at how organized it was. Better than my room xD
Minimalism changed my life!
Hilarious that they call the sheds outhouses. Those are outside bathrooms with no plumbing in Canada. Lol
Same here in the states! Outhouse = privy. I chuckled every time they said it

The hoarding always seems to be the result of past trauma(s).
As a costume designer myself, the title is physically and mentally attacking me.
Her dead husband looks like he was a really nice guy! My husband is one of those too! Love of my life! 25 years married! :)
Lisa’s kids are amazing!
Lisa: traveled the world and has an amazing collection of stuff
Curtis: so 5£ for the lot?
