I'm a mechanic but was struggling after a New Wheel build not wanting to scratch the Shiny Silver rims while mounting a stiff wide rear tire and its 2 rim locks on an Old YZ 400 This method worked great. I used short 2x4 blocks instead of hammer handles. Thanks so much!
Yeah man this is a great tip. I've shared it with several guys. Easy approach...I feel sorta dense for racking my knuckles all these years :) That's why I like dirtbikers. They're a common sense bunch.
Thanks for the tips on opening up the tyre to slip in the rim lock. I have been struggling with this and left the rim lock off. Today I installed it using my levers inserted sideways to open up the tyre and hey presto, heaps of room and rim lock installed 🎉
Man I didn't install mine either but mine is the front tire way skinny compared to the rear of my kx250 do you think this method will work for my front tire I've already hit the front brakes and my tire moved and I don't want to rip the valve off 😮
Great! Thanks a heap.. I'm fixing-up a very old Honda dirtbike, and haven't changed dirt tires in a VERY long time, so this was perfect. PS- I had (and used) that exact same brown-handled screwdriver
thanks bro. Tried to put a new rear tire and tube on my son's rm65.after work. Valve stem was a pita and we ran out of daylight. Well, I know what to do tomorrow now.👍
i always put my rim lock(s) on before i mount the tire and use the rubber spoke protector band thingy to hold it in place. I will use this on the valve stem next time though. Good tip!
mototrippin Yep I use the same method as you and have done for over 10 years it’s much easier than this method of ramming a hammer and screwdriver plus the kitchen sink into the tyre!
Bravo. I just attempted my first rear tire change. Tube was a bitch to deal with but managed after an hour......... Wound up with a pinch flat before getting the second side of the tire bead set. &*()^%$! Anyway, this will help at the second go once I get a new tube. Thanks
Just leave the rim lock on at all times, there's no need to take it off. Plus the best way to install a tube is to put the tube in the tyre before mounting the tyre.
Ian9toes yea...i was thinking that while watching the video, why wasnt the tube put in first. I always put the tube in with a little air to prevent pinch .
WOW, I hope you are Not still changing tires the same way shown Here.!!! Uh, The rim lock should be on the wheel Before you even put the tire on... AND the tube should be inside the tire before you begin to put the tire on.
Thank you. I can not express enough how grateful I am for this rimlock tip.

Greg Weirick I’ve been feeling a lil slow not being able to put rim lock back in rm85 big wheel. Most specifically helpful video I’ve found on youtube

Had to watch it twice, you're cute doggy stole the show.
That's a great technique. Thank you very much for taking the time to share.

Great Tip - Wood really works best as a SPACER❤
Thanks Jrad. Worked great on my 1966 T100SR.
Good tip. Also helps to open the tire up by inflating a tube inside the unmounted tire and letting it sit overnight.
What a big help
Great! this is the best way ever
Thank you so much!
Awesome! Worked perfect!
I'm going to use this next time !
Can I know the size of your rear tire? And also the front tire. Thank you so much for this video.
Slick tip! Damn, why didn't I think of that!?
Did you have both sides beads broke
Awesome tip! Thanks.
Over here in America we put the rimlock on before the tire goes on😂
Shits about impossible with mine. This technique is a lifesaver
Thanks!!!!!
The last thing you want to hear when dealing with tires and tubes is "BOOM!" LOL!!! Good viddy, yo!
thank you for that, broster
Niceee thanks
You need to put your outro where the intro is. It is much better and catches peoples attention faster. Love the videos though.

I was seeing the risk of this pinching a tube
cool dog
brilliant...

Great, I hope this will make my life less miserable :D
Berapa harga nya mas
I put mine on first under the rim tape, tyre on after. Your method is a complete struggle and can see how much by the butchered rims. 😖
Who takes the rim lock off anyway. There’s no need. Also the rim lock needs to be located underneath the rim tape not over it.
