When I was in school a million years ago, we learned to use "available light," which according to our professor was any light that was available, on scene or in his trunk. He also preached, "You cannot create light if you cannot first see light." Man, you see light better than most. You speak humbly, but your work shows your true mastery. Keep doin what you're doin.
Man, you may not consider yourself a cinematographer but you're a natural talent in creating moving imagery. Keep advancing in the craft cause you really got the eye for it.
I have been watching your lighting videos on a loop while working with my a7iii. I really appreciate your insight and am so excited to grow as a film maker. Just like John, my college photography teacher, always said, “It’s all about the light” 🌞
filming a short this weekend mostly outside and unfortunately don't have a $100k budget lmaoo so this was perfect timing for the video and got me excited for this weekend, gonna have fun. Love your style of videos and this one was no different! much love
I'm from Brazil, sorry if the English is not correct, I translated using Google Translate. Anyway, you are very good at teaching and passing your eyes on the footage, many things I see on your channel, are things that took me a LONG time to learn and you manage to make everything very clear and simplified. Congratulations on the message about not getting lost in the pursuit of perfection. I'm a fan of the channel, I hope it continues forever! I'm sure it will grow much more!
I make music and I decided I'm gonna start filming my own videos. I can't thank you enough for the constant gems. You make this easy to understand. Esp for someone like me, who's not a pro.
you are such an inspiration, so glad I found your channel, so much precious information and I really like your attitude towards just starting to create and not try to overcomplicate things, this really motivates big time, thank you so much
Studying for my midterm and a new Vuh project dropped... smh Imma pick a new vuhlandes video over an exam every time unfortunately... lol Another great video! Insightful too, I have so much trouble with lighting and own one of those Flag/ diffuser / reflector things and had no idea how to use it. lol
I love your stuff, dude. You're very inspiring. And the look of your images feels genuine - for lack of a better term. Uniquely YOU. And I love how you acknowledge that the word "cinematic" includes SO MANY different types of visual aesthetic. Thanks for the personal insight.
great video 👍! simple tips but they make a big difference in the image. i still remember the day i learnt about the triangle and shooting shadow side, it was a game changer for me.
Thank you! Definitely on the same page here....I love using natural light with my photography. I'm also a firm believer in using what you have without adding all the bells and whistles. In my personal opinion, natural light sets a better mood for the photo and like you said, there is always a way to manipulate that natural light (precise posing for the best effect or reflectors) to your benefit without dragging out unnecessary and expensive source lighting.
Damn I had deja Vu for the intro video. A few recycled clips and the Christmas music again. I would love to see what you could do with a BMPCC 4K and some cheap Canon lenses. Like what you could shoot on a budget in terms of cinematic video quality. Thanks for all the info you put in these. Looking forward to the next vid as well.
This is dope and informative. THANK YOU! Beautiful shots. @7:29 - mannn, YES. This is a huge challenge I encounter at times with shooting with natural light. The clouds want to steal the show - literally, lol. But seriously, when the clouds shift and change the brightness WHILE recording, it "ruins" my shots. How have you worked with that element of surprise?
Hey man i know you made this a year ago, but me and my friends are tackling the task of making a movie this summer and already ive learned a lot. Pprecite you bro🤞

He said he’s not a professional lighter 🤣 Well you’re pretty darn good at what you do! Professional to me!
The part at the end when you apologized if the viewer didn’t get anything useful from your vid really shows your humility 👍

“It’s not going to be perfect, just make things” is a motto that really freed me from my worries. Love that.

This is a fantastic term, the cinematic trinagle - really nice phrase to keep in the head and work with.
its so true what you say about "just doing" things even if you don´t own the best gear etc. !
great video 👍! simple tips but they make a big difference in the image. i still remember the day i learnt about the triangle and shooting shadow side, it was a game changer for me.
