This is a History Mini-Series covering the desert near Ballarat, CA. So much history is overlooked in this area especially related to the 49'rs that escaped Death Valley through the area.

On this adventure, we tour up Goler Wash towards the Barker Ranch where Charlie Manson was captured on October 12, 1969. We also visit the Newman Cabin where Charlie Manson marked the walls.

These are great videos. Love your dad's stories, at least you got some on video.
I also live in Ridgecrest, and worked at China Lake. I was lucky to be able to see the Wingate Road on the base side. Therer are still pylons from the monorail up there, similar to the one in Death Valley that was recently pulled down by a stuck 4 wheeler

The pioneer party that suffered deaths coming through, and named ' Death Valley ' came down Goler Wash, with the surviving ox that carried three small children. It's how they came down out of the Panamint Mtns. They made it to the Castaic area, where friendly Mexican ranchers took care of the ragged party. The ox was left in this area, it was never slaughtered, nor ever had to work again. It's name was ' Old Crump.'

I've been buzzed at the top of slate range more than once, with them sneaking up the hillside on us, popping over the top, and hitting the afterburners just as they got to us. Pretty shocking experience. You could almost hear them laughing over the roar of the engines.

Back in the Feb. prior to 9/11 I was camping by myself in Ballerat. I met a guy who was there with his son (16th BD perhaps). They had Rokon MCs. We went up to Panament City..man was that something. I road my Mt. Bike up the Golar Wash and damn near didn't get back from Barker's ranch. Every morning for a few days I had Pilots dip wings to us There are several abandoned mines in the area. The World Beater Mine was another one I recall. We camped there (lots of buildings) and had the shit scared outa us at night by Wold Donkeys. There was a Dude who lived there and looked after things for the Owners. He had a French name. All fun.

Hi, I've been doing research on Barker Ranch, and other Manson sites, and glad I found these vids from you, and your Dad. I do a lot of vids out near area 51, and get buzzed all the time like you both explained. How do you, and your Dad think the family got the bus through the wash. I can't believe what the girls said that he flew it in. Thank you

The bus was drove in from the Vegas side of the valley. The girls would have to get out and fill gaps in the road with boulders. The trip took a full day and destroyed the bus

Love your videos, Ed! Guy in red jacket is a great story teller too. Would love him to be my tour guide! I’ve been through DV but not off road. Thanks for the trip. ✌🏻

Great vids. I glad you commented on seeing crazy things in sky. I've seen some things also that didnt make any sense. But I've seen the b2 stealth spirit bombers. Look like something from a Ridley Scott alien movie the way they maneuver. I lived in the Mojave desert also. My dad was stationed at ft Irwin in the 80s

I know Manson was not right in the head . But seems by all the things I have seen on Manson. He was very smart.

Yes he was. Did you know that Manson had an I.Q. of 122! Too bad he didnt use his brain
      for better things.
