- Single malt Taiwanese whisky from the King Car Distillery, released as part of their Kavalan Solist range. It was matured in a cask which previously held tasty Port, imparting in-your-face fruitiness. Cask O100901024A bottled 2017.10.03. This is the second port cask we've brought the channel, but this one coming in this less impressive packaging also comes in WELL under 200 dollars and might just be the best value in whisky, PERIOD!

Hope you boys are keeping well. Just revisiting your old Kavalan reviews, they are fun watching. The sweetness you describe here seems somewhat similar to Vinho Barrique. This or Vinho Barrique?
Depends on the VB. I had a 2016 or 18 that was well done but they have slipped lately... The port will always be sweeter to me. If that's your preference, try it.
Love it so much, I bought 3 of them. 2 of them are the brown label, the 2 are as black as coffee, even with a small dram u can't see through the liquid. The other bottle is a bit lighter, but is one of the coolest kavalan bottles from the "inscription" series
Never a bad idea to stockpile whisky you enjoy and at this price, why not.
@@topshelfwhisky I'd stockpile more right now tbh. I have family that live in China and the propaganda against Taiwan is getting pretty intense. I don't think we'll be seeing kavalan for much longer

HolyShite, the only bottle of Kavalan I have but from 14 Dec 2017 and still 59.4%. Agree with the HUGE grape and honey. And the timing/mood has to be right. CHEERS!
And probably better this isn’t your first drink of the night. Unless you’re sticking with it

I have about 20 but always need more.
I love this whisky as well. I have a chance to buy Kavalan "Solist" Manzanilla or Kavalan "Solist" Amontillado but can only buy one. Which one should I buy?............Cheers!
Amontillado by a slight margin. Both are excellent, we have reviews of both and the PX & Moscatel

Sounds amazing. Gonna look to Europe for some of these. EUR/USD almost at parity!
US exchange rate is our friend at the moment but she is a fickle mistress.

Nothing, other than those were priced higher in my experience. Kavalan likes to play with their packaging a lot (no pun intended).
@@topshelfdustin3060 Ah, I see. I was able to get my maroon bottle version at auction for under $100 a few years back so I guess I got lucky. Which of the two do you preferrer?
@@michaelmanganiello8209 They're all single barrels. But of the two I have....honestly I couldn't tell them apart blind. Just massive port bombs!
@@topshelfdustin3060 Heads up, I ordered two more bottles of the maroon port casks (2018 bottling @ 56.3%) from internet wines for a buck thirty and they just arrived in the mail (with two bottles of The Irishman 17 2004 as well). Wanted to make sure they were legit before letting you know. The port casks seem to be a barrel pick of sorts as they do not have the Solist title?
Difficult to get my head around the cloying sweetness in this bottle. It does seem to lack contrast. NyQuil is an excellent descriptor. Thanks for the review. Personally, I wish I'd bought a different soloist.
Even tho I know you guys do this all on one day, I just smell Mike’s shirt w old deodorant trying to mask it w cologne and Dustin’s shirt w that old dusty, musky old tee shirt smell w some sweaty old hat mixed in. Too many in the same outfit is what I’m getting at lol
maybe wardrobe changes?
lol, yeah I know some channels change shirts. Seems excessive to me.
