This is a great video on how to fix this issue! If you think you can't do it yourself after watching this video you are wrong! It took me more time to watch this video than to do the actual repair. So simple and a hug money saver. Thanks again!
Thank you for this video, it helped me track the problem and fix it for less than $10. Apparently this is a super common leak in f150’s. You saved me a bunch of money.
I have a 14 model F-150 5.0 and I've been noticing a spot in the gravel where I park. And when I went to change the oil today discovered a coolant leak from the upper radiator hose. I'm glad I watched your video before up and buying a entire housing that holds that $5. o-ring. Thanks a lot.
Me too, $ on the water pump replacement, then the o-ring replacement $130. Seriously, why would any engineer design a quick disconnect for this is hose? Thanks for the vid, Brad, nicely done!
Though I have a f250 I have experienced the same dilemma when it got cold while I was working in Tennessee this past week where the temp dropped below freezing several nights. I thought I was crazy to think that it was due to the cold contracting the heater connect hose and expanding when the temp warmed up. However you just confirmed my hypothesis. Thanks again
Good video. Tip, check your antifreeze levels for the next few days after you do the job. Most likely you will need to add more antifreeze to get to the appropriate level.
Thanks so much for posting this video. I was planning on doing a complete flush and changing all of the hoses and seals in the spring, 22F here in New York today. Called my local Ford dealer and between the call and the work took me all of an hour. Be safe.
Thanks you for posting this video! I thought that I needed A new radiator and after I watched this video I realized I had the same issue. It saved me a few hundreds bucks replacing the radiator and it only cost me $5 !
I've got the same problem at 70,000 miles I'm guessing. I live in Minnesota and the temps have been dropping -28 that's when I noticed no heat all of a sudden. Added a gallon of 50/50 mix to get some heat to travel through the heater core. I've been smelling antifreeze for a couple weeks prior. I've been educating myself about the issue by looking online it seems this is the best bet culprit. I will be doing the fix myself seeing as it can cost hundreds of dollars by the dealership for a $5 part and about $20-40 in coolant. Seems like a no brainer. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the video. Sure enough, mine failed during the cold weather (9F) I fixed it using all new parts, but still a cheap fix and with the help of your video. Sorry for the folks who paid someone else to fix. It took me 30mins, a flat tip screwdriver, and needle nose vise grips. I spent a total of $40.
Just got cold in GA. Mine is doing the same thing. If this fixes the issue I will be a happy camper since my original 2014 f150 water pump failed at 46k. Hopefully it is this cheap and simple.
I've been chasing down my '14 5.0 cooling problem for 1.5 months this winter. Losing coolant, no heat, erratic engine temps... Was going to do pump, thermo, and maybe pressure sensor all while it was open, but found your video. Reached under that hose, and voila! Coolant!!!! I'll try it out and let you know how I made out. What's the worst that could happen? $5 o-ring and coolant I was likely to go through anyway...🤷♂️ Update: Ford parts counter ENCOURAGED me to also replace the upper hose and new 'T' joint + more coolant. $70+$56+coolant+fees+taxes+$135/hr shop time(IF I had them do it...) $7 o-ring and a gallon of premix. Thank you! NEXT
Great video. My 2013 F150 had the same symptoms at 82K miles - it leaked only when it was cool and only small amounts. Thanks to this video and a trip to the Ford dealer it was fixed in 15 minutes. No telling how many people were taken advantage of by dishonest car repair shops because of these leaky o-rings.
Thank you, helped me a lot! Only was able to find it leaking ONCE, but would come out to puddles daily for the last few days. Part is around ~$10 still at the dealer. Quick and easy fix, thanks again.
Thank you for the video! Saw that puddle under my truck one morning. Based on a quick look under my hood, this seems to be my issue as well. I can spend ten bucks myself before I take it to the dealer. If nothing else, I've gotten to turn a wrench for an hour or so.
Yeah it’s probably just the O-ring. Take your belt off and make sure the water pump doesn’t have any play. Typically if the water pump goes bad you’ll see the water leaking from underneath the pump.
This was very helpful! It has been as cold as -12F this week, mine started dripping rapidly. Thank you for showing WHERE the seal sits, it was hard to see. $9.83 for part from Ford.
Thank you so much for posting this. Very informative and easy to follow. Posting the part number and the step by step was easy to follow even for a non mechanical guy like me.
The O rings are always round, the use ones get squared up with time and thats why they dont seal anymore! There’s this guy that sells the whole set of O rings on ebay for like $12 dls. I know because the stealership wanted to replace the whole Coolant Y pipe where the O rings go for $250 dls because the warranty didn’t cover that, and I said screw you give my truck back and what I paid for my warranty!!! Took my truck home replaced all the O rings and done!! I believe is like three or four in the kit
Excellent video....thanks for posting. For me, it turned out the hose itself was the culprit with deteriorated rubber in several places. BUT...your video gave me confidence to change it out myself. Thanks...
I would like to thank you for a VERY descriptive step-by-step video. I just completed the task in less than 20 minutes..... THANK YOU for the help!!!! JS
1) Cost me $12 CAD lol 2) the "RTS1073" part number is the new replacement number for the old "BC32" number according to my Ford Parts guy. 3) the easier, less messy way to do this is to stick a 1/2 hose on the drain valve of the rad, drain out about a gallon of coolant, then remove the hose. nearly zero spillage as the top end will have no fluid. Then top of your reservoir again.
2014 F150 5.0L Thanks, Brad. Spot on. Took 10 minutes start to finish. no more driveway dripping over night. I noticed that my old 0-ring was also flat on the inside and am wondering whether it was made like that or just worn down after 145K miles? Anyway, thanks a ton!
Great video saved me so much time I have a 12 F150 with the 5.0 V8 and It was leaking coolant but very little at a time took it to the dealership and they told me it was one of the hoses but they were charging arm and a leg. I have a 2013 F130 5L with 60K miles and I'm finding a few oz of fluid on the floor under the truck but not often. Every once in a while. I will look for this problem. Hopefully it's not my waterpump.

noticed my 2014 5.0 126k miles has been low and getting lower its cold in NJ i filled it to the cold line for now about half a gallon it needed. imma keep eye on that oring and see if thats where its coming out from
Should I do the other gaskets right there? Or just do the one you did, mine is indeed leaking from where this shows. But I think that whole assembly has 3 gaskets that probably are getting bad too

I hope this is the culprit to my mysterious coolant loss, I have checked for leaks while running, I have checked my oil and tailpipe for moisture. Losing about half a gallon per 5000 miles. Never see any moisture or smell coolant in the morning or ever. I have cardboard under the truck, on the cross member, and have a camera on this fitting. Letting the engine cool, going to check every 30mins to see if this is the problem.
@@RaztechPowersportsJust checked that connection under the fill well and the metal clip was half way out, I pushed in and it clicked into place. Wonder if that caused an issue? Still waiting for the engine to be completely cool. No leaks detected yet.

Excellent post! This is my next job. Thanks for the effort... now, if I could just figure out the 4X4 grinding issue on the IWE hubs (I've replaced the solenoid and hubs), still makes the noise.
When does it do the grinding noise? Cause a few things can cause that. - alignment out of range, (2015 & up) if it's out of alignment to much is it will through your truck into limp mode and wont be able to get out of 2nd gear. - them selfs are going bad ( if noise is really loud) - and some noise is to be expected out of them, like on a mountain road in the corners, ( use to drive me nuts but later after inspecting is there has been no damage) s So unless it is really bad, I wouldn't worry about those.
....... slide a 3/8 inch inside diameter hose on to the radiator drain on the drain on the passenger side of the radiator at the bottom and catch all of your radiator fluid and use it again if it is clean ...... NOTE, the fluid will come out very very very slowly so be patient ...... about 2 gallons will usually come out ...... posted by Jent.
I replaced my water pump, orings and the t-connection last summer. Now I have another coolant leak on the passenger side that's soaking my starter good. Fried it once already and can't find the leak. Any ideas folks? 2013 5.0.
....... on most FORD F-150s with the V-8 that small wire horse shoe spring will need to be TOTALLY REMOVED from the fitting to get the end of the radiator hose back on the Y connector ...... on my 2012 F-150 after installing the new O ring the hose absolutely would not go back on the Y connecter with that horse shoe spring in the correct to be reinstalled position, pulled halfway back ...... with that horse shoe shaped spring totally removed the hose with the new O ring goes on to the Y connector without any problems or any effort ..... install that horse shoe shaped spring a AFTER the end of the radiator hose is up and on the Y connector ..... posted by Jent on Dec 4 of 2021.
Hey guys i have a 2009 f150 and it leaked antifreeze pretty heavy then overheated. I made it home and tightened lower radiator house and leak stopped but truck getting hot still any ideas ford family?
TuffRings.com We have all the required O rings for this fix. There is no ford part number for the O ring inside the T manifold or the connection to the tank. We have those rings and the replacement Ford rings at a cheaper price than ford for a better O ring. (Same o ring, however our cure date is within one year, something Ford can not claim)
Thanks for the great vid, I will change this on my 2011 f150 84000 miles, before it starts leaking. Btw I installed two new struts ( 4x4 ) and now there’s a brake and abs warning lights, can you help me with whats wrong. Everything works and drives fine. I disconnected the battery but the warning lights are still on. Thanks so much!
Thomas Daum there’s a chance u might have damaged an abs sensor line going to the rotor. I would shop by any auto parts shop and let them scan it. Should show the code.
Thanks so much, I was thinking the same thing because the abs line was really stretched. I didn’t unhook enough of the abs restraints so it wouldn’t be stretched. Your the best!

Brad Raziano - Yes. I used some Teflon grease. I couldn’t find my silicone grease... I hope Teflon doesn’t hurt the oring.
driggerss you’ll be completely fine. Honestly, ive used axle grease for years with no issues
Thanks it help us to fix a 2014 F150 lariat!!
Awesome 👌🏻🏁
I replaced my o rings a few times already. The one nearest the overflow is a continuous problem.
Patrick Patterson you talking about the one hooked to the overflow tank?
Check out pegusus racing. They have a kit to fix that. A lot of f150 guys use it just for that problem.
- them selfs are going bad ( if noise is really loud)
- and some noise is to be expected out of them, like on a mountain road in the corners, ( use to drive me nuts but later after inspecting is there has been no damage) s
So unless it is really bad, I wouldn't worry about those.
Thanks for this video having the same problem
No problem and glad it helped 🤙🏻
....... slide a 3/8 inch inside diameter hose on to the radiator drain on the drain on the passenger side of the radiator at the bottom and catch all of your radiator fluid and use it again if it is clean ...... NOTE, the fluid will come out very very very slowly so be patient ...... about 2 gallons will usually come out ...... posted by Jent.
Thanks man great video. Fixed my leak. You da man
Glad to hear, I actually just fixed my uncles F150 with the exact same problem a few days ago
Is there any concern about what type of grease you use on the o-ring? Or will and o-ring grease be okay?
Any non petroleum grease should be fine. Silicone grease/dielectric grease is what I would use
I replaced my water pump, orings and the t-connection last summer. Now I have another coolant leak on the passenger side that's soaking my starter good. Fried it once already and can't find the leak. Any ideas folks? 2013 5.0.
What was the part # for that ‘O’ ring? I had a hard time reading it, when you held the package up to your camera.
Part # is in the description 👍🏻
Thank you, this helped me (not a car guy) tremendously.
Heath Moore glad to hear! Thanks for watching!
....... on most FORD F-150s with the V-8 that small wire horse shoe spring will need to be TOTALLY REMOVED from the fitting to get the end of the radiator hose back on the Y connector ...... on my 2012 F-150 after installing the new O ring the hose absolutely would not go back on the Y connecter with that horse shoe spring in the correct to be reinstalled position, pulled halfway back ...... with that horse shoe shaped spring totally removed the hose with the new O ring goes on to the Y connector without any problems or any effort ..... install that horse shoe shaped spring a AFTER the end of the radiator hose is up and on the Y connector ..... posted by Jent on Dec 4 of 2021.
Thank you for this video. My 2014 started leaking there today
mine just started leaking recently too (2014 ford f150 lariat). what part number did you find to fix it? same one as in the video?
@@1825auburnfan BC32-8590F. Got mine at my local ford dealer. Was like $7ish I only have the xlt but they may be the same.
Hey guys i have a 2009 f150 and it leaked antifreeze pretty heavy then overheated. I made it home and tightened lower radiator house and leak stopped but truck getting hot still any ideas ford family?
You have an air pocket in the cooling system. Pretty typical. Just needs to be burped more than likely
I've got the same problem started last winter wish I seen this when I had to do my water pump at 125000 leaks when temps get below freezing.
Yep, that's how mine reacted, as well...
How did u diagnose it? I have 13 leaking trying hard to find it. It leaks down bell housing passenger side.
It’s leaking on the backside of the motor??
@@RaztechPowersports yeah.by firewall..hard to see
@@trugritlit6272 I haven’t seen that problem before. Clean everything really good, let it dry, and then try to find the leak
Do you not have to purge the system after this ?
It’s always a good idea to check the coolant level after the first heat cycle. It pretty much self purges
How long did it take you to do it? Going to find out today if thats the problem, if so then its going to be my weekend job lol
Fred Haynes 1 hour start to finish 👍🏻
same problem on my truck. 20 mins start to finish
Thank you so much ... this helped me 100 percent
Glad to hear and thanks for watching 🔧🏁
Nailed it!
Thanks, great video you just saved me 200.00 buck. I will continue to watch your video........
vince summers glad to hear 🤙🏻 and thanks for watching!
Brad Raziano No problem Brad can you do a video on a full tuneup on a Ford F150 2013 please
vince summers actually traded the truck in a few months ago on a new Ram 1500
You could have used a suctions pump to empty the coolant reservoir first, then you would not have that much coolant leak when pulling the hose.
My 2014 f150 has small leak but don't know if its ring or radiator itself.. i see leak when truck is off but wet spot is under battery side
Any help please
It’s very unlikely that the radiator itself is leaking. Make sure everything is dry and then try to pinpoint the issue
What grease do you use? I need to do this with my 2013 F-150 5.0L
Chris Schneider any kind grease would be fine. Just a light coat to lubricate the o-ring
