- At the international headquarters of the Brahma Kumaris in Mount Abu, Rajasthan, India, thousands of volunteers work around the clock to feed 40,000 people. And since the 1990s, the kitchen has relied on concentrated solar power to generate steam and cook most of these meals.
We visited the headquarters during a special holiday known as Baba Milan to see how the volunteers prepare these meals in such big batches.

I'm obsessed with these mega kitchens and the volunteers of India's festivals. Obsessed.
Thnx brother
they feel a need to bring hinduism into everythng ...
@@M3ganwillslay it's an ancient tradition in temples where food or prasad is considered to be akin to bread & wine offered during catholic mass . There's the connection.
In ancient times people also travelled great distances on foot to make pilgrimage surviving on alms along the way dependant on people's goodwill for pilgrims where the fare one received along the way wasn't always filling .
@@ic9771 brahmins dont allow dalits there .. fyi .. go learn about hindu varna ... dalits are not hindoos
Try getting a volunteer in America today. They just wait for a welfare check
Loving this, from Ireland. 🇮🇪🇮🇳
These temple foods are hygenic and healthy. During my college days me and friends went for a 7 day north Indian trip and solely survived eating the food from the temples enroute. Saved money and health❤
good for mental well-being
As an Indian, thank you for covering this in your feature. Would add a few things to help other viewers -
1. The food prepared is as part of 'prasad' at a Hindu religious place, and it says it follows satvik rules. That means it will be only veg, and they'll not use onion, garlic in the food. And some other restrictions too on which lentils can be used.
2. To help with the lack of garlic, a lot of asafoetida is used. It is also usually used more in Rajasthani cuisines. Helps with digestion too.
3. The other flatbread they made is called Thepla. It is like Paratha but instead of a stuffing, the masala and flavour agents are added directly to the flour. They are way thinner than a paratha. Methi (Fenugreek leaves) theplas are the most popular.
4. And lastly, rotis are not supposed to be crispy 😁. Rotis or chapatis should be soft and light.
We call asafoetida, Hingu.
Veg, not non veg
@@sunisbeautiful8695 thanks for that. Have corrected it.
May I ask why not garlic nor onions? Just genuinely curious
@@lukasvymyslicky1646 In Hinduism Garlic and Onions are considered Non veg.
Hi. Im from Mauritius but part of the Brahmakumaris. I have been there several times. Its really wonderful how so much food is cooked and so many people eat. Its a practice by the organisation and this is only due to God's grace, nothing and nothing else. Namaste.
Proud of the Sanatan culture where millions of people are fed everyday via network of temples and Gurudwaras.
Also, in addition to humans, households cook extra food / chapatis to even feed community animals such as dogs, cows and birds.
So true❤🙏
Brahma kumaris is a bogus group once you get to know it.
Did you know that Rangolis and Kolams which we today draw with crushed stone powders was actually made with rice snd lentil powders so that birds could feed on it.
I just found out tht our ancestors did that 😭 they were so considerate.

The best thing about this mega kitchen was cleanliness. Every person, every food item all of the surrounding was very clean. My Aunt used to visit Mount Abu regularly before she fell badly ill. Now doctors have asked her to stay home, otherwise she never ever had missed any opportunity to visit this occasion

How does it work being barefoot making the food? I saw in another video that people bathe before starting the food preparations. Are people expected to wash their feet as well as hands before getting started?

Don't compare everything with America and other nations. It's important to respect unique culture of each nation. That's how others live. Respecting self is respecting others. And I am sure many other nations have such kitchens.
Abrahamic religions don't believe in poor or hungry feeding. Only the Sanatanis do this kind of narayan sewa. Show me one example of a mosque or a church feeding the poor or anybody for that matter!! Though Sikhs also feed all in langars. I have not come across Buddhists, Jain's also hosting langars or poor feeding.
@@thatspp4503 I don’t know about other religious organizations (Church or Mosque) but there certainly are food banks, homeless shelters, soup kitchens that serve the needy and the hungry. I have volunteered, so I know!
@@SamA-jw1pb show me example of a religious institution feeding the poor. All the ones stated by you above are either Govt or private funded by philanthropists. In India Hindu temples feed the maximum number of people.
@@thatspp4503 In Islam, one of the five pillars is Zakat, which is giving a percentage of savings and financial assets not used in everyday needs (2.5%). They are almost always collected in local mosques and distirbuted to charitable causes, mainly the poor. During Ramadan Muslims also fast to rememeber the poor and they are also obliged to give Sadaqat al-Fitr at the end. You can look up the cost of it if you would like, but it is calculated on a food basis. I am not sure about other Abrahamic religions but easing the lives of those less wealthy than you is one of core principles in Islam.

Looks like food insider cracked the recipe for viewership - Indian food videos!
Asafoetida which is seen used so extensively in Indian food is imported from Iran ( barely consumed there ) , its a gum from the root of a medicinal plant having extensive health benefits ( been used for ages ) , it has a special taste very widely used in South India .
Imported mostly from Afghanistan.
it is also used in north & central india, known as heeng in hindi
