I have a lot of respect for the incredible operation that Singapore Airlines has put in place to serve up to 50,000 in-flight meals every day. It's amazing to see how they can prepare so many delicious meals with such precision and consistency. One of the most impressive things about their operation is how they are able to customize the meals for passengers depending on their destination, cabin class, and even personal preferences. It's clear that they put a lot of thought and care into their menu development process, which can take up to a year to create just one dish. I also appreciate the attention to detail and food safety protocols that the chefs follow. The air shower to remove contaminants, the cooking process that leaves the food partially cooked to ensure it doesn't overcook in the air, and the use of temperature probes to ensure that the food reaches the right temperature all show the level of care they take in making sure their passengers are served safe and delicious meals. Overall, I'm impressed with the amount of effort and resources that Singapore Airlines and their catering partner, SATS, put into their in-flight meal operation. It's no wonder why they have such a good reputation for their food on board!
@@anacc3257 Its a big contrast to if you travel to Singapore by coach instead of by air though, with many coaches terminating @ the decrepit Golden Mile Complex & Tower until recently (where the false ceiling are yellowed with oxidation & collapsed over the taxi stand, & the toilets are choked). I understand that those properties have ownership split across multiple landlords who can't agree to fork out more money periodically to renovate the properties to keep with the times. The landlords are also more self-interested & less likely, compared to larger landlords, to reject tenants associated with vice e.g. nightclubs, karaoke bars. Meanwhile if you travel by rail you end up @ Woodlands Train Checkpoint, which is even further from downtown than Changi Airport. To continue your journey to downtown you have to catch a connecting bus, which I heard sometimes is cancelled if the Checkpoint gets congested

What about you cannot catch up with the line tempo? Trivia: SATS stands for Singapore Airport Terminal Services, & I believe they also have a monopoly over baggage handling @ Changi Airport (which previously had Swissport too but they gave up after not managing to turn a profit). SATS has also diversified to provide food catering outside airports too e.g. MICE, military camps' cookhouses/canteens
That is unbelievable. Wow. What a production. That is organization at it's best. First Class all the way around. Truly amazing how every single detail is handled to perfection. I hope some day I can fly on that airline. Wow. What an operation.
I never have much thought as to where my airplane meals came from, this is certainly a cool eye opener. It makes you wonder how much of this goes on around the world is very single day, not just for airlines!
ARE they all like this though? Or is Singapore Airlines just one of the few that make more effort except for people paying tens of thousands for first and business class tickets? Pretty sure most of the regular "economy" flights I've been on had food that was just thrown together by machines and void of all flavor.
I had the best meal experience with Singapore Airlines last February. I took Singapore Airlines from Jakarta-Singapore-Seoul and Seoul-Singapore-Jakarta and I was always excited every time they served the meals because it was sooo good, especially their sausage and mashed potato.
I used to work as a meal assembly supervisor for Cathay Pacific Catering Services in Hong Kong. I can tell you from experience, this line of work is quite complex. There's a lot of things happening all at the same time with many rules to follow and continuous training. I'm grateful for that experience since it taught me a lot about food safety, deadlines and factory safety. Keep up the great work SATS team!

Ikr. As a Singaporean, I do feel offended given that we can articulate English absolutely fine even if we have an accent to get pass. The West needs to stop generalising all Asians as not being fluent enough in English to be understood. We have Westerners living among us and I'm pretty sure they've never had issues understanding Singaporeans in conversations UNLESS there's heavy usage of Singlish involved.

I don't think the salt situation is fixed for every flight yet. But, I do remember from another video that the salt content is VERY high on in flight meals, so if you have a heart condition it's even more important to request no salt meals.
I just got off of a plane, British Airways to be exact and I was literally just thinking about how this was all done. Watching this shows how much work is put into it all... and by actual people!! 😊👍🏾 Kuddos to all of them!! P.s. The meals on my flights were REALLY YUMMY!! 😋
I always prioritize flying with Singapore Airlines if I can, purely for the food! I would have loved to see them preparing the special meals in this video too :)
Been flying for 60 yrs. & have never turned up my nose at an in-flight meal. Instead, I'm generally astonished at what goes into creating a half-decent meal under less-than-ideal conditions. A few times, the itinerary might mean skipping several meals. That's when hugs & kisses go to any airline that kindly provides an EXTRA meal on the last leg. Sometimes it's announced that a second serving is available. Other times, I have politely asked when the cabin lights go down.
I am waiting for the D DAY when crew members tell everyone there is no food to serve or water on a 30 hour plus flight...Imagine the reaction...Hunger Games??
I would have loved to see how they also include meals with dietary restrictions/allergies. Are those cooked in an individual small patch? Is there a different allergy specific room
The place I used to work separates Kosher, Halal, Non-Halal zones. For allergy we have separated section (but not a dedicated room) for cooking and assembling them. Some products like gluten free/egg free breads were outsourced and came prepackaged.

how does it work when a flight is significantly delayed or completely cancelled or rerouted? Also how does it work for planes leaving from not their home airport, does this facility exist in every city and for every airline or do they load up meals for multiple flights on a single plane at the beginning of the day that will last all of the flights for that day?
I used to work in airline catering for some time. Normally after foods were cooked they need to be cooled down rapidly in blast chiller before we assembled them. After we finished assembled and put them in carts, we put the carts in walk-in cold room waiting for the trucks to pick them up to airplanes. If the flight is severely delayed (i.e. over 24hrs) or cancelled, people who manage logistic might swap those foods for other flight in line so we dont need to discard them.
Normally there are one or more airline catering facilities around the major airports. One catering company can produce meals for many different airlines. For example my company based in Bangkok and we produced foods for Emirates, Qatar, Swiss, Hongkong, Japan and local airlines. We do load meals for multiple flights on single airplane if it is a short flight and/or the destination city does not have airline catering kitchen to load new meals on the way back.

I’ve just flown with Singapore Airlines (Bali to London) and let me you: they are FABULOUS.
The loveliest of staff, comfy Economy seats, great entertainment and food.
I love them!!
I used to make omelettes for a major airline by hand. We didn't have the automated egg dispenser or the turntable. We used a ladle from a bucket of egg yoke and 10 gas tops. I looked after 5 while someone else was cooking on the other five. Started at 4am to ensure they were ready for the breakfast flights.
This will definitely make me appreciate in-flight meals more. Even the most basic airline class meals.
Why? Don't you just hate how industrialised and impersonal the whole process is?
@@scienceevolves4417 i mean, if you want a personally made and handcrafted meal then all you need to do is get yourself a private jet and a private chef to go alog with it. This? You can order something separately if you are fainting from hunger.
I usually use low cost flights and I don't pretend that a plane is a restaurant. It's an air bus that takes me to my destination!
I have to say, I did not expect the food to look so perfect in bulk. That looks pretty good to me. 👍

I took Singapore Air (economy) from Seattle Singapore back in October. The food and overall experience was incredible compared to anything I've had on domestic flights in the US. Seeing this makes a lot of sense why that is.

We don't fly Singapore often, but when we do, it's always a treat. The cabin crew members are really excellent.

The landlords are also more self-interested & less likely, compared to larger landlords, to reject tenants associated with vice e.g. nightclubs, karaoke bars. how does it work when a flight is significantly delayed or completely cancelled or rerouted? Also how does it work for planes leaving from not their home airport, does this facility exist in every city and for every airline or do they load up meals for multiple flights on a single plane at the beginning of the day that will last all of the flights for that day?
would love to hear answers to these questions. they’re really good! i didn’t even think of this.
