Deutsche Grammophon releases Jóhann Jóhannsson's otherworldly soundtrack for Denis Villeneuve's alien-invasion feature film "Arrival". It is his third original film score for director Denis Villeneuve and his second release on the yellow label.

While Jóhannsson’s time was short, his genius music will forever be remembered
RIP Jóhann Jóhannsson
the track called "Arrival" from the score might be the most minimalistic and intelligent piece of music i have ever listened to. Italso catched this magical moment in just a few notes. I think this track, created from out of 10 seconds of audio gave me a feeling i've never felt before. And this is what sets this perfect mood for an arrival of an extraterrestrial visitor for me. sorry for my english. i just had to share this thought.

Crazy to me that this couldn't even be nominated for "best soundtrack" at the Oscars.

I'm still waiting for more music by the Master, I can't believe He's already gone. So young, and full of new music for all of us.
He has left us and given his biggest gift. A soundtrack so magical it married the movie The Arrival to perfection. In doing so, Johann has furthered the movie's suspense and drama.
Rest in peace Jóhann.
Shame this young man is not with us anymore. Arrival is one of my favourite soundtracks... so evocative. Just imagine what Jóhann would come up with if he was still alive.

It is an amazing soundtrack. The digitally altered vocals are simply amazing.
And isn't that Moog synthesizer in the background at 1:58? Happy to see that Johann is using analog synthesizers!
So amazing! It also reminds me of the AKIRA (1988) Soundtrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi...which, of course is a big compliment!
If this gets into oscar, it WILL win. No doubts.
It's such MASTERPIECE, no other movies could match it.

I cannot deny that. Still my favorite tracks is "The Beast" from Sicario.
Sicario was his best soundtrack yet IMO. But i hope this wins an oscar because he and Denis deserve it badly.
Indeed. I think this has a real chance of winning. Denis probably won't win directing, because the golden boy Chazelle is there, but if he doesn't get nominated, it's as wrong as a Trump presidency
Disqualified (variety.com/2016/film/news/oscars-academy-disqualifies-arrival-manchester-by-the-sea-silence-1201941479/) because Academy thought voters might be confused by Max Richter's "On The Nature Of Daylight". A shame. Cause both are great.
