The best thing to clean the outside, including the sticky shit, is Mr. Muscle window cleaner (Green stuff) with a microfibre cloth. I worked in a computer / phone repair shop for years. Used it on everything, brilliant stuff!
This reminds me of taking apart my old iPod to put in a new battery and 1 terabyte of storage... It was a little frustrating but so fun and rewarding. I still use it today.
Brother Steve! As I've said many a time; Being cheap doesn't deserve its bad reputation, it has gotten over the decades of hate, it has received. In many situations, it's better for your mental, physical, and emotional health than splurging a few too many times, on things we didn't really need, save & go to the Pub 😁
Why did you stick the double sided adhesive over the flex cable? 🙈 It‘s a no go 😢 On the next battery replacement the flex cable could be ripped when removing the battery.
Careful putting that much IPA on a phone screen, I have had IPA leak into the phone screen and get between the diffusion layers of the back light. Even after it had dried out when displaying white you could see a dark cloud/stain.
@@HL09 No issue with using a cloth damp with IPA to wipe your phone screen down but if its pooling on the surface there is a chance it can leak into the phone either via the ear piece speaker or microphones.
I may just be a fellow cheapskate. My Macbook (late 2013) has finally bitten the dust after outlasting three replacement batteries and two replacement chargers. Not quite Trigger's Macbook, but it did get a medal from the mayor.
I am watching the video on my OnePlus 5T. About 2 Years ago i replaced the battery. Its 6 years old and still working fine except dash charging which randomly stops.
@@Leonvolt28 I already tried a friends cable and charger. Same issue persists. Either i damaged something while replacing the battery or the phone does not really like the new battery. The battery percentage is off at lower levels (sometimes the phone turned off while displaying 12% left) which might be a hint towards the latter option. I still use the phone every day and am fine with it i just avoid dash charging.
You REALLY should heat the phone before trying to get the back off. I still miss my OnePlus 7 Pro with the fancy popup camera. 3:58 I use Zeiss lens wipes for that, they're great for cleaning lenses, glasses, phones, etc, I presume you used a LOCA protector? 5:49 Those usually go away themselves after a day, you shouldn't lift it back off. What custom rom you gonna install since the OP5 is no longer supported?
Not much of a cheapskate, Steve; I looked up the OnePlus 5T, and I discovered that they're selling in Canada for _twice_ the price of a brand new iPhone 15!!!! I suspect that's because people are buying them to send to family in India.
I was cringing while watching you get that screen open, It would have been a lot easier if you had put some heat around the edges and softened up the glue, I’m not teaching you how to suck eggs by the way I speak from experience……….of cracking loads of screens doing exactly the same thing 😂 luckily I was replacing them anyway so it didn’t matter.
Same here. After previously watching lots of phone repairs by Hugh Jeffreys I was cringing hard when I didn't see a hotplate appear before the prying. I imagine this phone doesn't use half the glue as an iPhone or Samsung phone, but still...
Fresh new old you mean... All batteries you buy have almost the same manufacturer date as the phone has. That is why it is useless to change the battery in your old phone. I did it in my S9+ and the battery was from 2019 and my "new" battery was from 2020. After charging the phone the battery lasted 5 minutes longer than the old battery. And yes, it was a Samsung original battery i installed.
Don't buy used batteries, buy high quality aftermarket from a trusted retailer. I've tried a few used batteries before and all of them were dead on arrival. The aftermarket ones work fine just be careful where you buy it from, lots of low quality batteries on the market, sometimes it's your only choice though.
The Oneplus 5T was my phone for so long until it completely died. It's an awesome device. I made the mistake of changing to Xiaomi and never again. My next phone will be a OnePlus for sure.
Why did you regret buying a Xiaomi phone? Because of software? If thats the case I would't buy a OnePlus phone in the future because OxygenOS is basically Color OS now.
@@thefunkdroid2777 I completely agree. You could flash a different rom on your Xiaomi phone if it has a Snapdragon soc. This is what I did on my Poco F3. It now has stock Android without unnecessary junk.I would recommend Pixel OS or Evolution X.

Ste. Have you ever needed to use a heat gun to get into the screen? I just cant get the screen off with you methods on this video

Nice job
Watching way too many of your videos has taught me to solder and repair electronics. Thanks from Chicago !!!
I miss these back panel fingerprint scanners. They were the best
Yes, especially if you went for a swim, and needed to use the phone. Good luck opening the phone with "soft" fingers.
Much appreciated by a fellow cheapskate! Cheapskates of the world unite!
Cheapskates assemble! Or should that be disassemble...🤔
Do it for the planet!

Sweet background music during the disassemble 😎
Yeah, it was smoooooth
Love this dudes videos.....
Nice to see you work on new things. Love your channel my friend. Keep up the great work.
LOVED the OnePlus 5T! Too bad it doesn't work on my network anymore....
Hope dave likes his new phone
Good job ol' boy!!!

I wonder if you need glue at all? I think the battery doesn't move at all in there
Great job as usual
Hi, can I ask where you buy the new replacement battery from?
Thanks in advance :)

that's a nonissue with oleds
Did you glue the screen?!
StUpiD PhOnE!
Hi I watch your vids all the time you make excellent content. Was wondering if you could do phone screen replacement tutorial

I had to get a new phone when my sim card slot was destroyed. So I found some free software and use it now as a remote webcam.

I'm a cheapskate as well. I prefer to repair than replace, especially if it is the "cheaper" option, why not?, got to be better than binning it.
"This is harder than it looks!" - The guy not using hot air to soften the glue, probably....
It uses clips. The opening tool included in battery replacement kits uses a suction cup.
Or IPA
You don’t need hot air.
Heat is your friend!!
If you are referring to separating the phone...that particular phone is clipped together, not glued/taped
Niiiceeee
Would have helped if you heated screen first
Why not heat up the glue around the screen before you try to remove it?
Niiiiice
Way easier than replacing the battery on an iPhone.
They really don't want you changing the battery
Now unlock the bootloader and install a custom rom on it.
That's what she said?

Consider a heat gun next time to melt the adhesive and then pry the phone
