Is It as Good as You Think It Is?? || Ibanez FR800 Demo/Review
Meet John, one of the editors helping me stick with a (hopefully) proper release schedule for the first time 😂. Serious question, though: what the heck is up with this Tiger King thing?
I pared a barenuckles p90 sized humbucker with a dimarzio paf in my telecaster project, black chrome and its pretty awesome
Watched two episodes of it last night def one of the weirdest docu series I have ever seen. All of those people are insane.
Agufish haven’t watched it yet but the clips and memes people are sharing give me Reno 911 vibes
simon zmirli
the new editing makes the video unwatchable change it back pls
Dude! That demo track was so F@#$ing HEAVY!!
When you wanna find specific a ibanez at the namm show
“Is there anyone here who read’s ibanez”
Gandalf: Do you see anything? Frodo: There are markings. It's some form of elvish, I can't read it.
Gandalf: There are few who can, the language is that of Ibanez.
🤣🤣🤣🤣
In defense the name has a purpose, I like all guitars but I also dont need a firebird or a dinky
Actually its pretty simple. S = Sabre RG = Roadster Guitar the A after the name letters = Archtop etc etc But perhaps we can ask Ibanez to bring out a glossary or such ;)
Steve Luth Letters are easy enough to work out. No idea about the numbers.
You can tell he has a new editor lol
I love you papa agufish
Coward, call him Daddy Agufish or PapAgufish
Damn! That was one of your better demo tracks by far! Badass!
This same guitar on a 27" scale option would be soooo cool
You guys ever give the demo track an extra play before getting the review? Because goddamn, those were some brutal riffs! 👏🔥😤
i see new camera angles... love it
If you're in the market for this style guitar (as I am), I would personally opt to spend an extra $100 and get a Schecter pt sls evil twin. This Ibanez looks like a very nice guitar but for just a hundred bucks more the Schecter gives you so much more for your money. First you get the fishman fluence modern pickup set. This is obviously a matter of taste and the bare knuckles here definitely sound great but the Fishman's seem to be what everyone thinks is the bomb right now and I think they would be a bit more versatile overall. You also get stainless steel frets (a giant step up IMO), a beautiful neck through design with a seven piece neck and swamp Ash body, a genuine hipshot bridge, a 12-16 inch compound radius neck which to me is the perfect marriage between today's ultra flat necks and the comfortable chording that the old style necks offered. It also has spoke wheel style truss rod adjustment, which is so much easier to access.
The neck isn't quite as thin as a wizard but very close and to me it feels just right and also includes a volute.
There's also a binding around the entire body, neck and head stock that really sets off the look. It's maybe a little more flashy overall than the guitar featured here but you still get the same flat black aesthetic from the front as opposed to some of the crazy "spalted/burst" type finishes that have been so popular in recent years. Personally I'm a few huge fan of a more natural looking back and sides where you can see the wood grain as opposed to the same solid color paint covering the entire body. Obviously it's not something the audience is going to see most of the time but to me it really makes me appreciate the beauty of the instrument more and just makes me want to pick it up.
I am very close to pulling the trigger on one of these guitars which is why I'm so up on its specs. Based on the thumbnail I watched this video thinking that this might be a viable alternative and I'm sure I could be happy with it as well. However with the extra features that the Schecter offers I know which one I'm going to choose. Obviously this is all a matter of personal preference and you might make a different choice than me but hopefully anyone who's interested in this style guitar will find this information helpful.
Same here. Was thinking about getting an fr800, but the evil twin seems to be so much better. As soon as thomann is getting them back in stock i will pull the trigger. but i'm not sure yet whether it will be pt or c1.
@@mathias_411 Yes I'm torn between the PT and the C1 as well. I actually like the look of the C1 better but the thing that has me leaning toward the PT is the fact that it has a forearm Contour. I don't particularly find archtops all that comfortable to play.
@@HeavyInstinct I haven't even thought of that yet. It's a shame that you can't go to any shop to test the guitars at the moment. Then you would have the direct comparison. But maybe it's time to treat yourself to a t-style guitar. :)
My Ibanez BTB1806 bass has Gotohs and I love them
Love the improvement on the editing side 👍
dat explorer in the back tho 👀
That's what I'm waiting to see. Been eyeing it on Thomman!
The demo track somewhat reminded me of Nero Forte by Slipknot
so i'm not the only one then!!
I can tell you had fun with those riffs 😎
Can anyone else see Jim root playing one of these??!!?
Edit: or Joe duplantier
Luca Cox mick used to use an RG back in the day. He had HATE on an ibanez headstock long before he had sig models. I can’t picture jim playing anything but a fender
Hugh tube true, it just has a very Jim vibe
I really want this one.
I bought this from a dealer recommended by Ibanez but unfortunately my guitar came with a 6 inch scratch and a weird Smudge 😔
I’ve returned it and got a new one let’s see how this one turns out to be 🤞
HB EX-84 modern aw for review pls :D
It looks like a slide show with those cuts
Nothing says "value" like a guitar that costs a grand.
Value does not mean cheap. Value means, well, value. The specs/performance/whatever you get for the amount of money you pay. That is value. This guitar has Bareknuckle pickups in it, which cost 300 to 400 bucks alone (without the cost of having them installed). 1000 bucks is a great value for this guitar. I'd like it more, if it cost like 900 or 800 bucks. But 1000 bucks is still fine.
I bought a custom kiesel vader with a zebrawood fretboard for $900. Yes the price might be high but the guitar is valued around $1800, making it a high value guitar at the price
Pickup swapping is the best way to improve a guitar, but you need to choose the right ones. And they're not magical. The guitar has to have a decent sound to begin with.
silhouette looks like one of matt bellamy's guitars
He's talking about how great the Gotoh locking tuners are and then, while mentioning the nut, says he "didn't have to retune THAT often during the tracking of the demo." So he has "high-quality" locking tuners and the guitar won't stay in tune for the recording of a two minute track? As a professional musician for over 30 years that's a huge red flag to me. Stay safe everyone.
Did you know that Hunter doesn’t like pointy guitars?
Useless Philipness *reading rainbow tune echoes in distance*
“value guitar” “Price: $1099”
My thoughts exactly!!
It has barenuckles. The pickups alone are like $400 that is why he says that.
i mean value is value. if you get a car with the same specs and bulit quality of a butgatti veyron for 1 mil its still value since the bugatti would be like 2.5 mil. Your paying less than half of whats expected
@@AbbadonTMLOLCOD y'oure*
@@prepecenihleb1679 how do you spell irony?
Tell John that he's doing a great job! I don't know how to explain it but he is doing something completely different and it works perfectly!
budget....costs more than my car.................................
Maybe that says more about your car then the guitar ;)
Think about it to the pickups alone are like 315. Bucks.
Value, not budget. Value means highend specs for as little money as possible. Its the 800-1500 range
@@InfamouslyCantankerous yeah for retail, Ibanez probably got those for 150 USD for a set. Could be lower.
To me, I see: Budget-$100-$500
Mid range- $550-$1,200
High mid- $1,250-$1,800
High-$1,850+ Btw, I only have one guitar (EC-1000P) and It’s great, but I do have my eye on a High Mid (Schecter Banshee Mach-6)
This is what I imagine a solar t type would like all the way down to the contours on the cutaway gotta say I dig it. Maybe enough to buy another Ibanez🤔
Damn, those slick ass transitions. Who's your editor or do you do this yourself Hunter?
John edited this one! He also does Mary Spender and Bea’s videos. Patreon dollars going to good use so I can focus on getting content out on a more regular basis lol
Why do you hate IBANEZ? They provide better value than LTDs, Charvel etc
he does not like flat fingerboards and thin necks.
Hard disagree on that one
Your opening statements about Ibanez and pointy horns and flat fingerboards despite playing metal.....I used to agree, 100%. Then stopped caring about all that, all it comes down to is how it plays and how it sounds. Ibanez makes fantastic guitars. EDIT: I've always loved flat radius fretboards.
Yep. I used to care about how guitars look - being much more of a fan of 'classic' instruments. Then I realized I was able to play significantly better on most of those 'ugly' (or, more often than not, 'cheap knockoffs') than I was on any Gibson or Fender I've ever played, much less owned. When I discovered I was more comfortable on a $200 badly set-up guitar at a pawn shop than I was with the $3000 instrument I'd been playing for ten years, both figuratively and in a very literal 'my wrist hurts less now' sense, my priorities changed pretty quickly.
1100$ a budget guitar? L 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Not a fan of the produced track portion of the vid's.
IMO i just can't say anything about the tone or sustain or overall sounds of the guitar when it has been manipulated to that extent. UA-cam forces huge manipulation inherently but i feel better with a guitar, some pedals, and an amp.... leave out the computer whenever possible. Room tones basically. I would rather listen to your personal comments... and those kinda need to be non-sponsored as well.... otherwise it is just a commercial i am watching. Still a subber and watcher because i love gear, so i sub them all.
Lol ok are you offering to pay my rent instead then?
I agree. Sucks trying to get an idea of what something sounds like when everyone demos it through a program with a fucking drum track. Its bad enough i have to hear it through my speakers and not in person, then every buffoon buries the sound in their tracks. No bullshit every guitar pickup demo on yt sounds the same. Maybe thats the point i guess? "These pickups guaranteed to make you not stand out no matter what amps or pedals youre using cause its going through a program anyways!"
You had me at Bareknuckles!
Man, hating Ibanez model names is a such a ridiculous meme. If I live to be 1000 years old, I'll still never understand why "Fender American Ultra Stratocaster HSS" or "Gibson 60th Anniversary 1960 Les Paul Standard" are considered less obtuse than "Ibanez RG2550E" or whatever.
Haha on point
because weird letters numbers japanese robot bad
I guess it's because it's easier for people to actually read / pronounce the name of a Gibson or Fender model, and people mistake that for the same thing as being less confusing. I'd say something alphanumeric, hard to read out loud at a glance, but unambiguous is way better than being like Gibson where like 85% of the SKUs people give a shit about have fan-made nicknames because multiple completely different models that can differ in price by like $15,000 and in release date by up to 30 years not only often have the exact same name but can have the exact same serial number.
Especially since a lot of those Ibanez names mean something. RG is Roadstar guitar, just like how the Gibson SG is the solid body guitar.
They should really start making other models beside the RG in japan too
1. The price of BK p/ups in the UK includes 20% VAT (the UK equivalent of sales tax). VAT is not payable on exported goods. And yes, BK p/ups are awesome, especially the Blackhawks.
2. Ibanez slim neck profiles might be comfortable and fast if you've got small hands. I've got big hands and those slim necks cramp up my left hand. Give me a 50's profile neck any day.
Nice review, Hunter. Loving your work!
For future reference, $1100 is a “value guitar”
new editing looks great!
Love the EX 84 in the background. When is the review coming?
😢😢
Pass. Don't know what it is. Just isn't sitting right with me for some reason.
I know some really love Bare Knuckles but cant see how some think they're a level above Dimarzios or Duncans. I have a set of Aftermaths in my Mayones and I dont vibe with them at all. The Juggernauts in my Aristides are getting yanked for an Duncan Alpha Omega set as well. The Nailbombs and Blackhawks are nice but hated the Aftermaths, Holy Diver bridge, and the Warpigs.
Nobody thinks they're better than anything from Seymour Duncan, but hating on Di Marzio pickups (for absolutely no reason) is the new trend, so... yeah.
I’ll buy those BKP from you.
@@brandonbock4763 my juggs were sold a while ago. The Aftermaths just got sold.
$1000+ and it still has a plastic nut and not TUSQ, lol. At least it has locking tuners unlike some slightly cheaper models should....
pls go back to the old style of editing it's just way to flashy ...
Basically a Telecaster, but with a flatter board radius and super hot pickups.
Cort has basically the same guitar, but for a cheaper price.
They are basically copying Matthew Bellamy's and Rabea Massad's guitars.
I love the Aftermaths in my '09 RG420EG (even more budget/value) for more than 10 years now. The best pickups for wizard necked guitars:) Powerful, clean, precise, and passive,...
hey man when is the Harley Benton EET FUK guitar review coming? Ive been dying to hear it ever since the unboxing video
Hunters favorite Ibanez also happens to be a single cut.
Coincidence? I don't think so
Scarf joints also makes the break angle of the headstock stronger, as you have continuous grain going instead of what you see on a Gibson (unless it's quartersawn, then it's strong no matter what.)
Is this Ibanez’s answer to LTD’s Black Metal series?
Some say he once made all the kegs explode at a frat party when asked to chug. And his paramours have to be curvy to keep damaging resonance from building up. All we know is, he's called The Stig!
Loll I fucking love these
We really need to personalize these to you, Hunter. "The Stig" is copyrighted. Any ideas? I'll grant you, I'm pulling the metaphors off the individual videos so we're in no trouble there. I also need to have this conversation with Patrick Hunter for his demos. But he's all about the bass (no trouble.)
lol Trey Xavier from Gear Gods calls me "The Goo Fish"
Hopefully you’re staying safe brother. Be well. And entertaining as always.
Push/pull coil taps do not hold up at all. I had a Merrow KM6 MKII and after replacing it twice I replaced it with a mini toggle. Much better.
Damn, how much did you use it lol
@@agufish all the time. Though the first one shorted out within the first 2 weeks of me getting the guitar.
Holy fuck, what a video... the editing here is fucking insane, your friend John is fucking talented. This is my new favorite video from you Hunter!
The FR shape was also available in last year's lineup though, they did not bring it back for 2020. There were 2 iron label FR models, a 6 and 7 string. Great guitars, I have the 6 string!
And by the way, I understand why you dislike the Ibanez model names, but why is it such a problem? If you like the guitar, who cares what it is called? Does not seem like such a big deal to me.
Agufish, what do you think of the new Charvel Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 2 24 HH 2PT CM ASH model? I personally think it's amazing, and it seems to fit the look you prefer. All the shred specs with a modern Tele look.
Wait, RG's are for metal.....

GREAT DECISION TO HIRE AN EDITOR HUNTER! As a video editor and musician myself i know it gets hard to get creative on a shot sometimes. Now you can focus on writing even meaner riffs and reviewing guitars. I know you said AMP vids don't get as much love as guitar vid but we need value amps as well! Bang for the buck! What good is a guitar when you have an amp that sucks! my two cents but you should definitely cover guitar amps! CHEERS MATE!
so, according to 1:32 where you say the MSRP is $1000, you think this is a "value" guitar? I legit thought it looked like about 250 bucks worth of geet, and you put the pickups in.. Ibanez are trying to MILK people with this. disgraceful.
4:50 it looks like a Piranhafish, Agufish.
Good stuff... but lets be honest- $1100 is NOT a 'value guitar, now is it? For that kind of money, from that manufacturer, it should be killer out of the box.
I really don’t like Ibanez guitars (except for my vbt700), but this guitar is no bullshit and is meant to get down to business. No over the top fancy shit, just business. I can’t hate a guitar that gets the job done well.
maybe...idk...they probably are built well....but i mean your shit out front and what input like it is...lol. we're fighting everything bad agian...bad gain1/2 pots sitting with PB in it lol....blowing bridge stuff and wall blowing fuses lol...i'm telling ya it is what it is lol.
Value for money? Companies from the USA have been charging the rest world extra for years! Payback is a bitch 😁
SEAFOAM GREEN RGA!!!!!!!!!!!11!!11!!!1!!!!!!!! This FR just fucking slays, what a cool guitar!
The Ibanez names are....
Hard to keep in mind?
Seriously, know your audience - over a grand for a guitar does not constitute a 'value' guitar, thats really ridiculous.
Hey agufish, there are not many channels that are dedicated to teaching production for rock and metal. Please suggest some if you know or please make some production techniques videos for logic. Thanks.
I have to say this is definitely one of my favorite guitar bodies. I want one with a warmoth maple telecaster neck with a wizard profile, 12-16” radius, and graphtech locking tuners, a pair of 57/66tw emg pickups, a kahler bridge, with a relic seafoam over 3tone sunburst finish and all gold hardware. Would basically be the perfect guitar. I also want a pickguard.
That's a sweet looking axe. Love the black inlays. I saw they have a 7 string version. Too bad they don't have an 8 string version, if so I'd have to be saving money to get one.
I associate FR with Floyd Rose. They should have called it the Ibanez NT ( no trem)
These are nice; thanks for sharing. I still remember the older prestige fr from 2006/7. They still had pickguards, but the pickups sucked. Overall, the fr reminds me of the Yamaha Pacifica 1221ms. I like that the T style is becoming more mainstream, therefore more options to choose from. I think I will still go for a Charvel So Cal style 2; more versatile and more conventional t style look. Plus, I was very happy with the last batch of DK 24 2 pt from summer NAMM.
Ibanez lost me when they became as expensive as Fenders or Gibsons. Nothing they make appeals to me.
Value guitar at $1099??
Blech. Black font on a black headstock. That's like putting on cologne and not showering.
I dont think I'd consider 1k budget but yeah it's cool
Who said budget?
@@agufish ooo nevermind rewatched and you never used the word budget. Guess my brain just associates value with budget when they arnt the same thing
Hi Agusfish! What about the weight? I not found any info in the internet :(.
At $1k or a little less there is a crowded market and tossing in a set of BKP is a great way to sell a guitar that would otherwise barely turn most heads.
glad your are enjoying some Ibanez.
That guitar is a tele copy by fender and I like the ibenez better and I love ur new camera motions if I said it right
Great video as always! This guitar is absolutely awesome looking. Very tempted to put a bare Knuckle warpig in one of my guitars
I don't know how to describe the tone but it sounds "hollow"?
Why do I always only see the aftermaths on production guitars and nothing else
I’m going to put Aftermath in a 250 Harley Benton lmao
Value guitar? WTF... This thing is $1,099!
god damn right loving the juggernauts in my fuckin harlo bento
A $1000+ guitar with a scarf joint? :(
I want one of these so bad. I'm gonna sell my AZ for half price to get one
can someone tell him that a $1000 or more guitar is not a value guitar
The fret-board looks as dry as a popcorn fart!? 🎶🎸
finally you see the light
The only thing that makes this less appealing to me is the fretboard and inlays.
Jesus fuck, i need this with a floyd and a 2nd one that's a 7 string
Bare knuckles sound mean, only think i dont dig is those black inlays
lmao at "Value Guitar". That thing is more than 1000 euros. I can buy a new Prestige made in Japan for less than that. lol.
link me?
That guitar is crying out for an ebony fingerboard
The bare knuckles are total overrated at this point, Jackson sells a 400$ guitar with fish man fluence moderns and a Floyd Rose, this guitar really is nothing special
lol not saying I don't necessarily believe you but I gotta throw a red challenge flag out on that. Can you link me to the Jackson that sells for $400 new with Fishman Fluence Moderns please?
My first guitar ever was a cheap Ibanez..
So I don't comment much but I feel I have some fair criticism here. Now John is a great editor, I've seen his work on Rabea Massaad's videos as well. However in my opinion on this video at least the editing is a bit too aggressive and is a bit of an eyesore. Some fancy editing on the demo track bit is fine but on the informative part of the video the black swipe transitions are unfitting and those color flares and the blurriness on the edges are in my opinion completely unnecessary and a bit annoying to be honest. I'm not giving "high praise" here, just want to in the most friendly manner point out things that in my opinion are not that good. The video otherwise is the good quality stuff I've come to expect from you, Hunter but I think it would be nicer if the editing could be a bit toned down from this. Cheers!
PS. I don't now much about editing so I don't know all the proper lingo in editing so apologies for that if I used wrong words.
Thanks for the constructive criticism man. The plan was to kind of just let John do his thing here and see what y’all thought about it, and make changes from there. Gotten a lot of feedback to make the next one even better :)
