Some russian troll commented on the Sotchi games opening being the best. I just laughed and told him to see a few before he opens his mouth again. Sydney put on a show, a real show. China put on a show for the world. Tokyo in absence of people put on a show. Athens put on one heck of a show. Even most of the time boring UK put on a show for once. Russia had 2 people talking in russian and barely any other landuage for the first 30 minutes. Then you got some girl chasing a kite. That was pretty much it.
Is it just me or does anyone else think that entire Aboriginal sequence was one of the most impressive and best known public displays of Aboriginal culture, song and dance? Absolutely mesmerising to watch!
Absolutely, and as indigenous person at the Sydney Opening (and who carried the Olympic Torch) I cant understate the impact it had on Australia. There was a documentary on the creation of the segment and its authenticity and detail was incredible.
Fun fact: At 2:05:06 you see Crown Prince Frederik of Denmark (on the left) waving to the Danish Olympic Team. Days after the opening ceremony he met his future wife Mary at a pub in Sydney
Mary Donaldson from Tasmania. Prince Frederik's first cousin once removed Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden met his future wife Silvia Sommerlath at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich.
I read a great account of the Diggers on the Western Front being assigned to a Guard of Honor for Field Marshall Haig entering a French town. They dutifully stood there, gave three cheers and remained at attention. Following behind was a French farmer struggling along with a mule and cart coming into drop produce into the town, the Diggers erupted in cheers for him and helped him along like it was the King!
3:17:03 - Including the East Timor athletes, competing as 'Independent Olympic Athletes' because they didn't have a national Olympic committee yet. This mattered to Australians, as Australia had led the International Force in East Timor (INTERFET) since the previous year, overseeing the transition to independence. The people of East Timor had suffered terribly under Indonesian rule and at the hands of Indonesian backed militias.
2024 opening has its own unique but lack the wow of the crowd; In my opinion, the mix between stage performances and the athlete parades... felt so broken. Love Sydney Opening ceremony
To me as an American , I must admit that the Olympic Games of Sydney Australia 🇦🇺 in the Year 2OOO Were The Greatest And Most Spiritual as Far As The Opening Ceremonies go , in the Entire History of The Olympic Games !!!!!.....

I'm a Korean. But I was there in Sydney that time. I worked as a volunteer at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. And I'm in Perth now. My brilliant twenties still remain in Sydney. How can I forget those moments?
20 years ago, I was in china watching this in front of TV. Now I have been living in Sydney for 17 years, been Sydney Olympic Park for many many times.
I was at that Opening Ceremony..... It was a great night and I had a lot of fun...... My favourite moment was the countdown from 10 to 0 when Steven Jeffrey was on his horse name Amo and ran or galloped into the middle of the stadium with his whip to open or start the games...... The reason, is that, he was the 1st person in the world to open or start the games for the new millennium (2000) which was very special and I will remember that forever..... I still see this many times on this UA-cam.
This was one of best opening ceremonies of all time. I think this marked a new era of how these shows would be produced with visual effects and artistry on a grand scale. It's great that we finally get to see many of these ceremonies on here now (hopefully!!)without UA-cam blocking them each time. And best of all these shows are being presented in their entirety without anything getting cut or having to listen to annoying broadcasters talking on and on. This is the way NBC needs to televise opening and closing ceremonies from now on. Just let the show happen before our eyes.
I partially agree - there have indeed been times where I wished the announcers would just shut up. However, there were also times when I appreciated the context that the announcers provided. For instance, I'd actually missed the -Vancouver- Sochi (whoops) opener, so when the dancers in the closer referenced the famous Olympic rings glitch, I was clueless, but the narration immediately answered my question and saved me from having to wait until after the fact before I could appreciate what they were doing.
The Olympic Flame section still gets me emotional to this day. What amazing female Aussie athletes they all were. So amazing that they all got to be part of the ceremony. I feel such pride. The cheers from the crowd at each introduction was amazing to see.
Imagine the legends that will be honoured in Brisbane... Kaylee, Arnie, Ian Thorpe, Sally Pearson, Anna Mears, Keegan Palmer, Matt Wearn and of course, the brilliant Jess Fox just to name a few. They are all fantastic roll models with no BS. We have so much to be proud of.
The opening ceremony starts at 0:25, followed by the tune of music at 4:11 The president of IOC and the government arrived 5:53 Australia anthem (sang by Human Nature) 6:53 (Julie Anthony sang 8:20) Horses gallop on the field 10:40 Australia origin 12:13 Sydney band 1:23:59 Parade of Nation (Australia alphabet)1:38:40 with the host country 3:17:33 Performance by John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John (Dare to dream) 3:29:00 Speech from IOC president and the Minster 3:34:17 Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia announcing the open of the Olympic games 3:41:42 Vanessa Amorosi performing (Heroes lived forever) 3:42:17 Olympic flag arriving 3:47:00 singing the Olympic anthem 3:51:30 Olympic oath 3:54:48 Tina Arena and the Sydney choir performing (does everybody know the song) 3:57:00 Olympic torch and the lighting the cauldron 4:01:29
I had not seen the opening ceremony of Sydney 2000 in detail until now and I must say that the segment representing the 5 continents seemed amazing to me. 57:39 Africa 59:20 Asian 1:00:14 Europe 1:00:55 America 1:01:42 Oceania 1:03:00 This is the moment when we realize that Sidney 2000 gave us more carnival than Rio 2016 itself, although yes, Rio has the most beautiful cauldron of all.
Yea it’s also my favourite part. Seeing how the different waves of ethnic groups coming in one by one to join together in creating Australia is just beautiful. It not only celebrates the world’s diverse cultures as it also highlights the waves of migrants coming to Australia to establish their new home - ultimately turning Australia into a nation of multiculturalism. Though I thought green was Oceania and blue was meant to be Europe. Google also support this… so not sure why it was switched in the Sydney ceremony 🤔
The perfect opening ceremony held in the perfect time. A great way to start the new millenium. It may be outdated for today´s standards but it has that MAGIC factor no other ceremony reached . For me, Sydney 2000 will always be number ONE.
I agree that Sydney 2000 was the best. I missed the opening ceremony but was able to record the closing ceremony and also see most of everything else in between. I believe beach volleyball was played here for the first time in the Olympics. I recall early into it breaking into a game about half way through of the Canadian men playing the American men. We (Canada) were down 14 to 9 but I saw our men win that game 17 to 15. I wish I had a copy of that. One little disappointment for me is how they cut off the end. CBC showed us the fireworks right down to the bridge closeup with the fireworks going back and forth and then finally exploding out of the Olympic rings. Well, I have it on VHS. I lived alone and when it was over I had this awful feeling as if all of my friends had left me. When I watch the closing ceremony and see Slim Dusty start to sing Waltzing Matilda, I get that sad feeling again.
I was there that night, sitting in the open grandstand opposite the stage. The best live experience I ever had. I will never forget that single rider entering the huge stadium alone and whipping things off. More than 100.000 people held their breath that all would go well. The "Nature" segment at 35.00 mins. was so beautiful, there was not a dry eye in the house. Little Nikki Webster charmed the world, Tina Arena and Vanessa Amorosi sang their heart out (I know, not live), Olivia Newton-John looked like an angel, the Australian Women's Sport Hall of Fame carrying the torch around and through the athletes to Cathy Freeman was a genius move and some unsung hero behind the scenes made that stalled cauldron move again. On the way home the whole bus sang spontaneously "Waltzing Matilda". What a night.
I never knew the cauldron stalled until some people from Australia told me a decade later. I thought the music and the singing was just part of the performance as everyone waited and looked at it in awe on the tape-delayed broadcast. I visited the country in 2002 and stood under the cauldron at the location where it still is today.
Did you know that they had a technical fault with the signal to the cauldron in the computer system controlling the Olympic flame as it rose to the top of the stadium and so they had to reboot it add to that had five minutes of gas left in it when it did finally reach the top they were lucky it happened in time to finish the ceremony otherwise they probably would have had to light it the next day I guess but it looks pretty good where it is today
@@joshrees1985 I visited the cauldron in November 2002. I'm still amazed how one lights a cauldron when it's underwater. As for the technical fault, they dodged that bullet unlike what happened to the cauldron lighting at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver.
This is the first olympics I watched in full. My mother who I love so much would call me early morning to watch this and I have loved the Olympics ever since!
Australia's second summer Olympics after Melbourne in 1956. Came here after the announcement that Brisbane will host the Olympics in 2032! I was born in 2002 so I missed this on TV back in the year 2000, that's why I'm watching it on UA-cam. 🇦🇺
Its going to be so much fun! For some reason Australians make the Olympics such a success. Melbourne was huge at the time, and it really was a turning point for our city in 1956. Sydney was similarly huge, and perfectly times (Sydney really did peak in the year 2000). I think Brisbane is going to be an absolute blast.
Hey, at least the winter games began in 2002 at Salt Lake City. But it will sure take 8 years for the Brisbane Olympics in 2032 to come. We currently have the summer Olympics at Paris for the third time this year along with Los Angeles hosting the Olympics for the third time in 2028. And then Brisbane.
I sometimes forget people are born after 2000. I was 11. And those were some of the best times of my life. Australia has more challenges now than ever..I hope we will feel more united by the time Brisbane 2032. Brisbane is now my home. People struggle to feel excited about it because times are hard. Times have changed. Unsure what the future holds.. but will try and remain hopeful for a bright future. Australia is home. We need to stay positive. May see you in Bris 2032! All best.
This is by far, the most enjoyable to watch, the most participative audience that I have seen in the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics. Australia is really proud to have hosted these Games.
I was a foreign Samoan student in Melbourne, 2000 when this took place in Sydney. The best of the Olympic Games ever, in terms of relatability to human senses. Not over done, but just right for every human being to just sit back and enjoy a display of different talents in a more family-friendly atmosphere. I now live in Auckland, New Zealand but my heart is always "Australian" when I think about "pleasurable" moments! I was in the happiest of life when I was there!
It looks as though they're showing the modern girl the ways of indigenous life. Modern society turned their back on nature. 2012 Olympics definitely looks like predictive programming for what took place in 20'
I remember watching this as a 6 year old, born in Sydney and having lived here my whole life. Amazing to see how happy and joyful everyone was and how there was such a beautiful spirit in the stadium. This was the last major international sporting event before the events of 9/11 and you can tell - nothing since has had that same unbridled sense of excitement and joy.
I was there, 21 years ago, opening and closing ceremonies and everything in between! I will never forget Sydney 2000. I cried and cried watching it now. I've been away from my beautiful Australia for 18 years, I hadn't realised how much I missed it till now. Been around the world but I will always call Australia home, and, there's no place like home. I love you Australia, I love your spirit, your sportsmanship, your pride and your humility. I love my sunburnt country more than the air I breathe. God bless Australia 🇦🇺❤️
To be honest, A lot of people are blaming the Lockdown on Gladys, but I'm blaming it on the Anti-Lockdown and Anti-Vac protesters. If you want to get out of lockdown, then protesting will continue to spread the virus, and only make it worse. Please wear masks when you go outside and try to limit staying in indoor venues.
Proud to be a Dutch Aussie. There will never be a games like Sydney. I was 16. So many great sporting moments. Who could forget Cathy Freemans great win, Ian Thorpe losing by a fraction from Pieter van den Hoogeband. The little stateless guy swimming etcccc Everytime I watch the Opening Ceremony I tear up as was supposed to be there. Such a great tribute to our beautiful country. The indigenous parts I love the most.
That was the first olympic opening ceremony that I recorded in VHS, when I was 9 years old, and my beggining in video production. That time, I was wondering how amazing could be, if someday I worked during an olympics... That dream comes true 16 years later when I was hired by OBS to work during Rio 2016 Olympic Games. I hope that dream can be true again in the next Olympic Games.
Sitting here crying with pride how beautiful our ceremony was . The fact we celebrated the diversity of cultures had Aussie talent featured. 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I've been rewatching all the last 20 years of olympic opening ceremonies. And while it's hard to really compare them, I keep coming back to this for sheer joy and exuberance. Sure 2008 blew us away with technology and 2012 was a showcase in extravagance. But this was just so human and unaffected.
I’ve had every school athletics carnival in that stadium, it’s so crazy to think about this ceremony happening in the same stadium where I hide from teachers to avoid doing the high jump
How could you have had your athletics carnival at anz stadium? …. It’s a football/soccer stadium. you must be thinking of the running track which is next door .. this ceremony is at anz stadium
I’m going to show this video to the students on their crunch and sip time. They should know Aussie 2000 is the leading Olympic opening ceremony that no one can catch up. Proud to be Aussie
Wow, this ceremony is very touching. I especially love how the indigenous people were honoured in this ceremony. I never appreciated it when I was younger. Looking back at it, watching it properly, I'm amazed by how full of positivity, hope and goodness this ceremony was. I can see just how much the world has changed. Everything seems so dark, polarized and grim now in comparison.
Trust me, the hope and goodness you remember from your childhood still exists, it's just...you're an adult now. Because you have access to, understanding of and the responsibility to tackle the world's many problems in whatever way you can manage, your perspective has darkened from the burden. This is also why modern generations seem to get depressed and become adults faster: information on world issues are relayed almost instantly to them from every direction imaginable. But that doesn't mean we should all give up and say the hope and goodness we saw in the world as kids does not exist today! Like many things from 20 years ago, it has simply grown in such a way that you might not recognise it unless you looked closely. ❤
I can't believe this is happening?! I have the original broadcast on VHS which makes it very hard to watch. This was my first Olympics. I was almost 8 years old and I fell in love with the spectacle of the opening ceremony on the Olympics. It has been a dream of mine to attend an Opening ceremony and Tokyo 2020 was perfect but tickets sold out before I had a chance. Thank you for finally uploading this!
Yeah me to I was 8 years old and this was the first Olympics is seen and funny enough it was in my home country I ended up going to the Paralympics with my family about a month later
Just watched it again and yes it brought tears to my eyes. The world has seen so many changes since this amazing night. Wonderful memories of a fantastic Olympic Ceremony.
My father drove a country in the Olympic Village in 2000 and my mother was able to drive America I believe as well! Very fortunate for my parents telling me the stories of this memorable moment.
This Sydney Olympics Opening Ceremony was the greatest Olympics ceremony ever. The participants, volunteers and the audience were so alive. Very entertaining and so spectacular.

@@TheHlydenLord83 There are hundreds of reasons to mock the Kiwi's, but when it comes to the Olympic Medal Tally, one nation stands alone as having an outrageously farcical, teeny weeny, all time Olympic Medal tally, and the winner is India who has been to every Olympic Games since 1900 and has total of 9 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze. 5 of the Gold were won by Englishmen, pre independence.

Well Done Sydney and our Volunteers and the Australian Olympic Committee ... The Opening was a Truly magical experience especially when the Horses came out carrying the Olympic rings Flags then Hearing Human Nature and Julie Anthony sing Advance Australia Fair and then see the horses carry the Australian Flags out of the Stadium, it still gives me chills everytime i see and hear it❤❤
Can't believe its been 20 years since the Sydney Olympics I was only 17 it doesn't seem it was that long ago. This was a Amazing Opening Ceremony Representing Australia culture BEAUTIFULLY
The Best Olympic Torch so far where the element of fire and water were being combined. I still remember when I was watching live, the torch lighting ceremony was a jaw dropping moment.
This is the best Olympic ceremony, it's between traditional+classic standard AND modern+advance standard, just a perfect timing and transition, no extreme high technology, just the power of the people, the volunteers. The glitch added more taste and suspense, and the overall output in the cauldron is superb. 🎉 It's a long 4 hours of full and superb Op. ceremony, even in Closing ceremony. Update: still the best opening ceremony after watching Paris 2024.
You have no idea how happy this video makes me feel! Back then this ceremony was not broadcast in my country and then I just got to see some parts of it (like the awesome lightning of the cauldron). Curiously the closing ceremony and other competitions were broadcast here (including the first gold medal ever for my nation). Great memories, Australia was a great host, they set the bar really high.

I still remember this opening ceremony. I was 10 at the time, living in Germany and my parents allowed me to stay at home from school to watch it, because the ceremony started early in the morning over here. Truly great memories.
same thing for me and for me was worst because here in Brasil the ceremony was started 05 in the morning.I doesn t belive that 16 years later was our time to host the Olympics.
Congratulations, an impressive voice, it was undoubtedly one of the most memorable and magical segments of the ceremony, thank you for sharing that memory, because many times it is not possible to make visible who is behind the music or songs. That day was my 20th birthday and I can't stop seeing that show as a very special gift.
Yes come 2032 Australia will host the Olympic Games for the first time in 32 years since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and it will be the third time Australia 🇦🇺 has ever hosted the Olympic Games
The bushfire section “Fire” at 30:00ish really moved me this watch through. The 2020 bushfires were only a few months ago... so much devastation of landscape and wildlife
This is the best Opening Ceremony of the Olympics in this 21st Century. I've seen on UA-cam all the Olympics Opening ceremonies from Seoul to Barcelona to Atlanta to Sydney to Athens to Beijing to London and to Rio de Janeiro. This Sydney Olympics is the most lively and spectacular. The audience are so energetic that they cheered all the participating countries in the parade of nations that even the smallest and unknown countries were cheered. Unlike in other olympics, they cheered only the popular and favorite countries.😊
I don't know about best opening ceremony; certainly a candidate for the best Olympic Games of the 21st Century so far. It was a Games of pure joy and achievement; and before the World lost a lot of it's innocence only a year later. As opening ceremonies go: I believe Athens set the High Bar, Beijing jumped *over* that Bar, and London was close to the quality of Beijing's opening ceremony. London certainly is a candidate for the funniest ever!!
Very few acts of perfection come down to Earth in the shape of music. Vanessa Amorosi performing 'Heroes Live Forever' from 3:42:13 is one of them. Bravo! Bravo! Bravo! A million times.
The tv director could have done a better job showing the images on the sheet rather than the people underneath. The Kieran Perkins 1500m celebration image needed more screen time.
From when I was a little girl, and we had TV, my mum would get me up no matter my age, or how ridiculous the time, and we'd watch the Opening Ceremonies together! I managed to afford a seat for the Sydney Opening Ceremony, and on and off throughout the event, I called mum on my motorola brick phone, to 'still watch it together'
I remember this OC and it was my absolute favourite. The Australians really knew how to host this momentous event, and created lots of memories for me!

Best scene (2:29:52) was two Koreas together first time ever 🇰🇷🇰🇷
이승현 they did that in pyeongchang as well the Australian broadcast in Sydney 2000 called it a special sign to the entire world
Josh Rees it was very emotional as well

Agree
Same! I’m so happy that they got to experience it and be recognised for their amazing athletic achievements. They’re all legends of Australian sport ❤

I had not seen the opening ceremony of Sydney 2000 in detail until now and I must say that the segment representing the 5 continents seemed amazing to me.
57:39 Africa
59:20 Asian
1:00:14 Europe
1:00:55 America
1:01:42 Oceania
1:03:00 This is the moment when we realize that Sidney 2000 gave us more carnival than Rio 2016 itself, although yes, Rio has the most beautiful cauldron of all.
When I watch the closing ceremony and see Slim Dusty start to sing Waltzing Matilda, I get that sad feeling again.
it was so epic my brain needed break.. had to go get a drink and relax for about 10 mins and then start up again! LOL
And I absolutely 100% agree with that and Sydney 2000 will always remember the best Olympic Games ever in Olympic history
For me BARCELONA 1992 Olympic games
Doesn’t even compare to Athens, Barcelona or Moscow.

I’m excited but also I’m from brisbane and kind of embarrassed that ppl are going to see what it looks like lol
Next 2036 Jakarta Olympic 😁

The world was much polarized back then....

Early 2000's was just on another level. What a time to be alive
Absolutely and 2000s has it all no doubt about it with Music, Movies, TV Shows and Sports
Handycams instead of smart phones! People living in the moment instead of taking selfies for their social media apps!
It was no doubt a wonderful occasion for not only Sydney but the rest of Australia 🇦🇺 and the world and I’m proud to be an Australian today. The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games will always be the proudest 2 weeks in Australia history and Australia’s Sporting History
And as an American who's excited for LA28, I wanna say that I absolutely agree with you as this Opening Ceremony was amazing and so well-done and also, congrats on Australia hosting the Olympics again at Brisbane in 2032!
I am so excited that the Olympic Games are coming back down under in 2032
@@joshrees1985just 8 years to go until The Olympic Games returns to Australia 🇦🇺 for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.

20 years ago, Sydney was the best Olympics that the world had seen!!
Victor Uribe and I absolutely 100% agree with you on that and The Sydney 2000 Olympic Games is still and it will remain as the Greatest and the best Olympic Games ever in Olympic history
Totally agree. London was awesome, so was Beijing and Athens but Sydney was close to perfection
Tobi Ojo absolutely
@@Salesiable i go with Greece
I wanna see the olympics come back to the land down under!
Hello Australia loved this Opening Ceremony and loved the applause for your neighbour. Love from NZ!
of course. we love you nz
@sovereignty rules Most of the time anyway - not when we’re playing (losing to) the All Blacks 😂
*How Do NewZeaLanders, FeeL about being*
*the Most ReMote Nation, on Earth?*
I Still remember when Aussies mocked NZ because of NZs medal count during the olympics there
@@TheHlydenLord83 There are hundreds of reasons to mock the Kiwi's, but when it comes to the Olympic Medal Tally, one nation stands alone as having an outrageously farcical, teeny weeny, all time Olympic Medal
tally, and the winner is India who has been to every Olympic Games since 1900 and has total of 9 gold, 7 silver, 12 bronze. 5 of the Gold were won by Englishmen, pre independence.
1:59:29 Aparece en escena, la delegación de Colombia 🇨🇴. Se recuerda aquella medalla de oro, ganado por Maria Isabel Urrutia en levantamiento de pesas. Sin duda, un hecho histórico para el deporte nacional.
This was the best Opening Ceremony I’ve ever seen. I was 5 years old at the time when the Sydney 2000 Opening Ceremony took place on September 15th 2000 and I watched it live from start to finish and I have enjoyed every minute of it. I will never forget the Sydney 2000 Opening Ceremony for a long time. I have enjoyed every minute of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games including the unforgettable Opening Ceremony, Through 16 incredible days of competition right to the Closing Ceremony. I will never forget the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games it will remain in my memories forever and make no mistake about it The Sydney 2000 it will remains the Greatest and the Best Olympic Games ever in Olympic history.
Is it just me or was this one of the best crowds? They were much louder for everyone than other Olympic crowds.
They were mostly Australians, which might account for it ...
I was there- and yes the crowd was crazy for the whole 4 hours!
Also, it was by far the largest crowd in Olympic history 115,000!
us aussies love our sport and can get very loud!
@sovereignty rules You misinterpreted my words. Australians are people who like a good cheer
I rewatch yesterday morning to see how great Australia opening ceremony really was ..❤
Absolutely love Vanessa Amorosi and her amazing voice, couldn’t of pick a better person to sing hero’s live forever smart choice and unbeatable.

2:30:07 nice gesture by the organizers by playing "Arirang" to the Korean team. In fact, I love that they play some well-known songs from certain countries
Y que haya gente que dice que lo de París a sido muy bonito , no lo entiendo.
Yeeees sydney congratulations from brasil 💚💛💚💛💚💛
Your opening ceremony rocked it as well :)) love from Sydney
20 years later and I'm still amazed, Go Aussie!
❤❤ I was one of the 56 000 Volunteers at the Sydney 2000 Olympics, an experience that will live with me the rest of my life, The city of Sydney came alive for the 16 days in September, The Best Opening Ceremony to date even after watching the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony was a very big disappointment to see..it doesn't have anything on Sydney's Opening and Closing Ceremony's, Kylie Minogue, Midnight Oil, Slim Dusty to name a few to close the Greatest Time Sydney and the World has Experienced..
Aside from the technical malfunction, it really was spectacular!
Perfectly said.
I enjoy watching this without commentary and just the audio from the Stadium
You have no idea how happy this video makes me feel!
Back then this ceremony was not broadcast in my country and then I just got to see some parts of it (like the awesome lightning of the cauldron). Curiously the closing ceremony and other competitions were broadcast here (including the first gold medal ever for my nation). Great memories, Australia was a great host, they set the bar really high.
Andrés Mauricio shameful it was fantastic
Hopefully with Japan next year. They will broadcast live thanks to the Internet infrastructure we have now.

2:37:20 Sidney thank you, for the mexican music.🇲🇽💗💗
latin italy and Arabic people two latin they don't know where they come from
I will never forget the privilege of performing as the boy soprano soloist, at minute 36.00. Unbelievable.
That is so cool! I’ve often wondered who certain voices or faces belong to in this ceremony. “Nature” is one of my favourite tracks too 👌🏻
@@andrewsyd thank you and enjoy :)
And 32 years after this event, the Olympics are coming back to Australia in Brisbane!
I remember thinking that the 2000 games would never come and now they're 21 years ago.
Whats? 32 years? Omg 🤣🤣🤣
Can u imagine 🤔🙂
Yes come 2032 Australia will host the Olympic Games for the first time in 32 years since the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games and it will be the third time Australia 🇦🇺 has ever hosted the Olympic Games
The bushfire section “Fire” at 30:00ish really moved me this watch through. The 2020 bushfires were only a few months ago... so much devastation of landscape and wildlife
Best Olympic flame lighting ever! Water and Fire.
Barcelona
This is the best Opening Ceremony of the Olympics in this 21st Century. I've seen on UA-cam all the Olympics Opening ceremonies from Seoul to Barcelona to Atlanta to Sydney to Athens to Beijing to London and to Rio de Janeiro. This Sydney Olympics is the most lively and spectacular. The audience are so energetic that they cheered all the participating countries in the parade of nations that even the smallest and unknown countries were cheered. Unlike in other olympics, they cheered only the popular and favorite countries.😊
I was there, and had goosebumps when the Koreans came out together
I don't know about best opening ceremony; certainly a candidate for the best Olympic Games of the 21st Century so far. It was a Games of pure joy and achievement; and before the World lost a lot of it's innocence only a year later. As opening ceremonies go: I believe Athens set the High Bar, Beijing jumped *over* that Bar, and London was close to the quality of Beijing's opening ceremony. London certainly is a candidate for the funniest ever!!
@@matthewblack7206 Technically, 2000 was the last year of the 20th century!
think they kind of booed china? lol
@@PastPresented Good point.
I was 15 watching it on black and white tv in Algeria....love this games my favourite
I bet seeing it in colour for the first time, must have been like seeing it for the first time all over again!!

Assisti ao vivo na TV eu era criança. Hoje é uma memória nostálgica ❤
I couldn't watch it because this was broadcasted at 2 AM in my country! This is the first time I watch this! Thank you, Olympic Channel!
The best Olympics opening ceremony
kicking at myself for not watching the 2000 Sydney games back then,at that time i didn't know the existence of 2000 Sydney, plus i was 14 at that time, thank you Olympic channel for uploading this magnificent Opening Ceremony! when will we see a Closing Ceremony?
Though I was only 5 years old at the time, the Sydney 2000 Olympics made me so proud to be a Sydneysider.

The first time I watch this video I was in 6th grade, and this very moment is my second. This Olympic opening ceremony still remained my favorite so far! Hope I can attend in Tokyo!
One of the biggest regrets is that widescreen/HD didn’t reach Sydney 2000 in time. I’d love to see HD footage of what remains the best Olympics ever!
But imagine if Sydney 2000 Olympic Games was Presented in Ultra 4K HD Format
The dvd copy was hd and widescreen in "limited copies". I have one. The standard edition then wss cheaper...and in vhs. A new dvd player that could play it then was $450 😂.
@@paulgerrard9227 where can i find a widescreen copy? Is it true widescreen or cropped?
