@@spiralore sorry but if anyone can do a back flip on ice skating backwards onto someone’s shoulders, I’m assuming it takes a lot of power and trust. I’m sure it got easier for them but for a person that’s not a high trained athlete it’s not easy.
@@aly8950 that's not really what I meant. Of course it takes a lot, but you can probably do such things also when on the ground. I find it inspiring when I could do some of the moves of such an amazing performance...
I'm Asian and I knew literally nothing about ice dance until last month when I discovered Virtue/Moir 2018 Olympic free dance. This guided me to discover other routines they did and now I'm officially obsessed. I know that so many fans of V/M are a little disappointed that they don't share a romantic relationship in real life, and in fact married to other people and are parents (There's a rumor that Tessa is pregnant) I'm here to say that what they have is one of the most beautiful relationships which many people don't get to experience in this world. There's no romance, there's no lust in their relationship but what they do have is a very deep platonic love for each other. This form of love is the closest form of love to what I believe is true love (As true love is often unattainable because it's selfless) because there are no conditions, no standards, no lust involved. Their love for each other is purely unconditional and driven by their urge to mutually encourage each other to do better emotionally, physically, socially and maybe spiritually throughout their journey. Ice dance itself is a sport that involves two people who can collaborate or blend with each other to create a beautiful work of art. They once stated that they believe that they are an extension of each other when they dance. They danced together for 22 years. I repeat. 22 years!! The level of understanding, empathy and patience they had practiced for each other must be so immense because it's not easy to collaborate for with a person who has an entirely different personality of his/her own for 22 years! I think one of the reasons they hug before every routine (Oh, those hugs are just so profoundly beautiful in a way that it pulls all your heart strings!) is to assure each other that they are going to perform well and also to ease each other's anxiousness. Those long hugs help them to keep their heartbeat at the same pace and slow it down (This is a researched fact) so that both of them contribute to the program to their best. This is sooooooo beautiful!! I really want to experience a relationship like this. Believe me when I say this, they are literally soul mates, and they don't have to be romantic partners to be so because what they have is purer and deeper than that. The love they have for their life partners must be wonderful but, when Tessa and Scott are on the ice, it just transcends every other relationship they have. Isn't that just so beautiful? I guess that's what I want in a relationship, that kinda love.
but the audacity to play "I want Candy" after a skate routine that was literally the closest thing to a religious experience I've ever had...the only thing that should've been allowed to follow them was awe-struck scilence
I know!!! I always feel a huge disappointment and then hurry and mute it. And then watch the dance again to get me back in the mood. Honestly, this is the best piece of art I've ever experienced.
Watch more of their routines. They're really quite incredible. Really sweet people and incredibly talented. It takes an insane amount of work to reach their level, and I can't imagine how amazing it must feel to be able to float across the ice like that!
Im sitting here sobbing. No reason, just the pure beauty, passion, and that embrace they share at the end; 20 years of hard work, pain, and endless hours of practice paying off. I'm amazed.
Romain Haguenauer said this was the BEST he had ever seen Tessa and Scott skate this program. Even better than when they practiced it at their home rink.
Some athletes make mistakes because of pressure and stress, and they perform less well in competition. Virtue and Moir said the competition was like an engine and they used that pressure to give their best performances. They have an exceptional mind
I know!! Honestly I think that's probably my favourite part about the whole thing! The performance is otherworldly no matter how many times you watch it, but just seeing the genuine joy and amazement in their faces makes me cry every time. You can just see so clearly in both Tessa and Scott's faces the expression of "Did we actually just do that?" and it's just so pure to see!!
It was tougher for Scott if they lose, he’s the one carrying the burden, Tessa. He must be strong to carry 50 kilograms of body weight and not let her fall to the ground.
They ruined skating for me! No one touches what they have - the chemistry, the fluidity, the speed, the complicated lifts. I compare every skating pair to them and none measure up to them. The standard they set seems impossible for those skating now. I have saved all their routines so I can watch them when I need a pick me up. Miss you guys on the ice! Loved the time we got to watch you!
No one is gonna talk about the similitude of Tessa and the young Nicole Kidman ,protagonist of Mouline Rouge, and also for those who don't know the song is from that movie.
To those you don't know: this wasn't the original routine of Moulin Rouge in the 2017-2018 season. After many defeats by Papadakis/Cizeron in the Grand Prix competition, they re-choreographed the whole routine during the Christmas holidays, made it more dramatic, more exciting, and much more difficult than the prevous choreography. They debuted this brand new routine in the 2018 Canadian championship, which was only one month before the Olympics. This was really a leap of faith. I still remember the goosebumps I had when I first saw the beautiful routine at the Canadian Championship and in the Olympics, of course. Almost 5 years later, this is still one of the most beautiful performances in the Olympics history, and the determination behind this final routine is still as inspiring 👏
Since their return to the ice in 2016 Virtue and Moir have systematically won Papadakis and Cizeron including at the 2017 worlds. During the 2017 season Papadakis and Cizeron obtained higher scores in competitions in which Virtue and Moir didn'tt participate, which is why they modified their program by adding difficulties and the incredible final lift. Papadakis and Cizeron defeated Virtue and Moir at the 2017 GPF, presumably because Tessa and Scott's performance wasn't as stellar as usual. Finally, what made the difference for the Olympics was the mental, physical and material preparation. on all these points the Canadians were outstanding competitors.
Yeah but they didn't have the winning free dance and if Gabrielle wouldn't have been sabotaged with her dress in the rhythm dance they would have won Gold.
You know, usually when you watch a video so many times it loses the original feeling you had when watching it.... but for some reason no matter how many times I watch this, it is always as epic as the first time
So true. I have watched this performance so many dozens of times and it is an emotional experience every time. They are so perfectly in sync and everything is so fluid and connected and powerful. It's a bit overwhelming. And then the lyrics kick in "... And there´s no mountain too high, No river too wide, Sing out this song and I´ll be there by your side, Storm clouds may gather, And stars may collide, But I love you until the end of time, come what may ...". I mean, come on ... how much passion can a person take? They are just too perfect for each other!!
@@deyvivicente962 It isn't just one song, it's a medly of various songs from the movie Moulin Rouge. The very first line is from The Show Must Go On, the next part is from Roxanne, and the last part is from Come What May.

@@leonardodavinci4259 I would love to say that nobody is confused... surprise! plenty of people commented that Tessa and Scott were basically inspired by Kat and Justin - even if the timeline is obvious... same thing on Twitter, it's sad and almost unrealistic, but...
They maintain that their relationship is very hard to define, but that they are not a couple and if they were they would have announced it when they were on Ellen. And I kind of believe them when they say that, but it's also obvious that they love each other and not just in the way that friends do. I think they put that love aside *off* the ice to be able to portray feelings like passion and jealousy the way they do *on* the ice. So I'm hoping they'll start dating after they have officially retired (could be in July, I think). Or maybe they are already dating and deny it when asked by reporters as to don't take the focus away from the beautiful perfomances they've worked so hard for. It's really hard to say with these two:D
Virtue and Moir have ruined ice dancing for me. I can’t help but compare every pair to Tessa and Scott and no one comes close to their grace, beauty, chemistry, etc. in fact, I’m spending this Winter Olympic rewatching all their routines.
SAME HERE I've been watching the Olympics and no disrespect to the couples that are competing now but the way in which they don't even get CLOSE to this... They were on a complete other level and made a mark on history.
Starting with El Tango de Roxanne was a smart move, because you KNOW the audience was hooked as soon as that Spanish guitar played. Stellar performance, I had goosebumps the entire time.
@@Kamila-eb9pz Goosebumps: “a state of the skin caused by cold, fear, or excitement, in which small bumps appear on the surface as the hairs become erect.” I can’t describe the sensation well enough myself to give you a better descriptor, but it’s usually accompanied with the sensation of chills (good or bad).

Hello to the newbies, if you were wondering who Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are, here's a quick list of all their achievements. -The most decorated figure skaters of Olympic history (2010: 🥇, 2014:🥈🥈,2018:🥇🥇); - The youngest ever ice dance Olympic champions(20 and 22); -The first and only ice dancers to win gold at their first Olympics (Vancouver 2010); -the only ice dancers to win gold at the Olympics on home ice; -They are the first (and only) to complete a super career golden grand slam in both juniors and seniors (Worlds, Grand Prix Final, Four Continent and the Olympics). They are the goats of ice dance, probably the most versatile team, as showcased by all of their seniors' performances. And saying they are inspired by two characters from a Netflix show is a disservice to their achievements. Hopefully, you fall for them like we did and keep on watching all of their performances.
Its the opposite for me actually. Watching them is inspiring me to watch more ice skating even though I know they've spoiled me for everyone else hahahaha
@@izyaghaz yes, they are the best!!!! But we do have some good up and coming teams from juniors in Canada like Lajoie and Lagha who trained with them in Montreal, be on the lookout!
I feel so happy that they won, and almost three years later I CANNOT get over that program. In my opinion they are one of the greatest ice dancers of all time... just Virtue and Moir
@@MK-cy3ww Nope, he isn't :) If you compare this performance with other times they performance Moulin Rouge, you will see that it is part of the cheorography!
*Okay, but like, I can't be the only one who randomly clicked on this because I wanted to see some good skating and doesn't understand why everyone is talking about Netflix, right?*
As a figure skater, my awe for this program is just insane. Knowing the complexity of every move, I have an even deeper appreciation for their skating ability.
This will go down in history as the most beautiful gold medal performance ever, and both of Yuzuru's programs during this year. This Year was so goated.
tbh PyeongChang brought back so many fond memories of phenomenal performances. OMG VM and Yuzuru Hanyu, they are 🌟 stars 🌟 from the Galaxy. Imagine if only Yuna joined them and won Gold at the same year.
@@francescalee8934 that would honestly be so great 🥺 imagining yuna kim hasn't retired yet and won gold along with yuzu and moir-virtue, it makes me so emotional just thinking about it. now, not only yuna has retired but yuzuru and moir-virtue duo as well. watching their performance videos is bittersweet and nostalgic
Davis and White's performance in Sochi was far more beautiful than this. More sophisticated and elegant. Better twizzles, too. Tessa and Scott win when it comes to lifts (and they are very impressive, I fully admit), but otherwise I've never really understood their appeal. Savchenko and Massot also had a much more legendary gold medal performance than this. Truly classic and dramatic... I think they gave everyone chills with the greatness they displayed in the arena that night.
So in 5 minutes I have discovered this beautiful video, fell in love with this amazing couple, found out that they retired from figure skating and that they are not in a relationship, actually he's engaged to another woman.
There’s a conspiracy theory that they’re married with a kid if that makes you feel any better 😅 their 2008 worlds and 2010 olympics performances started a decade of shipping for a lot of people
Still one of the greatest performances ever, in any discipline, art or sport. Such a spectacular example of partnership so strong it seems like two bodies belonging to the same soul.
It's funny how a lot of people are here because of the Netflix series Spinning Out. For me, it was the other way around: I've only watched the show because of scott and tessa!
In 2020 when we were mostly confined to our homes, I would often watch Tessa and Scott skate on my computer. It brought joy to my life to see the beautiful stories they told on the ice. Then when I listened to interviews that they had done, I began to realize what exceptional people they are.
Most people watch the female dancer in pairs or ice dancing but Scott just catches my eyes. He is so skilled and did his moves so effortlessly, his skating skills is just flawless
You’re hardly the only person who thinks that. And it’s not like he’s catching your attention next to a plain, average skater. He’s catching your attention while skating with a stunning, near flawless partner herself. Yeah, he has a way of moving that is very commanding. Always did even as a kid.
these legends really did close out the entire dance event to the most iconic interpretation of moulin rouge of all time and then simultaneously became the most decorated figure skaters of all time by winning their second gold at these games. i cannot. what legends. l e g e n d s
I'm not an Olympic judge....But how is this not perfection? This is literally one of the most beautiful, perfect things that I've ever seen two human beings do. This is the real-world version of "superheroes." We're not supposed to be able to do stuff like this.
Because the French have Didier who pays for everything. It’s all a game of money in figure skating. Look at ice dance now, if the federation pushes you and put enough money in for you to win then you’ll win and have 0 competition like the French now. They make any mistakes and they still win by over 20 points and they blame it on travelling.
Ok. So, I showed this to a friend yesterday (who has no knowledge about the VirtuexMoir internet soap opera) and his reaction was: "My life will be ruined if these two aren't together. Are they together?" Me: "No one knows for sure. But, they say they aren't..." Him: "I don't want to accept that." He speaks for us all.
Think of them as performers. Workers. Two workers that shared a dream together, a passion that woke them up every morning, for years, to make this exquisit performance come true. If they are together or not is irrelevant to this discussion. These are artists capable of a level of synchrony beyond expectations to a point that almost looks like they were only one person in two separate perfect bodies. Nothing more. Nothing less. Tell your friend to enjoy the show and, if possible, learn a little bit about the inmense abilities humans can master.
@@tomlinkxxx That's true, but dang, chill. As a ballroom dancer, it can be very difficult to separate partner from lover, and it takes immense focus and discipline to come to that agreement with your partner.
I just realized something, Normally when I watch figure skating my heart clenches from time to time thinking that they could trip or miss at any moment, but with them, I NEVER felt that anxiety. They glide across the ice like it's not even there! Like they're flying!
It happens to me too... with all those difficult passages one could fear for them and I usually do. Not with them. It's like I can't entertain the idea of them falling.
Such trust in each other is astounding! She absolutely believed he’d be there every time ! He was! And it’s beautiful to see! So in Sync with each other; such an astonishing ice-story!
I forced my husband to watch ice dancing this Olympics, which he did with polite tolerance through the other contestants. Then he watched Tessa and Scott and someone who has never watched ice dancing before said “I don’t know anything about this but even I can tell they are on a different level.” And if that doesn’t sum Virtue and Moir up then nothing does.
This performance is also amazing because they clearly knew it would be their last Olympics, so for them to go on such a high note , with a song that declares in its final line “I will love you until my dying day” is just ….like, how can you TOP THAT 😩❤️
@@zilam98 exactly. The gold and silver medal ice dance performances were technically well done but only the bronze medalists Hubbell and Donohue (of the top 3) brought the same excitement, skill, and romance like Virtue and Moir. Plus the Spanish team.
I cannot fathom the sheer level of skill here not only in skating, but also dancing, lifting, and even acting, as well as trust in your partner. This is truly art at its peak. I could write an essay about this performance
Ah yes - as we are watching the olympics this year.......I miss these two terribly. I'm from the US but wanted them to win so badly and cried when they won. No ice team is better. Their body proportions, closeness and ability to create a world for us to enjoy is truly unmatched. 4 years since this performance and I come back to it again and again.
@@jasminerose332 Yes the pair with the fans who are salty that they rightfully lost to V/M in 2018, a decade into their career. And it's not just Virtue-Moir who are better than boring P/C; White & Davis, Kostomorov & Navka, many others are also better ice dancing pairs. The French (and Russian) skating fed is notoriously corrupt; it's the only way they can stay competitive with Russians, Americans and Canadians (and to a lesser extent Korea, Japan and China). That and using Canadian choreographers and coaches from Quebec.
Daria G love this comment because the gold medal they received that day is one that they've surely worked hard for and anyone watching this should have no doubts about it. Brilliantly executed technical elements and a clean performance that ended in thunderous applause. Truly golden!

Who is still here in April (now Juneeee) 2024???
I will always be here
Here I am
I’m here!!

but the audacity to play "I want Candy" after a skate routine that was literally the closest thing to a religious experience I've ever had...the only thing that should've been allowed to follow them was awe-struck scilence

I love how hype the male partners are after the skate is over. They're exploding with happiness, and it's so adorable and precious and sksksksksk-

The performance is otherworldly no matter how many times you watch it, but just seeing the genuine joy and amazement in their faces makes me cry every time. You can just see so clearly in both Tessa and Scott's faces the expression of "Did we actually just do that?" and it's just so pure to see!!
He was happy because they ended their career with a bang...

Gracey Raceland so they are a couple or just close skating partner friends?
Hello to the newbies, if you were wondering who Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir are, here's a quick list of all their achievements.
-The most decorated figure skaters of Olympic history (2010: 🥇, 2014:🥈🥈,2018:🥇🥇);
- The youngest ever ice dance Olympic champions(20 and 22);
-The first and only ice dancers to win gold at their first Olympics (Vancouver 2010);
-the only ice dancers to win gold at the Olympics on home ice;
-They are the first (and only) to complete a super career golden grand slam in both juniors and seniors (Worlds, Grand Prix Final, Four Continent and the Olympics).
They are the goats of ice dance, probably the most versatile team, as showcased by all of their seniors' performances. And saying they are inspired by two characters from a Netflix show is a disservice to their achievements. Hopefully, you fall for them like we did and keep on watching all of their performances.

Then he watched Tessa and Scott and someone who has never watched ice dancing before said “I don’t know anything about this but even I can tell they are on a different level.”
And if that doesn’t sum Virtue and Moir up then nothing does.
In future I will forced my husband! 😅😆🤗
This performance is also amazing because they clearly knew it would be their last Olympics, so for them to go on such a high note , with a song that declares in its final line “I will love you until my dying day” is just ….like, how can you TOP THAT 😩❤️
indeed! and i dont think the 2022 olympics will be as glorious for ice dance as 2018 has been
2022 ice dancing were all boring I stop watching
Wait why
@@meep9963 what do you mean why?
@@zilam98 exactly. The gold and silver medal ice dance performances were technically well done but only the bronze medalists Hubbell and Donohue (of the top 3) brought the same excitement, skill, and romance like Virtue and Moir. Plus the Spanish team.
just rewatching this after learning about their retirement, i'm sad
Me too :(
no way
it's so sad
Wait what!?!??
They're not performing at Beijing 2022!???
I cannot fathom the sheer level of skill here not only in skating, but also dancing, lifting, and even acting, as well as trust in your partner. This is truly art at its peak. I could write an essay about this performance
I mean, just type their names and PeyongChang into Google Scholar, people have written actual published academic articles on this performance. 😅
I literally keep coming back to this video but like... their chemistry is just so good that when they perform it’s really amazing and flawless
it's so heartwarming to watch, I get emotional everytime
This is at least my 10th time back
I'm obsessed. That full stop on "Roxanne" gives me chills
Ah yes - as we are watching the olympics this year.......I miss these two terribly. I'm from the US but wanted them to win so badly and cried when they won. No ice team is better. Their body proportions, closeness and ability to create a world for us to enjoy is truly unmatched. 4 years since this performance and I come back to it again and again.
do you know who performed for France?
@@jasminerose332 gabriella papadakis and guillaume cizeron
@@jasminerose332 Yes the pair with the fans who are salty that they rightfully lost to V/M in 2018, a decade into their career. And it's not just Virtue-Moir who are better than boring P/C; White & Davis, Kostomorov & Navka, many others are also better ice dancing pairs. The French (and Russian) skating fed is notoriously corrupt; it's the only way they can stay competitive with Russians, Americans and Canadians (and to a lesser extent Korea, Japan and China). That and using Canadian choreographers and coaches from Quebec.
the hugs and kisses at the end are just so sweet, you can feel the pride and happiness radiating off the screen!
PERFECTION! One of the most deserved Olympic gold medal I've ever seen.
Daria G love this comment because the gold medal they received that day is one that they've surely worked hard for and anyone watching this should have no doubts about it. Brilliantly executed technical elements and a clean performance that ended in thunderous applause. Truly golden!
BiYu Wu Exactly. Their dances are unforgettable. They brought ice dancing to another level - and I can say it because every single second of it is full of emotions and just worth to watch again and again. I have never supported athletes from a different country with all my heart, and I made an exception for them because my heart felt so Canadian at 5 am when they were skating.
not at all
Cedric L stop trolling
Cedric L LOSER
I'm sure they both perform fantastic individually but I cannot imagine them doing solo routines. They belong on the ice together.
She is engaged to my fave hockey player!! I really hope when he retires she makes him learn some routines with her!!! He’s marrying Canadian royalty ☺️☺️
@@Tonys_goomarshe’s how I got into hockey and I love her every year for refusing to wear the WAG jackets because, let be real she’s not the WAG in that relationship
they’re mouthing the words to each other. they may not be romantically involved with each other but they are definitely soulmates.
❤❤❤❤😭🥹
I was like oh this is their JAM 😂
soul mates for sure
