Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 at WRC Monte-Carlo 2024: Starts, 3-Cylinder Turbo & Anti-Lag Sound!

- The new Toyota's Rally2-class contender was unveiled as a concept at the end of 2022 during the WRC Rally Japan and made its official WRC debut as a customer car last January during the 2024 Rallye Monte-Carlo. Built under the Rally2 (former R5) rules, it shows some interesting aerodynamic parts added to the excellent starting point which is the road-going GR Yaris, developed with rallies in mind.
Under the hood the Yaris Rally2 retains the 1.6-litre, three-cylinder turbocharged engine of the road-going GR Yaris, of course with some tweaks and improvements, and it's linked to a 5-speed sequential transmission.

So happy to see the GR Yaris rallying finally! Was it in Sweden that WRC stage was won by a 3cyl for the first time?
Fast forward 4 months, the GR Yaris Rally2 really proved itself to be a great platform even though it just debuted this year with multiple wins & podiums.

Now this I can relate to. Reminds me of the Group A class that ran production cars and gave us the Celica GT Four, STi’s and Evos we all love. Aside from the big jumps here and there, I’ve lost interest and don’t care for the space frame winged madness in WRC1

Because it’s a gr Yaris. And I think they did it just because they could. Push as much power as they reliably could from a 3cyl motor

The road version of the GR yaris is a 3 cyl turbo, producing 272hp so it's make financial sense to reuse this engine since the wrc2 rule are 1600cc turbo 280/290ish hp.
Rally1 use a 1600cc 4 banger , but i bet it's like 10 times more expensive to an off the shelf engine they "mass" produce.

This is the route WRC should be heading. none of this super agressive aero and stupid hybrid nonsesse. Back to afordable, simple good looking cars people can relate to.
The problem is not only in wrc also in f1 and wec it ripps that classic sound from cars until no longer can feel that passion

I also 100% prefer any the F2 kit car sounds than present WRC/WRC2 car, but it's not comparable at all.
