    I lived in my car in the late 90's for about 3 years and I needed that time to get away from bills and people. I showered at truck stops. I would work part time as a waitress in different towns as I decided to travel and I always had plenty of cash to eat on and I saved most of what I made. My family called me nuts and mentally ill for living in my car. lol back then living in your car was seen as being just a homeless person. Looking back I should of just kept on living in my car. I had a peace of mind and freedom. Have fun people and be safe:)

      As a man I unfortunately can relate. I wasnt ao worried about the physical violence but the constant threat of leaving a relationship when I stood up for myself. She figured because she was in a better financial situation that I wouldn't want to leave..truth is I was in love and she knew it and took advantage of the fact that I wanted deeply to remain in a stable relationship because my parents divorced and I didn't want to be them. I've been thinking about living in a vehicle for awhile now. I can't afford to rent or buy a house right now, but apartment living sucks! 9 times out of 10 your neighbors will be horrible and you have to share walls and/ or air vents, and parking areas with them. My last neighbor was dealing drugs and smoking skunky pot all night. I am trying to move before the next horrible neighbor moves in. I am simply done with apartments and awful neighbors!

    • @elizabethoffgrid
      @elizabethoffgrid  10 місяців тому +10

      Couldn't say it better. Hate living in apts. Right now I'm really fortunate my neighbors ( 4 unit building), are quiet and great to live with. No loud music ,thank God. But at some point wanna move and thought of another apt gives me high anxiety. Just can't do it

    • @Elysian40772
      @Elysian40772 10 місяців тому +7

      I hear that, I'm being charged $1500 a month for a dump where the upstairs neighbors never leave and stomp from 9 am till 11 pm and another neighbor that plays loud music after 1 am and smokes which stinks up my apt to the point you think I'm the one smoking. Also infested with bats and roaches. Numerous complaints to the leasing office and nothing was ever done. So frustrating, I really don't want to rent again after this place and its super expensive in the Orlando suburbs.

    Nice! I think people who decide to choose living in a vehicle whether it be a van, car, ambulance etc in order to align with what they value in life like saving money, kinder to the environment, travel, spending more time outdoors instead of sitting on their asses on a couch, or to help with their overall mental or physical health are some of the smartest people. What you are doing IS the dream for me (but in a van probably a minivan to save gas) and maybe eventually get into a tiny home like you. I am married and my husband doesn’t understand this lifestyle (or tiny house life) and we have a young daughter so it’s not my reality right now but my goal is to save up for a minivan and then outfit it to sleep in and get out as much as I can for now. I’ve always been minimalistic in things I own so for me this lifestyle would fit. I’m envious of you! Congratulations and best of everything in your journey! ♥️

      @@Lee-fb4oj there is a difference between someone who you describe, someone who has no choice but to be homeless, someone who has nothing, someone that has given up on life so they don’t care how they leave behind wherever they are sleeping so they don’t care about leaving their garbage lying around. Then there are people like this lady and others who CHOOSE to live this way and leave no trace when they camp out somewhere, she’s respectful of her surroundings and doesn’t leave garbage. Her reasons are different then someone who is actually homeless. Clearly someone hasn’t explained this to you or you haven’t figured this out on your own.

    I found your video by chance and now subscribed. The idea of living in a car or a van/car fascinates me in that you can just go wherever and not limited and store belongings for the seasons in a secure lock up somewhere ( we get them here in the UK inside factory style buildings). I like you love camping but my husband is just the complete opposite. I suppose being ex armed forces he has camped a lot over his military career and hates it. This is something I'm considering doing on a part time basis, just to travel and visit a part of the UK every weekend or during the week for a couple of days. I wouldn't be 100% like you being full time but I'm 51 yrs old now and you start to think about life more.😊

    Your channel come up as a recommend in my feed. Your life mimics a friend of mines. However, she is in a tremendous amount of debt due to her daughter doing some things that she should not have and the Dam office refusing to prosecute. So she must pay all the money. She has property in Arizona that she purchased site unseen. She has a similar pan on where and how she might live after she has everything paid off. I will advise her of your channel. Can I ask what area in NM you have land? I have lived in Taos (LOVE it!) and also had initially bought land out by Tres Piedras, but realized it wasn't going to work for me at the time..many years ago. My son and daughter in law are headed to NM soon as they want to build a cob/earthbag type of tiny home and yet hopefully somewhere more temperate. Trying to figure out where that might be! Hope to follow your travels....I'll be joining the ranks likely in the fall....doing the snowbird thing in a van from Eastern Canada down to warmer climes in the U.S.

    I have a feeling as time goes on, and things get more expensive, and the housing market gets more out of control, more and more people are going to be doing this. More people are going to live in their cars and vans.
    I have a feeling we're just ahead of the curb, now. We seem like we're mentally ill or nuts for doing this, but as times get rougher, the ones who once called us mentally ill might have to resort to this one day.
    But it won't matter. Because we'll have saved up enough money to buy our own places, then. Lol.
