    I'm in the same boat. Getting rid of my apartment and utilities would put 1800 towards my debt.
    I could pay my debt off in 24 months.

    I suppose renting your home out,can get quite spendy. My parents owned a house to rent out,and i remember them getting lots of calls,of something that needed to be fixed or bought.

    I paid off my house in 6 years instead if 30 and my Credit Score is still in the 800's. I just use a Credid card for everything and pay it off every month.

    Thanks so much for talking about these things! You're right that there's a lot of cultural shame around finances and debt, so it's refreshing to see someone willing to have this discussion. As someone who also loves using Excel, I appreciate your use of spreadsheets. Do you have templates you're able and willing to share?

    • @elizabethoffgrid
      @elizabethoffgrid  6 місяців тому

      Thank you for saying that! Hm I don’t have templates (good idea though!) but actually I use Google Sheets now! I like it because easy to collaborate via the cloud

    I write down every month for my bills, and now I am keeping track every month and can't wait until my charge accounts will be paid off. My phone and car insurance is just one of those things like phone and insurance goes away only when it's canceled. I think you have a good idea to do spreadsheets, and keeping track. I have to do some type of job to earn some cash.

    • @elizabethoffgrid

    Saying this from experience. Beware of saying that you don’t have credit card debt. You do! It’s been converted to what you call “various flat rate loans,” totaling around $100K, $1000/month payment which most/all of that is from credit card debt (assuming based on what you shared). Now, don’t start using the cards again and rack those up. It’s easy to do when you have the mindset that “I don’t have any credit card debt.” 😊 Been there, living that--my mortgage is not paid off because of this (consolidated card, camper, and an another real estate down payment, ug!) and I want to club myself!

    I have one unsecured loan. 3 1/2 years ago, I had twice the debt and no money in savings. Today I have half the debt and my savings is greater than my debt. Living in my truck and not paying rent for the last 3 1/2 years made the difference.

    Thank you for a great video and for coaching and inspiring us to win in the balance sheet of life. Just wondering why you didn’t sign up for balance transfers which are 0% interest for about 15 months or so, giver or take, instead of a flat rate loan?

    • @elizabethoffgrid
      @elizabethoffgrid  6 місяців тому +1

      Ah I actually did that first -- worked great for a while! But they all expired so I went with the flat-rate loan.

    Good topic. Watching ,may I ask what you do for work? Cause it must be difficult to bathe. Remember bankruptcy is a one time option. I did in 2005. No credit card cause I can't have cause I spend.

    Just your monthly debt payments before you eat is more than my bring home in a month I'm single and live in a apartment in ohio. I have a total of 26 grand in debt and it will all be paid off most in 2 years and the last little bit in 3 years.

    As a start holy crap, can't believe I never met you before and wrote this comment but here we go lol
    Congrats on getting back on track after the pandemic. I never thought about the impact a lawyer might have from the pandemic especially in the area you specialize in. I hope you can keep it up and bring in more clients and ad revenue from your channel! I know you said you plan to put extra toward the highest interest which likely saves you money in the long run. Looking at the minimum payments on your 4 lowest debts by amounts, this would save you just over $400 in minimum payments once paid off. If you continue with the snowball method you would pay everything off in early 2031 (I think) which is after your target. Anything extra you can put on top of anything can significantly reduce the time for sure. I think you'll be out of it much sooner.
    If it were me, I think I'd sell the house and be done. It might be in better shape than it sounds but being a lot older, I'd guess there might be significant repairs in the coming years unless a lot of modern updates have already been made. I know you wouldnt have a place to stay but you might be able to find something much newer for yourself. Also starting from "zero" isn't all that bad since youre in the hole.
    The only thing which you didnt mention here (maybe in other videos) was retirement savings. The house would obviously be something you could fall back on in retirement if needed. Hopefully you have some stuff set aside already or can at least make huge contributions after all debt is gone. Not sure your age but something to also consider.

    • @elizabethoffgrid
      @elizabethoffgrid  6 місяців тому +4

      Yep everyone has a different type of plan that's right for them. I do have retirement savings (I'm age 49) that I put money into every month. I don't really plan to retire in a traditional way/time because I have my own businesses that I enjoy, and I already travel -- it's more for if/when I become unable to work, even on YT or consulting or lawyering.

  • @roxannegalvan5927
    @roxannegalvan5927 6 місяців тому +1

    Well, when you own a house, you do have to invest money for repairs.

    Do you tell your insurance company that you live in your car? Does the rate increase because of the risk of everything you own is in the car?

    • @elizabethoffgrid
      @elizabethoffgrid  6 місяців тому

      So no I did not tell them - it’s different if you do an actual conversion (adding electrical, plumbing, etc) but really I just have stuff in a car. Insurance only covers a certain amount in a car anyway and typically has a limit on stuff like computers (mine are covered by my business insurance). I do have insurance on my storage unit stuff, too
