Good luck, I know you can do it. Lots of people find themselves in your same situation these days. It's nothing to be embarrassed about. ❤

    If I didn’t have 3 children and a husband this is definitely the sort of life I’d choose. I love my car so much. It’s not fancy but it’s my little space. Sometimes if my family stress me out I go for a drive, park somewhere nice like the sea or next to a nice farm field and just sit there in the peace and quiet. Absolute bliss and I would choose that over going to a party any day.

    I love all the discoveries you are making. Night routines are so important. Just one safety tip to consider, you said at 33 minutes in that you put the big "junk drawer" bag in your drivers seat when you go to bed. You want to keep your driver seat ABSOLUTELY clear so you can jump into it and get out of town when things get weird. I only car camp on weekends, and things have gotten weird and I was SO thankful I could immediately hop into the drivers seat, snatch the front window cover out and pull out when people started BANGING on my car at 3AM in parking I found on Ioverlander. Stay safe and keep doing great videos! Love you channel!

    I am high functioning Aspergers Syndrome (labeled autism here in the US) so I do understand anxiety, we had our refrigerator in our RV break down, that we have lived in since 2018 and we had to use a cooler, it was a high priced cooler over $100 but it did not keep food safely cool in summer so if you can order one of the mini 12 volt refrigerators, I recommend that for you and we got a solar generator and that helps a lot also, camping in any motor vehicle is not an easy life even an RV, especially when things break down, because they do, no older RV was designed for full time living, they were designed for vacations, cars were designed for travel so that will be an even greater challenge to live in it, best wishes

    You know as I mentioned those travel centers you can sleep there in your vehicle, you just let them know, and a store to buy food, a place to shower, and get gas. I haven't tried it yet, but I will be back on the road again, I have to get my vehicle repaired so, as soon as I am done, I'm going to re organized so I'm not sleeping in a pile of stuff.

    You have to ask for the packets at safeway. You might want to think about the little mayo packets for your car. You open use and throw packet away. Peanut butter is also good & easy. Also what about protein shakes? I like the Dr. Adkins strawberry. They keep me full, super easy about 2.00 a shake.

    Unorthodox suggestion. Buy overnight Depends underwear and they hold urine without messiness. You can pull them on and off and they look and feel just like panties. Get a scented trashbag and dispose of them during your morning routine. This can alleviate stress of finding places to pee in the middle of the night.

Thinking I could pull it off but I was thinking I’d be more comfortable in a van. However, my car I’d paid off! I’m most concerned how and where I’d sleep. I’m most worried about feeling safe while sleeping. Any advice?

      For me the nighttime would be a huge challenge
      I would be too freaked out
      Yes safety at night is my biggest concern.
      I would never be able to sleep sadly
      Guess I could travel with a caravan of nomadic car/van or RV folks

    • @elizabethoffgrid
      @elizabethoffgrid  Рік тому +13

      For me, here's what I do:
      - not arrive to my sleeping place until it is dark
      - once I arrive, immediately lock doors, turn off headlights, and cover windows
      - do not exit the car once I am parked (I crawl into the back into my bed, once the window coverings are on)
      - park under the street light, giving me ambient light in the car and making car less of a target for stealing anything
      - know where my keys are (put them in the same place each night) so I can start the car and drive away if needed
      It took a bit but I now usually feel comfortable. If I don't, then I leave and find somewhere else to sleep (which sucks to do in the middle of the night but better than not being ok!).

    I homeschool my 2 teenagers but also work from home full time. I am able to take my work with me in the car while I wait for the kids to get out of all their activities. While I am out and about I often have bathroom issues. Sometimes the parks closest to me have terrible bathrooms, but I really got to go. There have been 2 occasions where I have casually walked into a hotel, straight through the lobby and by the front desk, to the main hallway and found the restroom. I think the front desk even said hello and so did I. I just acted like I knew exactly where I was going and not one person seemed to notice. So this may be a good option for a bathroom situation at any hour depending on the hotel. Now this hotel, was a nice one and the bathroom was nice and clean.
    Since all of the kids activities are 30 minutes from the house, I don't go back home and usually find a place to park and work. I am always on the hunt for shade!

    Hello, I am constantly thinking of different ideas about daily living. I currently live alone in a small efficiency apartment. I do deal with constant depression. I tell myself that my tiny apartment is a blessing compared to people who are completely homeless and they don't have a vehicle.
    What's wrong with me I keep telling myself. I've been single and divorced for about 25 years. I know that I'm tired of being alone and no companion in my life. I just don't want to find myself in a relationship that makes me say or feel like, omg, why am I in this crazy relationship. I listened to your concerns on your video. Food can be an issue. Eating out as much as you can might be a solution but only with budget spending on cheap food items that aren't too expensive. Is the weather where you are now living really hot? I would hate living in a vehicle here in San Antonio in the summer time. My vehicle is not a late model vehicle and not a SUV. If my vehicle was a newer SUV, I'd probably try living out of my SUV and moving to an area where the weather is much cooler. Don't worry about what people think because they aren't you and you aren't them. They know nothing about your life or whatever you've been through. I've considered living in a tiny house one day. If you need a friend to talk to, I'm only a click away if that makes any sense. God bless! I'm Louie

      Have you considered moving to a city or state that is much cooler. Your reply put a smile on my face. I ran a couple of errands today and got caught in the rain when leaving Walmart and walking to my car. The rain felt good, it was such a blessing! I hope your day today was a good blessed day. I too would definitely take advantage of the showers at a gym. I need to lose some weight and some cardio on the treadmill wouldn't be a bad idea. I have diabetes type 2, some of my meds would require refrigeration. A good trusty friend would be a big blessing for you but only someone who is 100% trustworthy. It would be a big blessing for you if you lived in a city that is much cooler where a sweater or a nice cozy blanket would keep you very comfortable. Have you ever been to San Antonio, Texas? It gets insanely hot out here. Thanks to God, my apartment is always nice and cool. Take care and God bless! Hope to hear from you again.
      Louie M.

    Hey Elizabeth you could consider the vegan diet for less acidity in your body and also a way to heal type two diabetes. Many years ago I lost 20 pounds in 30 days with this pH balanced vegan diet. When our body has less acidity from animal products and coffee it can drop extra pounds quickly and then diabetes is not a problem at all. It’s much easier to store tofu, pees, hemp seeds and alternative milks because there’s no fear of them going bad. When I cook vegan food in my Honda Accord it’s not that big of a deal because it’s just vegetables and no splattering meat/cheese. This diet helps me to be even more simple living in my Honda.

    • @elizabethoffgrid
      @elizabethoffgrid  9 місяців тому

      There's a good possibility I may move to being vegan -- I was years ago but stopped for various reasons -- but it would be interesting to try it now that I can measure my blood sugar, so I can see what works!

    I tried car life for 2 wks and it ended with my car breaking down on the side of the freeway on my way home, it sucked! I have been stuck since then because I was also a delivery driver and I have some health issues that make it difficult working a regular 8-5 office/csr job...carpel tunnel in my right hand is pretty bad, type 1 diabetes and a bunch of other issues. I've applied for disability but I'm also attending school so I'm still working on improving my situation. I'm using the leftover from my financial aid to get a van...I'm going to try the minivan thing and doing delivering while waiting on disability because I did apply for whatever it is that you can get and still work some, hoping it all works out. I live with my mom and I really cannot stand it anymore...we are totally opposite and she's just...well, I can't even explain it but she helps me out financially, which has been helpful, she only does it because I'm her daughter and cuz she's a "chrisitian" and won't let me go homeless...while I am totally grateful, we fight all the time and she likes it hot, I like it cold or at least cool....sigh...I can't afford rent anymore, it's sky high so between that and just wanting to travel, I've decided to do this. I also need to get the hell out of phoenix permanently and the plan is to move towards northern cali (despite the politics) and stay on and off with a friend who lives near the more rural/mountainous areas...she said i could park there anytime...she lives on a farm. I'm sick of all the political crap and people being divided...I just want to get into a more normal area...if there are any.

    Get WeatherTech custom shields. I also have a luggable loo in the back of my car with a hefty trash liner in it, for if I have to go number two during the night -- all the convenience stores in Colorado close the restrooms at night due to the homeless doing drugs in there. I then dump it in a dumpster somewhere. If I need to pee in the middle of the night I stand up in the back (hunched over), and pee in a large cup -- then dump it out the window.

    So many similarities. If you are in the Modesto area reach out. (Don't judge. I definitely did. Moved from Sacramento.) I lived the whole nomad life for 2 years after selling my house. Loved it. Highs and lows for sure. Get an inreach if you can. Federal park pass and CA park pass great purchases. I used the crap out of them 😊

    Peanut butter and jelly be your best options. Get shelf stable meals. Buy can beef stews etc that if push comes to shove you can eat out of can. If you can find a fan that runs off your cig lighter might be option for you. Put ice cube in spray bottle. Look online for property tax sale in your area to get small plot for yourself. Safe place to park. Give yourself an address. Pick rual no zoning place to buy. Good luck.

    Maybe tortillas better than loaf bread, with salad, chickn or tuna, oatmeal instant, gd hot or cold water, & dry instant soups w crackers, just add hot water, watched meals without a kitchen, honey mustard etc don't have to be cold like mayo. May be time to swap 😊

      For cooking I have an EcoFlow Delta 2 1024Wh LiFePO4 Battery, Fast Charging - amzn.to/3qBF3Sl (affiliate link). I do like it, a good balance of not being too heavy with having a lot of power and really fast charging. It works great for cooking, which requires a fair amount of watts.
