Robin has heartache in his voice. Barry has the airiness of first love. The juxtaposition of all the Brothers voices is profound. You must realize that the BeeGees always did their own sound which always was the case. Disco was just a label that was slapped on them.
So true, and it was just a blip in their decades long career!
Barry was almost always the "front and center" voice, but Robin was a huge part of that Bee Gees "sound". When he sings "There's a hole in my soul", you believe him.
The disco was music written for the soundtrack of a disco movie!
@@ginamplm - The songs that appeared in "Saturday Night Fever" had already been written and recorded in France for their next LP. Stigwood asked for songs for the movie and they sent him five already written for that LP not even knowing much about the movie and they were not written expressly for the movie.
So true! My favorite TAPE is/was To Whom It May Concern. So much music before the big disco craze. They were always great regardless of whatever style they were doing.
I've always thought Robin had the best voice. The most sincere. He's soulful, you can see it in his eyes.
I thought he was amazing and gorgeous in the old video for Run to Me
Agreed, Robin was my favorite
Come on now....Barry is the best!
All Robin sang was a quivering vibrato his entire career. Barry's always had a beautiful head & chest voice and falsetto, and could sing with anyone & sing anything!🎶
@@kthorrubbish. Seriously? Ms Negative once again. We get it, you don't like Robin, Barry's your favourite, blah blah. Stop slamming Robin on every reaction channel. You need a different hobby to channel that anger and negativity of yours.
Robin's solo voice is incredible; beautifully haunting....and it's live! I love this song. And it's nice to see the Twin Towers in the background ❤
The Twin Towers was the 1st thing I saw when it came into the picture. Sad even now huh?
I love all eras of the incredible reign of the BeeGees from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s. Plus Robin with his almost operatic, amazing vibrato voice stood out on this beautiful song.
No way it's live; this is a lip synced performance video. Hey, they're still great!
I can't say it's "nice" to see it. It's sad and then gets me angry again. I'm going to guess that you don't live in the NYC area.
This is a real live performance for a BBC programme but the vocal we are hearing is the studio version. I have seen the live version on UA-cam but can't find it again!
Probably the most famous song that Robin sings lead on is "I started a joke". It's all Robin.
He also sang the lead in Massachusetts, which was popular, also.
@@dougpettepier2818 - Their first UK #1!!!!!
Well Barry is in the background doing his part.
@@LillyMarz777 - As they all did, songwriting, singing.
I Can't See Nobody was a pretty big Bee Gees hit sung by Robin.
😎Robin Gibb had one of the most UNIQUE voices in music. He is sorely missed. Most of their earlier hits in the 60's featured Robin. Barry would sing the parts he wrote and Robin would sing the parts He wrote. "I started a joke" "I dont want to be alone" from their 21st album come to mind. There last album "This is just were I came in" took them back to their earlier vibe which is my favorite. Its a great album and the title track kills.
They were not done. They continued until Mo died in 2005. Plus, they ALL sing falsetto, but Barry was the primary falsetto. Try Massachusetts (live 1989) for more of Robin singing lead. He did so on an number of their hits. I know it feels like you've listened to lots of their songs, but in reality you have a long way to go. You've only listed to a few when you consider how many hits these guys had. Also try Nights On Broadway live on the Midnight Special. That one has Robin singing with Barry, and Barry singing in his lower register. Truly cool!
Mo' passed😢 in 2003 miss him Robin and of course Andy❣️LOVE MY BEE GEES🥰 keep going as they have So Much More Wonderful Music from 5 decades to listen to and Def Enjoy😍☮️
Yes! Forgot about “Massachusetts”! TY!
THANK YOU for highlighting a song with Robin leading parts. You would love I Started a Joke from 1968 with Robin singing lead. And he was still a teenager when he wrote it!
Yes yes yes I STARTED A JOKE
@@jackyhughes793 - I just commented suggesting I Started A Joke - great minds think alike.
That song was playing in the background when Robin's body was being taken in a horse drawn carriage to his funeral.
Yes to I started a joke and don't forget Massachusetts. I like the 60s BeeGees.
I am still not sure that they don’t only want to hear Barry…. We will see, right?
Thx y’all! Their pre-disco era songs spotlight Robin’s voice more often!
Pre disco has some good funk to it- as in Jive Talking and Fanny Be Tender.
@@deanarjones9114 Before that. I prefer their classic sound.
Yes, even before JiveTalkin' great songs and sound. And Robin's vocals were always the best to me. @@TREMERE1
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "To Love Somebody" and "Stayin' Alive" !! Congratulations to Barry Gibb on his Kennedy Center Honor !!
I love "To Love Somebody "
Totally agree that they should watch an early performance of “To Love Somebody”. When they were young. So much talent.
@@kdavis9943 not to mention, really cute. 😊
I was thinking it's hard to believe that they didn't react to Staying Alive yet.
Guys you really need to check out Massachusetts. It's awesome
Robin has the voice of an Angel, just incredible vibrato!
I prefer his voice over barry gibbs
THIS is the one Bee Gees song i've been waiting for you to react to. Robin's vocals are amazing in this one.
I also like him in their song "Wedding Day".
Me too! Robin really shines in this one. I think I may have suggested this a couple of times. I also think they need to do some of Robins solo career. "Please" is a favorite of mine.
The Bee Gees are so much more than disco. If you dive into their late 60s catalog you will fall in love with their music all over again. I promise.
You’ve got to check out the BeeGees original songs !!
Pre- Disco!!
How we first heard them!!!
1.I’ve Gotta Get A Message To You
2.Massachusetts
3. Words
4.I Started A Joke
5. Lonely Days
6. To Love Somebody
7. Immortality
all great ones , really get to hear them singing in these !!
With spicks and specks before that if you were in Australia.
When they did "New York Mining Disaster, 1941" a lot of people thought it was the Beatles recording under a different name.
They already did Immortality....post-disco with Celine Dion.🎼
Love Robin’s voice. Wish he had more songs. Never too much Bee Gees.
I’m so glad you guy’s got around to this song, hope you enjoy it as much as I do! Robin sounds amazing 😍
Robin’s voice is unmatched.
If you like Robin's voice then you should listen to some of their pre-disco songs where Robin often took lead. "I Started a Joke", "Massachusetts" and "I've Gotta Get a Message to You" would be good ones to check out.
I would also highly recommend listening to Robin's lead on "I Can't See Nobody." The live concert version from Melbourne in 1974 is the best, but there is also a terrific live version from The Midnight Special in 1973.
My 21 y.o. daughter is a Massachusetts fan. Always her face!
And “the singer sang his song”…absolutely beautiful
Robin has an incredible voice.
the beautiful voice of Robyn Gibb makes this song complete.
No one sings a love song like the Gibb brothers 🧡
Robin's voice actually takes my breathe away. No other way how to describe the impact of hearing him.
Its SIR BARRY GIBB remember that
@@andrewprice7161 - Robin was also nominated for knighthood and not just for music (including the orchestral Titanic Requiem played by the National Philharmonic in London), but also for his many philanthropic achievements (President of both The British Heritage Society and the International Composer's Union, The Bomber Command Memorial he fought to get built for WW2 vets, his work for refugees and vets, Outreach for underprivileged children, etc.) specifically in his homeland of the UK, (It IS after all a British honour) but died a prolonged painful death before it could be bestowed. Remember THAT when you try to insult a dead man. Your comment was totally unnecessary.
@@susieq9801 ok
This Bee Gees song is amazing! I love Robin's solo voice. Also congrats to Barry for the Kennedy Center Honors. So sad his brothers couldn't be there with him ❤❤❤.
Bee gees never disappoint, would love to hear lonely days. Did you watch the Kennedy honors, Barry was one of the recipients ❤
It was phenomenal!
A shame his brothers could not be there to receive it with him.
A well deserved honor!
@@kthor - I agree. Long overdue.
I love Robin's voice he has such a nice tone he can sing just as good as Barry !!
Robin's voice really shines on "Bodyguard"....my favorite
It's an outstanding, beautiful song from the Bee Gees! I love the range of Robin's voice in the chorus of "For Whom The Bell Tolls!" 🔔
Magnificent! 🤗
You two lovely souls must hear Maurice sing lead in Closer than Close, or Man in the Middle. You will be so surprised. This trio has been my favorite since I was a child in the 60s. Your journey through their catalog has lots of surprises. After hearing Mo sing lead. My real request is Tears from the album ONE!
It's so sad but I love TEARS, as well as WISH YOU WERE HERE!😥As you prob know, the One album was dedicated to Andy. The opening lyrics of TEARS is definitely coming from Barry...." I started out to be the man behind the scenes, knowing I was in above my head".😓
Man in the Middle is stellar!
I am so glad you checked out this song! One of their best and it truly showcases the quality of Robin’s beautiful voice. Your reactions were priceless!
Robin and Barry shared the lead in the early days; Barry took over in the disco era; and they shared again in the later years.
Robin’s most famous lead songs are Massachusetts and I Started a Joke. Country Lanes is another beautiful one. I personally love 2 live performances that were 30 years apart. In 1974 I Can’t See Nobody
and Please in 2003 right after Maurice passed suddenly.
And to get a sense of his falsetto, check out Living Together! You will be shocked- it is higher than Barry’s!
Two great songs where Maurice sings lead are Closer than Close and Man in the Middle. He truly blended their voices together and was the glue.
The Bee Gees transcended over 50 years and are truly one of the best bands of all time.
Ths BeeGees footprint from the late 60's to whenever is so much larger than most people realize. Whether they were performing, or writing or producing music, they were EVERYWHERE!!! They were HUGELY talented people.
I'm glad you are starting to notice that Robin's voice is absolutely stunning. If you want another one of Andy's hits, check out "EVERLASTING LOVE." This is the song title that the brothers had engraved on Andy's tombstone.
Great suggestion & written by big bro Barry!
Words by the Bee Gees would be a good one to check out. By the way, slightly unrelated, Robin was my favorite vocalist of the Bee Gees. He had a built-in vibrato that no one else could match.
Words has been my favorite since it came out - at that time they were so young, to be so perceptive about love.
@aletmartins6940 very true. I was a fan of their early music before the Disco era. Not that I didn't appreciate their music in later years, I loved all of it really.
I agree, WORDS is a must....preferably 1968, or 1979 or 1989!
@kthor definitely 1968, not that live version in later years. That didn't do the song justice at all, in my opinion.
This is one of my favorite Bee Gees song videos. This song talks about losing a loved one, which always thought of their brother Andy. A great song with Maurice leading " Closer Than Close".
I love Closer Than Close great song.
Closer than Close is probably my favorite Bee Gees song. I wish Maurice did more lead vocals.
And man in the middle love it x
Okay, Jay; I find it hard to believe, with your half million subscribers, that The Bee Gees haven’t been suggested nearly every day!! A couple more for you; “Massachusetts” and “I’ve Got To Get A Message To You”, Robyn & Barry alternating the lead!❤❤❤❤❤❤Love The Bee Gees!
Robins voice is absolutely beautiful
I Started a Joke, with Robin as lead, always had been my favorite Bee Gees song
Robins voice is truly something special. Please listen to some of their early songs from the 1960's like I Started a Joke, Massachusetts, Run to Me, and New York Mining Disaster 1941.
Robin sang I Started A Joke and it was my favorite Bee Gees song of theirs for the longest time.
Robin sang a lot of the leads pre-disco. All three had great voices. My favorite song featuring Maurice was Closer Than Close.
You said it well. Perfection. Never have three brothers made so much great music, for sooo long, that is soo good. The Bee Gees are so much more than just the disco era!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of my very favourite songs of all time. I recall when this released in 93, and I saw this exact live performance - EVERYONE at the time though they were done, this turned them back into a force overnight, even though it didn't hit #1, not even #3 in the UK but it was an incredible year for music. Glad you guys loved this!
So so glad you reacted to this one - I feel about Robin the way Jay feels about Barry. Their later music from the 80’s into 2000 was some of their best. You guys really need to investigate some of them. As soon as I can I’ll try and send you some of the top ones. Did you happen to see the Kennedy Honors? Barry Gibb was one of the honorees. And by the way, Robin’s wife called him her songbird.
The whole family and many fans called Robin "Songbird". Such an appropriate name. On his grave stone it says, "Our songbird has flown".
Going back to 1967, and Robin's voice on New York Mining Disaster 1941, and Massachusetts was so good. I love to hear it now.I loved to hear it way back then
Love your reaction when Robin opens up the throttle on the chorus! His voice had a haunting and vulnerable quality to it that's just mesmerizing. "I Started a Joke" from their early days is a must, it's his signature song. Maurice had the deepest voice of the three and didn't get to sing lead much, one of my personal favorites that he did is "Suddenly". 🤪👍
I could have sworn you guys reacted to this before! But you could do the BeeGees over and over and over. ❤. Please, please look more into Robin' S leads, he has some amazing ones like "I Started A Joke" and "Massachusetts " His voice is so different from Barry's but equally amazing.
And a HUGE congratulations to Barry for being awarded a Kennedy Center Honor!
I also love Keith Urbans version of to love somebody at the bee gees tribute show
"i started a joke" shows robins voice at its fullest,a must listen to track,it may make you cry amber, you have been warned !
Robin..... ethereal vocals. Always been my favorite
The Bee Gees never disappoint, you should really check out their music before Disco. They had a ton of hits in the 60s. And a few of those Robin sing as well
Knowing that Robin is gone and will never create again makes me cry. He's always been my favorite.
Check out their songs "Wedding Day" a Robin track featuring his signature vocal vibrato"Technicolor Dreams" a Barry track, and "Man In The Middle" the Maurice track and the title track "This Is Where I Came" from their final album. Maurice died not long following it's release.
Bee Gees are just awesome. Everyone was blessed with a golden voice.
Robin is the Best...always have been!! His voice is Heaven, to me!😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
This is a great song! So sad that Robin and Maurice Andy is gone! Great family that made great music!
Hi, love you guys! Did you happen to see the TV special on CBS last night? It was called The Kennedy Center Honors. It’s an annual event and Barry Gibb was one of this year’s honorees. You can probably find it on demand or online. Keep up the good work Rob Squad! Best wishes for 2024🎉☮️❤️
I would like to suggest their medley from the 1989 Melbourne "One for all tour" so you can see each brother stand out and their interaction. Robin was called the SONGBIRD, his voice amazing. You picked him out in the interview you did as the funny one. Barry said "Robin was the funniest man I ever knew. Nobody could match his wit". I'm glad you departed from the disco era. There was so much before and after that time in their career. Even their medley from Australia as kids doing "Alexander's ragtime band" showed they would be stars.
Robin singing brought me to The BeeGees and I never left. They always make me smile when i hear them but when Robin steps forward it's a sweet spot for me. Robin always is so animated when he sings. Miss you. RIP Robin and Maurice The BeeGees have a HUGE amount of music which was not disco, you need to jump into those. Man in the Middle sung by Maurice, Massachusetts by Robin,
At last !... Robin gets a moment ! I've been willing you to play a song with Robin's voice featuring. They really compliment each other in this. Try 'Saved by the Bell" it's an oldie but highlights the strength and sensitivity in Robin's voice. In the early days, Robin used to sing more of the lead !
When they first returned to the UK in 1967 quite a few magazines called him the lead singer.
Robin's voice always get to me. "Love me" will always be my fav Bee Gees song. Thanks for all the Bee Gees reactions! Keep up the good work! 👍
Robin sang lead on many Bee Gees 'pre disco' hits in the 60's .
It has been said before but doesn't hurt to say it again. The Bee Gees were/are a super group. Their voices and the fabulous songs they wrote are truly amazing and will never be duplicated. I agree with you Jay, we love the Bee Gees and it doesn't matter what they sing.
The Bee Gees! This is great! Thank you again, Jay & Amber…love this! 👍♥️🌹♥️
amazing ! 🔥
Guys , please check out Kennedy Center Honors, which aired Dec 27th on CBS, Barry and Dionne Warwick were two of the five recipients .....it was deeply moviing!!
There is so much more to the brothers than disco. Going back to their early work shows how amazing they are at adapting to the music of the times.
You should play their early 1967/1968 hits like 1. "Massachesetts"(1967), 2. "Holiday"(1967), 3. "To Love Somebody"(1967), 4. "I Started A Joke"(1968)....you won't be let down.
Pre disco 1972, “Run to Me” one of their most beautiful songs with gorgeous harmonies!
You should see the homage done by the kennedy center honors, Barry Gibb was one of the honorees 😍
For sure one of my favorites… Robin is on a whole new level here.
A lesser-known fact about the Bee Gees' "For Whom the Bell Tolls" is that it was inspired by the classic novel of the same name written by Ernest Hemingway. The song, featured on their 1993 album "Size Isn't Everything," showcases the band's ability to draw inspiration from diverse literary sources, adding a unique dimension to their musical creativity.
Glad you did this. If not mistaken this is about their brother Andy that passed away at a young age. Listen to the words closely. His picture was on a magazine,, ect, ect. How they miss him.
There's something very special about the voice of Robin Gibb. It's like: OK, you've heard Barry ... Now listen to this -- this Robin!
I've never heard this one. Very nice. Love Robin in this one, the most
If you want pure R & B from the Bee Gees then the 90's track "Bodyguard" will leave you Breathless .... Robin takes the lead vocal and makes it his own .... It's just superb ❤️
Although Barry did much of the lead vocal work during the Disco era, Robin did the lead vocals on a lot of their '60s recordings.
You should hear Robin singing I Can't See Nobody (young Robin),And The Sun Will Shine, and Mr Natural.
Juliet.
My World.
Lol. I could go on and on. They're all priceless.
There is so much Bee Gees to explore! The 90' yes, but I do think you still have not got much into their 60' or Robins voice would not have been such a surprise. ☺
Remember Barry saying the lyrics in that song were about Andy Gibb .... The Bee Gees are the best Ballad writers of all time .... They are simply untouchable .... One hidden track that's an absolute gem is "Bodyguard" off the One album .... It's pure Soul ! Robin's vocals are wonderful ... You'll love it !
Robin sings lead on "Massachusetts" and "I started a Joke", these were released in the 60's . I have always loved Robin's voice, he has a very unique and naturally fast vibrato.
This entire album is amazing. Blue Island, Paying the Price of Love…… Every song is stellar.
It is awesome! One of my favorite of their albums.
Actually Barry's natural voice is lower than Robin's. Even though Barry's falsetto is featured mainly on the songs, Robin did do one song using his falsetto. It's called Living Together. Check it out. Also a fun fact, Robin may not use is falsetto, Robin can access 5 total octaves. Barry can only hit 3. And one more thing both Barry and Maurice both said Robin's voice was the best of them all. And that was coming from them
Think they were just being kind....as Robin flourished more when praised by others, including his own brothers.
@@kthornegativity again? You just can't leave any praise for him alone.
@@kthor - Barry didn't like praise? Good grief! Everyone likes praise and RESPECT. What in hell does that have to do with octave range? Being kind my butt. You don't know what the word means.
@@kthorRobin’s falsetto is way more appealing than Barry’s overused worn out one. This song would’ve been 10x more incredible without the screeching but Rob helps out during his bits making it sound amazing as he usually does.
Please please please do The Bee Gees on The Midnight Special doing a medley of Beatles songs. You will be blown away. It’s all acoustic with just Barry and Mo on guitar and the 3 of them singing.
Gonna check that out...
Barry got a Kennedy center honors yesterday. So moving. He misses his brothers. So many people love the Bee Gees
Every Song by the Bee Gees is a surprice. I love it ❤❤❤
Speaking of covers, you should check out the Bee-Gees 'I Started A Joke' and then do Faith No More's cover.
Their 60s hits are spectacular and Robin is often the lead singer. He also had an extensive solo career in the 1980s mostly in Europe. Try Holiday and NY Mining Disaster and I Started a Joke and I've Got to Get a Message to You. For solos later on, Juliet and Tokyo Nights are excellent. There are good live versions, too.
During his 80's solo career, all songs were still written with his brothers.
@@kthor - Be specific. In the 80's Maurice and Robin wrote some like Juliet" (#1 in several countries) and all three wrote some of the others. In '69/'70 Robin wrote alone. Some songs like "Saved by the bell" which was a hit, and others like "Engines Aeroplanes", "August October", "C'est la vie aux revoir", &c were solely written by him and nice songs. At 15 he wrote SOLO "I am the world" and "I don't know why I bother with myself". His beautiful work on 50 St Catherines Drive had nothing to do with either brother nor did the Titanic Requiem. Barry also wrote with others like Richardson and Galuten so not always solo either. Mo wrote some with his brother in law Billy Lawrie. Your point other than being Ms Negativity?
@@susieq9801Stop trolling me! Be specific? I was responding to the authors comment, that Juliet & Tokyo Nights weren't necessarily solo work. And his "extensive 80's solo career" was written with one or both brothers.
@@kthor - But you weren't specific either by saying brothers...plural.
One of my favorite songs by the Bee Gees! 🤗 Ya know, a few years ago their kids covered a bunch of their songs. It was great. Just search "Please Don't Turn Out the Lights" by the Gibb Collective and give it a listen. 👍
Speaking of Andy, he was supposed to join the group for their album “One”, but passed away just weeks after it was announced. They still recorded the album and had a few hits from it including the title track. You would also love their song “You Win Again “!
I love One and You Win Again! Also Alone!
Great suggestions, but YOU WIN AGAIN is from their E.S.P. album.🎼
Robin was always my favorite 😍
Amber, you would love their 2001 song, "Wedding Day!" It has a similar, more contemporary vibe. It's soooooooo beautiful and you get to hear both Barry and Robin again.
Wish You Were Here is so beautiful too. Written with Andy in mind 💔
Robin has the best voice of all! Outstanding. Great catch Amber!! Be sure to check out "Massachusetts", he sings lead.
Robin had a distinctive vibrato voice.
I love Robin singing lead, in fact he sings lead on all my favorite BeeGees songs from the 60s and on.
Beautiful song. Bee Gees don't do bad songs❤
Absolutely 💯 love this song. Robins voice is wonderful. This song (like most of Bee Gees ballads) chokes me up. Just beautiful. ❤🎶🎙️🎼
This is "live" btw.
A tribute to their kid brother Andy, who'd died in 1988 shortly after the 4 brothers decided Andy would finally join the group, as well as their dad Hugh Gibb, who died in 1992.
So glad you did this one! You should do a deep dive on The Bee Gees 60s/early 70s music. A lot of it features Robin more prominently, so Amber will love it. “I Started a Joke” is all Robin, and his most iconic performance. “I’ve Gotta Get a Message to You,” “Massachusetts,” “To Love Somebody,” and “New York Mining Disaster” are more of their biggest hits from that era. The 80s and 90s Bee Gees are also fabulous. Check out “One,” “ESP,” “Bodyguard,” “Paying the Price of Love,” “Still Waters,” “I Surrender,” “This is Just Where I Came In,” “Haunted House.”
for Robin.. his signature song is I Started A Joke... check it out !!!!
60’s BeeGees. “To Love Somebody”. Class!!
The cool thing about àll 3 brotherss. They have different voice sounds. When singing harmony they changed their voices to match each other.
This has to be my favourite BEE GEES song ❗️
Just 💛 Amazing
Always happy to see a BeeGees reaction! Such a fantastic song! And agreed, Robin does have an amazing voice that often gets overlooked next to Barry's heavenly falsetto! 😊😍
