- It's been a few years since we've received a new Pokemon Mystery Dungeon title, so why not dust off an old one and call it good, right?

I wish this amount of criticism was leveled at Pokemon Sword and Shield.
If the lazy shilling fan didn't make excuses for everything
But there was? There's more reviews than IGN.
theotherky being that he commented on a NintendoLife review, I’m sure he knows lol.
I love Pokemon but it's gotta be tough love. Although I wish for it to be the best game ever; the game has a surplus of flaws that I don't even know if they can be fixed with a simple patch.
@@pappi8338 It's possible that a good amount of the issues that have existed in multiple games are inherently part of the series' design limitations.
huh, i never realized how patient i was when i was a child, (i mean even now too lol), never got bored of the dungeons, and never really considered them as tedious, maybe its the anxiety in me and the thought of dying in a dungeon at any given moment that kept it entertaining for me lol so i was never relaxed while playing through the postgame dungeons lmao,, gotta love anxiety
Same. Especially when I was hunting Mew and my partner would fall through the pit fall trap and I'd be left alone
@@misomie oof ikr,, cant wait to relive the horrors on the remake lmao
@@kaiiizen8626 Same. Freaking Magma Cavern killed my team on like 3rd floor. X'D
It let me play as my third but huuuge wake up call
@@misomie once the game introduces you to 40+ floor dungeons with no save points halfway, you cant casually play the game anymore lmao, but tbh even the story dungeons give me anxiety lol
*flashbacks to my back to back sky tower monster houses*
Felipe Reblora my god yes, sky tower was scary as hell. I never used “b” in that dungeon, slowly step by step. Those damn salamence, venomoth and monster houses
I imagine nostalgia will be a big factor, especially for people like me who played this for hundreds of hours on the DS.
Honestly, i can't see the game getting a lot of new players. But I'm sure people who have already played a part of the series will love it
Bitchyougottrolled that’s because you can’t do anything at all
Never played the DS version, grew up on GBA and it's still my fav lol
@@samerkia I mean you cant really say that you'll know you will enjoy this more of you've never actually played ac before AC is a game you cant watch ppl play you have to play it yourself , i say but Animal crossing first for a new experience then buy mystery dungeon later since it's a remake
AZTenor94 this is my first in the series and I LOVE IT
These games main focus has always been story and music that amplifies the experience. Game-play isn't my favorite thing but I do enjoy playing as a pokemon. Making a large team to handle every situation isnt really the focus of this game and you will do a lot better just using a party of 3 in my own opinion.
I abused the gummi system and just amped myself up. Literally was running the post game with just Charizard. Hopefully you can do the same in this game. 😂😂
@@ormod9558 you can, altough gummis are a lot harder to come by in this game
Why isn’t Magnemite talking in Caps Loooock.... I need the feets line in CAPS
While I say that the main story can be pretty satisfying for some players, the postgame is where most of my enjoyment comes for me with these games. It is at that point where you really get to build your favourite team and befriend other pokemons. Most of the challenging dungeons are here as well, which can really test your skill and knowledge (looking at you level 1 and 100 floor dungeons).
but in explorers of sky you play really for the amazing story and stay for the postgame
@@hugofernandes2347 true(especially the grovyle post game story that addition is just 👌)
@@hugofernandes2347 while the rescue team games have always been my personal favorites (nostalgia), i'd be hard pressed to disagree. explorers of sky was an absolute masterpiece, and i hope they consider remaking it as well in the future.
@@tml- really hoping too, i completed the game twice, once when i was a kid and now as an adult
Just finished my 4th playthrough of main story sky. Still cried at the credits. I personally hope they don't remake it because of the possibility of harming an already perfect game.
I feel like Explorers of Sky really improved upon these and Explorers of Darkness/Time. Story was phenomenal, all pokemon were recruit able with good missions to tackle in order to get them with the exception of Arceus. Soundtrack was amazing and a great cast of very unique pokemon as guild members. I really hope Explorers of sky gets a remake
Honestly explorers of sky is probably the best pokemon title(at least for the people who the mystery formula appeal to) It definitely needs a remake. Maybe they could even add more side stories after the grovyle one? Perhaps a side story that takes place later in Team Charm's career? Maybe a chatot story or a loudred one? Idk it would just be cool to see another one because that was the biggest addition to explorers of sky.
Jase.fos well said, in my opinion Explorers has a superior story and soundtrack, but I still love rescue team so much, Mainly for its similarity to explorers
I hope they do too, i have yet to play it. I didn't want to do an emulator and hard copies are 60 for used..
@@missdifficulty905 wait hard copies are 60 used now? damn I remember when they were in the 20s
@@syloui yeppp, even higher. Used is usually only cartridge and no case ):
I'll buy it. But they really REALLY need to stop messing with what the core game was like. Like don't take out friend areas, iq, standard attack etc. Keep as is and only add stuff.
friend areas haven really been removed but the decision to make it more stream-line (faster) is split in the community. Standard attack has been useless since Gates because they have instead added 'move level ups" that add pp and attack power/accuracy. Spike chunsoft has also aimed to make the games more item reliant instead of just attacking everything insight and overall that decision doesn't really bother me that much as I see that as an improvement. Not everyone is going to be ok with these changes but at the end of the day its still essentially the same game with new graphics.
@@justinarney3050 The game was good as is. No need to change what isn't broken. I talk for alot of people that the friend areas where the things we collected money for nothing else. It would have been so cool to see them remade in 3d. A missed chance.
Streamlining every game and making it simpler isn't what we all want. Sometimes people like a really really good challenge and to do so the game should've stayed at it's core like it was.
They only needed to add some new dungeons and bosses and boom perfect remaster!
I respect your opinion but i disagree brother!
@@justinarney3050 its not useless, I use them to bait enemy pokemon to walk forward to me.
@@nekotorin R+a now does the same thing but its just a Whiff that does no damage to make a turn go by and find traps.
@@justinarney3050 wow, well thats nice to hear then.
It definitely is a game that appeals to a certain kind of person, it’s too bad the reviewer didn’t like it. For me what makes the core series so fun is the story/music/art style. I was disappointed that it wasn’t mentioned as it’s such a big part of the what makes these games so special. The game mechanics are very unique and that makes up for the lack of polish for me. I will definitely be picking this game up on Friday!
I cried when i play the gba version but i do not like the art is to real i like the 2d in the gba the memories love it
Lanesras Ex I’m with you I love the pixel art from the old games
@@kaelynnkreates thank the memories
Aye I feel the same way
Me too cant wait so hyped!!!
I will buy everything mystery dungeon
A man of culture I see
Fr fr bro especially if it's on the switch
Zero 4 I still have the game boy versions, all DS/3DS versions. Surprised they still work. I play them till this day. Now I have another one to add to my switch? Heck yeah. There is repetition in good and bad ways. These games are done in a good way when it comes to repetitiveness.
EEVEE TRAINER I am super hyped for this game and I would watch the videos of rumors of a switch mystery dungeon and here we are.
@@raf686 I'm super hyped too who knows you might be rescuing me in a dungeon online lol
There will be tears if Explorers DX ever gets released
I honestly just want this game to do well enough so will get a new one or a remake of Explorers. Rescue team is alright but it was really just the "lets see if people if like this idea" type of game with it being the first one.
Explorers they HAVE to keep the A button attack in Explorers, as it was part of freeing you from being tied-up scene. Grovyle said himself you can't use a Move to escape it.
I hope they bring back the pixel sprites for the Explorers remake, as those sprites have a charm that these 3D ones don't
@@cpnYarhar i wouldn't tweak it, the fact that the character's actually reference the game mechanics gives the whole game a bit more continuity. Kind of like how Mother 3 would treat game mechanics as in-universe tidbits
I'd love for them to do a whole new game with this art style. It is SOOO BEAUTIFUL.
I'm definitely the type of person this appeals to. And as much as the term "Rogue-like" gets thrown around, surprised it wasn't mentioned here since the Mystery Dungeon games are *true* Rogue-likes. My first game of this style was Nightmare of Druaga on the PS2, and I've loved them ever since.
Same.
Hell, my husband is a huge rogue-like fan, he plays Adom, and says this is one of this most rogue-like games around! How could they not label it as such?
Rescue Team let me discover the MD series later on in 2009 with Shiren the Wanderer (the DS remake) and Explorers of Sky.
It’s truly a great franchise, even the Dragon Quest crossover (where it all started) are great games to play imo.
@Bob Wow it has more rogue elements than anything else! The hunger meter, the PP for moves (magic in rogue), and tile movement, to turn based combat, the random dungeons, and the loss of all items upon death! Rogue has many more elements than just perma-death and rng dungeons.
I know it looks a lot like the game Rogue, but it's not a rogue-like, the term is dungeon crawler instead.
It seems like the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon series will always be doomed to be reviewed by people who don't like these type of games. For me it would've made more sense for someone who has played the original to how the remake stacks up with the original. My guess would be the original would be preferred over the remake.
That's always the case though. Nostalgia is a powerful thing.
The original was a bad game to remake. The story is really what makes mystery dungeon so great, and they chose the game with the least interesting story. If they remade explorers, i think it would be very different. Thats a game that could easily get people into the series.
I completely agree with you. Blue rescue team is my favorite entry in the series (I have them all) and I keep trying to figure out how the remake compares to the original, yet none of these reviewers even follow PMD.
"I've never really played PMD. Don't really know how to play quiet yet. Didn't finish the story or anything. Wasn't a big fan."
Yeesh, give the game to someone with some passion to review. Give it to someone who knows the history of the series and can tell others how it has evolved over the years.
Super had a better story than Rescue. Super wasnt bad lmao
@@otio3019 I liked Super for its story... but gameplay was the issue i had with the game.
I love this game, the original one, but it's just like you said, if there isn't much new from what I've played 15 years ago then I just can't bring myself to pay a full $60 price for it. I really hoped that they would make a new vastly improved one for the switch but well I guess I'm glad that the series ain't dead yet and truly hope it continues with it's best title yet in the future.
same here.
It'll be tough to top explorers of sky but they are more than welcome to surprise me
@@TrickyTalon23 Super topped Explorers of Sky, but I'm guessing you haven't played it because of the Gates to Infinity stink that latched on to it.
@@yuuhyakuya3863 super was bad....no pokemon game have came close to explorers of the sky
@@iransilva5857 Super had an equal level in story, a fun cast, better gameplay, and more interesting dungeons to go through. And recruitment was pretty fun and not completely random.
An absolute classic dungeon crawler game imo and I love the new art style so much. This is a very faithful recreation of the GBA game.
I only ever played the DS version except for one day I was sick at my cousins house and they had a GBA so when they were at school I went into their stuff and I played through the main story. How does the GBA version compare to the DS?
@@nanoff815 I'm pretty sure that they're practically the same with the exception of a few different pokemon appearing in each but not entirely sure
I like the review and the presentation of it. Just one thing really bothered me: the criticism of the team size.
It’s meant to be a disadvantage/challenge to move around with so many Pokémon and not a flaw of the game. It’s meant to discourage this kind of gameplay, while fixing the recruitment site problem the originals had.
I can get how people can view dungeon crawling as tedious, but for some reason, I never did. Maybe because I love the feeling of completing a dungeon, I loved what rewards it gave. Plus, I love how random everything is. Nothing is the same in Mystery Dungeon, you either have good luck or terrible luck. And that's awesome!
I just beat the main story with Treecko as a Hero and Skitty as a Partner, and now I'm in deep thought on what to do forward, because the post game is tough as nails!
2:58 - I appreciate your joke Zion. Made me smile :D
He also said pee pee
@@imwahyou2 No, he said PP, a measure of how many times a move can be used till the Pokemon doesn't have the energy to use that move anymore. Sounds like you never played a Pokemon game.
@@zigazav1 sounds like you don't know what a joke is dumbfuck.
Tomo Saki it was a joke
Hmm, while 6/10 is kinda low, I appreciate it more than if it had gotten a 8/10. This score comes across as more honest, and I like that.
Spikà yeah it’s the first 6/10 I’m okay with
I love the series granted I do agree it is not for everyone I have a blast with these games I love that you are a Pokémon I love the stories I love the characters and just the world and I'm a massive fan of rouge likes and I've been don't ever get bored with these types of games but yeah I do understand why people wouldn't be that into them but as for me this looks pretty awesome and I'm hyped X3
same.. i love the fact every piece of it is randomized aswell. it's why i fell in love with the mystery dungeon games as a kid and love games like the binding of isaac still to this day.. the random chance of getting certain items or encounters is just something i love
If you haven’t try this yet. Im telling you shiny hunting is so fun in this game i got 2 today a dragonite and a espeon i love it.
my 10 year old cousin is so excited for it, it will be his 1st time playing and my 1st time playing it together with him! I hope its gonna be a great experience!
How is he liking it??
The neutral move being removed was kind of a bummer, because when lvl 20 going up against Thunderwave Cave, it gets kind of overkill and you really feel like you're wasting moves. Also, randomly clicking A suddenly DOES waste a movie and not wanting the foe to get the first turn when only one tile apart with no distanced moves, that's the THIRD option where a move is wasted when it didn't have to be with a little tweaking on the devs' side.
I think the biggest mistake they made in this remake, was not including actual friend areas. It's just an image depicting what kind of environment is present and the pokemon come up as little images. Huuuge disappointment!
If its like the original then long dungeons really don't pop up until the post game so you really don't have to worry about being stuck in dungeons forever until after the main story which is about 20 hours long.
Yeah, and doing multiple missions in the same dungeon in a single ingame day multiple times actually makes the postgame content come closer faster.
Pre-ordered it a bit back, and I just can’t wait to play it! May end up going to bed extra early on Thursday night just to wake up refreshed at midnight for when it goes live 😂
I played the crap out of Chocobo mystery dungeon and now im going to do it all again with this one and no one can stop me muwahahaha
It is your first time with this game? The story is incredible and I hope you have an awesome time with it.
hallo oma, wist niet dat u hier was
@@sirradez Omg, hahaha. Ik lees nu pas de naam xD
If you want a big, fun story, try Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon. It was the game before this and it's amazing. It's on the 3ds and ~45 euro. It's really worth it, idk about DX though
Finally, someone else who's played Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon. Underrated gem.
I really hope explorers of sky gets a remake cuz that had a great story and really charming characters
I played Red Rescue on GBA & I'm going to buy it eventually, but wasn't this game like $39.99 on the Eshop for a while? I thought so until I saw it for $59.99, which in my opinion is a but much for this game.
Always been $59.99 since the day it appeared on the eShop.
In that case sword and shield should be $10 since mystery dungeon is better
@Mike UK As is SwSh. SwSh should had been cheaper, it's not worth 60 bucks for what you get in it.
@@zigazav1 yeah. I think the 40 dollar range would suit SWSH better. But ultimately its Nintendo's call on how mich they charge for a product
George Moslener for me it says £49.99
Maybe wigglytuff is a tease for a explorers of Sky remake? 🤔
Long live the guildmaster! YOOMTAHHH!!!
The guild master was an absolute beast lmao, I love how the whole game you only see glimpses of wigglytuffs full power lmao
Wigglytuff was the Friend Area seller in the original game. They're different Wigglytuff too, with the the shopkeeper being female and the Guildmaster being male.
@@tylerrobertson2178 and then you fight him in the postgame and he's stronger than dialga
Nah mate, Wigglytuff was in the original.
@@noelnotcole7940 That's not Wigglytuff, it's the Grandmaster of All Things Bad! ;)
I hope Explorers Of Time, Darkness & Sky get remakes.
I’m Not Actually Watching The Review This Game Is A 10/10
I wish the animations were better personally, everything feels incredibly stiff. The old sprites, despite only being sprites, conveyed so much more emotion.
Probably pass until PMD2.
Rattiom well don’t expect them to improve the animations in a potential pmd2 remake they will just use the same engine as the one used on pmd dx. And if many people don’t pick up the game because they dislike the animation quality. Pmd is a game that depicts story, how the game looks doesn’t matter because it has an amazing story to back it up. If everyone decides not to get it because they dislike the animations then there won’t be a pmd2 game because it won’t profit
>Probably pass until PMD2
idk if they will remake it if this remake doesn't do well
@@rattiom Well that's Pokemon for you lol. They always remake the first game and go from there
@@rattiom Agreed.
@@RikN so buy a game that they don't enjoy the style simply in the hopes of getting a 2nd one? That's dumn
I never did play the original back in 06 because I was so engrossed in emerald might pick it up friday
The original is better and harder. And Explorers is harder than that because traps are in almost every dungeon.
@@zigazav1 Not necessarily harder, this remake will require much better item management due to the removal of basic attack, new missions and random events like outlaws will make it harder. Also enemy AI is significantly better now, enemies will move together, attack together, etc.
Tum Tum The postgame dungeons stop displaying items and enemies unless they’re in the same room just like in the original.
@Tum Tum That's only in the beginner dungeons with the map. And it was always really dumb that just because my retarded partner died that I had to start all over. I don't think they're making the game "easier," just more competent.
6/10 for one of the most engrossing storylines ever in pokemon?
I legit remember as a kid crying at the ending 😂
Still i have over 45 hours invested already on this gorgeous new title
Jacob Dawson I feel like they just copies ign’s review

The only mystery dungeon game worth 60$ is Explorers of Sky. This game should have been 40-ish bucks.
Yeah but those big 90 floor dungeons are post game stuff? Also a 6/10?
I think a 6/10 is a fitting score. People just got used to thinking that anything below a 7 is a bad game. Still, this game is probably one of those that show a 1-10 scale is not a good way to rate games
@@familiarbit5319 better to use 1-5 or standard school system
@@novahavinskiy770 That's even worse. Depending on how you were raised, a 3 or a C can also be considered as a bad grade.

I love Pokemon but I won’t pay the $60 price tag because I’ve already played it before. I might get it when it’s on sale one day.
Plus Animal Crossing New Horizons comes out very soon. It will eventually have 500+ hours of content, after the finish the game with the free holiday DLC.
Why you saying 60 its 50?
Gonna wait i guess, played it a lot . Perhaps a buy on sale
When I played this game, oh man..befriending those legendary Pokemon was a big task and nerve-wrecking .
I wonder if we'll get Explorers DX which is based on Time, Darkness and Sky.
i enjoy this game, i just wish it were easier to use a joystick as sometimes my character doesn't respond to it, even though the joystick works perfectly in other games
How's the wonder mail gonna work? Can I use a generator like the old days to get the rewards that I want?
I am really liking it so far, but there’s a little bit of things I don’t like like the ability to recruit Pokémon you don’t have friend areas for forcing you not to get that Pokémon since no one has a wigglytuff orb or the money to buy one, and I miss the old friend areas. It’s a pretty fun game I love it so far :) was a great purchase
I find this review very accurate. As a kid i had a lot of patience for this stuff, but as an adult I really hate the gameplay of pokemon mystery dungeon. I can't make myself play them anymore they just make me mad. They're tedious, they have traps that punish you for things that aren't your fault, and even with the changes the games aren't user friendly at all. The story is the only selling point I can recommend to anyone who hasn't played.
Simply put the people who loved this game originally will love this even more.
If you hated this game originally you’ll hate it more now.
do not say auto mode defeats the purpose of dungeon exploring... All roguelikes spun from rogue/nethack have this feature practically, and this is a very rogue-like dungeon system, so therefore auto-explode/auto-mode is a must and it's crazy it took them this long to add, auto-buy cuz of that.
Yeah, why would Auto-Mode be a valid reason to dislike this game? "All the rooms are the same and Auto-Mode confirms this", I swear all reviewers who hate this kind of game say that.
This series is great! I put over 800 hours into Red Rescue Team
This melody is now stuck in my head.
I never played the original rescue team games (only explorers) so the story and game was new to me. Obviously I know I already really enjoyed the Explorers titleso I was excited for this one.
Personally I really enjoyed the game. The story wasn't amazing, I much prefer the Explorers story, but it was fun and the art is really nice. I've now started post game a bit and I'm actually excited to keep playing because there is so much to do.
I feel like the main story finished really early, as I was only up to D and C rank dungeons when I got the credits. But that just means there's so much left to do! More missions, more dungeons, more quests.
If you don't like this style of game, I wouldn't recommend it because most of the gameplay outside of story stuff will be very similar. But if you liked any of the mystery dungeon games, I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy this one.
I was losing my mind when this was announced and now that it’s out I don’t ever see anyone play it LIKE HOW THIS IS A GOD TIER GAME
I'm buying it tomorrow. If they release DLC, I'll instantly buy it. I LOVE PMD!
Are the 80+ floor dungeons post-game? I don't remember the dungeons being long when I beat the game as a kid, granted all I did was beat the story and then evolve my Pokémon. I didn't do much after because I had the game stolen from me from some kid back In school.
I can't wait to play this.
Same.
It’s amazing
Dang yall were brutal on this game... whoever played it for the review must have the patience of a toddler.
GameXplain was kinda the same way.
@@e1iteyoshi998 tbh its really stupid cuz u just KNOW they are gonna give Animal Crossing a 10/10 cuz they are actually excited for that game...
Truth be told, none of the Mystery Dungeon games have ever gotten a fully positive review from a critic. It’s always been a like or hate series, with most reviews always falling on the average side. Those who love the MD games will truly love it and review it higher. The Explorers games got scores among with 5 or 6 lines with some going below as a 2, yet those who play the series consider them 9s and 10s and very rarely have I seen a negative review from that side. Being a fan of the series, I’ll likely give this an 8 or higher since I absolutely love these games, so it’s all down to how the person likes these kind of dungeon games
@@chaoszero11 I'd rate it an 8 as well, and give Gates a 6 or 7 simply because Gates only has it engaging cutscenes pulling it through.
I just hope that anyone who looks up these reviews also scrolls through the comments for a broader viewpoint.
For every long lived Pokemon title such as Pokemon dash.... POKEMON DASH was an abysmal game it was terrible, Pokemon MD is much more of a proper Pokemon spin off done right
I didn't mind Pokémon Dash. I love Mystery Dungeon.
Mister thief what’s pokemon dash it sounds horrible

I was going to get this but think I might wait now for it to go on sale...still want to play it but I can wait a bit!
I can’t wait lol I’m buying it when it comes out, Pokémon games usually never go on sale so it’s going to be a long wait
I loved the game, the only problem i'm having is that the story is too fast paced. Why not wait a few in-game days until the next main mission triggers? I beat the game in less than a week because it was so fast. Or maybe im just used to Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky
If the combat was like the Pokemon Tournament game, I’d definitely get this.
It sure would be great , like if Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX gets the ability to craft a lot of stuff.
maybe will hold on for a sale "if it ever" but full price for this is not my jam. not criticising it or anything. I beat this game back then and paying full for a remake that keeps the core intact seems much to me, besides animal crossing NH is just around the corner and I want to get that and doom eternal instead.
Tum Tum Same!
Back when I was 10 my parents bought me a 2ds with pokemon super mystery with it. At first I was like pff what a boring game I hope they could bought me pokemon x but after some gameplay I fell in love with the game and when I finished it I was very sad that this was the end I waited with patience for 3 years. And now that I'm almost 14 in the 2rd grade of middle school they made a remake I was over the moon when I heard this and I searched for so many reviews on the internet. And now thanks too your awesome review i'm sure I'm gonna buy this game and feel the same nostalgia 3 years ago
Half the reason i buy these amazing games are the incredible music
Ouch, I thought it would make at least a 7. You never mention how it does at recreating red/blue? I never played those games, so it’s confusing to hear it mentioned once, but never revisited to clarify how two games can be remade into one game. Are there two campaigns to play through?
There's one campaign, but it's split into pre- and post-game. Post-game is where all the 99 floor Dungeons come in.
red was released on gba and blue was released on ds
they were the same but on different consoles
Is this good, story-wise? I just played Gates of Infinity and I love that one (Well, it's my first).
Never played Gates, but from what I've heard it was the worst installment in this series. It also performed the worst. If you loved that one, you're sure to love... literally any other one, so yes DX will be great for you.
This review completely ignored the great story and music in this game which is literally the main selling point.
@@InvisibleTacoMan Guess NL didn't want to spoil it for people like me who never played the rest.
Well, the ending for Gates had me crying. It's rare for a game, let alone Pokemon, to make me cry like that. : )
I'm late because I just recently played and beat this. I give it a solid 7/10 Just because I know it could have been better. But playing as a Blaziken during the post game has been quite nice. Never played Explorers of Sky but I hope they remake it
This review makes me want it even more.
I cried when I played this when I was a younger. My Charizard was named Rex.
I never go to play the original rescue teams ones so it's worth it to me. :> My first one was the super mystery dungeon and then the one prior. Forgot its name. I really really want the explorers series too. Missed it as well. Particularly the darkness one due to reasons XD
I can’t help but notice you can see enemy and item locations from anywhere on the floor. It used to be you could only see what was in your current room unless you had an item for that purpose.
They haven’t just streamlined it, they’ve made it easier.
I think this doesn't make thing much easier (as for mr)
It's a weather effect. Items with scanner/radar effects are still in the game. It's likely only the early dungeons have this new weather effect.
@@lunaticker6842 Post-Game dungeons don't have all items and enemies on the map.
Ive always loved the dungeon games. But that $60 price is what killed me about buying it. But it definitely was nice having this game again
Until we get a nintendo direct i probably gonna hold off til animal crossing and cross my fingers that game is a lot better for switch I'm not saying i won't get this game just it might be a wait til Bday christmas or a sale type of thing then grab this game the moment 1 of those 3 scenarios happen.
I love Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. I love the story concept of exploring a different world inhabited only by Pokemon and becoming a Pokemon yourself.
I don't understand. You don't like this game but you gave the unfinished buggy mess that is Sword/Shield a perfect score. 🤷🏻♂️

My point stands.
I don't see any proof that the games WEREN'T buggy from your end. It takes two to tango, buddy. Nut up or shut up.
Sure, the games got patched eventually, but missing Pokémon AND glitches along with unfinished graphics on release aren't a good way to thank fans for making the franchise the most profitable in history.
Unfortunately, yes. As soon as I entered the Wild area, I saw a flying onix. I took a step forward and it popped straight down half way through the ground and started spinning at ridiculous speed. I turned the game off.
Didn't cause anything bad? Oh yes it did. It caused me to realize I wasted my money on an unfinished broken game, and that I've spent way too long trying to argue about it with you for some reason. Bye!
Though this is not my genre, can they remaster Pokemon conquest I think with people loving fire emblem that it would do well
they should just make a new conquest tbh the original was kinda underwhelming but they could develop it more with a new entry
9.5/10 game
Though not perfect, it's honestly an amazing game that I really never got bored of. Can't say the same about Sword & Shield.
I think that the price they’re asking for will cause it to do badly, which is a shame because I’d love to see a revival of mystery dungeon
It's at #2 best sellers in the eShop rn (only behind Animal Crossing) and it's the #1 best selling game in the UK, and they said it's sold 40% *more in it's debut week than Super did.
is Tactics and IQ stil exist?
Reviewer makes a good point about the auto explore mechanic. If you've added that then that says the dungeon exploring part of the game isn't very fun. A game has to be fun, you can have the best art, music and story but if the core game isn't fun then it's not really a good game. Look at death stranding, music and graphics are good but to get to the supposedly good story, you have to play through some extremely boring core gameplay.
This is supposed to be a remake of the original, looks like they focused the remake mostly on the art style but not making the actual dungeon crawling less boring.
I've never played the og pmd games but I've played and finished other games very similar to this. Digimon world 2 and chocobos dungeon 2 back on ps1. Digimon was slow af but there were a lot of digimon to get and it was hard. Same for chocobo, plays very similar to pmd. Challenging but again repetitive. I can be a fan of these game because final fantasy and digimon but that doesnt make them good games for others because of the core gameplay
Dungeon crawling games have their place, enter the gungeon and binding of isaac for example have improved the genre, but newcomers to these early games aren't gonna have fun just because of a pokemon/digimon/final fantasy skin slapped on it
Man this game is so much fun. I played the original red team rescue version when I Was a kid but I didn't play much of it because I was really bad at games LOL. I didn't get what I was doing but finding out that this game is on Switch. I have to add this in my pokemon Collection. Im getting sick with these lame stories like SV and it just doesn't feel the same as playing BDSP or Heart Gold/Soul Silver and my other favourite Emerald. I do like SV DLC that was a game changer. But I am looking for a game to kill my time while waiting for Indigo Disk, hoping for better story. This game Is so interesting to me right now, playing the Demo and just wanting to live in its world is fantastic. I wish Pokemon had games like this more and keep it Isometric. It makes the pokemons look better with more cleaner lines and more colour poppy artworks. Great Game Going to purchase this! XD
I enjoyed the original but felt some of the boss battles had a steep difficulty curve, so you had to grind in between which I never appreciate. I would have considered buying this remake if not for the ridiculous price! $80 CAD ($90 with taxes) for a GBA game? I still have the cartridge for the original and it wasn't that much when I first bought it. The only way I'm buying this is if it goes on a super sale.
You never had to grind. Never grinded a single time even when I was 5 years old.
I like the original game and the way it worked. Explorer's of time/darkness/sky was a great improvement but red/blue is still thoroughly enjoyable for me.
This remake is just inferior to the original version to me. I liked having a generic nameless attack. It ensured you could hit everything, and grind for exp effectively - and in tough dungeons, you'd end up weighing how much you valued exp versus getting through faster or not fainting.
I don't like being able to buy friendship areas (that you cant even run around anymore) in the middle of dungeon. Again, it just removed the pre-planning aspect of the dungeons and lets you do it on the fly. Finding something I couldn't recruit but wanted to before just made me think 'i'll come back for that' but now it doesn't really matter with the team size and the orb. It's incorporated the things from the newer games I just didn't like, and made the game overall easier. I spent hours trying to just get down to Groudon. It was frustrating but so very rewarding to complete it. I preferred the pre-planning and small teams which made you pick carefully what you wanted and could handle.
I don't even like being able to swap leader at any point. The first time I was able to do that, that was a reward in post-game select dungeons. I'd completed the game, and then it gave you the freedom to play with your team in some areas. I think this could've been improved by allowing you to change your team leader at any point post-game in non-story dungeons, but not just any time in any dungeon. Partly because it lets you just abuse the belly of every team member which makes the game, consequently, easier.
Automode is obviously just covering up symptoms - not that you even needed auto-search. It was easy enough to change the tactics of your team and split up to go search - trading some vulnerability to be able to cover more ground faster.
To be very frank, I think the new release is inferior to the original. In trying to streamline the game, they've minimised the need for planning and preparation, as well as wittled away at the replay value. I don't think they've really modernised the game at all, which is what I was hoping for. They've just eroded the parts of the game that added any challenge.
How did you get this being the seventh game in the series?
Counting sets as one, then this is the sixth, after the Rescue Team pair, the Explorers trio, the Adventure Squad trio, Gates to Infinity, and Super.
Counting every single game, that makes this the 11th.
Counting every single game that released in the US, this is the 8th.
Counting just the sets that released in the US, this is the fifth.
So, from all methods of counting them I could think of, there are 5, 6, 8, or 11.
Where did the number 7 come from?
Not counting any spin-offs of the spin-offs
@@leonardofarias8843 thanks you explained nothing
@@slugmilk4063 Of the mystery dungeon series to be honest
i really hope we get an explorers remake too
Huh. I guess I am not as picky as other people. It may be a little repetitive sometimes but then it will surprise you. I think the plot is great
If this game didn’t take only 10 hours to beat, I would totally buy it
I want a Explorers of sky remake 😭
They’re dungeons with 80 or 90 floors?
Only the last few dungeons in the post game, they're completely optional.
I can't believe you said no to MUDKIP!
We need to form a rescue party for Alex because he is gone. Maybe make a RPG out of it.
I’ve never touched this sub-series myself but it is coming out at the perfect time to keep me occupied till Animal Crossing. Since progress transfers I’ll download the demo and if I like it enough I’ll pick it up.
I guess I'm biased as a huge fan of the series but i feel that it's loved by the pmd community and sort of glossed over by most other people.
Not sure how you can liken Pokkén Tournament to Pokémon Dash. Pokkén has held its own tournament at the World Championships since it was released. It's already had a DX version released and I'm very hopeful for a sequel. Definitely wouldn't call it "short lived".
Great review!! I’m not really a fan of the Pokémon spinoff games, so I think I’ll pass, but it was an awesome review.
I was so excited for this story to be revamped but honestly, while the style was interesting I really didn't it find it to be an improvement. spent almost 60$ on limited quality. I lovelovelove this series I just expected a bit more from it. idk.
Can they not take away the basic attack, reallllllyyyy...I really want to love this game but small things like that
Its been said before and it'll be said again:
PMD isnt for everyone, but the folks that like it, LOVE it
