- Here is my way of designing custom RV furniture. I find a template and cardboard mock-up helps to zero in on dimensions and aesthetic look of the piece. I design a forward facing seat for my Xplorer Camper Van.

It looks like you were inspired by Captain James T Kirk's chair on the bridge of the Enterprise. You should include some switches on the arms to announce a "red alert". Sulu would be jealous.
Hell yeah that lazy boy type thing is definitely an upgrade from the original seat.

Just got up and I see a Dodge camper van parked near us. I immediately thought of you and how much I enjoyed your videos. Checked to see if you have done anything recently and found this. It took me years, but I finally removed the passenger seat from my Class B RV. It is the third best upgrade I have done to it, after adding solar and a LiFePO4 battery bank. I could not build a cabinet due to the windows (I did not want to block the view), so I bought a HDX storage bin and fastened it using the 4 seat screws. So useful for adding a ton more storage space in my super small RV!!
Looks like a great plan. Kind of makes me wonder why these vans had never offered that seating as at least an option to begin with. Great for having a guest for cocktails on a rainy day. 👍

Cool project Steve 👍. You can add a seat belt, retractable cup holder from one of the arms. Retractable leg rest, gooseneck led light mounted on the rear back rest. Storage on all areas of the chair. 🚐👍😎🛋

Hi steve. I have a Lagun table which I haven’t installed as of yet in any of my rigs. Not as easy as it seems (altho fab functionality). You may want to buy that first and do your mocks up bf you start building.

Such a great idea! Since the arms are nice and wide, is there any way the folding table can be housed inside one of the arms? Much like those of the Japanese Shinkansen train. That would make the mechanism invisible, yet keep the table accessible. Just a thought. Thanks for the video.
That is similar to how chairs are in some university classrooms. They have a folding table that allows to write on, while folding at the side of the chair.

Love it! Being a person that loves to cook, how about a slide out pantry in one of those arms and maybe tech storage in the other? The entire arm could slide out or have shelves inside. Even a safe!

Steve, for the vertical arms consider making pockets tall and deep enough to store atlases, books, pillows, etc. with a bungee cord across each to keep thing contained.
Thank you for another great video. I feel like the Pleasure Ways Van's did a slightly better job with the front seating area. Both our front seats turn around and you can lean the driver's seat back some. Ours has the wet bath on the passenger side though. The extra passengers would be all the way in the rear. We only occasionally have a parent along to take her to a siblings home, so 99% of the time we don't need the extra seats. The Lagoon table would be more usable than the small posting mounted table we have though. I'm looking forward to your next video on the chair. I still prefer the SUVcamper, but my husband really likes to be able to stand up. Our parent likes the available restroom. Thank you for taking the time to produce these videos about the modifications you did on the van, before you sold it.

For me the standard dimensions never work. They dig into the back of my legs, etc, etc. I like a taller back. Personally I'd find the seat I think is most comfortable and base my dimensions off of it. In your chair, I'd round each arm slightly. The arm behind the driver's seat would be hollow for maps to allow the driver seat to lean back just in case. I'd make sure floor to seat height allows feet to touch the ground with the cushion. I'd also put a hinged padded piece of wood on the front. Then fashion a way to lift it for a built in recliner/ottoman no extra space needed. Couches are comfortable because the cushions are suspended and not directly on wood. I would cut the seat portion out. Install two pipes right and left. Then front and rear. Weave a new seat with upholstery elastic band and then put the cushion on that. Lagun table goes on the left so it can be used for kitchen counter. This could also function as a guest bed for shorty.
The chair looks great. Are you going to have storage access built in to it? The base and arms have lots of potential storage space.
did you have heater outlets under the 3rd seat, if so where did you put them?

That seems like an over engineered chair. A simple bench with a back (turn back cushion on its side) would be a lot less cutting of wood.
Put cabinet doors under your arm rests to store large baking pans 😁 or maybe portable solar panels?
