Been personally keeping and propagating orchids this way for about 10 years. I recently got into other plants and surprisingly it took me a LONG time to get soil right. Ultimately I ended up doing with them what I do with orchids but in passive hydro… Wildly successful for propagating pretty much all plants I have found.
I just bought a chonk that wasn’t particularly pricy so if I failed it wouldn’t hurt as bad me failing at a full grown plant. This perlite video is super helpful and I’m crossing my fingers that I can grow a queen anthurium! Thank you for posting this video!
Ugh thanks so much for this video girl! Serious question tho, a lot of people leave their Anthuriums in moss and just supplement the nutrients. Could you do the same with perlite?? 💕🌿
You can! I didn’t want to mention in this video but I’ve decided to keep them in perlite semi-hydroponically. I will make a video all about it once I finish experimenting lol 💚✨ I believe my how to video I’m putting out Sunday mentions this. So excited!
I don't know if I just missed this, but do you water the perlite when you first put the cutting in or just set it in water? I'm so excited to try this on a few of mine. Thank so much for sharing and I look forward to more 😊
So cool! I haven't tried the perlite method but after watching going to give it a try! It kind of reminds me of a combo between moss/bag and leca method
Thanks I think I'm going to love this method...doing this for two plants from oversees that have very small root systems and I would be devastated if they died...this seems like the smartest way to develop the plants either from stem cuttings or if they are just not ready to go in a substrate mixture..thanks..love seeing how Ela would do something !!
Hello! I just received 2 anthurium Regale from Ecuagenera with long stems and healthy roots all over and beautiful leaves! I’m tempted to cut and divide the stems for propagation. Is it advisable? Would appreciate your input. I’m learning a lot from your videos. Thanks for sharing.
I’m trying this with my boyfriend’s dying golden pothos. I pulled the long stem out of the soil. Pulled all the dead leaves off and cut the stem in between the nodes and placed them inside a clean, clear food container with perlite and water. Wish me luck! Thanks for this video!
Hi! So happy to have found you on youtube. Love the back information, like what is perlite and how it is made 🤓 got my first Anthurium clarinervium and trying to grow roots in sphangnum moos. But i think i will try the method with perlite too. Thank you for sharing! 🔮🌱😍
Thank you for the video, very interesting! I would like to see more propagations, maybe one where we can see how you cut the anthurium. Thanks again 💚🌱
Thank you for your video on Anthuriums! I followed your advice, and bought net pots, and I am in the process of repotting my Anthuriums. Can I put them in a cache pot?
Hi, would this method be possible without the bag? I live in North Australia and the relative humidity is up around 85-90% :) also the air temp is in the low to medium 30s Celsius. Thanks 😊
Had to rewatch this video again :-). If one keeps a queen anthurium in the perlite for a long time , can one use slow release plant food pellets ? I have a queen re-rooting in perlite and it is starting to put out a new leaf . Thanks ^_^
Hi Ella, can most houseplants grow solely in perlite? I really am trying to transition from all soil mediums to solely other mediums such as perlite, sphagnum moss and,or river rocks, I guess more like hydroponics but I would love just perlite. I feel like these latter mediums suffer less from pests, diseases and root rot then soil mixes and requires less repotting but I don't mind that. I'd appreciate your input thank you.🌱🤗🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi Ella, are you able to do this to rehab a newly arrived anthurium? My A. forgetii just arrived and it's not doing too great (a bit of crispiness around the edge of one leaf and yellow spots on one of the other leaves) so thinking to use this method to rehab it
Hello! Im trying to do this with a rhaphidophora foraminifera. Its only been a couple weeks and it already has a leaf, but only a couple very small roots. Would you wait before repotting it? Thanks!
Very interesting video. A question - after you potted the newly grown plant, do you put it in a greenhouse or bag it? I would think it would need help to adjust to life outside the baggie.
Barbara Lindberg once the leaf is grown it’s potted and put into the greenhouse. The two in perlite that outgrew the bag were put into the greenhouse without being repotted.
If you haven't found one, I see them all the time on fb purge groups. Just search 'time to splurge and purge' or 'tropical plant purge' on fb and join the groups!
UGH I wish I had seen this video before removing my Anthurium from soil and putting it in water with river rocks! Is it too late to do perlite or should I just leave as is? And thank you Ella for this video.🌱🤗🙏🏼🙏🏼
How is it going with water and river rocks? My anthurium lost all roots and i also placed it in water with rocks hoping to grow some new roots ,but im afraid it will also rot and die ..so i am here looking for ways to save it lol
Interesting. I have never tried this. They look great. Does it have to be in the bag if you already have high humidity? Or it is just to start the growth? I just did a huge order of net pots. Now soil has been a problem cause they charge so much more for the shipping.
@@ThePlantsMeow I have a balaoanum and it has very lone stem like almost two feet and there are aerial roots already, I am thinking to cut the top once I have encouraged stronger roots on top and have the lower portion cut for propagation..what ya think?
Hi! I was wondering if and if so how often you should change the water in the bag? 😊 Just bought my first piece of stem and I do NOT want to mess this up. 😅
@@ThePlantsMeow so sorry, just 1 more question... I just received it today and I was totally ready to try your method BUT I do not have a net pot. 😩 Just a regular plastic one with holes in the bottom. Do you think that's fine too? 🌱
Would this method work for gloriosum? I am new to creeping philly's. It has a healthy stem, two leaves but the roots rotted. I'm kind of panicking dont want to lose the plant.
It revitalizer that helps to reduce the stress in plants. I mainly use it when I repot but you can use it anytime you think your plant may be stressed out. It isn’t a fertilizer though so I wouldn’t rely on that. Just helps to make the plant feel better. 😊
@@ThePlantsMeow when i look it up it says its a mix of B1 and indolebuturic acid, either one or both of which coming from a kelp extract? says its helpful most with root growth and reducing transplant stress. interesting. gonna try it. ty.
Finally found someone who's doing the same thing that I do. It does really work so well. I love your plants. Thanks for sharing this.
Do you wet the perlite beforehand?
So trying this!

Great info!! I don’t have any of these Anthuriums, but I’m learning a lot if an when I do. 😀 That’s pretty cool way of saving them.
Sherry Porsch thank you!! It really is a great method. Works for other plants too!

Great video , thank you .
I use a mainly Perlite on all my propagations . It works well on all plants in my opinion . Be well and stay safe .
Russell Evans Thank you! It definitely does. I love perlite. You stay safe too 😊
Greetings from Finland😊I root in similar way but use leca as growmedium.
Light and bottom heat helps for even faster results.
I definitely want to try perlite propagations!

Klasik Plantlady either way is fine! The perlite will wick up what it needs and drain the rest 🤗
Is it just plain water do you use? Or do you put some growth solutions in there too ?

I just had a bum shipment of anthuriums come in with cold damage - going to try this! Thank you.
This is excellent for cold damage! The two plants in this video had cold damage and were stumps for a while.

Perlite vs. Pumice?
Also...Still LOVE that kitchen color palette!🌿💚
Thank you!! 😍 I like that perlite is cheaper and easier to get. Pumice is great too though! I’ve seen people mix the two for heavier plants 🤗
Love the bloopers. 😅❤
I’m going to try this method. Have you used it for other kinds of plants as well?

I would use a slow release like nutricote. Osmocote relies on osmosis and will release when wet. In this scenario it would release too much. 😊

Can we just leave it on Perlite once it grows?

can i put a cutting with a leaf in the ziploc with perlite? or is that bad

When using superthrive, how do you measure? So hard when it’s so concentrated and I don’t want to overdo it! How much did you use for this?
I heard someone say 1 drop per 4oz, that's what I do until proven otherwize.
Super cool.

Paula Bollers no you can do it outside the bag if your humidity is high 🤗 Shipping really is the worst right now! Everything is SO expensive!
Do you have any mould issues with these closed bags?
how long did it took to show the new leaves with the perlite propagation method? also, I am wondering where u get your wonderful stems!
Depends if there is any root but usually 2-3 months. The stems had leaves but they died back 😊 (no roots bc rotted in shipping)

Aviv Mirkin absolutely! I plan to do a series on the differences between them 😊

Do you think this would work with a Thai constellation node?

Yes you can do this for philodendrons as well 😊
