    show us the process of creating the custom support please. What slicer are you using? Are you modeling the custom support in CAD?

      They're clearly modeled as part of the design. They're not that hard to do, either. Generally you can get good results by supporting the edges of overhangs with modeled walls that follow the same contour, and you just design in the same air gap that you'd slice automatic supports with (I usually use one layer height). Another trick for stepped holes (like, where the lower part has a larger diameter to accommodate a screw head or something) is to model a one-layer skin across the step - then the printer isn't trying to draw the smaller diameter in midair on the first layer of the size change, and you can just punch out the thin layer of plastic when you insert the fastener.

    I bought my first 3D printer yesterday with Foam blasters in mind. Any and EVERY 3D printing video you upload, I'm on it! I'm fascinated by the whole process and would love to see the whole print design process from imagined to tangible!

      I would be interested in how to slice pro quality 3D printed parts and how to pick color combo's. The last is personal I know but you seem to hit the sweet spot quite often.

      factory videos! very interested in the stuff like managing inventory and applying lean thinking to some of the more management aspects of the business
      edit: making more 3d printing specific videos could also bring in a whole new audience that tends to be 1. adults with $ for 3d printers and 2. wouldnt have seen your blaster business any other way and would consider buying some for their kids or young relatives

    I'd like to see a miniseries on 3D print settings for Nerf specific purposes. I'd like to see it cover things like infill, supports, materials and orientations for ideal results relating to structural integrity when printing community open source parts like ofp cages, caliburn parts, foregrips, and possibly even body kits. I'd suggest a miniseries format because one of the things I like about your videos is that they're short and "to the point". I think one thing that turns me off from 3d printing tutorials is that sometimes they can be excessively long for the information being presented.

    This couldn’t have come out at a better time for me currently. It’s great to see 3D printed tips directly tied to our hobby. I’d honestly love to see a more in depth explanation to what slicer software/custom support tools you’re using to achieve some of these supports or even a guide to explain how you go through understanding what areas need support and what don’t. My personal use and workings with 3D printing has built up quite a lot over the years, but even some really minimal custom support building is an absolute mystery to me.

    I think its a good mindset for designing blasters/parts with custom supports/supportless in mind. I've been working with that mindset for quite some time now and it really pays off in time and the hassle of cleaning stuff up. I'm very happy to see you are doing it that way as well!     i watch several different youtubers on several subjects, be it nerf stuff, tech, automotive, woodworking, whatever. the biggest reason i do is differing opinions helps to make decisions. quite often i don't get a chance to get something or try something on the 'bleeding edge' of any trend or product, so even if you're late to the party your opinions are valid. that said, i enjoy the behind the scenes stuff too. shop tours, 3d printing tips and tricks, all that. i think an 'arsenal' video or series could be cool. show us what you got!

    Awesome! Very informative. I've been designing a lot of new parts for an upcoming really big blaster project as well as my own custom parts to sell so I would love some future vids on how easily I can integrate these custom supports into my designs.

    I've personally used custom supports for tall-thin parts that can't print flat on the bed. Usually it's a single wall tower with easy to cut off bridges to the part.
    You can improve bridging of complex surfaces a LOT with strategic single layer thick recesses. The goal is to sub-divide the bridge into continuous linear paths on each layer. Another bridging trick I often uses is "ceiling beams". These are ribs, 4-10 extrusions wide, 4-10 layer thick added to large bridged surfaces. (strategically placed columns also often help) They minimize the amount of long bridging, are thick enough to fully recover from bridging sag, and serve to sub-divide the rest of the long bridges into lots of shorter segments that print with higher quality.

    I like the 3D printed tips! A lot of the foam-flinging community is going into the 3D printing hobby with myself included and there aren’t any specific creators who address the problems that we specifically have. So I personally would love to see more interesting tips or problems you come across Like and how you fix them! :)

    I think just as other people have said I would love to see some details on how these custom supports were created. I'm sure you likely don't want to make a full CAD tutorial but just some of the insight on the magic of how the support interfaces with the part to allow the clean break and things like this would be some excellent information.

    Brilliant work Tarik and Luke! I would love to see you guys tackle the low profile picatinny top rail for the Longshot. The one from Worker has the worst quality I've ever seen on a print. It's been a sore spot of mine to use it in builds have have such nice and smooth surfaces even with other 3d printed parts, except the top rail.

    I recently started my own 3D-printing business back in August selling add-on kits for Transformers figures, running with currently only two printers, and the way that you do business has been a huge inspiration and help to me thus far.     I would love a tutorial on how to Tarik designs custom minimal supports.
    My mind is already racing with imagining how it might be done…perhaps a video focusing on designing the interface where the support meet what is being supported is the key.
    Is there a tiny space above the supports?
    Is the support added to the part by touching minimally (so they are sliced as one part)?
    Are the support walls one layer thick?
    Will they ever find life on Earth?

    I always print with a brim lol, I use a sidewinder x1 so it has great build plate adhesion but I do it just to be safe lol

    Its a great video to give a suggestion of looking into supporting parts with custom supports. But would love to have something that describes the actual creation process of the custom supports. Like how do you make it so the part allows proper remove without scarring, how does it not have bad bottom layer after the support, things like that.

    I'm assuming that the custom supports are created in CAD as a separate body with a slight gap and printed together ? Would like to learn more. Thanks for the great content and I appreciate what you are doing. Love to see a business like yours doing well......and having fun at the same time !

      Yes, all created in CAD, usually a .1-.15mm gap is ideal, but it will depend on the part and how much interface the parts have.

    Hi Luke, thanks for the video and this is such a huge help. I used your recommended PLA filament settings of 220 nozzle and 66 for the bed on both my MK's and my one mini. The results are much better. What is your recommended flow settings in Prusa Slicer for PLA? I use Printed Solid's Jessie filament (not able to afford ProtoPasta), however even on part top edges I have what looks like a slight over extrusion. Any slicer flow settings?

    there is such thing as water-soluble support materials, albeit idk how much it runs for, and I believe it takes a specific kinda printer to use it (two-filament printers)

      The printers we use (Prusa i3 Mk 3S) have a multi-filament add-on, but haven't yet decided to use it in our farm. Stay tuned though! We're lining up more 3D-Printed content and behind-the-scenes videos.

    With the amount of material you generate have you contracted your material supplier about returning your waste for them to reprocess and reuse? Could be a mutually beneficial situation.

    Is shipping being delayed? I heard that some packages are going to be a month delayed but it wasn't a reliable source.

      USPS has been missing a lot of tracking scans since being understaffed with COVID-19 and that issue has been compounded with the busy Holiday season.       Mostly Hatchbox and Prusament with atomic and protopasta for one-off colors.

      We primarily use PLA. We use PETG for some parts, and for printer repairs, but we've stuck with PLA for most of our products.

    I don't normally comment, but this video was super disappointing. Tell us HOW and the theory behind designing the custom supports!? I'm happy for your custom support success and by watching this video of you showing them off we can get ideas, but come on...tell us how - kind of a waste of time.

    Completely disappointed! Your work is amazing. Unfortunately, your video explaining custom supports was fast moving, impossible to see (always moving parts around), and lacking in description. You essentially told us you have somebody that makes great custom supports for the products you sell. Gee, it would have been nice if I could have taken something away from this video. Please try again.
