The Fire Rain Rockets have tbe benefit of putting out twice as many rockets per barrage as a Sky Junk. That's really the appeal, it's saturation and weight of fire against better positioning and relative safety
Same thing. Consistently deleted half the enemy army with two of these units before they got into melee range during my Cathay campaign. I also feel like the stray rockets are more predictible than the sky junk, so if you target the right unit you can predict the strays rockets to hit other enemy units nearby.
Also it is important to note that the lantern and the junk boost morale by +4 and allow you to see enemies hidden in trees map wide as well. It's Always a good idea to have one in the army to reach ridiculous amounts of leadership for all units. In my solo campaign my PEASANTS have 90+ leadership thanks to that and other stuff.
to help your range unit flank the ennemy, I oftenly place my melee unit in some type of collumn formation instead of a line to encourage units to attack them on the flank, exposing themselves to my archers. It reduced the amount of micro management, but will increase melee lost, especially if they are weak units
I love defensive style factions like the Dawi and High Elves, so i think I'm gonna love Cathay! Especially with those Ying and Yang buffs. Great Vid Dude! 😎
Another con I'd add is that it's overall not a very mobile army. Cathay's cavalry roster is all of three units, and while the Longma Riders are pretty nice elite flying cav, the Peasant Horsemen and Jade Lancers are basically worse brettonian Yeomen and Empire Knights respectively.
I was honestly going into this release not giving two squirts about Cathay (having all eyes upon the Dawi Zharr, Ogres, and Nurgle) but I have to say their ranged units are very interesting and flavorful--looking at you, floaty tea candle lamp things--and the yin-yang concept for the troops is intriguing.
One note on sky junk vs fire rain. Sky junk is 1 model, with 1 fire rain cannon. Fire rain has 3 fire rain cannons. This is a huge difference, with a total of 36 shots worth of damage vs 15 shots. That's a lot more damage. And I've noticed the land unit is a bit more accurate it seems. And deals more damage quicker due to more shots at a time.
The balloons give +4 Leadership, have infinite ammo for their crane guns, provide sight in all trees across the map, have excellent line of sight on targets practically anywhere, and benefit from the relative safety of flight. All in all, the balloons just have way to many pros compared to cons. Sticking a fire rain and two balloons was my go to for a long time, but I've recently started just using two balloons in favor of an extra terracotta sentinel for my frontline. I haven't really felt the loss that much.
@Celarc tbh. I don't use either anymore as the iron dragon once I hit sentinels, longma, and celestial dragon guard. I do use one in my generic armies to force then to come to me though.
Present Archers are also just useful if you just need bodies in your army and don't have the coin for better things. Also the rocket cannons are decent because there is three models each with 12 volleys so that's 36 in total which I believe is more then the Sky junk. Ether way love the vid.
I liked TW Three Kingdoms, but I'm glad it existed to make work on Cathay easier. If we're lucky, maybe we'll get Cathayan Vampire Counts and Vampire Coast. (Still hoping for Clan Skurvy tho)
Fire rain rockets are, firepower wise, superior to sky junks because a sky junk is just one rocket artillery, while fire rain contains 4 artillery pieces (on ultra). Of course sky lanterns have greater maneuverability, crane gunners and bombs, but if you're just using the junk as an artillery piece, the fire rain rockets will probably get more kills.
Have you been able to figure out if there a need or value to match a yin leader with a yang hero and vice versa? Any buffs or benefits from this matching?
Damn I’ll disagree on the peasant spearmen. IMO they are the early game carry. They hold the line forever for your ranged units to wither down the enemy.
So when you have units bracing and the lines collide, should you tell that unit to attack or just kinda leave them there since they are braced fighting?
As cool as this is, my monkey brain prefers the General Grant style of sending mass units at the enemy. While cool, I think I'll prefer khorne and the ogre kingdoms, maybe slannesh as well.
From what I've seen they're the ultimate glass cannon. They'll melt things if left alone, but if they get cuaght in melee or shot at they'll die just as quick themselves. Also Missile Mirror is absolute hilarity against them, they'll wipe out like 80% of their own healthbar with a single reflected volley.
The army composition leaves a lot to be desired. Sky lanterns are terrible units, very delicate and not that usefull; use one if you must for the leadership buff but no more, two is just a waste of space. Almost anything else is better. The endgame army is not great, to say the least. Dragon crossbows are one of the best unit in the game, they can melt almost anything. Use more, like 6-8, using only 2 is sad. I find that one sentinel is enough; also sky junks are not better than rocket artillery, they just have better line of sight... usually. I mean, play as you like, but I believe that yuor army temlete will result in an unoptimized Cathay.
The army compositions that you recommend are cool and have a huge variety of troops but are quite ineffective, for the endgame armies you want a lot more celestial crossbowmen, the gunpowder units imo are completely useless, having some rocket batteries is super strong as they have an insane dps, i would get only one lantern per army for the utility it provides, one last thing for anyone reading this and not knowing a lot about the game, you should focus on 2-3 different units per army and buff those as much as possible, too much variety hurts you, if not playing in very hard or legendary colonels recommendations work just fine
Thanks for this. I keep getting bodied by Nurgle in the late game and it's getting to be frustrating. Seems like they field nothing but monsters and cavalry and it keeps wrecking my missile units by outflanking everything.
Will you please learn to pronounce 'melee' correctly!!! The rest of your content is great, but it's like nails on a chalk board when you keep pronouncing melee incorrectly.
Which is your favourite Cathay unit?
Da big boi, Terracotta Sentinel.
Terracotta sentinel looks badass!
The flying machines and heroes
Celestial dragon guard! Infantry lookin useful for once
celestial dragon guard just wish they had a heavy weapon or sword and sheild varient

Came here to say this. Yes, I love the Sky Junk, but with twice the firepower you can obliterate lines before they get to you.

Same dude. Though i also Love any faction with a lot of gunpowder units such of the Empire.
Looks like a fun roster, especially the jezails, sky junk, and terracotta sentinel. Thank you for the guide.
Dragon shape shifting sounds like fun until I forget I’m dueling Vlad and unknowingly sacrifice my lord after looking away for a few seconds

You made just the perfect video here. On the point explanations, backed up by actual video for each and every unit. Insta-subbed!
Nice idea to show units in fight :)

The fire rain also has a higher damage and firey attacks, I stick with the fire rain, the sky just is too situational for me
Having one of each feels like the way to go for me, the fire rain does so much damage

Very helpful! Thank you. You rock.
13:53 Great Longma Riders don't have Anti-Infantry Damage. Maybe it's Anti-Infantry written because of the Mass?
They don’t have the bonus damage but they are great vs infantry is probably what it means
@@ColonelDamneders I know but it is still misleading :)

how do you move them without leaving the formation? i only know with the arrow keys but its not very practical...

Supposed to leave them. However it's bugged atm and it's much better to counter charge right before they meet.
5 celestial spearman 4 celestial crossbow men 3 fire rockets one terrocata sentiental 4 flying longma riders and 3 jade warriors

I would actually rather use the fire rain rocket because it's has 4 times the entities that the sky junks do
