Got last seasons 155W based on your review to fill the non-powder day butter stick position in my quiver with something I would not end up hating for how it carves.
And oh boy, this is fun to carve. You did attest it to be solid at carving and handle all types well, but I took that with too much of a grain of salt for being a freestyle oriented board. The asymmetric shape is a nice bonus making the heel side equally fun, but not what I am talking about here. By no means as experienced as Avran on why a board rides like it does, I can only guess the torsional flex playing a major role here, but as someone to whom both proper carving as well as buttering are essential parts of ones riding, it put a big smile on my face straight away.
This is going to fill a larger spot in my quiver than I hoped for. Great board for my style!
Had to check my local shops from Vermont all the way to Connecticut to find the Finest in a 151. Only 1 shop in ,New Hampshire, had it in stock! Now I have it!! And no sales tax!! Thank you N.H. Stooookeddd!!!
Live Free Die Tax Free! NH's state motto.
Been back and forth between last year's Space Case and this one and I think this just convinced me. Sendddd it
Great reviews as always!
I would appreciate your advice, I am an intermediate 20-year-old boarder trapped inside a 40-year-old body. I currently ride an equally old Gnu board which, though great, is starting to become a museum piece!
I'd love to move to something else that likely would fall into your 'Rad Dad' category, though I'm not rad not a dad, though I'm trying... to be Rad that is, the Dad thing's not happening (more money for lift passes)! Something where I can just play on the piste, butter, euro-carve, pop of the odd feature here and there, and maybe stray into the park on the days that I forget I'm not 20 any more and I'll feel sore in the morning. I just want something fun all over the mountain, responsive but playful.
I've narrowed it down to:
Capita Mercury
Ride Algorithm
Gnu Finest
I love the sound of the Mercury and the Algorithm, but then I keep watching your Finest review and it sounds so tempting. I just want to play. Play on the groomers, in the crud, in the icy shit, pop off the hips, butter and spin. I just want a fun tool to progress without killing myself.
Get a Gnu Antigravity actually or a Hyper Kyarve. I think that will hit the appropriate check marks on your list.
@@AngrySnowboarder Wow, great suggestions. I hadn't considered those and I wasn't thinking directional but why not? Both seem a bit mad. Now I just have to decide - stiffer or softer - which seems to be the main differences from what I can see.
Keep up the great work.
Hello bud! Good to see you still pumping great stuff out and you are getting more and more recognized! I need a C2(x) board as a daily driver to do everything on, which also includes being laid back with the kids once in a while. This, riders choice or t rice pro? Or something from Niche?
Good to see you're teaching The Motel how to shred. Grandfather of the year. I'd do the Riders Choice as it's the most well rounded out of the ones you have listed.
Finest vs assymulator.. Which one and why? The way you described the style of riding for finest of buttering while turning/pivoting, assume carving style is right up my alley, but the sounds of assymulator sounds amazing as well. . I want to upgrade my 2018 Capita DOA and get a board more suitable to my riding style.
It comes down to the camber profile and construction you want. Asymulator will have a more mellowed out traditional style of camber where as the Finest will have a hybrid camber profile. This changes the flex points and snap out of turns from the center of the board. Then there's the construction Austrian vs American. The Gnu will be slightly heavier and more damp which helps with absorbing micro vibrations.
@@AngrySnowboarder Say I like to make a wider S motion of a turn and then when I slide a 180 and pop off my front foot to get some 180/360 air to switch .. I'm having a feeling from you're description that the Finest, though you have the knowledge. Just love all mountain freestyle, with buttering and crazy turns 180, 360 .. natural and park hits, trees and rhythm riding. I'm on East coast so I really like having that magnetraction, but never have road an asym board which I'm excited about!
Just get the Finest you'll be fine.
@@AngrySnowboarder Yes was aimed at this since I heard about it. Tho will fed demo the asym out as I love Capita boards. Might have to grab both before seasons out. Thank you for the hi quality content guys. Very much appreciated!
What are the advantages of Space Case over for example Box Knife or Headspace? Is it worth to pay 100/130 USD more for the Space case?
Just bought one!
Rome DOD or Burton Malivitas would suit would be better for this board? I have the Arbor Cypress and feel the have a great responsiveness with this board Carve and turning wise, but the X Baseplate restricts the butterability and flex of the board.
Yo yo appreciate all the content! Literally studying them before my purchase. I think I’m an advanced beginner/ intermediate rider and I’m coming from a dwd wizard stick, but I want something better for learning butters that will still have good pop and also do well with speed on choppy groomers or anywhere on the mountain really. The Bataleon evil twin 3bt is attractive but don’t want to make the wrong investment so I’m leaning a little more towards the gnu finest or yes jackpot? Or any other recommendations? Sick graphics or colors a plus to lol thanks brotha
Did u ever buy this board how’d you like it I’m also coming from a DWD wizard stick looking for something softer? What size did you get / think I could fit on a 154 w size 11 boots
Great review, board sounds good. I'm looking at this or a Riders Choice for an all round mountain board, which one would you recommend? Been on camber Ride DH2.6 for 10 years but thsts just not playful, its a hard charger. I also looked at the Propacamba and Capita DOA.
Finest is super soft compared to the Riders Choice. I'd get a DOA.
@@AngrySnowboarder thanks for the reply. I did fancy something softer than I've had, something a bit more playful hence looking at the finest, my local shop has a deal on for 300, Propacamba is also 280, and DOA is 450. (In the UK). I've only been used to Camber or Camber with a bit of Rocker at tip and tail, sometimes a stay away from any other profile. But your review seemed like you really liked the finest.
Sounds good. Finest vs Asymulator? For jumping+ all-mountain
If those are your only 2 choices, Asymulator, otherwise Lago Double Barrel or Gnu Riders Choice.
Hi Avrin, I am a intermediate rider and ride mainly groomers and lil bit pow and small tree runs around the groomers. I have a 5 year old Custom FlyingV 154. I want to learn riding switch and improve my butters. Is the finest my best option. I can get good deals on last year Boxknife/Headspace/RidersChoice in 154-5-6 or this years Twinpig 154. I am 175lbs now(gained 15 pounds this year)
Get the Finest.
Hi Arvin nice video! I am hesitating between gnu headspace and bataleon evil twin (I saw your analysis too) for a not so bad but definitely not a pro guy in freestyle like me, which one would you recommend? Thanks!
You could go either way. The Headspace is a bit more damp and stable at speeds. It's also not as loose in the tips as the ET.
Hello Angry, apologize for my poor grammar in advance. Which should I choose, Gnu or Westmark camber? Looking for a board to learn how to butter/pop/180s and on an on. Had a 154 Burton Kilroy Custom but thinking to trade it for something comes with better edge grip.
Westmark will have more pop, but for what you're describing Finest.
Hi Avrin thanks for the video! How does the finest compared to the 2020 Gnu Riders Choice c2x. They sound so similar! what's the difference just the flex?
Biggest difference will be the flex for sure. RC is more for charging and the Finest is more for playing around.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thanks for the reply Avrin
Thanks! Sounds awesome. Do you prefer this over the GNU Headspace 2020? (For general mountain freestyle fun/180s/quiver of one/etc) Also Im tall! 6ft 3in, 86Kg, is 157cm (Finest largest) too small for me? (I've a difficult decision to make between these boards and the Capita Mercury)
Just get a Mercury.
@@AngrySnowboarder I may well do (mercury does sounds great) but I get jealous when I see those youngsters buttering & spinning like crazy on their more softer flex freestyle boards (had a stiffer downhill board for years and feel like a change!)
Ride more and up your skills.
@Angry Snowboarder so the Mercury is butterable, so to speak?
@@ogfunk187 See above statement, stop being a hand holder.
Hey Angry, I’m upgrading from my Rome sds garage rocker 154. I now weigh 195, I lived on the west coast and now the east coast. Less mountain has bushed me into hitting jumps. I am 5’7”, what size would you recommend for this board?
54 or 57 your choice.
Angry , is the new 2023 model any different?
Updated review coming soon.
As a novice I'm looking at non camber boards I'm interested in this and the gang plank, besides profile how do they compare
Finest is a little more damp and softer flexing over all. It also has better edge hold due to the MTX on it. Little less pop than the Gangplank.
hi, im park/freestyle guy love my powerfull yes jackpot but pow days is very poor dont float nothing is narrow and mid bite dont help, now i looking a park board that can be fun these days, can be finest my chosen?
Get a powder board then.
This or the Capita ultrafear for park/carving/jumps and ollies?
This for sure.
DO you think the Arbor Cypress or Rome Katanas wouldbe better with this board?
Cypress or if you did Rome I'd do the DOD.
The finest vs the box knife ? For freestyle, stability, & features ? Thanks
Box knife is more stable.
Yo Avran - just curious why you didn't go with the 157?
Cause that's what they sent me.
Hey Angry, What should I choose between the 154/157 MW Arbor Westmark Rocker or the 155 W GNU Finest? I’m 5’10 male and weigh 170 lbs and want a board for jibbing, pressing, small jumps, small rails, and all around fun freestyle that will last 5-10 years
I forgot to mention I wear a size 13 boot
The best way to make a board last is to not ride.
Just FYI both of the snowboards I mentioned are built with different materials and one looks definitely more durable than the other and will certainly hold up longer: You may want to educate yourself about this since you are doing reviews of snowboards instead of trying to be a smart ass about it
Son, I've forgotten more about snowboards than you will ever know. What you're asking for is a board to last 5 to 10 years without taking into account that you're asking it to be a freestyle focused deck which means it will take a ton of abuse if you actually ride. But judging by the fact you want it to last for a decade you clearly aren't riding enough and are worried about something that doesn't factor in said abuse. Also if you're looking for it to last that long my guess is you don't ride that much so it won't matter in the grand scheme of things.
You may want to educate yourself on who you are talking to and what they know before you try to make a condescending response that shows you lack logic.
How do the gnu finest and the yes jackpot compare? Your pick? Currently ride in icy NJ but plan on moving to CO.
Softer torsional flex on the finest, less snap, easier to press but doesn't lock in as well as the Jackpot. Slightly better edge hold only because the MTX has more contact points.
Angry Snowboarder thanks very much man. I was under the impression that the finest would pop harder than the jackpot. Good to know since jackpot would obviously be better on top of our NJ ice
Hey!How does it compare to the riders choice?(For all mountain freestyle)
WAY softer.
What's the best board to learn butters but also be able to confidently carve at higher speeds + ocasional pow?
Endeavor Scout or Pioneer.
@@AngrySnowboarder i'm 5'10, weight 170lbs, shoe 9. I'm opting for Pioneer, will size 154 good for me? (i rode 159 K2 raygun before and felt it's too big)
@@stanleygodspeed4009 Should be good to go, might even got a little smaller if you wanted to.
@@AngrySnowboarder Wanted to get 152 but it turned out Endeavor is not that easy to get in Europe xD Got last piece of Pioneer 154 2020. Thanks for your help.
I am 5’6”, 170 lbs, Size 10.5 Boot. Would either the 151 or 154 work?
51 will probably be too tight for your boots, 54 would be better.
Angry Snowboarder Appreciate the feedback. Would you have any specific recommendations regarding which bindings might pair well with this board?
Hey man! I'm moving on from my old carbon credit and would you recommend this board as a good allmountain/freestyle board replacement? Also, what bindings would you recommend for this? I am thinking of getting the 2021 version, but cant decide. Thanks for the help!
Depends if you want something this soft.
@@AngrySnowboarder yea i wouldnt have anything to compare it to besides my carbon credit from 2015. But if im looking to progress in park and still ride it all mountain i dont think id mind.
im not sure how the stiffness compares to the 2021 version, but any bindings you recommend for it if im looking for park/allmountain?
Go for it and slap some Bent Metal Logics or Transfers on there. Could also do a Burton Malavita.
@@AngrySnowboarder awesome! I’ll definitely decide between those 3. I appreciate your help with helping me make a more informed decision
What is a better quiver of one the DWD wizard stick or a the finest?
Wizard Stick.
Thanks
At 5'11" 190lbs is the 57 too short? I do want to use it in pow and don't mind a shorter board.
It's a park board, why don't you get a pow board instead.
@@AngrySnowboarder Unfortunately the pow only lasts a few laps for this weekend warrior. Seattle sucks. Leaning toward the Mercury now.
Anyone have binding recommendations for this board ?
Bent Metal Joint, Burton Malavita, Union Strata.
I’m 5’9 140 with size 10.5 boot would the 154 or 157 be best?
And I’m growing probably to 5’11 in the next year
Well height means fuckall when picking a board, it's your weight their chief and your boot size. If you have a bulky 10.5 it's not going to fit on that 54.
Is this better than the GNU Space Case?
Different not better.
would i be okay riding this board with a size 10.5 boot? also what size should i ride I am 5ft 10in 165 lbs
Depends on the size you choose.
Angry Snowboarder how about the 151? lookinf for a bit more jib focused riding
Should work unless you have an abnormally skinny stance.
I am pretty happy to be on the 155W that meanwhile has added to the lineup with my size 10.5 boots.
With my bindings centered, I managed to heel-cup boot out within the first couple of carves feeling out the advantage of the asymmetric shape. Shifted them one nudge towards the toe edge and its been boot out free throughout the deepest carves.
Hey Avran can you explain some ways this improved on the space case? I enjoy the flex and pressibility of my space case, but it definitely lacks pop. Sounds like the finest has improved at least this aspect. Anything else? Do you know if they modified either sidecut? Thanks homie!
More snap but with more play in the tips. More torsional flex which changes how it carves.
Sweet thanks dude!
Finest or T Rice Pro? As an all mountain freestyle.
Not even comparable.
Thanks brother. Is the Finest just that much softer?
Oh yeah!
A wide Finest straight out of the bag (ie. not broken in at all) compared to a 2014 T.Rice Pro (which has seen shortish vacation rider seasons), carving is a good deal more fun, which I guess shows the softer torsional flex, but when it comes to buttering, it is not a mind blowing difference in stiffness -the T.Rice is definitely not a plank, nor is the Finest a noodle.
@@elho001 thanks man. Yeah I bought one couple seasons ago for the quiver. Love it.
Would you recommend the 154 for a size 10.5?
Should fit.
Only ask I’ve bought the antigravity at 153 said works up to 10.5 just seemed like I was walking the line. Also looks like this boards not only good in park but also in the mountain. Would you say it holds up in some POW?
If a snowboard doesn't hold up in pow they really fucked up with designing it.
gnu finest or lobster shifter?
Sure.
I like Mr. Warbington a Great Deal
is this a board you should size down on?
Not really.
@@AngrySnowboarder Comparable board: the Smokin Love BRTN?
@@atticusallen I guess if you wanted to go that route.
Do you think I'd be able to fit 11 boots on a 154 or would have to go 157? Really intrigued by this one.
57 is probably going to be the only one that will fit you.
@@AngrySnowboarder Thanks man, that's what I figured.
