Does not drink. Never drank, never did drugs or sleep around and married to the same lady for 48 years. Also, if you notice, he never uses curse words. No F - bombs at all. I can't help but think Dr D is one heck of a classy gentleman. Hats off to you sir. Going to order your book when I'm done listening to this interview. Great job as always Hannibal 👏
Dr. D is an absolute pleasure to listen to, he's one of those badass dudes that's really a teddy bear because he's so sure of himself and confident that he doesn't need to try hard, he has nothing to prove.
One of the realest most loyal guys ever in the business . Quite possibly the greatest true heel of all time . Wwe could still use him . He's gold on the mic
I had the pleasure of growing up in Calgary with Stampede Wrestling. Dr. D was one of my favorites. The real thing in a type of territory that no longer exists.
I started watching wrestling in 1990 so David Shultz was before my time but after watching this shoot interview I became a big fan of his. I really enjoyed this.👍👍👍
Mulatto Menace ok can he be a peace of shit and still hold the benchmark status. I think so. Because he is a shitty shitty guy. I will edit sucks to POS
Sadly Stossel is probably one of the least slimey of the media personalities especially compared to those of today. I'd love to see him slap Jim Acosta and Don Lemon into a coma.
Wow, the mayor of West Haven shot up my house in West Haven! Thats why you had to go after him lol small world. This was a great interview, loved every bit of it, now I gotta get the book.
Hannibal, you are a terrific interviewer...you dont interrupt folks, you let them fully answer the questions, and you ask excellent questions. Awesome work here with Dr. D.
i dont know how you feel because i havent watched this interview yet, but im just saying thank you for slapping that interviewer back in the day. its still real to me and was to him that day damn it ;-)
I REALLY enjoyed this interview. Thank you and thank you, Dr. D! I remember when he came to the twin cities. We just HATED him! That southern sound and all the bravado, all without the looney-tooney stuff that came with WWF just after that. If I had seen Mr. Schultz walking down the street, I would have crossed to the other side! The most enlightening part of this interview was, "I don't drink, never have." RESPECT!!!
Dr. D had a really similar experience in the Army as my dad, probably around the same time. My dad got drafted in 72' but got really lucky because he ended up working first at an ammo dump, then as a jeep driver/mail carrier in Heidelberg, Germany. Pretty rare for a couple poor kids from backwoods towns to not end up on the front lines. They both got extremely lucky.
Schultz was 6'6" or 6'7" wasn't he? Would that not make him physically unfit for infantry since he would be too big of a target to be shot at by the NVA/VC ?
My dad got drafted around that time, but they changed his draft classification, as they found out he had spinal meningitis before he finished high school. They never did take him.
Great great interview. Hannibal you're a great interviewer. Nice to see Dr. D is doing well and seems very happy with his life. I wish we could have enjoyed him for a few more years in the ring.
Dr. D. seems to be one of the more honest shoot interviewees. I wonder if it's because he's just that way, or because he's not worrying about trying to get his next booking.
I also love the TNT sketch of David "at home" with his guns and Vince freaking out every time Dave points the shotgun at him lol and then it goes off. Funny shit
David Schultz life story would make a great movie. I was born and raised in Nashville Tennessee and I always support our Tennessee boys. God bless Dixie !!!
I understand Dr D being a bit bitter. He took up for the business and is a loyal man and was abandoned by his true buddies. I always enjoyed watching him work over the years.
I love Dr D !! His work ethic, his personal life ethics. His views on things are pure in heart. Clearly open and honest. And I think Vince McMahon should put Dr D in the HOF!! I think it's time to give this man his due and proper.
Dr. D was the ONE wrestler I watched in my youth that scared me...in other words his "gimmick" (it wasn't far from the truth!) came across as "real". A legit badass you'd never want to face. Plus, being a Georgian and him from Tennessee, I knew those Southern mannerisms and knew that he really meant business. IMO Vince screwed the fans of the world so, so, many times. What he did to Doc....ending the territories...no more kayfabe (not that ppl believed wrestling to be 💯 legit, but then again when you buy a movie ticket...nobody reminds you "this is totally fake" right when yu walked in. Yu want to get lost in the moment) And look where wrestling is today...dead. Congrats Vince! You bought em all and burned it all down and destroyed the business.
@andrion waser I agree 100%. I grew up watching GCW (later WCW), ACW, UCW, Smoky Mtns, Mid-Atlantic, Stampede, all the NWA umbrella territories, WCCW in Texas w the Von Erichs, basically ANYTHING but WWE(F at the time) bc it was just too comical...I mean when you're talking about something in Pro Wrestling being "comical" you know it's over the top lol! Great example you gave with Andre. It was the circus like environment plus his expansion...either buying the territories or forcing them into bankruptcy that made me really dislike Vince. He's a brilliant businessman, but terrible at his eye for the long game. After that year WCW beat them in the rankings he went full out "Jerry Springer" mode. It was just horrible, especially for an old school fan like me even though I did like Stone Cold and The Rock in their prime. I knew from a very early age it wasn't "real", but when Vince broke kayfabe just to get out of some taxes, I really couldn't believe it. I love watching these old videos now of a time long passed. I grew up in a city of about 150K called Macon GA and WCW would do a TV taping there about once a month. Those were great times. I'm 49 now...when I was about 15 we got kicked out bc someone in our group threw a drink at Dennis Condrey of the Midnight Express when we saw him peeking from behind the curtain watching a match and it just exploded on his forehead 😆. I guess watching these take me back to my youth, and I really appreciate what all those guys did to entertain us, all the bumps, all the shoots, all the promos (shout out to the Nature Boy), EVERYTHING. It was something laughed at by most but I didn't care. There's wrestlers from WWE I admire...especially Foley and Taker. Speaking of them, that bump Foley took (twice!) and when Cornette dropped from the ladder and tore both knees up are probably the best I've seen. I appreciate every guy that got in the ring n gave their bodies (and lives) up for our amusement. Thanks so much and sorry for being so long winded...I could talk wrestling for days! (BTW you saying Stone Cold reminded you of Dr. D...exactly. Almost the same gimmick but Stone Cold added more to it...it's hard to look at Steve Austin in the bleach blonde years and think that's the same guy. GREAT, GREAT guy all around and I think most are. There are some A-holes but they're generally nice, good dudes out of the ring. I've met many and Steve is close to the top. Nobody is cooler than Foley lol. That dude will crack you up laughing. I can't believe the abuse he took over the years) Really sorry for writing so much...and here I am blasting WWF and my favorite wrestler back then was Dr. D...I think Vince Sr. might have hired him...not sure. It definitely got way worse under Jr...
I found this cool. When you look up shoot match in wrestling, on Wikipedia. It give two examples. They are Kurt Angle Vs. Daniel Puder, and the great, Dr D. David Schultz, and his slap heard round the wrestling world. . Seems fitting to me.
Every single bit of this was as good as I expected it to be if not better. And I had high expectations. But the cherry on top was his Stu Hart impression haha
Awesome interview. Probably one of the most interesting people around at that time and now. Life experiences and all the shady corporate dealings he had to put up with, etc. It's a crazy balance. A guy that would probably have your back and then some and would only ask for you to be a real friend in return, you know?
I grew up watching Dr. D, that's when wrestling was awesome 👍. They really made you think it was real and these guys made you think that they really had heat between them. Man I miss the 70's and 80's wrestling.

thank you big time for this shoot interview
Thank you for all these interviews. We all thank you

Great interview. Much appreciated 🙏
THIS IS A BIG TIME INTERVIEW!!!
Dr. D was a straight up, no nonsense legitimate badass. Thank you posting this, im a huge Dr. D fan, the man is a legend in my eyes.
I have a lot of respect for Dr. D. He tells it like it is.
Or how HE sees it..
If all the wrestlers would have taken their jobs as seriously as Dr. D had, wrestling would have been a lot better in the long run.
Yes I agree
Absolutely!! Here I am 2 years later commenting on the same video shot probably 5 years ago? Maybe more. I miss the old days of Pro Wrestling
Or we'd have no wrestling at all because of hundreds of lawsuits.
165 pounds at 12 years old that’s insane.
Schultz is the Gordon Ramsey of the ring
Dr. D is an absolute pleasure to listen to, he's one of those badass dudes that's really a teddy bear because he's so sure of himself and confident that he doesn't need to try hard, he has nothing to prove.
Really a teddy bear? Don't gay up everything with yourTinkerbellish thoughts.
I don’t think teddy bear is a good description but I hear ya. He’s a straight shooter who didn’t need PED and never took shit from anyone.
Yeah ok
One of the realest most loyal guys ever in the business . Quite possibly the greatest true heel of all time . Wwe could still use him . He's gold on the mic
Agree 💯
I had the pleasure of growing up in Calgary with Stampede Wrestling. Dr. D was one of my favorites. The real thing in a type of territory that no longer exists.
Hannibal has thee best shoot interviews on UA-cam.

Love Dr. D . He tells it straight and has and will always be a BADASS!!
Not sure why but love hearing this guy talk. Interesting guy.
Hogan POS
Mulatto Menace ok can he be a peace of shit and still hold the benchmark status. I think so. Because he is a shitty shitty guy. I will edit sucks to POS
We need Dr. D to come slap around some of the news media that’s out nowadays.
I'd like Dr. D to slap Donald Trump around.
Sadly Stossel is probably one of the least slimey of the media personalities especially compared to those of today. I'd love to see him slap Jim Acosta and Don Lemon into a coma.
Yeah, I'd love to see him slap the fuck out of Tucker Carlson, Sean Hannity, and pig face trump
@Colin Killian what makes you so sure? Id be willing to bet Dr D is disgusted with Trumps behavior.
exactly, like Steven A Smith!
Wow, the mayor of West Haven shot up my house in West Haven! Thats why you had to go after him lol small world. This was a great interview, loved every bit of it, now I gotta get the book.
Seen Doctor D several times in the Alabama Southeastern territory. One of the Best. Thanks. Keep all the great interviews coming. Good job.
I love listening to David... my favorite of all time..i got so much respect for him
This was great!
One of the best if not the best shoot interviews I've seen.
This is awesome. Thanks for the video Devon!
A true legend of wrestling and he belongs in the wwe hall of fame period no questions asked.

Dr D was one of my favorite wrestlers in the early 80's
When he slapped that reporter I loved it he became a hero to thousands of people
Great interview! Always liked Dr. D.
I REALLY enjoyed this interview. Thank you and thank you, Dr. D!

I thoroughly enjoyed this interview. I'd like to meet Dr. D one day.

Same as my uncle...poor kid from the backwoods, gets drafted and sent to Japan. Very lucky not to go to Vietnam
Great great interview. Hannibal you're a great interviewer. Nice to see Dr. D is doing well and seems very happy with his life. I wish we could have enjoyed him for a few more years in the ring.
This is one of the best interviews on your channel. The Doctor is a lot different than I expected. He provided some very good insight on working.
Never knew he didn't drink. Probably a good thing with his temper.
Brad Gaines Right? Seems like he’d be the exact opposite. Wise man.
@@illusionxmuta Blew my mind to hear him say that.

Hannibal is the best when it comes to shoot interviews. No questions asked. He don't interrupt and is flawless
Thank you Sir Devon :)
I was probably a year or two too young to really appreciate Dr. D when I was a kid but this interview made me a big fan now!
Been waiting for this, I recommend watching all his promos on UA-cam, pure gold , the old wwf one with him at home would never get on wwe now 😂.
I also love the TNT sketch of David "at home" with his guns and Vince freaking out every time Dave points the shotgun at him lol and then it goes off. Funny shit
MrAitraining yeah 😂 another brilliant skit , the good old days.
Great interview as always the best on here thank you Hannibal
Great respect for Dr D for how he tells it like it is.
What an awesome interview! Dr D. is what Pro Wrestling should be
The realest man in the business. I have so much respect for this man.
David Schultz life story would make a great movie. I was born and raised in Nashville Tennessee and I always support our Tennessee boys. God bless Dixie !!!
Well they don't play it ever during sporting events. Dixie lost to the star spangled banner in 1865
Yes thx for this interview Hannibal.
I sooooo loved watching him on Stampede....a true badass
How is this guy not in the top ten legit badasses of pro wrestling?? I would put him right behind Haku.
I understand Dr D being a bit bitter. He took up for the business and is a loyal man and was abandoned by his true buddies. I always enjoyed watching him work over the years.
What an amazing character this man is…

It’s so funny his description of Hogan. Lapsed Hogan is forever paranoid.
I’ve noticed a lot of wrestlers have a Hogan story…
