Loving this frequent videos! Big fan! :)
Thank you! 😎
Nice game! Stealing from blue at 13:10 can bring you to 9 sheep and you can 4 for 1 sheep to brick and wheat, then settle.
Good point! Could’ve just ported all the sheep away and would’ve been good to go
good catch, thats what I was thinking as well
@22.57 Didn't see on the video any attemps or thoughts to trade for one extra sheep, or brick(green has one) to road build to 2,4,9 to steal blues winning settlement spot.
I defs should’ve thought about that! Would’ve been a good option 😎
You and blue really left the board open for green. His problem was that he went for devs too early. On 13:08 when you use the knight to rob green for brick. The play is to tell him in chat to trade you a brick or you’ll rob him. it’s better to rob the others and get 100% brick. Could have done the same play with one of your 7s. In colonist, chat is always visible so it’s convenient for chatting. On the 26:06 turn, if you don’t use knight, you can win by rolling 3 and use RB for road. On 27:34, at red’s turn, u need to help him conect for longest road to eliminate blue. I wrote the 27:34 part without watching blue’s win. You can come to people on their turn an offer things. It’s not one sided road
Good points! Also I played on colonist yesterday, wasn’t exactly a great experience since I got disconnected from my game and couldn’t reconnect. I play on a MacBook so maybe that’s why I have issues
@@catanblunders5113 interesting. I use my HP pc and almost always there are not problems. I know the design is goofy but if you put that aside, colonist is better in any way
Fun game!! The toughest part with going full dev is figuring out the right order I find. Think you would have had the win, or at least have had the an opening, if you went road building on your second last turn to set up for the YoP. Considering you had no port, bare bones road production and no other way to get points other then a settle, they were basically the perfect cards. Also, on the second last turn you were one card away from taking road and the win! Well hindsight is 20/20...
Yes I definitely noticed that after the game was done 😎 it was just so hard in the moment not to play the knight, but definitely the best chance was just going all in
Completely agree with your initial setup, I'd in fact do that as 1st position. My choice would be to go for 8-4 as my first expansion (more production and get the last ore tile) and hope that I can do road building to the 8-3-ore-port later. But frankly, your choice is probably better (even though it ended up with a worse outcome). Also, really surprised by the outcome!
Yes very surprising game indeed! I got messed up by losing the 3:1 and being targeted so much, but a few things I could’ve done differently to save my 3:1
@@catanblunders5113 Go 6,5,11 next time and you will get your 3:1 port. This will also prevent others from getting extremely strong expansion spots.
I would have liked you pointing and going for the 3:1 on wheat just due to safety. Settling with OW S is always hit-or-miss.
Curious game. Felt winnable.
That defs would’ve been a lot safer to go for the other 3:1 on wheat. This game was defs winnable!
wait, in the end, at 26:00, couldn't you have won with year of plenty and road building for more 3 roads, making you longest road with 5 roads?
You can only play one development card on your turn so I would’ve had to spread it out between two turns, I think I would’ve had a better chance if I played the road building before the knight
Ive only watch the starting position but I am curious if 5611 building toward the 4911 would have been better. No wheat is always a problem...
I think the 6511 looks pretty good but yeah the lack of wheat is always a problem
Exciting game! Maybe a more optimal move was to play the road building instead of the knight at the end. That way, the next turn you would have gotten to 9VP. You would still not win, but you would finish 2nd and not lose ranking points.
Was thinking the same thing after this game, if I got lucky rolls as well I think I could’ve possibly won if I went down that route!
Lol. The moment you lost that 3:1 port, I knew you'd probably lose. The best way to kill a pure OWS player is to ensure that he doesn't get any additional settlement spots. You'd need to get at least 4 out of the 5 VP cards in deck to win with 2 cities and largest army, and that's pretty much impossible with everyone else also gunning for the dev card pile. Once I saw you lose that port, I just skipped to the end to confirm my suspicion.
It's not like he's out of expansion spots, but obviously, wasted roads are expensive. So I was feeling pretty much the same way.
Yeah that’s really what killed me this game, I think if would’ve built the extra road to prevent from getting cut off on the 3:1 I would’ve been looking a lot better in the late game!
Super great that the top comment fucking spoils the entire video. Thanks asshole, you just saved me 30 mins.... I'm loving the new youtube feature too that you don't even have to scroll down to read it. Now it is just permanently right there on the bottom right of my screen. Thanks a fucking bunch....
Hey everyone, I have been trying to pick up Catan but I have some question regarding the rules. Can anyone help me?
1. Does this game from the video follow the standard rules as the physical copy ?
2. If you roll a 7 or use a knight can you just leave the robbers where they were and steal or are you forced to move them?
3. Can you not use multiple dev cards in the same turn?
4. Can you trade dev cards?
5. In the physical copy there are 5 villages, so you can't build 6. But if you upgrade 1 to a city are you then allowed to build a new village?
1. Yes the rules online here follow the board game rules
2. When 7 is rolled or knight is used you MUST move the robber to different spot, can’t keep it where it is.
3. You can only use 1 dev card per turn. Also you cannot use a dev card the same turn you buy it. However this doesn’t apply to the victory point card as it becomes active right away.
4. You cannot trade dev cards!
5. Yes. After you upgrade from settlement to city your settlement goes back in your building pile and you can now build that settlement that you couldn’t before you built the city.
Hope that makes sense 😎
If you were going to settle on the 8-10 and point toward the 8-4 why didnt u settle on the other 8-10 (the one with desert too) to have options of both the 8-4 and the 9-11 which could be huge for wood. Like there is no benefit of going to the 8-10 spot u did when the other one is just better
I liked the idea of blocking out the wheat port here, I knew expanding was gonna be hard for me this game and I was kinda relying on getting that 3:1 so I had that priority and then the idea of maybe getting on the 84 later if possible, none of which ended up happening this game… lol
I'm not sure if the game has a color blind mode, but the red and brown colors are indistinguishable to me which makes the game hard to follow
Yes they do look similar, but brown is slightly darker
Could've had a sneaky win at the end if you had Year of Plenty'd 2x Brick and then settled on the ore port, and then traded 2 ore for 1 wood and settled again at the 8,4. Close game!
Was thinking the same thing but unfortunately I still don’t think I had the resources to do so. If I had used road building on the prior turn and opened up two settlement spots, then maybe I could’ve won with the year of plenty following turn!
I do not like your second settlement... mostly because you block the Wheat port. I would have taken the 10/8, but near the desert instead of the coast. It allows to go for the 8/4 for more ore/wheat, allow to go for the 3:1 port on the wheat, and also enable you to go to the 9/11 with one less road if you need to
Blocking out the wheat port is actually exactly why I took that spot, I wasn’t going for the wheat port so I’d figure I’d block the other player who pointed their road towards it, in my spot I could still expand to the 84 (even though I was never able to). Tough to tell if the spot you mentioned would’ve impacted the outcome of this game at all
Fun game :)
Thanks! Yeah this was a close one 😎
25:55 - Hey! Not sure if playing multiple dev cards at the same turn is allowed, but if so - you've missed the win here: you could use Year of Plenty to continue the road starting in 3:1 port (that'd have been 3rd in row), then use Road Building to achieve Longest Road before Blue Player and earn the 2 missing points for the victory.
Ofc if that move is not allowed, my plan falls aparat 😛 Can anyone confirm?
Unfortunately you can only play 1 dev card per turn. One thing I could’ve don’t differently was use the road building a turn earlier, then I would’ve had a better chance I think 😎
Thanks, good to know. Yeah, that way could potentially work, but seing that comming Blue would probably rush for the road earlier. GG anyway
play on colonist
I actually did yesterday! My game disconnected and I wasn’t able to reconnect so it wasn’t exactly a great experience lol
@@catanblunders5113 hm, not sure why you wouldnt be able to reconnect, usually you just return to the link. either way good video!
