I remember in college my school's Scifi Fantasy and Gaming club had a massive Catan collection that was multiple sets mixed together. We would play triple blind (you did not know what ports were, what lands generated, or what numbers they activated on until it was built on and we'd flip them) sometimes you would luck out and have a wheat, sheep, and ore all generated on a single roll of 10, other times luck would be against you and your starting settlement was on two deserts.

them evils 7's...i love this game, i feel like it needs to have barbarians that attack the cities and then you would need to build knights to protect them...thanks for all the great vids, love you guys. hugs!
I know I am literally 7 months late but thought I should tell you that there is an expansion to the game that adds exactly that!
It's called Cities and Knights and it adds barbarians that will periodically come raid Catan along with knight tokens you can build to protect Catan OR screw with your friends of course ;).
It also adds some extra resources called Commodities which are only produced by cities and are used to upgrade your cities to unlock extra stuff you can do (better trades/better knights etc.)
Very good expansion. The only complaints I have is that it makes the game significantly longer and even more than the base Catan if you get behind you REALLY get behind.

I'm glad price won, cause for all intents and purposes, he should have DESTROYED everyone if it weren't for those garbage dice rolls. He had very large control over three of the resources that all had decent odds and two ports for two of those resources. Plus he could have easily taken largest army or longest road without any issue if those rolls were better. He really had an amazing board, followed closely by Rik with that 6 wood on a wood port

If they're looking for an alternative way to play Catan or any other board game: Tabletop Simulator on Steam is really great. The only down side is you'd have to know the rules because it won't be full automated like the board games programs they usually play with.
This one is fun.

I'm trying to do homework and watch this, but I simply CANNOT, I've never played Catan before, so I'm literally only two minutes in and I'm so confused 😭😭
If I were jazzy , I would have hated Price so much in this game cuz he legit stole a lot of the resources from jazzy.. btw I agree with you guys , cuz I was born with multiple dialects so my pronunciation in word differs with every different dialect.. people who complained about that probably don't know this world have dialects and everything pronounced differently

I'm calling BS on the RNG code used for rolling 7s...... it feels suspiciously like the game was coded to roll 7 more often than others; which voids the purpose of having RNG.
I agree that the board size should be changeable. The board should be made adaptive, to become larger w/ 3 or more players.
The problem with virtual RNG is that it is biased towards the average. It's hard to simulate true randomness virtually and they tend to lean towards extremes and averages.
@@ZevVeli Not necessarily. 7 is rolled more often because of the real probability. If 1-6 have an equal chance for each dice…the chance of rolling a 7 is higher.
Their complaint is not that it is following the average but that they feel it’s happening in a way that doesn’t average.
Although computer randomness isn’t perfect a lot of the time it is audited for quality. The reality is it’s unpredictabe, sometimes things that are weird happen and it’s actually a sign of randomness. In reality people are bad at creating random sequences by hand.
Could you guys do seafarers next time? I bought it physically and it's great, it has very few new rules but it makes it very fun.
Personally, I like cities and knights best.
@@rinastar1952 I haven't gotten that one yet but it seems amazing. But at the same time I think it might be too much for some people, although I wouled need to play it first. Good thing expansions are compatible with each other.

The pronounciation CATAN is acctually correct, since its a german game and the american way to say CATÄN is not, but i don't want to be a know it all, so do you like you do by saying Adidas or Audi. I am currently searching for my Catan Pc Version, cant find it, i think my mom has it, like the original game of Carcassone from the early 2000s and Monopoly. Hope you play it again, its fun to watch.

Every time I watch stumpt play Catan, I always get confused when they say "they'll trade A for B". English is not my first language, but I really think they're saying it incorrectly?? Like, they say they'll trade A for B but they actually mean they'll trade B for A
I feel like the order doesn't actually matter, in any case? It's context-based.
I think the full expression should be 'I'll trade for A with B" , the thing after 'for" should be what they wish to obtain.
The locals speaks the language with full confidence, so they care less of what's correct.
Just try to put it in context, and don't be afraid to ask them to clarify if needed

Without a time stamp it’s hard to tell but most of the time they said it correctly I think there was one that was confusing.
For example:
I’ll trade wheat for bricks
USUALLY means they will trade THEIR wheat FOR other peoples brick
If they say I want WHEAT for BRICK
Then they want wheat from the other player and they’ll give brick.
Just think of adding a period after the “I’ll trade blank” Basically that is their actions they will take…and after the for, then it’s what will be switched for it…
That’s maybe where you are getting confused. Feel free to give a timestamp though

I love Catan but this shows why it can be a struggle to play and keep it in your gaming rotation. Multiple feel bad points: not getting your numbers rolled, robber chains not adding new resources to the game, and the snowballing of players that are drawing resources.
Feels like for all the rng in the game it's very difficult to catch back up.
I think it’s only a struggle because of some salty players. The reality is that a lot of them where closer than they admit to the end.

I am honestly angry at Ash... He placed a town on the spot to get better wheat trading, but NEVER uses it...and then he says, like all the others, that he has no wheat...
Don't those harbors work the opposite way you're insinuating? He gets a discount on trading if he trades in wheat, he doesn't get a discount on trading for wheat. (I'm watching this while working, so I'm not paying too close of attention btw.)
@kassan they mentioned it in the video…unfortunately at least they way they understood it, the discount was for when using wheat to trade rather than vice versa. He needed wheat to trade for other resources.
