Great Trout. What makes the video perfect, you don’t have some garbage music playing. Nothing better hearing the water flowing as you land that monster. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for all the love and hate! This fish was not a stocked fish. Fish in South Dakota are not pressured and have a high feeding rate. If you know the right spot, big fish are a dime a dozen.
I feel like theres not a fish alive over 6" that is not stocked here in the crowded midwest anymore, except maybe in the muddy Mississippi. Nice catch!
Yeah seems like 50% of fly fisherman enjoy the sport because they like telling other people how they should be doing it. Nice video and GREAT fish! Monster browns on tiny water has got to be one of the most fun ways to fish!
We heard wild fishing tales for generations....it was this BIG.you tube has finally confirmed a great deal of those epic tales to be true.Just a beast son.well done
Great job netting that fat Brown without hurting him. And handling & releasing him gently so y’all can catch him again! The Small streams are my favorite for Big trout here in N.C. PA too. And always let those breeders live on. Tnx for sharing man!
fish look different on video, that was 25 inches and at least 5 to 6 pounds, glad he didnt run down stream, may have emptied ur spoil, beautiful fish, great catch
I never understood why the Black Hills was never a go to destination for trout fishing. I grew up part of my life in Rapid City and used to fish below Pactola Reservoir for Browns back in the late 1960's and early 70's.
I have yet to learn how to fly fish but I think I could cast it alright understand the line is the weight and all that. But the loose line and reeling is what looks tough. and 3wt? is that how small or heavy this rod is?
Just takes time and practice. I can’t recommend fly fishing enough. I used to be a die hard conventional guy and now I have sold all my gear and switched to nothing but fly fishing. Can’t explain the feeling of catching a fish on a fly, especially one you’ve created.
my pb(measured and all the fun junk) was 24 inches. this fish **appeared** to be a good 4-6 inches smaller than mine. it may just be the size of your hands but still.
Me too. What a load of panty waisters! Given the clickbait we are offered elsewhere routinely, why cavil at this? It's a nice fish from difficult looking surroundings, and since a man's span is 8-9 inches and the fish is pretty thin and long tailed I'm happy to applaud the cited 25 incher.
I fish a local small creek and regularly catch rainbow that run around 12" with my 3 weight rod. They feel large on that setup, I can only imagine catching a 25" trout! That would be a blast.
I don't know what this creek/river is like but I'd guess when water was high he moved down below that culvert pipe and now can't get back into deeper water. Hopefully he'll move up or down with bigger runoff...
nicely done, very good work not breaking the tippet! were you using 6X or 5X? were you using a wet fly? i keep hearing we cant use them on a 3wt, i have one myself but have not yet used it. (winter)
I routinely use my 3-wt in winter/spring with a nymph indicator rig and does fine. Obviously, I avoid false casting as much as possible and I use a wool/NZ indicator to offset weight and provide a nice soft presentation in small streams. Get em'!
Creek looks like a mud hole. It is though a big brown. I think more like 23" but if he wants to say 25" that's okay. I do though think it is a stocked fish. The tail is beat up and it is just unlikely that a wild fish could grow that big in such a tiny piece of water as there isn't enough food.
many fertile streams have fish at that size or bigger, seen 28" fish come out of holes that size. that wasnt a 25" like you said, but still a nice fish. definitely wild.
Matt Duncan What makes you so sure it was a wild fish? Are you the fellow who caught it? sometimes when a stocked trout survives a couple of years it begins to look like a wild fish. I think that is fine but what I don't like is too see big hatchery trout that have all beat up tail fins and clipped pectoral fins.
If you can't rule out natural reproduction doesn't occur...then you can't say its a stocker and he cant say it's wild. It has all its fins, there is for sure enough food, and his tail has a boo boo..could be anything. Who cares its a great fish and it took skill.
I'm familiar with that stream and that small creek is a tributary to a larger creek that holds big fish. Sometimes they move up this spring branch in the summer.
Browns, at least where I live, are very wary of anything with a hook on it. I hooked one while ice fishing on the tiniest lure possible and it broke off at the hole. Most people never get the chance to even hook one.
Shows you know nothing about fishing. I’ve caught 30+ inch brown trout in Upstate NY all these time in streams just like this. Tributaries. Learn the fisheries.
Great Trout. What makes the video perfect, you don’t have some garbage music playing. Nothing better hearing the water flowing as you land that monster. Thanks for sharing
fully agree
Also what makes this clip perfect is that you’re using a click and pawl reel and not some disc drag BS.
Caught the King of the pool! Fantastic trout, congrats! Always amazes me to see what big browns can live in a small creek!

efalkenberg13 nice fish bro I just subbed please sub back. And post more good vids thanks
Very nice fish! Well done 👍🏾
Great catch, I’d imagine you were using 5X? On a 3 weight that thing was going where ever it wanted to lol. Well done!
Good job on getting that beauty back in the water quickly. Beautiful fish.
Nice fish buddy, tks for releasing
We heard wild fishing tales for generations....it was this BIG.you tube has finally confirmed a great deal of those epic tales to be true.Just a beast son.well done
Iam so glad you released that fish good job.
Great fishing great casting cracking fish
Great job netting that fat Brown without hurting him. And handling

This reminds me of me catching a bonito on my three weight rod. Have fun
Any trout over 20" is a great fish and difficult to land on a tiny fly! Nice work!
i bet you wont forget this day anytime soon! NICE!
How’d you catch that without looking like you walked out of fly fishing catalogue?!?! Great fish, and so cool that you found it in such a small pocket
DAMN ! NICE BROWN ! WELL DONE .
nice patience working that fish.
Great fish! Great fishing! Makes me itch ...
fish look different on video, that was 25 inches and at least 5 to 6 pounds, glad he didnt run down stream, may have emptied ur spoil, beautiful fish, great catch
Well done playing that fish! Like a boss.
Wonderful job of landing the fish.
Nice catch, cant believe it is in such unfavorable conditions - bright sun, skinny water, and fish must see angler from such short distance
Big fish ... from a little puddle ... on a little stick. Well done!
Great vid and fish congratulations
Awesome fish congratulations

Awesome catch 👍🏼🍻
lot of skill, and a beautiful catch
Just goes to show that you can beat the water to death in one spot and still pull out fish! Nice 0ne!
Looks 25 to me. Nice job!
I didnt think it was 25" until you netted it. Holy cow
Beautiful fish!
Amazing to catch a trout that size in such shallow water. Good job .
Wow - were you using a wet fly?
I live in the great lakes, where 25 inch browns are the norm, and that one is skinny but definatly close to 22-25. Nice fish for a teeny creek!
Good job landing that monster. That is a life reaffirming moment.
Nicest stream trout video,thanks.
Maybe 20". But a nice fish none the less.
Much bigger than 20" but not 25" either.
I've caught, and measured, hundreds of 17" - 22" trout and that brown is 20" maybe 21".
easily low 20s.
Matt Troutman Sorry. I call bullshit.
Meximan of Steel yeah he looks over 20
Very nice fish and very nice job netting it. Period :)
That trout is a beauty and large for such a small stream! Great job fighting him on a 3wt, no trout in FL sadly. Great video!
30 inch 11 pound browns push up in creeks. All depends on time of year. They chase other spawning fish....🤐
What is your set up? and the pack?
what a pleasure to see. Well done all the way around
Beautiful Trout!
I have yet to learn how to fly fish but I think I could cast it alright understand the line is the weight and all that. But the loose line and reeling is what looks tough. and 3wt? is that how small or heavy this rod is?
Toto Tojo it's a smaller rod and reel with lighter line.
Just takes time and practice. I can’t recommend fly fishing enough. I used to be a die hard conventional guy and now I have sold all my gear and switched to nothing but fly fishing. Can’t explain the feeling of catching a fish on a fly, especially one you’ve created.
what rod were you using. me and my dad backpack a lot, so I was looking for a 2 or 3 wt rod. thanks.
the maxcatch ultralight fly rod is a good backpacking rod and you can get it cheap on Amazon.
very very nice. congratulations.
What rod length is that
Sleepiest brown I've ever seen. Still jealous, nice job.
Jesus, u get within 30 feet of a creek that low where I live and they spook for hours lol. Well done sir
May I ask what kind of fly rod and reel is that?
That's a beauty.. Good job.
What size leader and tippet were you using??? Great catch!!
my pb(measured and all the fun junk) was 24 inches. this fish **appeared** to be a good 4-6 inches smaller than mine. it may just be the size of your hands but still.
beautiful brown!
So many jealous trolls on this comment thread
Thats what I was thinking.

Very nice!
Near what city in Black Hills was this taken
Hunting and Fishing with Alex the closest city is Spearfish, S.D. The best fishing you've never heard of!
Although 3 years ago; Congrats man.
there was a 10 inch brown trout in my toilet this morning.
Nice job. Patient.
Simple hares ear easy
to tie and very effective.
woooooow that’s a beautiful fish
nicely done, very good work not breaking the tippet! were you using 6X or 5X?

@@jdp11284 Thanks!
Are these native trout ?
Harry Hathaway browns were brought here from england.
Well land that thing wow!! Talking about wearing a fish out!
2 minutes and 15 second fight is wearing it out?
great trout 👍
Never underestimate them small streams. Sweet fish bro :)
That fish oughta have a name. She should have a damn mailbox.
Thing of beauty.

oh I can tell.. it was 23.3
I'm familiar with that stream and that small creek is a tributary to a larger creek that holds big fish. Sometimes they move up this spring branch in the summer.
I dont think it is 25 inches but more like 21-23... that creek private?
Public water
Nice fish man... and forget all the nay sayers, I'm going with 25 an nd a half inches, nice catch
A hare's ear is not a dry fly. That should be obvious since he's using an indicator.
Actually I have seen Hares Ear tied as a dry fly, same rough rabbit body but with wings and hackle.
parachute hares ear man...
indicator fishing is not fly fishing wet or dry only ..czech nymphing etc is not fly fishing the only thing in common is a fly rod and reel
since when is a hare's a "Dry Fly?"
Don’t see it being posted as a Dry...... ??????
Nice 19" brown
Nice fish.

I think you stretched the size a little bit ! lol
James Brede lol yeah ;)
Lol yea def not 25 but still a solid fish for sure
That fish would do close to 25 inches but its not in the best condition though but still a fish around the 3 1/2lb to 4lb mark
James Brede only size I stretch is my squirmy worm
As you can see at the right side of the pool, they also grow some monster pineapples in South Dakota...
Like fishing in a barrel. The stream is so shallow.
Nice one bro
No Freaking way a fish that large lives in such a small creek, great find!
@captain poostab I beg to differ I have caught bigger in smaller trout are an amazing animal
that's small were i from
