Excellent video. I have this truck and it’s great as long as you understand what you are purchasing. With the holidays upon us I can hand this truck over to family and friends and not worry about them destroying my faster more capable vehicles! All around win win for my situation. I think the price is fair for what you get, no need to complain about prices, just find something that fits your budget and have FUN!
The "new" Stampede is just a Hoss light. The Hoss isn't going anywhere. It is not discontinued and offers some advantages over the Stampede. As of this morning the older 2wd Stampede platform is still on the Traxxas site as well as the Bigfoot which shares the same chassis.
When you started talking about the servo and the horn at the bottom of the stampede and hoss, yes, even though it seems like its exposed Ive had no issues with rocks, obstacles, or debris messing with it. Though, the linkage with the small nut on it does flex and rubs the center driveshaft (aluminum, I have the hoss). Its carved a nice perfect ring around it over time and is probably razor thin at this point, but so far so good...
Only sign of damage on my Hoss is some paint scraped off the bottom of the metal part in the linkage, and a line where the linkage has scraped away the anodizing on the driveshaft from hitting it when it comes off jumps. Other than that, there’s no damage
People can say what they want about the Stampede. I bought one and swapped the motor and ESC out of my Bandit VXL. Along with a 13 tooth pinion it’s great. The bandit still does wheelies with the BL-2S motor and ESC so no regrets.
Great video again Greg and Happy Holiday's to you and your family. I'm torn between this or the rally being the best BL-2S releases. Hopefully you get the rally soon.
100%. The BL-2S stuff is not worth the money whatsoever unless you are a Traxxas purist. MT10/Granite/Stampede the Stampede is 15-25mph slower for the same price SC10/Senton/Slash the Slash is 15-25mph slower for the same price Vorteks/Rustler the Rustler is 25mph slower for the same price. And all of the ARRMA and Associated trucks are just as tough, if not tougher. I don't understand Traxxas at all. Not bad rigs by any means, but the BL-2S rigs shouldn't cost more than $280.
Great review and look at the truck Greg. I almost think this would be the perfect truck to bash around the back yard with. Because on 2S it won’t “overspeed” the backyard. And it’s tough out the box with the parts included. Perfect winter yard bashed. I might scoop the blue one up for this purpose and don’t have to feel to bad about running it in all conditions 👍🇨🇦☃️
How have they not upgraded to threaded body aluminum shocks yet in these new updates is beyond me. I mean to keep the same shocks for the past 10-15 years all while their prices have gone up is crazy. I mean what would the cost be on their end to upgrade them? Not much in the long run and even if they added a extra $5-$10 on the cost to the customer would be worth it for some hobby grade shocks!
I have the 2x4 WD and enjoyed it, but knew the 4x4 was going to be fun. I just purchased one today. It is a totally different animal than any Traxxas Car I own. I am impressed at the quality of the Truck. I will be replacing the Stock shocks because I bend shock rods easily on ALL of my stock shocks.
Can’t see too much of a reason to go with this over the Granite BLX for the same price. The one advantage that the Stampede has is the clipless body. The Granite is so much faster on 2s, let alone 3s.
Change your shock oil when it gets dirty. Check the diffs to make sure they have sufficient fluid after perhaps 6-7 months. Other than that, its a boss car and does not need too much maintenance from my experience.
Did you build your own track? I have 1/2 a acre I’m building a track on and would love a video on how to build a rc track. Like best incline, material, borders ect
Weird...my stampede from like 8 years ago was bad ass fast, it's major downfall was the ballooning tires😂could do 60+....but couldnt do it without a full rebuild😂
So they’ve downgraded the Hoss in some areas and upgraded it in others….Yea no thanks Traxxas, I’ll stick with our Hoss and upgrade it when it ever needs it
Exactly. I love the hoss. I bought the extreme HD kit. MIP axles. I wanna get a esc and motor kit for it and get all the gearing switched over to better metal and machining. Crazy strong servo. I'm a noob and don't know what route to take. Definitely proline belted tires for my hoss.
Idk if it’s just a me thing but my biggest turn off for traxxas is the proprietary “Traxxas ID connectors”. So unless I want to fit a new connector and void the warranty I’d have to buy a $70 battery and $60 charger I can only use with traxxas models. And the worst part is (idk if they still do this now) the cheaper models that included a battery and charger included a car charger. So unless I had an adapter or the aforementioned $60 charger I could only charge the battery in my car.
First of all, the vehicles that come with a NIMh battery & charger now come with USB-C chargers, not a car charger. Second, adapters exist. Just use an adapter and run cheaper LiPOs if you don’t want to buy Traxxas ones
Kinda funny all the complaints here, the 2wd Stampede is $199 with an XL5 setup and a battery and charger, which is actually a really good price for what you get and it’s no longer available brushless from what I’m seeing on their site. This Stampede 4x4 has the BL2s and is $329 and the Hoss is $429 with the vxl3s and they’re both beasts! Seems to me that they’re streamlining their product line and trying to make it better! I’m guessing the people that are complaining are also expecting to make $20 an hour flipping burgers or stocking shelves?? lol jk but seriously the costs have gone up for everything so this makes sense. And this truck is built to be an absolute beast! I just looked at one yesterday at the hobby shop and it’s way stronger looking than my old stampede 4x4! And as far as speed goes I could really care less about doing more than 25-30mph because after that you’re just going in a straight line and that is boring to me, I’d rather go run on a track or maybe a skate park. And I’m happy the traxxas stuff doesn’t change constantly, I’ve got other stuff that’s maybe 10 years old or so that I can’t find parts for because they either discontinued or “upgraded” it for basically no other reason than to get you to spend more money…
Ive never broken the servo saver, but I broke the 2075 servo the second or third time driving my Stampede VXL 2wd when i hit a fence at 10-15 mph. I thought it would be a little more durable than that. I put a 2075x in it, (i wanted the 2075r but my local hobby store didn’t have it in stock at the time.) and haven’t had an issue since.
it's a 10 scale monster truck that doesn't need $200 of upgrades to be durable it definitely does move the needle I don't know what you think would probably your favorite brand right? sigh
My very first "real" RC car was a Traxxas Nitro Rustler purchased about 25 years ago. It was a lot of fun and got me into RC. Still like Traxxas to this day and they based out of TX and have great warranty/customer service. Quick question...Is this the same basic chassis as the slash 4x4?
What might be the reason I lose rear traction with this model? The front will spin but the back just sounds like it’s winding. I cannot figure it out and don’t want to have to give up on the truck
I'm fairly new to the hobby I have a few traxxas crawlers got my hands on a little arrma granite grom other day and absolutely love it!! Thinking about picking up one of these this week so I can go to the park with the basher guys and ramps. Should i pick this unit up or a rustled 4x4 ? 🤔
Always enjoy the Traxxas content. I'd like to see Traxxas come out with a rock bouncer. Something to complement the Ryft. Thats just me. Have a good Christmas, cheers!!!
You mean the things that should be on the base model but haven't so that traxxas can over charge for the standard replacement and the optional replacement when it breaks
Thing is, with the current pricing Traxxas has, a Hoss 4x4 Ultimate would never sell. Why? Because it would be $530-550 and that’s almost the same price as the Maxx ($570). It would be much more worth it to get the Maxx at that point, at least on my opinion.
As a proud Hoss owner the new Stampede 4X4 annoys me. Aside from being 3S, gyro, and the big ol’ 540XL motor it don’t seem as cool now. Or maybe I’m still mad at myself for not buying a Maxx 🤦🏼♂️
lighter fragile stampede was a hell of a lot more fun than maxx. just from listening to the chassis smash on the ground on every single jump and the understressed chassis you know the things gonna be very durable however, it just doesn't seem very fun compared to a real stampede on three cell. I was thinking about buying a stampede for nostalgia and I just think the Bigfoot is the way to go for $100 I can make it three brushless backflips reinforced driveline and basically much much funner than this truck. One thing I've always liked about Traxxas is they bring a truck out and support it forever and rarely discontinue Which is Horizon trademark so I'd be very disappointed if I owned the hoss right now because you're paying for that long-term support from Traxxas. I don't care about Traxxas prices the prices is the price but they seem to be releasing trucks way too often now and missing the mark occasionally too so why bother go back to releasing a new truck every year or two that redefines the industry This truck is sold with a two cell ESC so people buy the maxx and that's stupid and greedy
Ok....finally a legitimate review of this new Traxxas release. All others I've seen were more focused on what this truck doesn't have rather than what it does!!! This truck quite simply is intended for beginners to intermediate rc enthusiasts. Traxxas, without any doubt, leads the way in RC cars and trucks!!! Great video here!!!!
I truly hope they retired the Hoss name. It truly was a weird thing having it and the long running Stampede. Everyone complaining about price of Traxxas products you are in wrong hobby. They have probably the best parts availability in all hobby shops.
As usual, great review, Greg. Thank you! From a product streamlining point of view, this makes a lot of sense. It didn't really make sense to have a second monster truck based on the same platform components as the Stampede that was competing with the Stampede and the Maxx. I'm guessing when they sell out of the Hoss, they'll release a VXL version of this new Stampede. I do have a Hoss, and I like it, so I'm glad to see the basic truck continue as a Stampede.
It would have made more sense to have the Hoss be the replacement for the Stampede. They completely re-worked the design with the Hoss, so that would have been better. Who knows, they might still do that.
Awesome review Greg, thank you for clearing up the history of (and merging of) this product. I was wondering what happened to the Hoss. I have a son coming soon and in maybe 3-4 years when he's ready for driving RCs (he's gonna watch daddy a lot until then) this looks like a great choice. I bet I could even put street tires on it and it could be a great driveway racer too.
I think Traxxas has something going on they're slowly changing stuff over for something my hat's off to them reading through the comments really blows my mind but hey to each their own I dig my Traxxas RC's rather fun actually great reviews always brother keep up the good work traxxas!
I don't want opinions from people that have it on these I would like to talk to somebody in the hobby who has the most of them that I want and can give me honest opinion I don't want fanboys giving comments on modelss I have never owned the arrma granite And associate. I'm talking all things to be in the same I want to know who makes the most rugged without aftermarket which is the most fun out of the box
for all the idiots because this is now going on decades if you don't like Traxxas products don't buy them. negative posting on social so old and worthless . if you can afford them they're the best out there and there's plenty of good competition too. as far as the vehicle itself if you love the stampede you love this more and that's all there is to it. I'm not married to any brand I've had the most success with Traxxas but I have not loved all their models the maxx in particular I never liked much at all, for what it cost. but I didn't run out tell everybody the max sucks Traxxas sucks everything sucks it's just getting so old it's a fun hobby and the Internet has made it more worldwide and widespread but also 100 times more toxic and stupid, just go out have fun and don't wreck it while RC is momentarily popular again within a few years will be all alone on these channels again and some of us are probably looking forward to that
$330 for a 30mph 2S truck thats not any tougher than a 50mph Granite or Rival MT10 for the same price.. not appealing whatsoever The BL-2S stuff is not worth the money whatsoever unless you are a Traxxas purist. The only thing you get with Traxxas is their part support. And Arrma is getting close to matching them (at least in my 3 local hobby shops). I dont get it, Traxxas. $280 max
The Hoss really didn't make a lot of sense to me. Why buy the Hoss when the Maxx wasn't a lot of money more and a heck of an upgrade for the difference. It was a step up from the Stampede, much of of the changes between them made it a good RC overall. The Stampede is an aging design that needed an update more than just a refresh. Puting the Stampede name on the Hoss chassis with a motor downgrade makes a lot of sense. The Hoss still isn't a great upgrade path, though. The Maxx is still a better value. What I predict is that the Hoss with go away and a new VXL Stampede will show up. But hear me out, I think the 10th scale VXL system is on it's way out as well. I think Traxxas is doing a ground up revamp of the their entire product line. People have snapped up a lot of new vehicles coming out and I suspect sales are slumping on their older models. Why buy a Slash 4x4 for bashing when a Maxx will out bash it in every way? With the Maxx on the market why buy a Stampede or Hoss? Slash and Slash 4x4 are staples for beginers, but the racing crowd has all but moved away from them because everyone else has brought up newer models. Traxxas stagnated, until the Maxx came out. Lets not forget that the crawler segment is exploding. I'm going to put money on new electronics for the TRX4/6 line up soon as well. The reason why I say that is because you can get brushless in their competitors and one of the most frequent upgrades is the motor and ESC to brushless. I predict Traxxas is planning a steady stream of new models over the course of the next couple of years.
It's almost as if traxxas has finally seen just how far behind they have fallen what with most of there platforms only getting minor cosmetic changes for the past 10 plus years
What I really don’t understand about this truck is just the fact that it LITERALLY a Hoss with a lower powered system, the Extreme-HD upgrade kit, and lacking a few accessories that the Hoss has, and yet they called it a Stampede. Why not just retire the Stampede name, and name this a Hoss 4x4 BL-2S. That would have made much more sense. Also, pricing. $330 is way too much for this truck, and competes with other vehicles like the Arrma Granite. I think $230-250 would have been a much better price for this truck.
Traxxas is a market bully company with break on purpose parts and overpriced platforms. They also have 15 to 20 year old designs in most of their vehicles. They have good marketing so they reach the rookie RC consumer first. So many better brands.
Traxxas mada a lit of Spare parts and team assicieted and tamyia .and kyoscho. Dont 😕they make .a car and pass one ear or more dont make more Spare parts😕this is the problem it thus rc brands !e livr in europe and if i buy.one of this in europe tge dpsre parts is a big problem.!😕😕
I’m a first time Traxxas owner and I bought this 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it!!! 💯

Couldn’t agree more! So much hate for Traxxas. They have best support and the Xmaxx fit my budget this year so I finally bought it.
Basically a 2S Hoss
To be fair a hoss is basically a v2 stampede 4x4 vxl
The "new" Stampede is just a Hoss light. The Hoss isn't going anywhere. It is not discontinued and offers some advantages over the Stampede. As of this morning the older 2wd Stampede platform is still on the Traxxas site as well as the Bigfoot which shares the same chassis.
Yup, we’ll still see the variations of the 4wd platforms around, but I got some indications we’ll see some changes in the future.
@rcdriver used the new system in the RUSTLER and STAMPEDE 4X4 but nothing as of yet for the 2wd stampede ,with the upgraded version.
Hoss did in fact go somewhere
We need more 4x4 RC trucks.
Great show. Thanks for all your work
Great video again Greg and Happy Holiday's to you and your family. I'm torn between this or the rally being the best BL-2S releases. Hopefully you get the rally soon.
It’s a 2s Hoss😂
I'd go for the MT10. Hard to beat it for the price.
Defo. MT10 takes a pounding and can hit 40mph on 3s. This does around 24 on 2s. I know speed isn't everything but come on.
100%. The BL-2S stuff is not worth the money whatsoever unless you are a Traxxas purist.
MT10/Granite/Stampede the Stampede is 15-25mph slower for the same price
SC10/Senton/Slash the Slash is 15-25mph slower for the same price
Vorteks/Rustler the Rustler is 25mph slower for the same price.
And all of the ARRMA and Associated trucks are just as tough, if not tougher. I don't understand Traxxas at all. Not bad rigs by any means, but the BL-2S rigs shouldn't cost more than $280.

That truck with that power system I would think would be almost unbreakable.
So is the Hoss slated to be disco'd now? It really was a bit of an odd duck, so I'm pleased.
I think Traxxas has something going on they're slowly changing stuff over for something my hat's off to them reading through the comments really blows my mind but hey to each their own I dig my Traxxas RC's rather fun actually great reviews always brother keep up the good work traxxas!
So is this better than the Hoss or not?
❤❤❤
I don't want opinions from people that have it on these I would like to talk to somebody in the hobby who has the most of them that I want and can give me honest opinion I don't want fanboys giving comments on modelss I have never owned the arrma granite And associate. I'm talking all things to be in the same I want to know who makes the most rugged without aftermarket which is the most fun out of the box
Calm down. Don't buy it then.
for all the idiots because this is now going on decades if you don't like Traxxas products don't buy them. negative posting on social so old and worthless . if you can afford them they're the best out there and there's plenty of good competition too.
as far as the vehicle itself if you love the stampede you love this more and that's all there is to it. I'm not married to any brand I've had the most success with Traxxas but I have not loved all their models the maxx in particular I never liked much at all, for what it cost. but I didn't run out tell everybody the max sucks Traxxas sucks everything sucks it's just getting so old
it's a fun hobby and the Internet has made it more worldwide and widespread but also 100 times more toxic and stupid, just go out have fun and don't wreck it while RC is momentarily popular again within a few years will be all alone on these channels again and some of us are probably looking forward to that
$330 for a 30mph 2S truck thats not any tougher than a 50mph Granite or Rival MT10 for the same price.. not appealing whatsoever
The only thing you get with Traxxas is their part support. And Arrma is getting close to matching them (at least in my 3 local hobby shops). I dont get it, Traxxas. $280 max
Traxxas. Made for rich people and not even worth the money you spend🤮
Hoss clone
Jk
It's almost as if traxxas has finally seen just how far behind they have fallen what with most of there platforms only getting minor cosmetic changes for the past 10 plus years
@@cazadon Honestly, one can hope.
I think $230-250 would have been a much better price for this truck.
its really slow
Traxxas is a market bully company with break on purpose parts and overpriced platforms. They also have 15 to 20 year old designs in most of their vehicles. They have good marketing so they reach the rookie RC consumer first. So many better brands.
This car is boring out of the box, extremely slow, as slow as a 2s Brushed model…
New stampede ugly old looks better
Overpriced!
