I just started working there, it is hard work and the mail NEVER ENDS. You never complete a job, the next shift takes over and you pass the torch. I sweat in that warehouse. I love it though.

LOL, why are people assuming that these employees are unhappy? These are most likely not candid video shots so these employees most likely know that they're being recorded for some kind of training/promotional video. That said, do you think someone laughing or smiling by themself is considered normal? I'm pretty sure if you saw someone like that on the street you'd want to stay away from them ....LOL.
I work at the plant, and while there are your fair share of grumps (just like any other workplace), they aren't the majority. A lot of people are shooting the shit while in passing, and this video doesn't include footage in the break/lunch rooms. Trust me, the plant is not that depressing. I came from the stations, and I think plant life is much better than station life.

Become career, take a bunch of OT...yeah, you're making bank in fairly short order for an accessible job. Not the worst place to work.

I've been trying to get in the USPS since 2007 to add to my military time. Although I was chosen as a rural carrier in 2020, I turned it down because my truck was still under warranty and didnt want to convert it to drive on the right side. Fast forward to 2022 i got hired as a City Carrier Assistant on 12-3-2022 and just finished the 3 days of OTJ on 1-12-23. And now I'm off for who knows how long because they've hired too many people. I'm surely not going to be getting the same hours/experience as the CCA's before me as I'm the 7 CCA with another one on the way and in a town of less than 10,000 people. At 50 y/o, I probably wouldn't have applied if I knew memory was a big part of it. My branch office most definitely ISN'T setting me up to succeed.

Hang in there, you will know most of the routes in 6 months. Don't worry about hours, there's always plenty of work. Don't forget that CCA's can work rural routes. Plus you can get sent to other offices. Your eligible for a pension after 12 years minus CCA time.

Lots of involuntary OT and not having a set schedule when you're not a regular employee makes it so that you don't really have a life while working at the post office. Postal management on average is not that great as well, but some of them that rose from the craft ranks tend to be more understanding.

    • @epochseven4197

Really? A lot of carriers (regulars as well) are forced to work lots of involuntary OT since the pandemic increased the package volume to make it seem like the holiday peak season never ended.
A good number of plant employees used to be carriers who changed crafts and transferred to the plant because their bodies couldn't handle the physical stress anymore.
A lot of boomers are retiring so GenX/Y and even zoomers are increasingly replacing their positions. That said, the plant workforce seems to be getting happier (at my plant, at least).
