  • An antique dehumidifier with good old refrigerant 12. Quality that will never be replicated again.

Late 60s Electrohome, made in Kitchener Ontario not far from where I lived when I was young.Buletproof machine that just needs a clean and fan motor lube once per year.

I live very close to its build town. I’m in Stratford Ontario. This is a great machine but unfortunately is slightly down on its r12 charge. I have plans to fix it up one day. For now it sits on a shelf.

That's a neat machine. Every dehumidifier I've ever used or worked on has the air flow through the evaporator then the condenser. It's better for the compressor that way, but I'd think the inverse would be a better design as that would probably completely eliminate the frost issue.

It’s definitely different! Any clue on how I can date it? I’ve had it apart and cleaned it as well as oiling the fan motor and I can’t find any information.

@@ardiemclelland2039 If you could show a picture of the insides, I could give you an approximation. Hard to tell from the outside, some of these didn't change much for decades.

Wow. That is definitely from the late 50’s early 60’s

I think you’re right as the cord isn’t grounded. I had it apart and never seen any numbers.

I have a similar machine that has worked flawlessly for years. Now it appears that the humidistat is not working properly. Do you know where to buy parts? I could not easily find an online source.

I bet a new humidistat would be available on Amazon, eBay etc. I try to reuse parts from broken machines before I buy anything new. But I have had luck with fan motors off of Amazon so I’m sure the humidistats are a fine replacement. Just make sure it’s a dial type with the same amount of wires. Good luck.
