Probably from some time in the 1980's. I didn't get a whole lot of information on it, but it's got such a really nice startup sound. Still works like day 1, wouldn't expect anything less!

Sounds like my 38 pint mastercraft when the fan is set to low. I could watch these videos all day... I wish someone would bring back a retro machine.

Yeah I wish they still made decent dehumidifiers like this, but those days are long gone. You want a good machine, you have to find a vintage one, plain and simple as that.

jaykay18 I completely agree with that statement. Off topic but I’m not sure what I’m going to do when my old comfortermaker ac decides to give up the ghost. I have several friends/family with new central systems installed and they need run caps replaced every couple years! It’s sad.

I'm thinking that dehumidifier may have been made prior to 1975 because that's when Westinghouse sold off it's appliance division to White Consolidated Industries and at that point Westinghouse appliances were re-branded White Westinghouse.

+tallboyyyy That very well may be true, but I think it's newer than that. I remember xjoe81x telling me his dad bought it. I don't know when they got their house, it was some time in the 70s for sure. Probably later 70s. I'll see if I can find out any more information.

Jay, not sure if you have heard of such a model...growing up, my parents had a Thomas A. Edison Celebrity dehumidifier in the basement where I used to sleep with my brother...I loved the sound of that machine and I remember turning it on all the time because it would strangely relax me and help me to sleep....We are in the process of selling their house and I grabbed that unit and plugged it in downstairs.....still works like a charm!....Paul

+gospos1 Wow, that's cool. You are now forever indebted to the UA-cam community to make a video of it!

Nice, I have the Custom 20, almost just like this one that was handed down to me once i bought a house. Still working fine. Remembered it being old and scary even when i was 4 of 5 years old (talking mid 80s here) so I'm guessing these are older than 80s. Curious how you clean these each year (maintenence etc.) if anyone has a manual i'd love to see it.

I don't own this one but was lucky to get a video of it. Therefore, no manual either. For cleaning, take it outside, open the case, and spray it down with the hose. No need to worry about anything inside staying dry, it's all fine. Then take a spray cleaner such as Simple Green and spray it all down, let sit for 5 minutes, rinse, and let dry.

but jaaaaaaaay, if only you herd the compressor startup sound on the ice machine at the firehouse!
have you ever herd of a dehumidifier with hot gas defrost?

+kody mackey As far as the ice machine, maybe it sounded so awesome because it was getting ready to catch fire!
For the dehumidifier, yes, I have heard one before.

Now where are all the splitters for that outlet?! I love the sound of these old units.. Could listen to it all day and not be bothered by it.. Unlike the ones of today they sound like crap.. And look at that manual dial there,, will probably never break..
The scent thing in front of the switch is something that would drive me absolutely insane..
Wow that was quite odd to see you without facial hair!

    • @jaykay18
      @jaykay18  8 років тому

+Jordan U Yeah I can listen to that all day too! I don't get the scent thing in front of the light switch either, it's got to be accessible. This isn't my house, so it is what it is. I used to do field work, and some people live in absolutely deplorable conditions. I've seen all kinds of things.
I get rid of the beard and whatnot in the spring and keep it off until the end of summer usually. I call it the winter beard. Keeps me warm, or something like that.

jaykay18 Some people do some pretty outrageous things.. I see.. I keep mine all the time.. Saves me 15 minutes every day not having to shave..

jaykay18 True, that's less time I have to run the incandescent lights in the bathroom!
