    awesome job. Just as you thank God for your son and his desire to be an outdoorsman, I too am thankful for my boys. My youngest is hooked on fishing, trapping and hunting. I'm prayerful that what we are doing will benefit him throughout life like your son. Thank you for posting

    My local fur buyer is offering $5 a pelt for green beaver hides. I wish I was as fast as your son! My primary motivation for trapping beaver is the meat and the bounty I make on control jobs.

    Taylor caught over 350 beaver that year. I caught over 1200. He was a full time college student. We don't put up fur because of our climate and the 14 hour days we put in. At the time he also was working over 30 hrs a week at his apt complex. We were getting paid by the beaver to catch them. He was skinning over 100 beaver a week and sometimes over thirty otters a week. Our fur buyer was charging less than 5$ to put them up. We made the right decision based on our circumstances.

      OK but the animal is completely naked. That's not nice then. If you're naked in it yourself, would that be better or not?

    it was a thirty pound beaver. By the time he was done the hide weighted 15 and the body was 15 pounds. Its good to be fast but don't waste it.

    How long had the beaver been dead?
    How warm/cold was the beaver?
    What kind of knife was he using?

    Taylor skinned over 900 that year. The money all went to paying for college. We sold our fur green due to the need to spend the time catching them for the awful damage beaver were doing. The buyer only took mature 2 year old beaver or older due to a weak southern market. (no nicks or cuts) Hides averaged 10 pounds on the truck. Our state does not allow the sale of the beaver meat. We had people that needed it for their animals. What a waste.

    The naked animal please not just throw away so eventually it has just given you its fur. If you pull it off then please with respect against over the animal. Thank you.

    I'm sorry - when I posted my comment I totally failed to see your side of the scenario. I was only thinking that if you took the beaver meat you could save a lot of money on food, which might save you money in the long run.
    I guess that's just a girl's perspective though - I'm more interested in cooking it than selling it, haha. I love the taste of beaver. :)

    sure he did it fast but made a huge mess and didn't get everything off the hide so you obviously have to go back and re-clean the hide.

    • @kirkdekalb
      @kirkdekalb  10 років тому +2

      When Taylor did this video he was going to college full time. Had two jobs and was driving home 4 hrs one way twice a week to skin for money for college. The hides were purchased by buyers that had machines to handle them. To be critical of such shows lack of understanding how it all works. I know of no other with such a work ethic. He now has graduated as an engineer with very good grades and passed his EIT test, working for an engineering company.

    • @amberjames6918
      @amberjames6918 10 років тому +1

      I said nothing of his capabilities, just that he made a big mess. I am just learning about skinning beavers, that is why I comment. I want to learn things and if you thought I was trying to be rude I apologize for that. I definitely was not.

  • @Varsuvias
    @Varsuvias 11 років тому

    As cool and amazing as his is, I feel like it is quite a waste. Skinning the beaver this fast only means so much more working fleshing it latter, as there was so much meat and fat left on it. Plus, that beaver carcass was cut to bits, so it would be quite hard to eat.
    Regardless, thanks so much for the impressive and informative video! God bless.
