She used to scare me so bad when she performed because she is going so high and moving so fast, no gymnast could move like that. Go head Dominique, damn!
LOVE this routine! You go Dominique! She was so happy at the end and I was crying with her too! Kelli Hill was tearing up to. Definitely a sign of things to come.
she was really banged up summer 92... didn't c her w/out the ankle bandages again until spring 93. this is the only time i can remember ever seeing her have 2 crank & double pump 2 make that combination middle pass. still spectacular but she must've really been hurting.
SHE IS THE ONLY GYMNAST THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN GO INTO TWO TUMBLING PASSES BACK TO BACK....yes, maybe shannon miller has more difficult routines (whom I also love) but dominique dawes sticks her landings more...it's a hard choice between the two...!
I think the reason for the biggest cheers here is because the Trials were held in Baltimore so of course the biggest cheers will go to the homestate girl!
I like to think Oksana opened up the possibility for it-- her's was sublime! But tumbling was a bit diff back then.. DD took the double pass to a whole new height!
@Mikizzle15 - thx for the reply, obviously I wasnt fully aware of the 'ins and outs' of Dawes behind the scenes, I suppose I was commenting generally on her emotional outpouring at the 93,94 world and in Atlanta.......nice to see a reply based on information, not just someone making derogatory comments because someone has a different opinion to them !! thanks
@Mikizzle15 - I think i've seen some of the programmes you are referring too - defo the 'Anything to win' one anyway ! thx and yes, come to think about it, I now remember Dawes saying about the troubles with her mother driving her to the gym @ stupid o'clock hours !
She stopped dead after the punch front on her double pass. That jammed landing, and re-creating the momentum like she had to must have just killed her sore ankle.
She's crying because this meant she was the first African American woman to qualify for the Olympics through trials. Betty Okino was also on this team, but she was injured and was able to use some kind of previous scoring towards qualification. But her qualification was after Dominique went through trials. And at the time, Dominique wasn't sure she'd qualify because I think she had tendinitis in both of her ankles and was wearing casts up until about a week before trials.
@@MickeyDs14 It's amazing how so beat up the American gymnasts were before the Olympics for so many of them. Even Shannon Miller had a serious injury prior to and even in Barcelona and she won five medals there. I think 2012 was probably the healthiest team since 1996 and even in 2012 they had to deal with Maroney's injury. 2016 seemed relatively healthy. I'd like to think Marta and USAG learned something after how beat up and burnt out the teams were in 2000/2004/2008 but I doubt it.
Tho she was very young here she never really was able to control the 'water works' was she - come to think about it most of the american girls at the time were like that - why? was it the coaching system which molly cuddled the girls when they did well BUT had no back up when they didnt????
Literally one of my favorite athletes ever!!

Bless her little heart
I could watch this a million times and still cry as if it happened yesterday. Love her. Simply the best!
I haven't seen this routine forever but I remember loving it so much when I first saw it and still love it now!
She was the best ever!!

no gymnast in the world still has the power she had back then...
it was about hilary grivich because the judges didnt want more people from bela karolyi students to make it to olympics

Abt 1 of his gymnasts score
does anyone know the name of her music here?
What's the announcer saying? "Bela Karolyi filed another protest" about what?
Most likely Grivich scoring a 9.787 on her floor routine.
She got a thats why she was crying

@@SDoesNotKnow it’s because they trained harder and were better before.
