@largec @divineaglaia Just becase she isn't the originator of the back to back tumbling, doesn't mean it can't be her trademark tumbling pass. Yes, Oksana Omelianchik was the first to perform the tumbling pass in international competition, alonge with others after her: Daniela Silivas and Aurelia Dobre. However, at the end of the day, those gymnast are forgotten about and the back to back tumbling will always be associated with Dominique "Awesome Dawesome" Dawes! :)
I didnt forget Wendy Hilliard. I made a mistake not typing her name: "The first African-American rhythmic gymnast, competed internationally and international medalist from 78-88".
@largec Just because she didnt originate the pass, doesnt mean that it cant be her trademark. It's her trademark, because she's know to do it. And no matter if Oksana omelianchik was the first know to perform the back to back tumbling pass in international competition, along with other, at the end of the day, Oksana omelianchik and the others are forgotten about. Dominique Dawes will forever be known for the back to back tumbling pass! :)
@largec Dominique Dawes is known for her exhausting tumbling! The originality, energy and incredible tumbling deserves a 20! I don't think you understand just how difficult Dominiques back to back floor tumbling was, on bio-mechanical and physical level. She clearly defies the laws of physics and gravity. The difficulty displayed, 1991-1995 on floor, is staggerin. The timming, precision and spatial awarness required are unreal and beyond the scope of Oksana Omelianchik and Daniela Silivas.
Even before Betty suffered injuries, her level of difficulty wasn't anywhere near the level of Dominique Dawes. The only advantage Betty had over Dawes were her long, graceful lines. She liked the power, athleticism and personal style, Dawes posessed. Like the Karolyi camp, performed mediocre, watered down routines yet performed them flawless. Those gymnasts were successful because of the Karolyi name, who gave us Nadia and Mary Lou. Betty Okino is a true African-Americn. She was born in Uganda.
Yea I agree she's been retired for a while now, and there is still no other african american female gymnast who has yet to follow into her footsteps, but there was one african american female gymnast who I believed had a chance to accomplish about the same or maybe even more then dominque had she not sustained too many injuries, and that african american female gymnast was betty okino.
@largec But neither Dominique or Betty was the first african american gymnast to be a national champion. Youre forgetting about Diane Durham, the first African American female, AA Nat'l champion in 1983. There was also Joyce Wilborn, individual event Nat'l champion, 1986 as well as goodwill games medalist. The first African-American rhythmic gymnast, competed internationally and international medalist from 78-88. Also look research Ron Galimore, Charles Lakes, Jair Lynch and Chainy Humphrey
@largec You think Daniela Silivas took it to another level but she didn't, not by a long shot! Let's compare Daniela Silivas and Dominique Dawes tumbling passes! Daniela Silivas: round off, back handspring, double twist, punch front, round of 2 back handsprings, double twist and sometimes a punch front. Dominique Dawes: round off, whip, whip, back handspring, double twist, punch front, round off, 3 back handsprings, double tuck or 2 1/2 twist, punch front (alternate)! Enough said!
"but it can be pretty misleading to someone who knows nothing about the sport into thinking that she is the originator." Actually, no... that's just your poor assumption. The announcers never said anything about her originating any of it, and one need not originate a pass to display it as their trademark-- Kim Zmeskal's triple whipbacks are another great example.
No thats not my poor asumption I knew from the start that she was not the originator Kristie phillips was the first american athlete to do it and when dominique was asked the question if she invented any skills throughout her career she stated yes the up and back tumbling pass without giving any clarification of some of the previous gymnasts who performed the same routine so yes it's misleading.
actually im refering to dawes floor from 94 when she did ro 2 whips backhandspring double twist punch front step out to 3 backhandsprings to a 2 and half twist to punch front which is not the same a silivas thanks
and im not saying she invented any new tumbling but she is the only athlete ive ever seen do that particular pass in that way if u know of one please sent it to me thanks
@largec First of all, Kristie Phillips wasn't the first american gymnast do perform the back to back tumbling. Why? At the 88' trials she did a round off, back handspring, double twish, punch front, "hop", then round of, the same as Aurelia Dobre at the 87' worlds and 88' olympics! Her punch front, round off going into the second past wasn't performed, simultaneously like Dominique Dawes back to back tumbling!
...maturity is needed to admit you're wrong, learn from it, and grow from it. You, on the other hand, react to a correction with profanity, insults, and pugnacious behavior. You've got a long way to go.
Whatever I was simply letting the people know not to be fooled by the commentator saying that the routine was her trademark because it can be misleading to some thats all i said and then you want to come along and start using all these big fancy words like your some kind Ph.d wiz kid.
"insane vocabulary"? ...um, I hate to break this to you; but I haven't used any vernacular that a decently educated person wouldn't use in an everyday conversation. :-/
You know I couldn't help but to realize while dominique was doing the up and back tumbling pass the commentator stated that the back to back tumbling pass was her trademark when an actual reality it wasn't because she was not the first gymnast to invent the up back tumbling pass.
@largec One last thing, Dominique never said she was the "inventor" of that pass nor was it her intentions. She was competing in a small gym in Wheaton, Maryland. On the floor, if you stepped out of bounds, you would hit the wall. Her coach, Kelli Hill, suggested, "why don't you try, tumbling the other way". Later, she stated, "she made it seem effortless and we decided to keep it in her routine". This became her trademark! Make sure you get your facts straight!
AGAIN... what about this ~simple~ concept do you have soooo much trouble grasping?? A trademark has NOTHING to do with originality. One does not have to originate ANYTHING to have a claim of trademark. Kim Zmeskal didn't originate the triple whip, yet that was her trademark. Heck, McDonalds didn't originate the Golden Arches... but are you prepared to argue that that's not THEIR trademark??? This is NOT a difficult subject, it really isn't.

I need a cool drink of water after seeing that hot routine! Sweet Dominique!

God she is so gorgeous such a pretty face and sexy body who ever her man is he is very blessed to have such a goddess like dominique.

I'm aware of that, but their is some people who might not be aware of that.
but it can be pretty misleading to someone who knows nothing about the sport into thinking that she is the originator.
Damn she is fine!!!!
...maturity is needed to admit you're wrong, learn from it, and grow from it.
You, on the other hand, react to a correction with profanity, insults, and pugnacious behavior. You've got a long way to go.
Her gymnastics still has what Biles and Douglas lack: personality.
...and that would be THEIR fault for assuming-- as anyone with any experience, knows that assumption is the mother of all screwups.
your right so I simply said don't be fooled thats it so all that insane vocabulary you were using was not necessary.
she soooooooooooo hot
