Maybe you are but yoy are in the minority. Few people are willing to pay e.g. 50 for an in-game cosmetic, but when the company hides the cost behind random chance where the average cost is 50 relatively more people will buy it. This is the reason why companies love loot boxes so much
I'm glad this was shared in the OSRS subreddit too. I'm concerned the questions regarding upping the membership price might lead some of them to go "what? Pass. Not like this effects me" but I'm hoping they realize it really does. OSRS's success is dependent on RS3 succeeding too, it's the same company. I actually voted yes on the "would you pay more for membership if we completely removed mtx?" mainly because I am concerned they wouldn't even consider removing it if they didn't think they could buffer some of that loss by doing this. I get a decent value out of being able to play both games on one subscription, but agree with OSRS players that being able to play both AT THE SAME TIME on one subscription would make that more viable. Split screen OSRS and RS3 I would absolutely do on a daily basis. I play both sides, so I always come out on top!
What really baffles me is why did they end up removing Yak Track? It wasn't perfect and it still had pay to skip elements, but a few changes to it and I wouldn't mind it at all. If they can bring that back and make it way less of a grind, then it would be fine.

Honestly, even the final iteration of hero pass in the end turned out to be quite nice and enjoyable to the point that I personally preferred it over the yak in spite of all the initial controversy.
They probably got scared by the backlash from the hero pass and didn't want to try their luck with Yak Track anymore. It was not very popular amongst players especially since it got grindier with every iteration

Careful what you wish for, if they remove TH then what would they replace it with? Would it be worse? More predatory? If there isnt anything there, do they increase bond prices again? Just something to think about.
This exctly is my fear. They will remove TH, increase membership price using that as the excuse, then introduce Keldagrim Roulette, the new gambling MTX that's just like TH (which is exactly what they did with the predecessor of TH, the Squeal of Fortune)
The reason Jagex is considering removing TH is because the new UK government leadership (as well as the larger EU) is cracking down on gambling in video games. If Jagex decides to go through with this, raising the price of bonds and membership to make up for the loss of revenue from removing gambling, it'll be a one-and-done thing. They're backed into a corner and weighing their options.
Bank boosters are actually a decent value in RS3 in my experience with other MMOs. Final Fantasy XIV for example makes you pay MONTHLY for extra space and you only have 280 slots by default. In a game that has an outrageous amount of materials and how they often interlink with other crafting skills, its feels unreasonable to do crafting without it.
I actually like TH. I enjoy being able to spend a little to get a boost so I don't have to spend as much time grinding. I have no desire to spend 200 hours working on one skill when I really only have time to play on like weekends. If I wanted to do that, I'd be playing osrs.
No skill in RS3 takes 200 hours to max, not even close. Skilling is the point of this game, why pay to skip it? Why do you play the game if you don't want to play the game?
Imagine if this was done 10+ years ago, It would feel so good grinding XP, I hate so much that I have 120 Woodcutting and I barely touched a tree, it was all lamped from daily keys. Game integrity is already ruined, but better late than never

Ive been playing for 20 years this october. This is the first time i went out of my way to take a survey. I then wrote an essay to them about my thoughts and left them my ingame name, actual name, and personal email if they want to discuss the subject further. My general opinion is bonds are the only thing that should be sold ingame. Gold selling will always exist and Jagex might as well be the benefactor of it. Everthing else buyable xp and cosmetics: must go. Treasure keys must go. I should not be able to get 99 necromancy incidentally from dialy keys and leveling other skills. Hope this is evidence they are ready to finally move in the right direction. At most bonus xp but not direct xp.
More so, It shouldn't be possible to level up a skill you haven't even unlocked, It's possible to get 99 necromancy without even doing the quest for the skill.

NO. NO pay to win. NO exceptions. Bonds allows you to buy progress with real money. It also accelerates the early game. NO. Stop falling for goal post shifting tactics.
I like the treasure hunter system for the fun factor, for me it was never about the xp/lamps/stars. Its just fun to see what a batch of keys will actually pull out for luck. The fun stuff is like pulling a x5 purple silverhawk feather or something crazy like a ton of springs for the cleaner. Im still gonna go around and do agility courses eventually but it was just fun to pull those out. People probably shouldnt need to be buying keys for cosmetics though as solomon's store already covers that all. I will say i dont know the common amount people will spend on keys, but usually i will get the 25 or 75 keys once every few months.

I think they never should've been added to the game in the first place, but once it became clear they were going to stay, I just ignored them. They should merge the Yak Coin shop with the Marketplace though.
I knew Protoxx came from the Netherlands (I'm from Belgium), and I had kind of a crush on him even though I don't even really know how he looks like (but I have seen some pics on google, just not sure if real). But yeah, it was some "e-celeb" kind of crush, but I would sometimes have these "celebrity" fantasy moments with my self with meeting Protoxx and falling in love, hahaha. But now I know he has someone that loves him as much as I think I would love him, and that's a great thing to hear! Happy for you both!

It seems there's a number of people who agree with you, but another group (as big as the first one) who pin the problem unto you, and would rather see Increased Membership Prices.
@@Kranon Why pay for increased membership? I remember it was about $9 in the States years ago. It's up to about $12 already. Hell, if everything keeps increasing then why are our checks/money not increasing to the rise of already increasing prices.
Each of my three accounts yielded jagex $575 aud worth of bonds for the bankspace + first year sub, alongside $690 aud a year of upkeep between them, if I buy into a GIM account and immediately upgrade the bank space that's another $575 along with 3 renewals of premier this autumn. I don't buy TH on any of them, people who say jagex needs to increase the sub costs to offset the loss of TH are out of their minds. If you buy the new WoW expansion next month + a 1 year sub to go with it that's only $270 aud, the bank space is free.

You and I pretty much answered the questions the same. I've played for 23 years. I don't really care about xp anymore. I would like to see more cosmetics, but not through treasure hunter. I haven't acutally spent money on this game in about 15 years. I for one liked the surveys for keys. In the last 2 years I have earned over 5k keys and 3k runecoins from those surveys just on my main. I know I'm in the minority when it comes to this, but its all about how you answer the surveys. The problem with removing MTX in 2024 is that the damage has already been done, there are thousands of accounts that have artifically boosted themselves, which has only snowballed into a bigger problem over time. 10 years later and with it only just being addressed, that's far too late for the removal to have any impact at this point. Players ranging from new to mid game will never catch up if it's removed, and they should be allowed to benefit from this in the same way the community has for the last 10 years. It's not like we can go back in time and remove all of the bought xp and boosted accounts, so removing MTX would make no sense. Even if we dislike it as a community, and even if you don't engage with TH yourself, we need to keep it around for those still under 2500 total. Game integrity is already in the mud, would be a shame if the ultra late game 5.8b pvmers who don't even benefit from TH anymore took it away from people who still rely it whilst having directly benefitted from it for so long themselves.
My biggest issue (not only) with MTX in Runescape, is how there is way too much of it. All the development time wasted on shitty treasure hunter promotions and stuff, just sucks. The game desperately needs more resources to keep the game fun and relevant, and getting rid of TH would free up time/resources for them to work on actual content that has value- and brings fun to players. And who knows, when Treasure hunter is gone, instead of being treated as one of their main ways to make (more) money - they can work on goals to make more money, by being creative and inspired to bring us more actual fun content, instead of treasure hunter stuff/promo's. I believe this to be essential for the long-term health of the game, and I feel like they'll make more money (long-term) by making the game better and more fun.
I really wouldn't mind if we could go for an option to get membership on jagex account level. Paying abit more but get all your accounts member. Even having upgradeable things like rune metrics, more presets in the bank and ability bars. Real QOL stuff. Heck I would pay alot more for all those options included vs Premier monthly costs calculated
At this point it is completely unrealistic for them to be able to remove treasure hunter without increasing membership cost or off setting it somewhere else.
They have the Solomon Store ffs! They can add so much value there, like custom interface themes (colors, icons, cursors), new Combat Animations, PVM/Skilling Bundles, Legendary Pets, Cosmetics... If they made Runecoins their primary Premium Currency, and gave them just enough value to substitute TH, I'm sure the game would still thrive. Because those purchases would offer something for everyone, and having a set price tag over gambling for a reward, is what a majority of people would like to see.
To be honest I wouldn't mind them throwing bonds in for runecoins, but have them be a bit more expensive then normally direct buying them. The reason is because of any partnerships they do that give free coins out (prime partnership and the like) could still net more bonds into the game, and hopefully drive some pricing down marginally for gp
I think a major problem in the community is a ton of people only care for bossing content and dont get hyped around new quests and lore. Jagex used to release a quest either once a month or once every other month and now its down to like 3 quests a year. I'd love more of the short and sweet quests to fill in some of the gaps of space instead of TH promos.
I quit my main to play ironman years ago because I hated that i couldn't disable the squeel of fortune as a recurring pop-up lol. If they added an option to stop the TH pop-up from appearing every time I log in or hop worlds then I'd play my old main again.
The questions in the survey feel weirdly worded. That said, i wish they didn't exclude the 3rd category of treasure hunter items: utility rewards. Not the protean items, not the skilling or combat dummies. The things like silver hawk feathers, magic note paper, springs. Those are now a core part of rs3, regardless of how they started their existence. That said, for the purposes of this comment, i rarely buy $20-30 of keys for obtaining cosmetics from th. Those wings in the latest promo are really nice. The diamond ruby emerald outfit promos also got me - but it's nice to have the cosmetic unlock guaranteed with the reward of the diamond tier chest. I miss the Solomon store being the best method of getting outfits. Those that could be recolored are great.
I generally voted positive on MTX. I know this will make all of you seethe but it pays for the updates and the damage has already been done so no point in reversing it. When the survey thing was at its peak like 3 yrs ago. I got a new bank account to use as a dummy account for this. I put in 100 in it and then signed up for all the surveys and had hundreds and even a 1k keys from the surveys. After I got keys I closed the bank account and that was that.
i feel like its important to also look at the WORDING on the questions as well because some of the answers seem to lean towards whatever jagex seems to want them to. As an example: your answer to 6:57. "... but do not significantly detract my enjoyment from the game." to me this sounds like "I dont like it but it doesnt make the game worse" which also sounds like jagex essentially saying "can we ignore this persons dislike of X or Y?" I said that it significant detracts my enjoyment BECAUSE of that, I dont want them to dismiss us or not follow through with all of this questioning. MTX CAN be nice, but as it stands jagex does way too much of it and charges an arm and a leg for it.
I really think that Jagex is asking more because TH has something in the way it is built that is getting them close to being slapped by regulators (especially in the EU). They are trying to feel the waters to see if they can raise more funds, and increase popularity enough, to remove them before they are either blocked in regions for having TH or are loosing money via fines.
Do you think they'd consider some more Fresh start worlds, with no TH/MTX. (Maybe permanent) To test the waters on getting new players into the game, either returning or new.
There is some merit to this. The issue many people have is that RS3 is already tainted by MTX, even if they remove it all there are thousands of players that bought their way to max total/120s/max xp. I think adding permanent fresh worlds (after MTX was removed) would attract players that don't mind the game/combat system but want hiscores to have integrity (so mainly former RS3 players)
I just really wish they would put the rewards from TH in solomon store, I dont care what the cost is. Its just really good to know how much money I am going to spend and what I am going to get EXACTLY. TH is random and there are plenty of people willing to pay for stuff that just cant. If they made all the items tokens that are sellable that would be great too.
This survey was a challenge. I view it as an Ironman and soon to be Group Ironman. The reason why I switched to the game mode is the sense of accomplishment on the game modes high scores. I know Ive earned my spot amongst my peers and not bought my way.
The main thing I don't like about TH is that I have no way of getting some cosmetics on it as an ironman. If I could just buy them outright I would, but I can't.
9:17 I don't know if they've ever done something like this, but imagine they did a "free week" that allowed F2P players to try P2P. I very rarely had the chance to pay for membership between 2008-2016, but the 2 or 3 months I did have membership, I really enjoyed the content--It encouraged me to eventually come back and pay for a subscription once I had my own money to spend 😂

The single only scenario where I would accept paying more money for membership, is if membership actually becomes Jagex-Account wide. Meaning I'd pay 1 membership for all my characters. Then yes, I'd pay slightly more. Paying per characters, in 2024, with a unified Jagex Account system is Jagex still having a hand in our wallet.

as someone who did every singly yak track. it got really draining mentally and im sad to see it go but i dont miss it.

It seems there's a number of people who agree with you, but another group (as big as the first one) who pin the problem unto you, and would rather see Increased Membership Prices.
@@Kranon Why pay for increased membership? I remember it was about $9 in the States years ago. It's up to about $12 already. Hell, if everything keeps increasing then why are our checks/money not increasing to the rise of already increasing prices.

Each of my three accounts yielded jagex $575 aud worth of bonds for the bankspace + first year sub, alongside $690 aud a year of upkeep between them, if I buy into a GIM account and immediately upgrade the bank space that's another $575 along with 3 renewals of premier this autumn. I don't buy TH on any of them, people who say jagex needs to increase the sub costs to offset the loss of TH are out of their minds.
If you buy the new WoW expansion next month + a 1 year sub to go with it that's only $270 aud, the bank space is free.

Imo the mtx isn't a problem. If Ironmen can do it, everyone can. The boosts are there for those who want to pay for them.

You and I pretty much answered the questions the same. I've played for 23 years. I don't really care about xp anymore. I would like to see more cosmetics, but not through treasure hunter. I haven't acutally spent money on this game in about 15 years. I for one liked the surveys for keys. In the last 2 years I have earned over 5k keys and 3k runecoins from those surveys just on my main. I know I'm in the minority when it comes to this, but its all about how you answer the surveys. The problem with removing MTX in 2024 is that the damage has already been done, there are thousands of accounts that have artifically boosted themselves, which has only snowballed into a bigger problem over time. 10 years later and with it only just being addressed, that's far too late for the removal to have any impact at this point. Players ranging from new to mid game will never catch up if it's removed, and they should be allowed to benefit from this in the same way the community has for the last 10 years.
It's not like we can go back in time and remove all of the bought xp and boosted accounts, so removing MTX would make no sense. Even if we dislike it as a community, and even if you don't engage with TH yourself, we need to keep it around for those still under 2500 total. Game integrity is already in the mud, would be a shame if the ultra late game 5.8b pvmers who don't even benefit from TH anymore took it away from people who still rely it whilst having directly benefitted from it for so long themselves.
The only different thing i would answer it was the final question about competition, i mean a rs3 league would be nice

My biggest issue (not only) with MTX in Runescape, is how there is way too much of it. All the development time wasted on shitty treasure hunter promotions and stuff, just sucks. The game desperately needs more resources to keep the game fun and relevant, and getting rid of TH would free up time/resources for them to work on actual content that has value- and brings fun to players.
And who knows, when Treasure hunter is gone, instead of being treated as one of their main ways to make (more) money - they can work on goals to make more money, by being creative and inspired to bring us more actual fun content, instead of treasure hunter stuff/promo's. I believe this to be essential for the long-term health of the game, and I feel like they'll make more money (long-term) by making the game better and more fun.
I really wouldn't mind if we could go for an option to get membership on jagex account level. Paying abit more but get all your accounts member. Even having upgradeable things like rune metrics, more presets in the bank and ability bars. Real QOL stuff. Heck I would pay alot more for all those options included vs Premier monthly costs calculated

I think the real answer is that they're finally beyond the hell of company sale/acquisition and can finally discuss change.
At this point it is completely unrealistic for them to be able to remove treasure hunter without increasing membership cost or off setting it somewhere else.
They have the Solomon Store ffs!
They can add so much value there, like custom interface themes (colors, icons, cursors), new Combat Animations, PVM/Skilling Bundles, Legendary Pets, Cosmetics...
If they made Runecoins their primary Premium Currency, and gave them just enough value to substitute TH, I'm sure the game would still thrive.
Because those purchases would offer something for everyone, and having a set price tag over gambling for a reward, is what a majority of people would like to see.
go the FF14 route, sell cosmetics, sell emotes, sell emote packs. Sell pets and titles.
To be honest I wouldn't mind them throwing bonds in for runecoins, but have them be a bit more expensive then normally direct buying them. The reason is because of any partnerships they do that give free coins out (prime partnership and the like) could still net more bonds into the game, and hopefully drive some pricing down marginally for gp

I think a major problem in the community is a ton of people only care for bossing content and dont get hyped around new quests and lore. Jagex used to release a quest either once a month or once every other month and now its down to like 3 quests a year. I'd love more of the short and sweet quests to fill in some of the gaps of space instead of TH promos.
I quit my main to play ironman years ago because I hated that i couldn't disable the squeel of fortune as a recurring pop-up lol. If they added an option to stop the TH pop-up from appearing every time I log in or hop worlds then I'd play my old main again.

The questions in the survey feel weirdly worded. That said, i wish they didn't exclude the 3rd category of treasure hunter items: utility rewards. Not the protean items, not the skilling or combat dummies. The things like silver hawk feathers, magic note paper, springs. Those are now a core part of rs3, regardless of how they started their existence.
That said, for the purposes of this comment, i rarely buy $20-30 of keys for obtaining cosmetics from th. Those wings in the latest promo are really nice. The diamond ruby emerald outfit promos also got me - but it's nice to have the cosmetic unlock guaranteed with the reward of the diamond tier chest.
I miss the Solomon store being the best method of getting outfits. Those that could be recolored are great.

I know this will make all of you seethe but it pays for the updates and the damage has already been done so no point in reversing it. People should be allowed to spend their money the way they want as long as it doesnt interfere with other players.

You don't maintain this game or its updates, you aren't a benefactor of players that don't spend on microtransactions. Your money goes to the profits of the shareholders and executives, and there's nothing wrong with that because that's how the system works, but don't kid yourself into thinking your money funds extra updates or that you're doing a service to the community by spending extra

I feel like the damage has already been done. Something like another FSW update or leagues in rs3 OR EVEN DARKSCAPE would bring me back. Removal of mtx sure is nice, but it's been in the game for so long already..
When the survey thing was at its peak like 3 yrs ago. I got a new bank account to use as a dummy account for this. I put in 100 in it and then signed up for all the surveys and had hundreds and even a 1k keys from the surveys. After I got keys I closed the bank account and that was that.
i feel like its important to also look at the WORDING on the questions as well because some of the answers seem to lean towards whatever jagex seems to want them to. As an example: your answer to 6:57. "... but do not significantly detract my enjoyment from the game." to me this sounds like "I dont like it but it doesnt make the game worse" which also sounds like jagex essentially saying "can we ignore this persons dislike of X or Y?" I said that it significant detracts my enjoyment BECAUSE of that, I dont want them to dismiss us or not follow through with all of this questioning. MTX CAN be nice, but as it stands jagex does way too much of it and charges an arm and a leg for it.
I really think that Jagex is asking more because TH has something in the way it is built that is getting them close to being slapped by regulators (especially in the EU). They are trying to feel the waters to see if they can raise more funds, and increase popularity enough, to remove them before they are either blocked in regions for having TH or are loosing money via fines.

There is some merit to this. The issue many people have is that RS3 is already tainted by MTX, even if they remove it all there are thousands of players that bought their way to max total/120s/max xp. I think adding permanent fresh worlds (after MTX was removed) would attract players that don't mind the game/combat system but want hiscores to have integrity (so mainly former RS3 players)

I just really wish they would put the rewards from TH in solomon store, I dont care what the cost is. Its just really good to know how much money I am going to spend and what I am going to get EXACTLY. TH is random and there are plenty of people willing to pay for stuff that just cant. If they made all the items tokens that are sellable that would be great too.

This survey was a challenge. I view it as an Ironman and soon to be Group Ironman. The reason why I switched to the game mode is the sense of accomplishment on the game modes high scores. I know Ive earned my spot amongst my peers and not bought my way.

The main thing I don't like about TH is that I have no way of getting some cosmetics on it as an ironman. If I could just buy them outright I would, but I can't.
9:17 I don't know if they've ever done something like this, but imagine they did a "free week" that allowed F2P players to try P2P. I very rarely had the chance to pay for membership between 2008-2016, but the 2 or 3 months I did have membership, I really enjoyed the content--It encouraged me to eventually come back and pay for a subscription once I had my own money to spend 😂

The single only scenario where I would accept paying more money for membership, is if membership actually becomes Jagex-Account wide. Meaning I'd pay 1 membership for all my characters.
Then yes, I'd pay slightly more. Paying per characters, in 2024, with a unified Jagex Account system is Jagex still having a hand in our wallet.

it has nothing to do with jagex goodwill or them caring about people developing chronic spending addictions through treasure hunter.
Buying bonds that can then turn into pure gold is a micro transaction and a major pay to win feature when you can just buy best in slot gear with cash
I don't mind the MTX too much. Some people just wanna skip through some content to get to the fun part, which I don't mind considering some people don't have much time for games.
