    I’m from San Diego and I recently applied just 2 days ago and got an email from the Department today to schedule my written exam which is set 2 weeks from now! I’m excited and nervous 😅

      The body reacts to excitement and nervousness the same, so let's go with excitement and then the nervousness just means that you care.👍 You've got this. Have you watched this video yet: ua-cam.com/video/FYzjYv9q8Xo/v-deo.html

      Just an FYI really look into SDPD… what I mean is do your research on the turnover rate and how they treat their staff. Hope it works for you.

    The biggest issue in being a cop is putting up with other cops. Some cops think they are God's gift to the world and others are willing to do or sacrifice their all for the Department (that will screw them in a heart beat). Avoid pissing off sergeants and above. Some sergeants grow up to become Lts. or Captains and hold it against you because you pissed them off earlier. Always engage but do not violate your "Use of Force" General Orders. You will have to fight people so you must learn how to fight and this business of fighting fair is bull$hit. Fight to win. Trust very few people who are dressed like you and no one else. Most citizens have no idea what you had to go through to get that cop job and they think nothing of getting you fired. But they will cry like a baby when bad guys is on them and then turn on you if you make a mistake. The community activists and the people like BLM and any other race based group will destroy if they get a chance. Beware of defense attorneys because they burn you in a heart beat. Go to college and learn English. Go to law school and protect yourself. Carry a legal back up gun. Remember that some sergeants will train you and help you while other will use you and betray you just to get ahead. Good luck but remember as one of the best mentor sergeants (and the hardest) I ever had, told me to always put my family first. Check six always.

    I'm a 22-year State Police retired Trooper. I was able to receive retirement credit for my 3 years of active-duty military service and retire at 46 with a full 25-year pension and benefits (free health care included). Most of the guys I worked with were retired by 50 with the same pension and benefits. In that aspect, I would recommend state police vs city or local depending in which state you reside. My career definitely had its up and downs but overall, I wouldn't change a thing. I would tell young officers to get as much training and certifications as you can obtain so that you can build a post-retirement resume. I currently work for the federal government as a Department of the Navy criminal investigator and my State Police experience was the main reason I was hired.

      I’m 24 and currently have my written exam scheduled in 5 days to hopefully make it into the police academy and train as a Sheriff Deputy Cadet! My goal is to hopefully gain enough experience, become a helicopter pilot for the San Diego Sheriffs Office (where I’m from) and eventually join the US Marshal Service as a Aviation Enforcement Officer which specializes in prisoner transport via aircraft. I’m very excited for the future and I can’t wait for things to finally start happening!!

      Do you already have a commercial rotary wing pilot license? If not, I'm fairly certain the San Diego PD won't pay the $50,000 minimum to send you to flight school just for you to go fly for another agency. The majority of pilots in our State Police aviation unit were military pilots before attending our academy and becoming troopers. There were several who paid their own way through civilian flight schools to earn their pilot license. Your stated career path probably won't happen the way you described it.

      @@JulezWinnfield eh should be fine, I actually don’t really understand your concern because that’s kind of how things work. I highly doubt they can stop someone from applying for a different agency using a license they’ve attained from the current one. Like you said many were former military pilots so the military paid for their licensure before they became troopers.

      Most agencies have a caveat that you have to fulfill a multi year service obligation once you receive highly specialized training. Military training isn't the same as a civilian police agency paying to train an officer. I was an Army MP before I became a State Trooper. The Army's biggest recruiting pitch is providing training and skills to use in the civilian world after your discharge.

    This video is awesome thank you for making it! Im in my first year of Working the streets. It’s the best job in the world but I had a close friend commit suicide right after the academy. It had a harsh effect on me. Even early in your career always check up on your buddies and never second guess yourself when you feel something is not right.

      @The10CodeMindset  3 місяці тому +1

      I'm grateful you found the video very useful, but that is devastating to learn about your close friend. It's extremely disturbing that suicide continues to be such a real threat to LEO’s. As you mentioned, check on each other and never second guess. Plus, show up for yourself and you can show up that much better for other people when they call 911.

      GAME TIME! HAHA! Seriously though, read Psalm 91 and also recite the Serenity Prayer. Go into training like a sponge soaking up as much knowledge as possible and remember the learning NEVER stops. ua-cam.com/video/nxjXzIeB0Us/v-deo.htmlsi=VkqdIYMoIhInKpHi
