Working evenings as a Robbery Squad detective in 1974 I responded to back up a patrol officer. As I pulled onto the small, dark parking lot I found myself in a full on gunfight w/three armed robbery suspects. It was over in seconds w/one suspect wounded, one died in the hospital, one turned himself in at a local hospital the next day seeking treatment for a gunshot wound and one uniformed officer was down w/a suspects bullet in his chest (no vests then and he did recover). The point is you never know what’s around the corner so make sure you’re always mentally prepared.
Honestly, I was pretty set with what the department issued. The only extra gear I bought was a pocket opener knife and a small tactical flashlight to put in my pocket…because I did run out of the car one night, chasing a fleeing suspect. He turned a corner and I lost sight of him, then realized I didn’t have my flashlight. Awful feeling. (K9 tracked him down soon after) I carried an extra light after that night until the end of my career. I wish you the best!
Thanks for watching!

That's intense and I'm grateful you shared that, because you're spot on... make sure you're mentally prepared.
Respect brother, just got out of the hospital after 26 days to work on my ptsd
I hate that happened, however I’m glad you don’t give up. It’s not optional.
You’re in my prayers. Keep fighting
@@The10CodeMindset thanks brother

Scott is right. Elite athletes play out the entire game/fight before it takes place. We can all take a page out of that.
One of the best pieces of advice I was given during the career.
Thanks again for the support brother.
Thank you for the useful information Scott! Out of curiosity do you have any advice on how to be a detective??
Me personally I avoided working as a detective. HAHA! However, I know just the person to interview. I'll get in done in a few weeks to a month or so.
@@The10CodeMindset Amazing! Thank you so much Scott!
Anytime. Already contacted the guy and we will make it happen.
Good stuff
Thanks! More videos to come regarding high risk calls/incidents.
I'm new at my agency & was wondering if you had any items that you'd recommend I get for duty.
