      I've also heard Montreal is to Toronto as Boston is to New York City. If you have never been to the real Europe, then Montreal will seem very European to you.
      For those who have been to Europe, it will seem very North American.

      bobbbxxx well it depends having travelled a loot
      i would say montreal is a mix of european architecture especialy french british + new york architecture + typical big north amerikan city architecture
      but its not a soley european city as people claim it
      its a equal mix of europe. new york. and typica north amerika big city
      thats why tons of hollywood-internationa movies that set in new york/europe/north amerikan city are filmed in montreal...cause its cheap to film there. and the viewer wont be able to tell

      @@matthewvanostin5513 Montreal doesn't strike me as being particularly European; at least no part of Europe that I've spent time in. The architecture/city layout is very North American with a good smattering of French/British colonial architecture thrown in, and the lifestyle/food/culture of the people is North American which is unsurprising for people whose ancestors moved here hundreds of years ago. But then, Mexico doesn't strike me as being European either, yet Spanish is spoken and there is Spanish colonial architecture.

Montreal is fun during the summer but I hate potholes it's the capital city of the world 4 that..... inflation is ridiculous ...salaries stay down while jobs are taken away by cheap labor just recently entered hundreds and thousands every month thanks to Trudeau... .. everything is expensive ....clothes is expensive...... food is expensive..... no quality of life..... gas is expensive there's no quality ...... everybody moves from one bus to another and everybody's rushing...... nobody gets to meet each other everybody's driving bikes on streets that are very busy like for instance on de Maisonneuve they have bike paths which is ridiculous they should have it on René Lévesque because the roads are wider stupid mayor...... corrupted Capital province of the world that is taken by corrupted Mafia enters the summer and winter everybody's gone...... Montreal is a total joke full of ethnics speaking different languages that you never understand anyone everybody's living in malls..... there's nothing to see but a mountain to climb boring been there done that.... Gay East End Village is ugly old and miserable everybody's dying of AIDS ...... every where horrible nothing really attractive . personally I am French been raised in Montreal seen it and its glory and for the past 50 years chaos corruption thrives......they took off Expo 67 .....parc Belmont.... a little zoo in chocolate fountain fountain all gone to leave way for corruption Muslims and Mexicans and Asians Foreman ghettos everywhere...... all speaking their own language working under the table for instance Muslims marry 20 wives all over Canada collects from government Capitol corruption and much more than Montreal is visited during the summer bye corrupted Jews from Florida it's good for the rich but not for the poor with a middle-class for what's left of it apartments are super expensive new immigrants will not complain because they just arrived they don't know the difference or any better Montreal it's not what it used to be...... all businesses are taking over by Arabs Jews and mobsters very boring very poor very third world lollll.... we can thank stupid Trudeau young asshole...... Quebec gives 76 billion dollars to the federal government and not one dime back to Montreal that needs help prime minister Trudeau flashes with his pink shirt in the gay Village instead of wearing a construction hat and looking at the city what they are in need of most a real total joke..... Montreal is ugly because now we're having a lot of investors coming from all over buying land because it's expensive in Ontario Vancouver Etc so they build in Montreal thinking that they're going to make a fortune mean while the roads are ugly and will never be fixed .....government camouflages by only repairing one Street downtown to show us that they're taking care of things all a lie Montreal is garbage all lies full of corruption. if you want to have fun I recommend you not to go there people smoke cigarettes also every corner street Beggars every corner street asking for $5 not a quarter a real joke . . There should be nothing English in Quebec, English was forced to these lands. And now when Quebec people are trying to restorate French, English speaking motherfuckers started to talk about infringement of their rights, although they used to beat francophones not long time ago, telling them "speak like white" (i.e. speak English).
      Reminds me of USSR, in 20th century Russians forced Russian language everywhere, intentionally making impossible education in local languages, and now when 14 republics got independence, local Russians refuse to learn our languages telling it is infringement, "we want to live in your countries, but we won't learn your language, don't be nationalists".

    Montreal is an AWESOME city! I know, I live there! The food, the old port, the underground city, the French culture, the universities, the festivals, the museums, the friendliness of people, the parcs, the Mount Royal, I’m telling you...it’s a super nice city, one of the finest in the world! There is only one thing though.... because I’m a Montrealer, I’m talking with experience...Since a few decades now, we had shitty mayors who didn’t take care of this beautiful place. The one we have now is NO BETTER! Potholes, insults of our French culture, not enough garbage disposals and orange cones because of the street repairs every where, are a few of our problems here. And, since our mayor is an avid cyclist, our bicycle paths are better taking care of during winter than the actual streets after a snowfall. The old folks and disabled people are playing with their safety on the hazardous slippery sidewalks in winter because the city councilors bought the wrong machine for deicing the sidewalks of the secondary streets. They were too wide for the sidewalks. It’s the lack of leadership from the mayor and her officials that fails greatly in the improvement and well being on this beautiful place.

    • @dimik3855
      @dimik3855 2 роки тому +1

      You are so right Jo-Ann. A lot of people think that she made the city so good, but it was great before she and her party arrived on the scene. She's not the 1st to make bicycle paths and plant trees. Her gang of pretentious greenies is preoccupied with cosmetics. Montreal is not Copenhagen. It's a bigger winter city. Bicycle paths separated by cement dividers and needlessly making some of the greenest parts of the city greener is not cheap and complicate snow removal operations. It means high taxes. Having outdoor terraces and making whole streets into pedestrian walks is pretty, but it has ruined many businesses and pissed off a lot of merchants by eliminating a lot of parking spaces everywhere. Most of the people who like her are young, idealistic and have little reference. She has turned our beautiful Mt Royal into some kind of cattle corral. Often, her excuse is peoples' safety, as if they're too dumb to know better. I don't think she has a good idea of what a healthy economy is. A lot of people have left to the suburbs. She has to go. We badly need a Valerie Trans-Plante!

Which is insane. We also have incredible nightclubs and bars! The choices are endless. It's not for nothing Montreal is known to be a city ruled by students, it's always a party haha.

    Montreal has a huge advantage over European cities. She was founded in 1642 and for most of her life she has been a city at peace. So many European cities have been pounded to ruin in revolutions and world wars. Montreal is beautiful and intact. If you are from anywhere in North America you must visit Montreal. Simply superior to most of Europe today. Sorry PBS.

    Great channel. Montreal truly is a special place. Many aspects about the city are very appealng, including its multicultural makeup. However one group that I haven't seen mentioned in this series and whom have had quite a presence and impact on the city, are the Greek community. They're one of the oldest ethnic communities, smaller than the Italian but bigger than the Portuguese who are both covered in the channel. A good start to discover the Greek heritage of the city is to watch an old documentary from 1967 called - The 80 Goes to Sparta - otherwise it would be great if this channel included something about the vibrant and historic Greek community of Montreal. Anyway, really interesting videos. Well done folks!
